The worst customer service. Bought almond cookies, they tasted rancid. The manager stated if the package is opened, it can't be returned and didn't offer to replace them. The manager also argued that the cookies were all delivered that day and supposedly fresh, but the package didn't have any date sticker. First of all, this market is in Temecula, CA. I can see that the owners have gone to great pains to make their market "western-friendly." Yes, they have thousands of Asian specialities. But, I would say they've expanded to the line to appeal to the ethnic trend in food tastes. A trip here is like going on vacation to some exotic land. There are so many new discoveries to be made, it's an absolute treat to walk the aisles and marvel at all the strange and inviting experiences which await. I would encourage management to set up tasting tables all over the store. Caucasians will be more likely to buy what they have sampled beforehand. The PRICES ARE UNBEATABLE! The PRODUCE DEPARTMENT IS THE BEST IN TOWN! And the attached little Filipino bakery/restaurant makes you feel like you have landed in Manilla for a quick bite. Sigh. I used to really love Ranch 88, but I find myself increasingly reluctant to go there. The biggest complaint I have is their lack of customer service at checkout. I try to give people the benefit of a doubt, sometimes people can be having a bad day. But, consistently, the checkers carry on with the baggers in Tagalog while ringing your order up (rude), they never smile at you, and never thank you for shopping there. I once had a question on the price of an item, and the young checker looked at me like I was crazy. The produce is cheap but seems lacking in quality, and from the smell of the meat department, I would NEVER buy meat there. What more can you ask for? This grocery store was much needed in Temecula, Inland Empire for that matter. Great produce that rivals other stores around and the immense Asian food selection is mind blowing. I love to go here for the incredible weekly sales. before I would run to several stores for weekly produce sales, now, I can find it all here! I come here every once in awhile, I prefer 99 Ranch in Corona, but dang it's so far out there. 88 Ranch tries to have the same items, but certain items you can only get at 99 Ranch. When I first walked in the market I thought it was some sort of Filipino market bc the only people working there were Filipinos and the Filipino chatter was real. I was so happy to stumble upon an Asian market since I just moved to the area. I lived in san diego for so long and the Asian markets was just a hop skip and away. I make lots of vietnamese and Chinese and Thai food so I thought.. "thank God there is a huge Asian market here!" I strolled down every aisle keeping note this market would at least have my cooking essentials. 88 ranch isn't a real market like the others with all the veggies and meat and seafood, but it had most of what I needed. OVER PRICED. I had to do a double take on the price to be sure. I felt outraged at the price but simply bc it would save gas and time, it's still cheaper to shop here rather than driving to San Diego. As far as the meat goes.. they don't have most cuts. This market has the Asian spices and ingredients but the products in there looked like they were catered to Filipinos. My disappointment came in full effect when they didn't have my fish sauce brand. This market is very general and basic. Nothing that a chef/cook like myself could go to if I was cooking authentic Asian food... oh and I would also like to add again, this place is VERY overpriced. read more

Not only that they have all I need for any Filipino dish I want to make, they can only fry fish you buy from there store. This is a decent Asian grocery store for people in this area. They have the staples for Asian cuisine, primarily Filipino. The produce is a bit sketchy and pricey, but you are paying for the convenience of not having to drive into town for groceries. I am not from this area so I would not choose to come here first. What bothered me during the most recent trip was the discrepancy in the listed price and the price a few items were scanned for. Generally, most stores would do a price check or just give the item to me for the price that I stated. I am very good at memorizing and comparing prices and would rarely buy an item I could get elsewhere for cheaper. Instead of doing what most stores would do, the cashier proceeded to argue that I grabbed the wrong items. Then she appeared annoyed when I said I did not want the items that scanned at the wrong price. Needless to say, I will not be returning. read more

I am happy about this new location. I could now walk in the aisles without complications. Everything is stored where they should be. Everything is clean. It can be a bit overwhelming with so many products when looking for only 1 particular one. With this new building, there are more variety to produce and everything else. It can be a bit confusing if the pricing is not present for certain items. In the little Filipino bakery store on the side, I was sad that the puto I had craved for was not the one I am used to eating. There were not many selections of other pastries to choose from either. None of which were what I am used not. All were of bigger size and ingredients somewhat changed from the original. Overall, I love it and is much better than before. They have all kinds of authentic Tea - green tea, oolong tea, etc. I am so proud to watch this market grow from a tiny hole-on-the-wall business hiding between car dealerships along Ynez Road to a full-scale, anchor market in one of Temecula's big shopping centers at the intersection of Ynez Road and Rancho California Road - a stone throw away from the 15-Freeway. TIP: DO NOT DO YOUR SHOPPING OR VISIT ON SATURDAYS or SUNDAYS if you do not want to get frustrated at the volume of traffic and/or shoppers in the center. This market is overflowing with customers/patrons during that time especially between 10am thru 5pm. The owners are hands-on in the operations. Temecula finally has a real Asian market. This new place just opened up after moving from the tiny store down the street. This place is like 20 times larger. It's like a clone of the "99 Ranch Market" stores. One thing is not like the typical Asian market - you don't have to navigate a freakin jungle of a parking lot to find a space. Maybe as it becomes more popular, that will change. They have a great selection of Asian foods. Prices are reasonable considering its location. I like the quality of the things I buy, but I'm very selective. I bought some fresh ginger, must be a "real" Asian market because the damn thing came in a 2 lb bag. I don't ever buy anything at the meat counter, so I can't say how good it is. I'm so glad they opened this place. No longer do I need to trek all the way to San Diego or Orange County to get my Asian fix. read more

I decided to check this place out when I aw an add in the mail with amazing sale prices on steaks. It;s not your typical grocery store in terms of products. There were some interesting items I'm not used to seeing. There seem to be lots of employees that are more than willing to answer questions. As long as they continue to have these sales on their meat I will be coming back. read more

This Asian market is very good. I have lived in Asia for many years. I have no problem with the produce, and can find everything I need to make Asian food, I am not Asian. However, the fact that there are usually only two check out lanes operating at a time, and you must join long lines to pay for your purchase is not good. Also, while the area where you could pickup your grocery carts was convenient, albeit really filthy, you now have to go to a cart line in the parking lot to get a basket. However, thank goodness they got rid of all that cheap Asian junk they had in the front of the store. read more

I have continued to read the reviews of customers shopping at 88 Ranch Market Place and I do not understand how people continue to shop there. Complaints range from rotten, spoiled fruits and vegetables which obviously indicates that they are shopping wholesale for inferior products and passing them off to consumers. Another problem which I consider more serious is the quality of their meats. A statement from an employee about their meats was that "they are so fresh, we do not need to put a sticker with best used by date" Does anybody in their right mind believe that???? If so I have a 5 acre parcel of land to sell you cheap just 5 miles west of Malibu..!!! I will make attempt to contact the applicable city or county agencies to see what are the regulations are regarding the sale of meat. Another problem is the mispricing of items. I read one of the reviews where a person complained that she bought an item listed (I think 2.99) when she got home she had been charged 8,99. But she says I will return to shop there because we need to support our Asian markets. Really??? I would not care if it was my mother's market. If she was not selling quality foods at reasonable prices without ripping off consumers, I WOULD NOT SHOP THERE!! So I live about a mile from this store which makes it pretty convenient for me to shop here for certain items. Overall the prices here are crazy high compared to other grocery stores, especially Winco. Their ad prices are usually pretty good but the ad its self is pretty confusing because they have weekly and weekend specials kind of together so unless you are really paying attention you may be paying more for certain items then you think. The main things that I shop here for is produce and meats. Once again the ad prices for the produce is outstanding but the everyday prices on most is pretty high. I think the quality is OK and they seem to keep the shelves stocked and fresh. As far as the meat department goes, they're a bunch of idiots! The same goes here as for everything else. The ad prices can be very good but the everyday prices are high. The quality is I think only OK unless it's an ad item and they are moving a lot of product. Otherwise I think a lot of the meats and seafood looks old. As far as the so called "butchers" go, they suck! For one they have a tip jar on the counter! Who tips their butcher? For two, they really won't do anything for you except take out the pre-cut meats out of the case, put them in a bag and weight it. One time they were having a really good sale on pork chops but they were cut too thin so I asked one of the meat cutters if he could cut me some fresh only thicker. He said yes but then seemed like he didn't understand what I wanted him to do. I told him that I want the chops cut twice as thick or a little more then what they were in the case and I told him how many I wanted. He went in the back and came out with them and when I got hope he had them cut in all different thickness's and one was about triple thick and more like a little roast. Now here's what really got me. I was here Thursday looking for some shrimp. They had a few different sizes and what not in the case and I asked the guy behind the counter if they were fresh or previously frozen and if they were wild or farm raised. He told me that he didn't know because he was a meat guy not the seafood guy who was standing 3 feet behind him helping someone else. I asked him another question and he said again he didn't know. By this time the fish guy was just standing there doing nothing. I said can you ask someone? He turned around and told the other guy I had a question and the he just walked away! Turned out that the fish manager(?) didn't know too much either. Wait, it get's better. A few minutes later I found T-Bones and Porterhouse steaks in the case in the back marked at $4.99lb. Great deal right. Every single steak of about 20 in the pre-packed case was priced at $4.99 except one of the 2 that I wanted was priced at $6.99lb. I went up to the butcher counter and wound up with my original guy who pawned me off earlier and asked him to repackage and re-price the one that was obviously mispriced. He had absolutely no clue why I wanted it re-priced. I told him that it was priced wrong at $6.99lb and every other one was at $4.99lb and this one was the one I wanted. He said he couldn't do that because he didn't want to get in trouble! I said get in trouble? This one is clearly mismarked! He said that he would need to talk to a manager but just stood there. I finally had to tell him to go get the manager then. Well, the manager was no better. This idiot looked at both steaks and when I explained to him what the problem was told me that the one steak was more money because it weighed more. I explained to him that yes I understand that it weighs more so it is more money but it should be priced at $4.99lb. He had absolutely no fucking clue what I was talking about. I showed him right on the package that it was marked wrong, took him over to the case where every other steak was priced at $4.99lb except this one and he still couldn't figure it out! I then asked for the store manager. On the way to get the store manager he gives me an analogy about how if I have 2 chicken and one is bigger then the other, the bigger one will cost more. I said yes it will but I also will be paying the same price per pound for them both. The point is the per pound price NOT the size! Well he explains to the store manager (named Anton) that I wanted the price to be the same as the other one and I told him again, I don't want the same price for the steak, I want the same price per pound. I know the steak will cost more! Well turns out that Anton the store manager is only slightly (very slight I may add) smarter then the meat manager. He could never figure out what I was getting at either and I was completely fed up so I just said forget it already, but he reluctantly said he would give me the steak at the same price. Now the 2 idiots are standing in front of a scale wondering how much to charge me. I had to tell them to weigh it and charge me whatever it weighs at $4.99lb. They still fucked it up gave me even a better price! IDIOTS! read more

As soon as we walked into this store, we couldn't get past the overwhelming stench of what seemed like sewer gases in the air, coupled with the smell of old fish and subtle hints of mold. Ended up buying a few fruits & veggies that appeared good, but most were MOLDY the next morning. If they buy rock-bottom wholesale outdated produce, I have to wonder how old their meat & fish is, if the smell is any indication. That's like buying food from a dumpster. I read a few reviews in which patrons state they were refused refunds for moldy or bad food. That's bad business. I threw all mine in the garbage and won't go back there. read more

The larger Asian market in the area. They have good fresh meats and seafood. They have good variety of sorts.. Though some things look like they are freezer burned in their freezer aisle, so I guess just check it well before tossing it in your cart/basket. Also, customer service isn't great.. not that I'm expecting the Disney motto "happiest place on earth" to happen.. but at least have cashiers that are interested they have customers. I basically went through the checkout without being acknowledged, I said w/ a smile "hello" -nothing... they rang up my things-not even a glance, nothing even said of how much the total was.. I slid my card and pressed all the buttons.Bag person and cashier talked about a party that so-and-so was having. Was handed the receipt-still not even glance in my direction. Quality of meat here is bad .bought pre-package beef bone and 2 frozen box of shrimps...after i got home and open it smells...it was a long drive there so i decided to cook it...still not any better...I would not buy any pre-package meat or frozen meat from here again...what a waste of money...the price here is expensive for asian grocery store. read more

While having a decent selection and a very nice and friendly woman at the check out, they upcharge at the register. I dont know what they are trying to do, if they do not update their system to match prices on shelves, if they are running a scam or if they do it selectively at the register. For every item I purchased, they were .50 to $2.00 HIGHER at the register then what was posted on the shelving for the appropriate item. Maybe because Im white? Didnt check receipt till I got home at the end of the day, which I should have because this is not the first time it has happened and I live on disability in another town. I am so completely disappointed in this market. I believed last time it was a fluke, gave them the benefit of the doubt. Now I know its not a FLUKE BUT PRACTICE. Customers BEWARE, check your receipt before you leave, dont wait till you get home like myself and from what I've read on here now, good luck getting management to fix it.
