When we finally got seated and asked to order...my mom ordered the house special fried rice and I ordered a special fish called salt and pepper seafood. And I asked for white rice... The waiter goes no white rice for you share the fried rice with your mom........... Who the fuck. Is he to tell me no?! And right after that he took our menus away... We weren't done ordering! He assumed that since there was two of us we only wanted two dishes... But my mom and I wanted to do family style and order a few main dishes and share... He didn't even give me a chance to speak he just took our menus and ran away.... We waited 20 minutes for those dishes and the whole time still trying to get a waiter to order the rest of the dishes we wanted. No one payed attention to us... We didn't get to order the other dishes till our food came..we ordered half a duck, and a shrimp chow fun. The food wasn't even that great. It was 9:17pm when my fiancee placed the order. 10, minutes passed and still no food, so I gave another 5 minute wait. Meanwhile, customer who came after us, went in and out of the place like nothing. Keep in mind, I have an infant with me... So, I switched spot with my fiancee and I went inside to ask the waiter about my order. One of them told me its on the way. Another waiter came up to me and ASKED me what I ordered. When someone does that, he either forgot about your order and was never placed or he really want to know. I got so fed up, we left the placed. The time we left was 9:47pm. The seating is all large, circular family tables and though the space isn't very big, that's what adds to the family atmosphere of these Cantonese-style family restaurants! It took a while for someone to take our order and give us attention, but once we ordered, the food came very quickly. I had the thousand-year-old-egg and pork congee which hit the spot. I had been craving something salty but comforting for a long time and the congee that I had was great! Although I recall coming here about 3 years ago, I remember enjoying their food. I like to get the rice dishes with the barbecued meats like pork, duck, chicken. I enjoy pretty much any kind of meat that has been cooked in a rotisserie and has the fat pretty much fried beyond oblivion. I believe that the food here was pretty tasty. My friend lives in the neighborhood, and she loves their razor clams/seafood dishes. I haven't had any seafood there though. It is delicious, their food, that is! Waiter had poor English language skills. Had to write the order. Each table had a steel container full of forks. Never saw that before. Checked a packed Chinese restaurant down the block-across the street and their menu prices had the same expensive items as 86 Fu Kee but not some of the bargains. There are a lot of people (many Asian) eating Chinese food in this small area. All the Chinese restaurants on the street were packed at noon. This restaurant had some bargains. Most of the others don't have any good prices at all. On a hot August day, the air conditioner was comfortably cool. Tried to find their hours, but none were posted nor did any appear on the menu. There's at least four or five other Chinese restaurants surrounding Fu Kee, but Fu Kee is one of the Chinese restaurants that I actually like. It's inexpensive and the food here is quite tasty. It's never failed my expectations. My only complaint is that it can get very crowded and tight at this restaurant which I do not like. This is fast food Chinese place, which I typically like a lot. My girlfriend and I came here after stopping by in Brooklyn for some other reasons and we got a recommendation for this place by my mom. We sat down and ordered a couple things. I got a chicken lo mein (gai see yee mein) and my girlfriend got a salt and pepper pork chop rice order. Both of the items could've used a little more flavor (though my girlfriend was especially unhappy with the pork chop's flavor), but for fast food chinese food, I thought it was alright. Would not recommend getting the chicken lo mein since it was pretty flavorless, but I did order a pork and pickled cabbage rice order (yuk see ja choi fan) that was really quite good and flavorful. I just can't remember it being on the menu and couldn't read the Chinese specials posted on the fish tanks. What I got was a heaping mound of wide egg noodles, tossed with a non-spicy sauce, occasional bits of bell peppers/veggies, and also random bits of somewhat chewy beef. Note to self: When a menu item has a red chili next to it and an asterisk claiming "hot or spicy" please be sure to confirm with staff that the dish is indeed actually hot and spicy. Not to self 2: Order Rosetta Stone and learn to say, "No really, can I get it authentically hot, not Gringo dude hot?"... in Mandarin, Vietnamese, Thai and Hindi. As you can probably deduce, I would have liked a bit more kick, a bit more flavor, and some more veg/protein - less noodle. But given the $6(ish) price, one could understand the bulk of the dish being the least expensive filler ingredient. Overall, it was pretty plain ++, but I'm willing to blame much of that on my choice of dish. The cooks up front were carving duck and other meats that looked good in passing. Surprised, and baffled at the same time, I didn't know what he was referring to or what he meant and he then goes EXTREME Cantonese on me saying that I'm not Chinese enough and tells me to order 2 lobsters for 10 dollars so that I can impress my Korean date. I was sold. Basically you need to order 25 dollars of food in order to get this promotion of 2 lobsters for 10 dollars. The Wonton noodles were pretty good but it seems like the highlight was the Lobster and the duck. The lobsters weren't overly battered in Corn starch and probably had about 30 stalks of green onions which is pretty good. The fried rice was pretty average- I've had better. Compared to its peers, this restaurant is really above average. I came here a few times with relatives and once with a friend. Dishes were usual big, greasy but delicious. We alway ordered two lobsters for $10, GREAT DEAL. The pecan shrimp dish was awesome. Jumbo fried shrimps with sauce (I don't know the name of it, but it was creamy and milky and sweet and sour) Lamb chops came in 5 I think, very delicious. Eggplant with fish sauce was really good with rice. The only things that I do not like about it are the noise and the atmosphere. Definitely not high class,loud and crowded. Went there for brunch the other day with my mother looking for a place with good congee. We didn't find it here. We ordered congee, chow mein, shrimp rice noodles, and the fried donut. The congee was decent. The chow mein was super oily. The shrimp rice noodles were covered with cilantro and green onion, and the fried donut was stale. We were the only ones at the restaurant when we came in, and only 1 other table came in during the time we were there (I guess people order take out instead?). Anyway, the service was completely lacking, I had to yell across the restaurant to ask for the check and boxes. I've had my share of chinese food, and Fu Kee is definitely not my pick. If you rather trade in flavor for cheap this is the place to go. Everyone raves about the cheap lobster, but I personally felt that some of my tail pieces were taken out of left out, the flavor was simply and not a flavor that would invite me back. The wait was not worth the food. TAKE OUT: My experience was horrible with take out, I had them deliver to my house a couple of times and every time the food seemed to be cooked carelessly and only one thing came to mind "since its take out they don't really care, its not like your sitting at the restaurant to complain to them" My friends and I ordered an order of beef w/ veggies and we literally had 7 pieces of beef in the whole order...not impressed with their take out All in all they get 3 stars for trying to cook authentic chinese food but one star because the take out was horrible, flavor was not there, and the food every time I've eaten there or ordered comes out extremely oily, which is a big turn off. read more
