OMG..hubby and I both agreed this is our favorite place so far. It was recommended by our car rental rep so we had to try. The lady taking our order was so sweet and patient with us. It was our first time and we couldn't decide what to order. There were so many choices to choose from so we decided to try 4 combo plates. I woke up this morning craving for another plate so I'm glad we got extra. Hubby and I are both carnivores.. We usually do not eat fish but boy, did we make the mistake of not ordering more fish items. 1st plate: Ribeye/Garlic Ahi Katsu. Ribeye was soft and tender, flavor was on point. Garlic Ahi Katsu was cooked to perfection but i think it needed more sauce. 2nd plate: Wasabi Ahi Katsu/Fried Poke. Wasabi Ahi was, hands down, our favorite!!! Sauce was amazing, it really complimented the ahi and the fish was cooked to perfection! I'm going to try to convince my husband to stop by before our flight to pick up another plate. Fried poke was pretty good too! Flavor was yummy but I'd have to say, wasabi ahi flavor overpowered all the other dishes. 3rd plate: Ribeye/Garlic Chicken. Got this plate for our lunch the next day but of course we tried the chicken so we know what it tasted like fresh. Unfortunately, if i had to pick, this would be my least favorite. Chicken was a little dry. I think more sauce would have helped. 4th plate: Garlic Shrimp/Ribeye. Hubby and I don't eat shrimp so I was surprised he wanted to try it. Found this food truck on Yelp, and the location kept taking me to a strange place sort of near the Lowe's parking lot. I couldn't find the truck, so gave up. As I was leaving through the other side of the Lowe's parking lot, there it was! The food truck is outstanding and worth seeking out especially if you are in central Maui. I had finished hiking around Haleakala National Park and was heading back to the western side of the island and was starving. The staff here were so friendly and recommended I go with the combo plate of wasabi ahi katsu and garlic shrimp. Both were delicious with big portions! With so many food trucks all around Maui now, I either need more time or a bigger stomach to hit all the ones I want to try or return to. Having missed out the last time I was in Maui, I made it a point to swing by 808 Plates during my most recent visit. It was nice having it separate from all the other food trucks by Costco and is located by Lowe's. Because of this, there seemed to be more locals picking up lunch here than some of the other trucks, bringing me back to the days of lunchwagons. What I really wanted to try here was the ahi katsu which was a bit drier than I would've liked. Three pieces over some greens and with two scoops of rice, the carbs would make sure you don't leave hungry. However, by the time you finish your protein, you will most likely have half to a full scoop of rice left. The house made aioli drizzled on the fish was delicious and would recommend they also drizzle some over the salad underneath that was plain. read more

I officially understand the hype around this place the food here is GOOD. Food: loved the variety of options they had on their menu. I went with the menu favorites which was the ribeye & wasabi ahi katsu & my husband ordered the garlic chicken. The ribeye was pretty good maybe needed just a tad bit more seasoning.. however the wasabi ahi katsu was a game changer I'd definitely order this one again. The garlic chicken was also pretty fire & cooked to perfection. Love that everything is cooked fresh here & that it doesn't taste greasy or heavy. This food truck is definitely worth checking out. I had wanted to try all different food in Maui and this place was recommended. We got a combo plate of garlic shrimp and garlic ahi Katsu to go. First, the portion is huge, and the service was fast. The food was still pretty warm when we got back to the hotel about 10 minutes away. Overall the flavor is pretty rich being fried and with rice. I did feel the ahi got very tough and hard after it was coated and fried as a katsu. I also felt the sauces compete with the flavor and would have been better with a lighter sauce such as citrus based to cut the oil. My hubby got the ribeye and garlic chicken combo. Ribeye was tender but quite a bit of grisly fat. Not much seasoning. The garlic chicken was deep fried and slightly breaeded . Excellent flavor but it was fairly dry and chewy. I had the garlic shrimp. There was a slight breading on the shrimp that made it taste gritty. A friend brought over two dishes for a recent get-together which is how I finally got to try 808 Plates Maui. THE TRUCK: They're located at the west end of the Lowes Kahului parking lot. MENU: Fish dishes done katsu-style, shrimp, pokē bowls, poultry, meat. FOOD: Wasabi Glazed Ahi Katsu - $14.00 Straight up wasabi and me don't agree but said friend insisted it's good and I'd probably like it. She was right! While I could still taste wasabi, it wasn't hot or overpowering as it's combined with other sauces, resulting in a creamy flavor with light notes of wasabi, poured over the three pieces of breaded ahi. The breading was soggy by the time we ate it due to being covered in sauce and sweating in the takeout container, which was the only downfall of the dish. A scoop of rice and field greens salad with a creamy dressing accompanied. Ribeye Steak - $14.00 The rough-chopped meat was a bit on the thin side, cooked medium, with a mundane flavor-profile. Portion size was good for the price, with the same accompanying sides of rice and salad. IMO, the best way to season meat is simply with rock salt, then build-up from there with other seasonings. Rock salt brings out the natural flavor in beef resulting in an amazing, pure taste. OVERALL: Standard fare at fair pricing. read more

It is a food truck, so it is more a to go place where you can take your plate and eat it somewhere else. Everyone absolutely loved what they got- you can't go wrong! The teriyaki protein is made with beef not chicken. If you like chicken more the Korean chicken is slightly breaded but also has a sweet taste to it so it is a great option for chicken lovers. The only thing I would suggest that would make it even better is if they put a couple fold up chairs/tables outside for people to sit and eat there as some food trucks do. I really wanted to add the spicy poke to give it a try but they were sold out by the time I landed on island, got my rental car and made it to the food truck at about 8:15p (sad face). The ribeye was frickin bomb.com!! The garlic chicken was packed with flavor. There were even chunks of roasted garlic with it...drool!! I will say that the chicken was a little over cooked, dry and little hard which is why I dropped a star. No mac salad? Ok, but the salad it came with instead was okay. I'm also not a fan of playing treasure hunt in an Arctic ice cold cooler packed with ice to find my Sprite which of course was at the bottom and took three attempts and peering into the freezing ice slushy to find and pull out. Finally stopped here after seeing it from across the way every time I'm at Target. They are located in the Lowe's parking lot, closest to Target. A good selection of items, but not too much where your stuck trying to decide for hours. There is also a combo option if you really can't decide. Went with 2 plates, the garlic chicken & breaded teriyaki. It seemed like a lot of people call their orders in, quite a few just came & picked theirs up as we were waiting for ours. Noted for next time. Opened to plate to find generous portions along with rice & salad. The garlic chicken was soaked perfectly, so crispy, & a good amount of garlic taste. Which that is usually my problem with anything garlic, it's never enough. You could actually see garlic chunks in this one. The breaded teri was a bit dry, but I liked that the coating was still crisp. Flavor was a bit mild, but then again the chicken flavor was so prominent that maybe it through my taste buds off a bit. Will definitely have to come back to try more. Don't just admire them from afar in the Target parking lot, go check them out! read more

I love that you can create a combo of two items. Ordered the Garlic Chicken and Ahi Katsu combo with Shoyu Poke. Really liked the Garlic Chicken and Shoyu Poke. The poke tasted fresh and not too much shoyu. The chicken was perfectly crispy and had good flavor. The Ahi Katsu was good but raw tuna can't be beat.  Plates come with green salad. No macaroni salad option.  808 Plates accept debit and credit cards with a 50 cent charge per plate. We were really happy with our meal and a combo plate was enough for the two of us for lunch. My wife and I just came from Road to Hana and we wanted to get something to eat before heading back to Lahaina. We were both tired and worn out so we wanted to find something substantial to get us through the next hour of driving. Looked on Yelp and found this place. It's in the Lowe's parking lot. We found it easy and lots of parking. My wife got the ribeye and garlic shrimp. I got the ribeye and wasabi glazed ahi katsu. Service took about 10 minutes. I took one bite of the ahi. Bruh!!!! It was crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, and the wasabi glaze sauce was amazing! It wasn't super spicy. It was the perfect amount of punch. It was so good that my wife stole a couple bites from me. My wife also really loved the garlic shrimp and how the sauce seeped into the rice with all the garlic bits. The shrimp was firm and had a slight buttery crust on the outside. The ribeye was pretty good, about the quality you can expect from a good food truck. The salad was fresh and the dressing was tasty. It was crispy on the outside and moist and flakey on the inside. The garlic was perfect and not over powering the fish. So good! The plate would of been perfect if it came with some Mac salad instead of leafy greens. They didn't have poke, which I was really bummed about.
