You can taste all the herbs, seasonings, and time they took to prepare. The broth is a little on the thicker end, but super filling. -Seafood Kalguksu: the broth is so flavorful and it comes filled to the brim with all types of seafood! The spice actually pairs really well with the seafood too. If you want a spicy stew, this is it! Noodles are thick and chewy too. -Bossam: so yummy! I wish I could get it more often but it's a huge portion, so come with a group so you can try it and the noodles! Everything is quality- the bossam slices, the lettuce, the toppings on the wide. Chefs kiss! My only small gripe is the portions are so big that when I come with one other person, we only have the stomach capacity to eat two dishes! Always excited to come back and try more.

I think I've been coming here for a very, very long time--probably for about 20 years! I used to come here quite often back then. At some point, though, I stopped coming as much because the parking situation in this shopping center became so busy and chaotic that it was difficult to even get in from the entrance. Also, the last time I came here, maybe two years ago, the valet parking attendant was so rude that I didn't really feel like coming back. This time, since we were already in the area for the spa, we decided to stop by again. Back when I first started coming here, it was just a very small noodle restaurant. One thing they've kept all these years--and what I think is such a great touch--is that they still serve yeolmu kimchi and kkom-bori-bap (barley rice) as a complimentary side. The restaurant became incredibly popular over the years and eventually expanded into the neighboring space, so there are now many more tables than there used to be. Since it had been such a long time since my last visit, I noticed they had quite a few new menu items that weren't available before, including galbi-jjim (braised short ribs), samgyetang (Korean ginseng chicken soup), and galbi noodle soup. One of my brothers and I ordered the perilla oil makguksu each, and it was absolutely delicious! It had such a rich, nutty flavor from the perilla oil, and it was one of those dishes that makes you think about it again later. In the past, I would always order the clam kalguksu whenever I came here, but this time I decided to try something different. My other brother ordered the clam kalguksu, and my mom had the dolsot (Hot stone) bibimbap. I tried a spoonful of my mom's dolsot bibimbap because I really like bibimbap too, and it was delicious as well. In the past, the wait here used to be incredibly long. You had to write your name and phone number by hand at the entrance, and then a staff member would come outside and call your name when your table was ready. This time, the system was different. We were told to simply wait in line, and she would take our orders outside. She said the wait would only be about 5-10 minutes, and she was absolutely right. While we were waiting in line outside, she handed us menus, took our orders, and then seated us at our table. The food came out quickly, the service was very friendly, and everything we ordered was delicious. It turned out to be a very satisfying dinner. After coming back here again after such a long time, I completely understood why this place has been so popular for so many years. It was just as popular back then as it is now, and honestly, I can see why!

And the rice is a little on the dryer side and it sticks to the container- so when you scrape up the last bits of rice, you could be eating the paper from the container. I like that they use compostable containers though!! But yeah the rice is on the harder side especially as leftovers. But whatever, their main items are bomb and makes me not care about anything else. Service is quick! Note: it is not a sit down restaurant. You order (ahead) and park on the street and call them to let them know you're outside. They'll bring the food out. Reception isn't great outside fyi. For many factors, I can agree with that after my experience grabbing food there that still tasted amazing after traveling back to my hotel, and then to the convention center an hour after pickup. It's a fusion of Korean and Hawaiian comfort fare - primarily plate lunches with a spin on the ingredients and flavors. They may be a bit pricier and in a smaller box than the usual plate lunch, but owner Timothy Lee packs them in! The aesthetics are fantastic, too, with the purple rice, various sides and furikake, and seasoning sprinkled with love. Everything is extra flavored but not overly powerful, and the ingredients taste very fresh and intentional. The food is made to make people happy and full. - Beef For plate lunches, you have a choice of side (potato-mac, cucumber kimchi, or Korean greens) - you can even sub the rice with another side. Their beef plate is actually a meat jun, which is slices of ribeye beef served within an omelette, sliced into strips. It comes with a delicious soy-based sauce, which honestly it didn't even need. The egg was subtly sweet, and meat was quite tender. I was surprised at how much meat there was after I kept eating every slice. There's definitely enough for more than one meal. I loved having this with the cucumber kimchi, which was heaven - it tasted like they paid attention to every individual slice. - Shrimp Garlic butter flavored shell on shrimp fried in a way to make the shell pretty edible! The fry reminded me of cornmeal-crusted style; light and very crispy. The shrimp were thick and fatty with tons of garlic flavor, which integrated so well with the rice. I had this with the potato-mac, which was extremely creamy and smooth, with surprise pops of chopped macaroni noodles. I liked how it was simply mash, finely minced eggs, and macaroni, with very tiny traces of other ingredients. - Spam Musubi It's a solid musubi made with purple rice, which didn't make it taste too different from normal white rice musubi. Fun treat, but the main stars are still the plate lunches and other sides. The owner made sure to treat me well on my first visit to Broken Mouth, and offered some of his favorite flavors off Aloha Maid juice cans. Even without his kindness, Broken Mouth is one of the best places I've eaten at ever, so is much deserving of the accolades. I hope to come back every time I ever find myself in DTLA!

My family and I came in today, middle of the afternoon so a bit slow, to a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Our server Jaime opened the door to the restaurant for us and personally showed us to our table. Despite the restaurant being quiet, Jaime was incredibly attentive and recommended several dishes to us, all of which were great. First, the appetizers: the fried zucchini chips are lightly dusted with truffle and are paired with a delicious garlic aioli that really whets your appetite. They were crispy and savory, a perfect start to the meal alongside the crispy rice tuna, which are a bit like poke nachos, except the chips are seaweed rice crackers that give a crunchy and welcome spin on the dish. The mango drizzled with eel sauce also added a nice sweet element that paired nicely with the slightly spicy tuna. Second, our entrees, which included the burger, chicken penne pasta, and chicken tikka masala: the burger was juicy and savory, including lettuce, tomato, pickles and cheese, and is one of the better burgers I've tasted recently. It comes paired with some thin fries that are perfectly salted, as well as a side of ketchup, of course. I ordered the chicken penne pasta, though when it first came out, I saw it had linguine instead of penne. Before I even said a word, Jaime took notice and immediately apologized, bringing back the correct order within minutes. He was incredibly kind and professional about it all. The penne was cooked al dente and served with a delicious vodka sauce that really made the dish. The dried tomatoes also added a light sweetness that balanced out the chicken. Finally, my favorite dish was the chicken tikka masala. Other reviews praised this dish, and so my father, not a fan of Indian food, decided to take a chance on it. It was the best dish we ordered! Everyone wanted some due to the two distinct sauces on the plate, one almost like a jam with a citrusy taste, and of course the curry itself, which should be noted is not at all spicy, and has a wonderfully balanced flavor making it suitable for anyone to eat. It was so good, I wish I had ordered it. If you come here and only order one thing, make that your pick. Once again, thank you Jaime for making our experience so memorable! Jaime is a seasoned waiter who has worked many restaurants in the LA area, so we are familiar with him.
