What more can I say then that the fish I have gotten here has always been fresh and fairly priced…read more Any opportunity I have I stop in and get a few dozen of their little neck clams (an east coast variety) to make either a linguini in white clam sauce or New England clam chowder. The clams I have gotten have always been extremely fresh and they have ice to keep the clams cold until one gets home. I have also gotten frozen shrimp and bay scallops, both of which have been excellent. The bay scallops, like the clams, are almost impossible to find in the PNW - but they have them and they are fresh. Also, a shout out to the employees - they are always very friendly. Note that they also run specials (I believe all the time) on about 3 items at a time. Last time I was in, they had four varieties of oysters at $1 per.

It's a seafood store and the ambience is that of a seafood market. Fresh and frozen treats from around the world. Prices and super affordable. This will be my annual stop.

There's so many photos of this place, you get the idea…read more A great addition to the neighborhood, and a destination if not close. Their wine bar is fantastic, and good-priced, and it was fun to watch the last of the World Cup here today. If you're looking for something special or hard to find, this is the place, much like the old Pastaworks was on Hawthorne. They really shine on their produce, pasta and fresh meats here, and there's always something new, but I love that you can count on the bakery for your focaccia and other fresh breads. Cheese case is like Rue Cler, Paris--so much selection and they will tell you about each one of them. Don't be afraid to just ask a lot of questions. I wish that they did some little items in the bakery, one of my fondest memories from childhood was going to Pastaworks with my dad and getting a breadstick, probably eating it before we even paid (we did), as we strolled around, and where's the peanut sauce for pasta, another favorite of the old days, yup, I'm old. Can't say enough good things about this place, it can add up though as others have mentioned, but, if you keep to a list or just slow the roll on the impulse buy, it's actually reasonable and you know you're getting what you're paying for. I've never regretted a purchase here or thought it unfair. I mean, it says Fine Foods right there in the name...:) Thank you for the amazing ingredients for dinner tonight, cheers!

I've been a longtime, low-key regular at Hồng Phát for all things Vietnamese and random grocery needs, but this time I found my reason to shout about it. After what felt like a lifetime of hovering and debating, I finally went for it and picked up their Pâté Gan (liver spread) from the refrigerated deli case near the front. Let me tell you: SPREADABLE GOLD! 8oz hand-filled container for $5.95 and worth every single bite. Listed ingredients? Pork Liver, Pork Fat, Pork. (We all know there's more in there, but I'm not here to investigate, just to celebrate.) As a pâté-obsessed Bánh Mì DIY, this blew me away. -Texture: Silky and spreadable perfection. -Taste: Deep, rich, and satisfying without being overly gamey. - Smell: Divine, for those who love a good pâté, you know what I mean. This is officially my new go-to pâté source, alongside my other favorites scattered along 82nd Ave. TIP: Since it's hand-packed from a larger batch, look for condensation inside the container. It can give you a clue about how fresh it is and how long you've got before the quality dips. Don't just rely on the "Sell By" label. Honestly, I still can't believe I slept on this for so long with my skepticism. If you're even mildly into pâté or making your own Bánh Mì at home: run, don't walk.

They bring in tropical fruits from Hawaii and overall have a huge produce section with herbs and vegetables. I haven't purchased any of their meat or fish. I was like a kid in a candy store. I found a good handful of items from Hawaii that I was either wanting or needed while in town. Extremely Unprofessional Behavior at the Poke Counter…read more Today my friend and I drove to Uwajimaya specifically to buy fresh poke, which we usually enjoy here. When we arrived at the poke bowl service counter, we were standing in front of the menu screens trying to decide what to order. We were not in line yet, because we were still looking at the options and deciding. We had only been standing there for less than three minutes. At the time, there was an Asian male employee helping another customer. After that customer finished ordering, another male employee (tall with long hair) gestured toward me and asked if I was ready to order. I said, "Can I get a mini bowl please?" Instead of confirming my order, he immediately asked whether my friend wanted the same thing. My friend was still deciding and had not said she was ordering yet, so I politely replied that she wasn't sure yet, but I was ready to order mine. The employee then shook his head and slammed the rice container, which completely surprised me. The gesture and attitude felt very disrespectful and unnecessarily aggressive toward a customer. For context, I work in the food service industry myself, so I understand that things can get busy. However, at that moment there were no other customers waiting behind us, so the pressure and frustration displayed by this employee felt very inappropriate. Because of how uncomfortable the interaction felt, I told him that it was okay and that I would not order anymore. My friend also said it was okay and that we didn't want anything anymore. Instead of simply letting us go, the employee shouted loudly across the counter, saying "Come back, come back! What do you want? Come back!" while waving his hand at us as if we had to beg for him to serve us. We had done nothing wrong--we were simply looking at the menu and politely asked for a mini bowl. The experience left us feeling confused, pressured, and honestly quite uncomfortable. We later reported the incident to the customer service counter. The female employee there (wearing glasses) listened and said she would forward the report to management. I have visited Uwajimaya many times and usually enjoy shopping here, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. I hope management addresses this situation and reminds staff that basic courtesy and patience are essential in customer service. After the incident, we decided not to order poke and only purchased a bottled tea before leaving. We ended up going to another Japanese restaurant nearby for food instead. I'm sharing this experience not to attack the business, but to provide honest feedback. Uwajimaya has always been a place we enjoy visiting, and we would be happy to come back in the future--once we feel confident that customers will not be treated this way again by this particular employee.
