I noticed this food truck while visiting Venice Beach and decided to give it a try. A huge deal for me as I simply stay away from food trucks. The electronic menu board posted outside, clearly displayed the numerous items avail as well as prices. The employees working inside of the truck were very friendly and ready to serve. I also had several questions regarding ingredients as I dislike soy sauce and anything salty. I was assured my dish would lot have either. My wife decided on the pad see ew and I decided on the Pad thai w/chicken and tofu. Ten minutes after placing my order, I was advised my order was ready. Not sure if 8E8 has a different quality menu for their pop ups at UCLA, but I definitely didn't think they ATE with the items I've tried from them this past year. As someone who eats Thai food pretty often, I didn't find their items the most authentic, although they definitely do fulfill any cravings I have and are very accessible in the UCLA area. My major problem is that their food either doesn't fit the description, or is improperly cooked. I've had their chicken pad see ew, which had raw, half-cooked chicken and an overwhelming taste of white pepper. Their chicken pad Thai on the other hand contains a few pieces of tough, dry chicken breast. Their spicy pad kee Mao/drunken noodles don't have any spice in them.....you can probably get a good idea of how disappointing even their staple dishes are. We came near closing time but it still took 15 minutes to make. I think there was only one person taking orders and cooking so pretty impressive. The prices are reasonable but what made them stand out to me is their custom take out box and bag - nicely design & sturdy. The utensils, napkins, and sauces were available at the front for you to grab as needed. Beef Kee Mow/Drunken Noodles ($15): He recommended the drunken noodles over the pad see ew but it was very disappointing. The beef was overcooked and chewy. The noodles were lacking flavor so my husband added extra soy sauce. Chicken Pad Thai ($14): He made up for the beef drunken noodles with the chicken pad thai.
