Got my paddle board and quick lesson on picking the right size board (32" for me), foot placement, how to carry the board, best time and places to go. 24hr rental is $48 I believe - went out 3Xs for about 40mins each time. If you come to Hawaii on vacation you just might wind up surfing the best waves of your life on a rented surfboard instead of your magic board from home. If that turns out to be the case on Maui then make sure you get your board rental and any other surf supplies you left at home from 808 Boards! Yes, these guys have great equipment instead of the old beaters that most shops will rent you. And, their prices are fair. But most importantly they are stoked surfers themselves and embody the Aloha spirit. They understand that the waves can get really big here and there is always the chance that through no fault of you own, their boards may still take a bit of a beating. But instead of seeing that as a "money making opportunity" these guys are completely understanding and reasonable about the damage costs. To pay that kindness back, just treat their boards with the same care you treat you own. This is actually the best deal on the island. And it's my fourth time renting from them! $45 per every 24 hours for a quality board, and they deliver right to wherever you are staying! We actually checked out a place in Lahaina since we were shopping and thought we could paddle-surf a bit, and they charged $40 for two hours on a monstrosity that was beat up. These guys know their stuff. Rented SUP paddleboard for the day. I was a first timer and Jeff gave me great instructions on balance, positioning and using the paddles properly. Who knew there is a front and back side to the paddle! Jeff gave me tips where to enter the bay, how to fall and get back up easily. Rates were very reasonable and they deliver. Booked 4 surf lessons with them for our kids with the goal of getting private lessons with an instructor. The lessons were booked way in advance (more than a month). They outsourced to someone else, who outsourced to someone else. The result was an inconsistent experience: different instructors, different teaching style, different times. We had a great time doing a family surf lesson. We had two surf coaches, DJ and his co-worker. They were on-time at the meeting spot and called us to make sure we were on our way. Once we got to the beach they had the boards ready, swim shoes and rash guards for us to wear. They were both so nice, fun and easy to talk to. We were riding beginner waves so they spent a lot of time coaching us on the best waves to catch and giving us an extra push so we caught every wave. It was a great experience. read more

I was here on vacation looking for shops to get surfboards from when everyone was sold out and luckily they had it.The staff here was great and helped us get a board, also recommended us for everything we should have to get the best experience. Business recently moved from Napili to strip mall with Times supermarket. I reserved two stand up paddle boards, and the guy who helped us [Dallas] lacked basic safety training and in dire need of Aloha spirit. As he was securing the boards on our vehicle, he launched the heavy metal buckle of the ratchet strap over the car and missed my eye by a few inches, and I called out he almost hit me, and then he takes the other strap and tells my son to get in the car, but he does it again, with the metal buckle over the car top, and the buckle swings inside the open car door and misses my son's head by an inch as well. Was completely unapologetic like it wasn't a big deal and that was the most upsetting part of the experience, even after I told him I was almost hit the first time. All the other times we rented boards, they always throw the fabric end of the tether over the car so people don't get injured. 808 Board management: You can do much better than this! read more

We rented SUP boards for 24 hrs. We ended up picking them up and fitting them in our jeep. It was so easy and such a great experience to be able to explore the ocean while watching whales breach in the near distance. Solid, well maintained board selection. I was able to describe my surf experience over the phone and have them hold a board for me to pick up. They do deliver but I like to see and feel a board before I ride it. For $30/day I got a premium performance longboard, leash, wax, and softracks for my car. Equipment wise, this is the place to go. I took away one star because they missed the mark on friendliness. I tried to engage in conversation with the guys who helped me about local breaks and just got grumbles from the first guy about how this side of the island had the best surfing. Great, care to elaborate?? The second guy, was slightly more friendly and said I could change the board out when I liked to accommodate different breaks and suggested I try s turns which I was already planning or Honolua bay. In general surf shops are a let down when it comes to serving women surfers so I never get my hopes up. Just telling it like it is. At least they didn't ask me if the board was for my husband. Skip the expensive board rental places on the beach and call these guys. We have been using them for years. Just give them a call and they will bring the boards to you. Last visit to Maui I rented 2 soft top surfboards and a SUP. I wasn't super happy with the first board they brought me so I gave them a call and within an hour they were back and traded out the board. Upgrading from 2 stars to 3 because the owner proactively reached out, though I'm still dissatisfied. Original Review: Asked for help selecting a wet suit shirt to keep me warm snorkeling/surfing. Matt at the counter said he didn't know much about the $90 one I selected. I went to the counter with large and asked if this was good he said sure. I came back an hour later and asked to change it for a medium because it was too big. He said no because it got wet. That seems reasonable if they had given me any guidance in buying it but to not swap it after I clearly asked him about sizing was a big disappointment. Buy with caution. That said they had a good selection, reasonable prices, and gave me a slight discount because I'm a local. read more

Great place to rent paddle boards. We rented paddle boards from 808 in Napili twice while we were in Maui. They were great! The guy who rented us the boards was way cool and laughed at all of our dumb jokes (which we appreciated). ;) My husband and I had never used SUP before and he gave us great instruction. I liked that they had an option to only rent the boards for a few hours (vs. a full day), especially the first day since we were tired from doing it for the first time. We paid $35 per person for about 2.5 hrs, I think. All of the hotels and other rental places on the island only have one option - $45 for the day. So it was nice to have that cheaper option. I also loved that we could walk the boards from their rental shop right down to the beach, and walk them right back to return them. It made it super easy vs. trying to fit those huge SUPs in our rental car. read more
