My first time ever was back when they were still in the food court. The congee was amazing, and their roast pork and roast duck were legit so good. Ever since they moved to the new storefront though, every visit has just gotten worse. The spot itself is small but busy, enough that takeout orders are flying out. There's a self serve dine in area in the back, but it's unkept. I'm not in this area as often anymore, so it's even more disappointing when the experience doesn't feel worth the trip. The congee is still good, texture and flavor, but the whole experience a little sour now. My partner and I agree we'd rather spend our money at our usual spot instead. I get the usual service vibe for a local Chinese spot like this, but this time they unfairly charged me $25 for an appetizer that was literally just bits and ends. The service was rough, it felt like they were forcing pieces on us and couldn't care less. They didn't give us spoons for our congee, and they forgot our fried crueller. The flavor was incredible - way better than most I've had, and was the perfect thing to warm us up on a cold winter day. I loved the addition of peanuts to the top, something that many restaurants don't often do. No frills Chinese BBQ spot. I was surprised by the set up, tho not my first time seeing this. Everything is ordered at the counter, seat yourself, bus your own table. We ordered a duck noodle soup and a clay pot rice with Chinese sausages. Aside from the clay pot and the one metal spoon they give you, everything is in plastic to go containers. I would love to have actual tableware. Staff were nice though! The duck noodles were great. Good portions and hit the spot. The clay pot, less so, a bit too oily - maybe I ordered the wrong version. This restaurant has some of the best congee in all of NYC imho, along with some of the best Cantonese style roast meats (aka Chinese BBQ) as well. Honestly, you cannot go wrong with any of the congees, so I won't bother listing out everything I like (all of them). In regards to the roast meats, quality and taste is second to none, including famous spots like Big Wong in Chinatown. However, depending on the chef cutting up your meats, you could get some weird shapes and cuts. This is the one negative I have with their food. My favorite is their Sampan Congee (Tan-jai Jook), a combination of seafood and minced meat cooked together in rice porridge. Their porridge is always the right consistency that's perfect with a Fried Dough stick. Breakfast just doesn't get any better than this. Price is decent and gets you full. The wonton noodle soup tastes very similar to what I had in Hong Kong. The only complaint is the ordering process. Stumbled upon the most delicious and cheap Cantonese food on 8th Avenue. It doesn't surprise me at the amount of volume. I was coming off a long day of work and I ended up stumbling across Ng's Kitchen, which prior was located in Fei Long food court. Their food has never failed to amaze me as I have tried other restaurants roast meat. I always received dry and untendered meat but at Ng's Kitchen, they have never failed me. This restaurant used to be a stall inside Fei Long Supermarket and my family and I used to go there often. We never had a problem ordering from there until this new location opened. The workers at this location are SO rude. No matter how nicely and politely you speak to them, they will always answer with an attitude. It is disgusting. The only reason we continue to come is because they're the only place I know of that makes the fried cruellers and sweet bread for congee. I know a few other places on 8th ave makes it, but it is definitely not as good or as fresh as this place. I came early one Saturday morning around 8am thinking they'll have the fried cruellers ready since it is usually paired with congee for breakfast. The cashier told me it will take about 10 minutes because they are still making it. I told her I'll wait and paid for 5 orders. Another lady kept walking out from the back with one order each time of the fried cruellers and I thought they'll save it on the side until they had 5 orders ready for me. Instead of holding it, they decided to sell it to another customer that came after me, prolonging my wait for the cruellers. I said something the first time and the cashier said more is coming and to just wait. Then the lady came from the back again with 2 orders and kept it on the side for me but the cashier decided to sell them to another customer instead. I was super annoyed with how they handled the orders and didn't get my 5 orders until 8:45am. What was supposed to be a 10 minute wait ended up being 45 minutes. I would probably come back for the fried cruellers only. The best time to come for the fried cruellers would probably be after 9am. I was told the sweet bread isn't ready until after 9:30-10am. I ordered: Preserved egg (century egg) congee ($5) Sweet fried bread (basically ox tongue pastry) ($1.50) They offer so many congee varieties as well as noodles, bbq and rice like you can't say no to cheap but delicious Chinese food, you just can't!! They are well known for their congee. Back in feilong, there always used to be long lines for their congee. My favorite of all time will always be their preserved egg congee! No place else makes it like they do! And for $5, you get a large sized quart that is good enough for 2 servings. Don't forget to get the sweet fried bread which the official "Wikipedia" name is ox tongue pastry (ngau lei sou) from here because it is soooo good omg. It's like youtiao (Chinese fried oil stick) but oval shaped and much bigger. It's crispier and sweet! Seriously, forget Youtiao, this is going to be your new fav. Let me tell you, I am very particular about how I like my cha siew.. most places give out very dry cha siew and I end up tossing out the meal because of that.
