They are not lying about the 9 dishes !! Dropped by with my parents on a Friday evening, and it was a really great experience! We ordered a bibimbap, mushroom soondubu, and bulgogi. The bulgogi was marinated well, and the mushroom soondubu was comforting and flavorful as well too. However, the highlight for me was the quality of the side dishes! Each one was so different, and several of them were unique - not ones I normally see as a side dish at a soondubu restaurant. My favorites were the cold tofu, potato salad, and tteokboki. Service was also exceptional at this restaurant, and all the workers were so nice! We never had to ask anyone to refill any side dishes as they were constantly offering. This place is definitely a sleeper that you don't wanna miss out on. The spot is quiet and the service is great considering they are relatively new. John was our server and was attentive to everything we requested for. What's different about this spot is that you do get an appetizer course of a small salad and small cream of mushroom soup. You can ask for more if you want. The cream of mushroom soup did have a nice body albeit a bit sweeter of a cream for my liking. The salad was kind of a cabbage slaw with a honey mustard like dressing which was nice. I ordered the hot stone bibimbop combo with the original beef soon tofu soup extra spicy. I'm used to BCD spicy so it doesn't compare but it's got a kick. Also the flavor of this soup was really fortified and well balanced. I kept going back to this soup. The bibimbop was deceptively large and had a large mix of veggies and the spicy bibimbop sauce served on the side. I could only finish half considering the amount of veggies to rice ratio. Wife got the small LA Galbi combo with medium seafood tofu soup and the gal I was a nice surprise. Most LA Galbi is super sweet on the marinade but if you don't mind pepper, this place has a really good Galbi marinade with a hit of pepper for another layer of flavor that went well with the bibimbop as well. BanChan-wise, they had an apple, cucumber and lotus root salad that caught me. It was really nice and crisp. As for the kimchi....i ordered 4 more small plates of it between my wife and me. They also had small kimchi pajeon that were absolutely delicious as well as their small side of tteokbokki was absolutely gas as well. The really sleeper that I couldn't stop eating were their small side bean sprouts....holy. Their small side order of the soft tofu with sesame oil was delish but I wasn't a fan of the mushroom with peas and corn. It had a sweet and sour sauce that threw me off. Overall, place was clean, ambience was quaint and music in the background. Table breakdowns are pretty quick too despite what seems to be a small brick and mortar team. But I highly recommend this spot because the food overall is something to put into your Korean fix rotation if you're in the Tustin/Irvine area. read more

Their sides are definitely the highlight because they're so unique from the typical ones you see, but also soo good with free refills. I got the LA galbi combo which came with a small tofu soup. I liked how they have a small and regular option for their combos. The small was $28.99 and the large was $34.99. The tofu soup and galbi tasted a little different but still good! If you recognize John (the owner) from All That Shabu in Irvine, you already know the level of incredible service to expect at his new spot, 9 Dish Tofu House (which he opened for his wife!). We stopped by close to closing on a Friday, received a warm welcome, and had a fantastic meal. We ordered: 01. Soy Bulgogi ($27.99) - 5 Stars - Thinly sliced, incredibly tender, and perfectly balanced. Better than BCD or Kaju! 02. Kimchi Tofu Soup with Beef ($18.99) - 4 Stars - Fresh, steaming hot, and flavorful without being overly salty or too spicy. 03. Complimentary Banchan - 5 Stars - A unique, refreshing variety. The variety of banchan was excellent and I loved that each person has their individual portion. Would be really great if introducing someone new to Korean food. The soon tofu was also yummy. The main dishes were amazing! Love the presentation, it was sleek and organized and just the right size. Having a variety of side dishes will always be a plus for Korean restaurants. Luckily, we got there at a good time because there was no wait and we were able to get seated as soon as we got there. The place is clean and service was very good. It's a truly legitimate Korean restaurant that brings elevated casual dining with beautifully presented, incredibly delicious dishes. I didn't get to try the tofu soup because I ordered the spicy raw crab and was obsessed!!! They provided gloves so I also wouldn't get my hands dirty. The tofu was delivered piping hot! The "9 dishes" for its namesake consisted of 2 small appetizers (salad and cream of mushroom soup) and 7 banchans. The 2 appetizers are served in portion size the same as the banchan plates. The banchan are refillable by request, we had no issues or denials during our in-store dining. The soft drinks were plentiful in options! Aside from actual soda, there were milkis and barley tea and other selections. The cans are displayed at the cashier in a "glass" display. The server John described the spicy levels to flavor packets of Jin and buldak ramen, which was pretty creative and accurate! He did come by after observing us sipping it to ensure the spice level is what we "think it is", and it was! The store is a sleeper per our May visit: I don't think people are aware it's here as it's still pretty new. We would visit again! Warning: depending on your timing, please be patient with the kitchen! We arrived after a party of 6 ordered. We suspect they're trying their best to cook everything in a timely manner: within 10 minutes of the large party was served, our tofus came right after! Pricing: For $19.99 of unlimited banchan and lack of Korean tofu options in the immediate Tustin area, we think the pricing is tolerable. (As in, no other tofu places to compete and drive down the pricing.) It can never be as "fast" compared to BCD Irvine as it's a much smaller store and therefore not as many stoves cooking tofu. Also, BCD has the "volume" to offset costs for the small croaker and raw egg. 9 Dish DOES have croaker/fish on the menu, but as "combo" with the tofu. The fish is MUCH BIGGER than what BCD gives you - we did not order but saw a table next to is that did. Will try this next visit! We think the 9 Dish tofu is the same flavor profile and umami as BCD. As our group was eating, we were already planning to come back. 9 dish tofu house just opened, and it did not disappoint. I hope the quality and service stays up to what we experienced because it was so nice. I'm not sure if there are any reservations, but I imagine it'll get packed quickly if you don't arrive early or on the weekends. Our server (and maybe manager or owner??) was very kind. We had our 2 year old, and he was engaging with her. He even gave her an extra soup since she didn't order an extra of her own. Throughout the meal, there were a few touch points but nothing aggressive or did we ever felt rushed to go. The presentation - 10/10. I really appreciated the individualized plates for the bonchon, which was still unlimited! Some items I've never seen before and others were a variation of something I've had before. The entrees were good. I especially liked the crispiness of the fish. The tofu soup was good. The only thing I'll add is the onion pieces were sort of big but not a big deal. We'd come back here again for sure! read more

What a wonderful new addition to the city of Tustin! So pleased to have another sundubu option in the area. The restaurant is small but aesthetically modern and clean. This modern and clean look extended to the table settings and banchan presentation. I found the prices to be pretty reasonable and in line with other tofu restaurants in the area. I got the seafood tofu and spicy crab combo (small). I can't tell you how happy I was to discover that they had yangnyeom-gejang! Not many places have it, especially around here. I loved all the banchan options (which are refillable) and the sundubu was solid. Mild was truly mild so if you actually want a hint of spice go with medium or spicier. I do wish there was a little more seafood but flavor was good. All the employees were so nice and attentive. I can't wait to come back and try the mackerel! read more
