800° has always been a place to get pretty decent, bespoke pizza, made to your specs. The quality of the ingredients has always been very good, and the restaurants have always been clean and comfortable. This is all true at their Vine St. location in Hollywood, but the owner has left the place woefully understaffed, making the experience frustrating. To begin, they have changed their hours but not updated them online or even on their signage at the store -- so we arrived to a locked door, and waited nearly 20 minutes for the place to open. Upon entering, we discovered that there was exactly ONE employee working, a genial and welcoming guy named Marcos, who had to do EVERYTHING: prep the line, make the pizzas, serve the food, hand out drink cups, lids and straws, hand out condiments, and, eventually, clear the tables. Our party was the only one there; perhaps that's some justification for the sparse staff, but if there had been just a few more parties, it would have been chaos. Ordering is done via an iPad, and again, if there had been multiple customers, the back-up would have been exasperating. As to the pizza: it was decent. My son and his friend are vegan, so they built a pie with vegan cheese, onions and Impossible meat. It looked very good, and they said it tasted just fine. My own pie, with sausage, onions and peppers, was also very tasty, and did come well-done as requested. Marcos knows how to make a pizza. So, should you go? Possibly. Depends how busy it is, and whether Marcos has a back-up if there's a crowd. But unless the owner tweaks the system a bit, it'll always be a crapshoot. read more

We ordered the Alla Vodka (smoked bacon, mozzarella, caramelized onions) and Tartufo (mushrooms, garlic, mozzarella, and arugula) pizzas. They were made to order and wood fired, so that was great. The staff who took our orders was very friendly, too. The reason I would not return to this restaurant is because of how dirty it was. While ordering, I noticed huge flies swarming around an open tray of meatballs. The tables weren't wiped either, but we managed to find the cleanest one out of them all. Don't even get me started on the bathroom - you're better off skipping it altogether because of how smelly and filthy it was. Got pizza from this place pretty recently and honestly wasn't expecting much. Prices were quite high so I was thinking it better be good. Got just a single slice of the margherita pizza. Surprisingly, it was actually delicious. You can see the pizza being made in the oven and the bottom is nicely crisp and charred (although bordering on burnt). It comes out SUPER hot so be careful. The cheese and sauce (nicely sweet) were both very, very good, and I was surprised by how huge a single slice of pizza was. I think I may have just gotten lucky, though. I'm very torn about this experience. We decided to stop by 800 degrees before our show at the pantages. Upon arriving, we were the only people in the restaurant. We ordered one pizza, a large salad and three drinks. Our total was $64.59. When we tried to get drinks, the freestyle machine was only dispensing a few of the many options. The owner was very friendly and called to get it fixed (he ended up being on the phone for a very long time and it still wasn't fixed by the time we left). We got our salad and pizza and they were both good. The biggest issues we had were the environment and the prices. We all felt like the food was extremely expensive for what we received (small portions) which explains why there were no other diners. The environment was awkward, we were the only people there the entire time and there was an off-putting smell. Although we are glad we tried something new, we will not be going back. read more

Let me start off by saying I originally had a craving for pit fire pizza. I was having a terrible day and was not looking forward to a very long commute home. Hollywood is a unique place tho. You have to appreciate it for what it is. This location was close to NETFLIX headquarters. I then began to look for parking. It was pretty overwhelming. I didn't want to park in a structure where it was dark and cost $50 per minute. Then I struck gold. I saw an empty space on the street w a meter. I quickly made a u turn and parked. The best part is the meter was good for one hour and 20 min. I started to make my way to Tender Greens when I spotted this cute cozy looking pizza place in front of my parking space. i made a quick decision and my soul quickly moved my feet into 800 degrees pizza! I had never eaten there but the ambiance was so attractive I had to come in. I was immediately greeted by the manager. I never got his name but he brought sunshine to the end of my bad day. He asked the normal everyday question of how was your day. Me, being an open book replied with, I've had better. He then went into fix it mode!! I ordered the pepperoni pizza and a glass of white wine. He then said he would make my day better by not charging me for the side of ranch dipping sauce. He also Sweetly gave me a complimentary iced tea for on the go. He was very sweet and almost parent like. It was nice thst he cared about making my day better. He brought over my white wine in a chilled glass!!! Very impressive. The wine was soft and subtle. I didn't catch the name of it, but was very nice!!! Then the pizza came!! Fire baked crispy crust that had a colossal crunch and chewy sourdough softness inside!! The pizza was a perfect size for a sole diner. The pizza could have had a little more pepperoni, but was perfect nonetheless. It also had basil leaves which really added a nice touch to the palette. Wow!!! The pepperoni was also crispy around the edges. I'm notorious for cutting away crust on everything. I loathe crust, but this pizza crust was insanely good!! I ate the entire slice. Dipping the crispy chewy blackened crust into the ranch dipping sauce. Amazing!! I sat here by myself doom scrolled and felt like everything was ok. Dropped in to try their pizza before hitting their upstairs lounge. Firstly we noticed their B rating as we were ordering, but decided to still give it a try at our own risk lol. I will say the pizza was good since it's wood-fired but nothing special. Service is ok...but definitely not worth $45 for a small pizza and a seltzer water I'm sorry. The place needs major improvement & in my opinion, if a business is going to charge upscale pricing bc of the area, your health grade should definitely be an A and cleanliness/ service should be immaculate. Where to start? We were really looking forward to coming here before a show at the nearby Hollywood Palladium because the pizza looked amazing and there is a "hidden" retro cocktail bar upstairs! Firstly, it looked totally abandoned. There is junk and empty boxes strewn about and whole areas haphazardly blocked off (like it was the first week of lockdown or something). I'm not kidding that there were booths with literally no tables between them, smaller tables with no chairs, and even one bench with no tables in front of it. It really felt like we came into a closed business. There didn't seem to be anyone actually working there either, except for one guy in the back making the pizzas (and you can't get near enough to ask him any questions because they have that whole side blocked off.) With no one else seemingly working there you just order on a little screen. I wanted to ask questions about the menu, how to get to the hidden bar, if you could bring food up there, etc. but no I guess you're just there on your own... We placed our order and then eventually realized that the lady sitting at a table in the corner having a very loud phone conversation on speaker was actually the person working there! What a surprise! But she couldn't be bothered for questions or helping customers, we only noticed that she went behind the counter to get something then went back to her phone call. We even saw her be rude to a lady just trying to get a to-go box. We tried to ask her for the bathroom code and she seemed quite annoyed that we interrupted her phone call. Our pizza came and talk about another disappointment, $33 for a very flat, just-okay 12" pizza. Yikes. After a while the lady's family came in and sat at her table with her, clearly just there to pass the time while she "worked", taking up very limited useable seats. (Is she the manager? Does that explain why this place is a total dump? Or does the owner know this lady barely works and just hangs out with her family and talks on the phone during her whole shift and ignores or is rude to customers?? I have so many questions!) We finished our very sub-par pizza and found the hidden bar upstairs (which is actually awesome! "Sunset & Vinyl" Great cocktail list but extremely pricey too, like $30-$50 average per cocktail). While waiting a very long time for our drinks because the poor bartender was serving a ton of people all by himself, here comes the lady!!! Totally leaving the downstairs restaurant unattended, she comes behind the bar and start asking this guy how to make an Aperol Spritz! While trying to make several complicated drinks behind the tiny bar the poor guy had to help her and she got all in his way trying to make them (for her family downstairs I assume) while the rest of us customers watched and waited patiently for our turn to even order. I can't even make this up, my wife and I almost died laughing except we felt so bad for the bartender and were literally astonished and this entire experience. Truly, very bizarre. I just hope she's not the manager and that the management actually sees this and does something to make this place better. It has a lot of potential, especially with that rad bar upstairs and the location. read more

This is the only pizza place in the area that I've tried over the last decade or so that actually has really delicious crust. I used to come to the Westwood location in college and it was my favorite pizza in LA. This seems to be the only location left and the LAX one and boy was it GARBAGE. The prosciutto pieces were tiny.
