New 88 location in Manteca, was super excited to try. Place was clean but the tables were too small for the door we ordered. We had 4 people and the food didn't fit. This location isn't too big, roughly about 10 tables. We got the Xiao Long Bao, dumplings, fried bun and chow mein. The skin to both the Xiao long Bao and dumplings were too thick and the meat were slightly tight. The buns were delicious and had a perfect crisp when biting into it. The chow mein needed just a tad more flavor so we added soy sauce, that says a lot because I don't like salty. Overall it was ok. There wasn't much service, had to get our own water. This is the new bao place in town, in the new manteca shopping plaza. It's beautiful, small, and modern. We got lucky and found a table right away, but it's pretty small with around 8-10 tables in total. We were there at 4 pm on a Saturday- and all the tables were packed, the ones after had a wait, an togos were nonstop! The tiny place had surprisingly 14 ish people working. The service was great and pretty fast. We were in and out within the hour. The food we ordered was wonton chili ( looked great but was really a 3/5 because it lacked flavor and spice), we ordered a chicken tonkatsu Ramen (4/5 but still probably better than other ramen spots in town.) lastly we ordered bbq bao buns. The bao buns we left good- I had them for the first time. So not sure how they stack up. I think it's def a place everyone should try at least once. The flavors are mild but good. read more

So excited to try this place! My favorites were the pork xl bao, pork and veg steamed dumplings, sesame chicken, crab Rangoon and pork potstickers. I didn't care for the chocolate dumplings and the ramen was ok. I wish the place was bigger and had more seating. It's very small so not great for dine-in if you have a larger group. They should have a designated line for pickups since it's so busy, and you have to wait in line for people to order when your order is ready to go. read more

It was our first time at 88 Bao Bao and we're very impressed. It was small inside the restaurant, but we were seated immediately. We made it at a good time Sunday afternoon as it became busy. The tablet to order food was easy to use. It didn't take long for the food came out! The beef chow mein was so fresh with a good chew. Best chow mein I've had. My suggestion is, don't be like me and order 10 items all at once because the food came out so fast that there was barely enough room on the table for all the dishes. Our first time here to this brand new place that barely just opened and hands-down. This spot was my favorite. As we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away not so busy as we got there right when they opened lol I was so excited to try this place thanks to my hubby. The place the vibes the employees was amazing as we sat down. We were given the rundown on how ordering works. Pretty dangerous when you have the menu to yourself and you can just pick anything and everything to eat without even thinking how much you've ordered lol. As the food came out man everything was just so delicious so flavorful and fresh it was just all satisfying. ultimately my favorite plate was the wonton and chili oil. OMG I couldn't get enough. Wow, I may like the food and it's OK Ramen for the area. My complaint here is they show that they have gluten-free noodles. This is very misleading to a person that is gluten-free. While the noodles are gluten-free, none of the broth is gluten-free. Potentially the vegetable broth maybe they said, but then reading the ingredients it proven to not be. So why this place has gluten-free noodles you still can't eat here if you are good and sensitive GF folks another place in Manteca, you cannot eat. You definitely have to give this place a try. I went last weekend and was pleasantly surprised because the Chinese food in Manteca lacks flavor. There is very little seating inside but enough to accommodate 15 to 20 tables as long as there's not a large party. There are a few tables on the patio, which is where I sat, and it was perfect. You placed your order at the counter and then have a seat and they will bring your food to you. They have a wide variety ranging from traditional appetizers, lo mein, chicken and veggie dishes, and dumplings. I tried the orange chicken, which didn't wow me, but it came out crispy with plenty of sauce and chicken was tender on the inside. I also tried the chicken lo mein, which was delicious and the barbecue pork buns, which were actually pretty good. Service was extremely friendly and what I love is if you order a glass of water, they're gonna bring you a whole carafe of water. I will definitely be back to try more dishes. Lastly, and probably most importantly they are very reasonably priced. I was pretty surprised because you get a lot of food and this is a very reasonable priced establishment compared to other local Chinese restaurants in the area. read more

We luckily made it in before the rush and got a table. There are plenty of tables but very tightly squeezed in so unless other customers are being courteous it can be hard to sit comfortably. Long line of people who ordered but had no room for seating after us. The customer service was good. It's mainly self serve. They explain to you what you need to do like order on the tablet and get your own water which I liked. We ordered a few different dishes and I appreciated how they brought them out staggered so we can enjoy them fresh and hot. Everything was delicious but my only complaint was the dough for the pork fried bao buns and pork xiaolong bao was too thick and chewy. I'm a regular at the Dublin location and their recipes are a perfect ratio. Maybe since they are newly opened location in Manteca, they are still getting a hang of the dough so I'll be giving them the benefit of the doubt. My favorite dish was the triangle crab rangoons! They were crispy and made so perfectly warm and creamy with a sweet sauce to dip. I want to try the noodles next and different types of dumpling or bao buns dishes. Saw other people ordering them and they looked appetizing. Will update reviews as I make more visits. Hoping they fix what is going on with the dough for some of the dishes. read more
