Love 9 Dish Tofu House! One of my favorite things about this place is how they give you mini banchans (side dishes). The portions are perfect for getting to taste a little bit of everything, and if you want more of any of the side dishes, they're happy to refill them! I ordered the yellow croaker combo in the regular size, and I was honestly surprised by how big the fish was lol. It was so good -- crispy on the outside with so much meat inside. The tofu soup is always delicious too! The service here is also really good. The ajusshi who works there is so nice, and they're very accommodating to families with children, which I really appreciate. I wanna first start off with, be patient! This is a small restaurant and the waitlist can be inconsistant because Korean people tend to take their time with their meal. This means that the tables won't rotate out as well but that is Korean culture. After waiting for around 45 minutes, me and my mom finally sat down and ordered the two combos, one with Spicy Raw Crab and the Mackerel. The food itself came out quickly. They actually start you off with a small salad and mushroom soup which is perfect to set your stomach up. The Soft Tofu was delicious and flavorful with their housemade Kimchi making the whole pot. They are not lying about the 9 dishes !! Dropped by with my parents on a Friday evening, and it was a really great experience! We ordered a bibimbap, mushroom soondubu, and bulgogi. The bulgogi was marinated well, and the mushroom soondubu was comforting and flavorful as well too. However, the highlight for me was the quality of the side dishes! Each one was so different, and several of them were unique - not ones I normally see as a side dish at a soondubu restaurant. My favorites were the cold tofu, potato salad, and tteokboki. Service was also exceptional at this restaurant, and all the workers were so nice! We never had to ask anyone to refill any side dishes as they were constantly offering. We came to this place since we've never heard of it. The parking here was easy as it's in a big strip mall. Luckily, we got there at a good time because there was no wait and we were able to get seated as soon as we got there. The place is clean and service was very good. I opted for the mild beef soondubu. I was pleasantly surprised with the mushroom soup and salad, that was a nice touch. I probably could have had another cup of the soup but I didn't want to get too full because I knew that the banchan (side dishes) were refillable too. They had marinated quail eggs, apple salad, kimchi, ddukboki, kimchi jeon, soy bean sprouts, and more. Everything tasted so fresh and it was very delicious. Super delicious! My boyfriend and I were actually attracted by the presentation of all of the food that I saw on Yelp. The actual inside is smaller than I thought, but it filled up quickly after we got there right after opening. We were greeted immediately & sat down with menus (must be pricy with the ink!). After ordering two combo sets, one hot stone bibimbap & galbi with original medium beef soups, we got two appetizers of a salad and mushroom soup. I loved the soup! It was quite yummy and salad was a good starter. I imagine they could even sell the soup on the side for kids. It's rare that a restaurant gives out free starters these days. The main dishes were amazing! Love the presentation, it was sleek and organized and just the right size. Having a variety of side dishes will always be a plus for Korean restaurants. It did take just a bit of time, but that's expected for a restaurant that just opened. The soup is salty and had a lot more beef than I expected. The galbi is a generous serving size, maybe just a bit too many onions on the bottom. Love love loved the bibimbap, this was the first one in a while that I could actually taste the individual flavors of the vegetables and be yummy. I thought the side dishes would be the star but I thought in terms of taste they were pretty standard. I love chive pancakes, but them being cold made them taste a bit oily. The quail eggs are unique, I think they might be canned though? I would say the variety and main dishes are what makes this place great. This place is in a nice quiet plaza in Tustin. The servers here really make you feel at home and I can see the manager really cares. What's amazing ARE the 9 dishes of banchan that come with your order! I've tried their spicy bulgogi once and also their beef soup, spicy level. All are great options for me because I can eat a lot. I eat a lot so I'd go with the spicy pork bulgogi again, but they will refill the banchan anytime. I liked how attentive the are as well, it never seemed like I had to wait long because the servers were all right there each time. Then a tray with Banchan sides and rice are presented beautifully to each diner before they bring out the tofu soup and/or main entree. Everything was delicious! The Banchan sides are refillable... the kind staff will stop by to pick up the empty little dishes and bring them back filled. The tofu soup is more "concentrated" than BCD's soup. Seems like there's less broth served, but each spoonful of soup has more flavor punch. Love the peaceful, calm interior. Staff are all friendly and welcoming. Some non-typical banchan include marinated quail egg, and their potato salad is on another elevated level, full of crunchy apple. The variety of banchan was excellent and I loved that each person has their individual portion. Would be really great if introducing someone new to Korean food. The soon tofu was also yummy. Since their banchans are made fresh each day, the selections are rotated which definitely promote freshness in all of their dishes. My mom loooooved her bibimbap and the LA Galbi was the kid's favorite. They had such a great time making little seaweed paper + rice + Galbi bites. I didn't get to try the tofu soup because I ordered the spicy raw crab and was obsessed!!! They provided gloves so I also wouldn't get my hands dirty. Even though there isn't a kids menu, the staff is ultra accommodating to children and this is something I really value when eating at a restaurant. It's harder than it looks but when the kids feel welcomed and comfortable, I get to also really enjoy my meal. A new tofu house that really stands out from the rest. The place was small and busy, but luckily didn't have a wait on a Wednesday evening. We started with a complimentary salad and mushroom cream soup as a refreshing start to the meal. Banchan came out next, once again offering light and sweet flavors. We ordered a bulgogi combo and raw spicy crab combo. Bulgogi was cooked well and had similar profile to the banchan - a little sweet and not too heavy. I had the intestine tofu soup with it, spicy was the perfect level for me. The spicy raw crab is a wildcard - not a lot of tofu houses can boast that they offer it. I'm more used to soy marinated crabs and I think it's a tad below in quality compared to places that specialize in raw crab, but considering how delicious it was, I can't ding this place for that. As a Korean living in OC, it's honestly hard to find places that give you that comforting, homey feeling. I will always support family-owned businesses vs chain restaurants and it's not just because it's family-owned, but it's just as good and many times even better. The banchan portions instantly reminded me of how my mom would set the table, and yes, you can get refills. The scallion pancake was hands down my favorite- it tasted just like home. Safe to say, the next time I'm craving sundubu, this is where I'll be coming back.
