Dumpling Tofu
Christine L.

The tofu was delivered piping hot! The "9 dishes" for its namesake consisted of 2 small appetizers (salad and cream of mushroom soup) and 7 banchans. The 2 appetizers are served in portion size the same as the banchan plates. The banchan are refillable by request, we had no issues or denials during our in-store dining. The soft drinks were plentiful in options! Aside from actual soda, there were milkis and barley tea and other selections. The cans are displayed at the cashier in a "glass" display. The server John described the spicy levels to flavor packets of Jin and buldak ramen, which was pretty creative and accurate! He did come by after observing us sipping it to ensure the spice level is what we "think it is", and it was! The store is a sleeper per our May visit: I don't think people are aware it's here as it's still pretty new. We would visit again! Warning: depending on your timing, please be patient with the kitchen! We arrived after a party of 6 ordered. We suspect they're trying their best to cook everything in a timely manner: within 10 minutes of the large party was served, our tofus came right after! Pricing: For $19.99 of unlimited banchan and lack of Korean tofu options in the immediate Tustin area, we think the pricing is tolerable. (As in, no other tofu places to compete and drive down the pricing.) It can never be as "fast" compared to BCD Irvine as it's a much smaller store and therefore not as many stoves cooking tofu. Also, BCD has the "volume" to offset costs for the small croaker and raw egg. 9 Dish DOES have croaker/fish on the menu, but as "combo" with the tofu. The fish is MUCH BIGGER than what BCD gives you - we did not order but saw a table next to is that did. Will try this next visit! We think the 9 Dish tofu is the same flavor profile and umami as BCD. For the convenience alone (actual Tustin), we will visit again. (Versus driving 15+ minutes to Irvine.)

We came just after opening on a Sunday and it was full! We used Yelp waitlist. Only two staff front of house so they were quite busy taking orders, brining banchan, bussing plates and cleaning tables. We started with some creamy mushroom soup and small salad. Before the entree we got eight banchan dishes, with egg upon request. Refills if you want more. The tofu soup was hot and filling. We god mild but we should have ordered one level higher since we didn't quite taste the heat! The Bimbimbap had a nice crispy rice, with gochujang hot sauce upon request. Plenty of parking in the strip mall.

We came to this place since we've never heard of it. The parking here was easy as it's in a big strip mall. Luckily, we got there at a good time because there was no wait and we were able to get seated as soon as we got there. The place is clean and service was very good. I opted for the mild beef soondubu. I was pleasantly surprised with the mushroom soup and salad, that was a nice touch. I probably could have had another cup of the soup but I didn't want to get too full because I knew that the banchan (side dishes) were refillable too. They had marinated quail eggs, apple salad, kimchi, ddukboki, kimchi jeon, soy bean sprouts, and more. Everything tasted so fresh and it was very delicious. The soondubu itself was spot on, normally when I eat at these tofu joints, I have a lot of soup leftover but I barely had any this time around. I would for sure come back, I would love to try their kalbi or bulgogi next time.

This is a solid Korean restaurant! No wait during lunch time. Staff were very friendly and offered recommendations which were helpful. Ordered the spicy soft shell crab and LA galbi combinations with the seafood soups. Each combo came with cream of mushroom soup, salad, and their own bonchon which was refillable. The soft shell crab ahd a nice kick to it while being soft and juicy. The galbi was pretty standard with what I've tried before. Overall solid food! Clean bathrooms and tables. Def will come back!

My new favorite Korean restaurant in Tustin/Irvine area! Got the yellow croaker (regular size) combo and the Atka mackerel combo. Every meal starts with cream of mushroom soup and mini salad. Then a tray with Banchan sides and rice are presented beautifully to each diner before they bring out the tofu soup and/or main entree. Everything was delicious! The Banchan sides are refillable... the kind staff will stop by to pick up the empty little dishes and bring them back filled. The tofu soup is more "concentrated" than BCD's soup. Seems like there's less broth served, but each spoonful of soup has more flavor punch. Love the peaceful, calm interior. Staff are all friendly and welcoming. Definitely will return often!!

Banchan (not pictured was a salad and tiny bit of mushroom soil to make up the 9 dishes)

We came and got the galbi and mixed tofu soup. The entrees were great but the side dishes (banchan) were gourmet and delicious! The banchan can be refilled! Some non-typical banchan include marinated quail egg, and their potato salad is on another elevated level, full of crunchy apple. They also have a flash fried sweet and sour mushroom side dish (not my personal fave but appreciate the novelty!) Banchan come with your meal, fyi Service was friendly and accommodating. This is a smaller restaurant and I can see there being quite a crowd. This is probably best for groups of 4 or less due to the restaurant size.

Spicy Marinated Raw Crab, so good!!!! LA Galbi (small) combo with small tofu also depicted

The food is amazing and the service is outstanding! We came on a Sunday around 4:30pm and the restaurant was half full. For 5 adults and 2 kids, we ordered: Bibimbap Combo with the small tofu soup LA Galbi Combo with the small tofu soup Spicy Raw Crab Assorted Tofu Soup - regular size Each combo comes with a small mushroom soup and salad appetizer, rice (sans the bibimbap because that's a rice dish), and banchan, which you can ask for more of. My mom loooooved her bibimbap and the LA Galbi was the kid's favorite. They had such a great time making little seaweed paper + rice + Galbi bites. I didn't get to try the tofu soup because I ordered the spicy raw crab and was obsessed!!! They provided gloves so I also wouldn't get my hands dirty. Even though there isn't a kids menu, the staff is ultra accommodating to children and this is something I really value when eating at a restaurant. It's harder than it looks but when the kids feel welcomed and comfortable, I get to also really enjoy my meal. I selfishly don't want to write this review because I don't want there to be a wait to eat here, but I also want this place to stay forever so I can keep coming back. I highly recommend it!

Despite the numerous tofu shops popping up around OC, this one especially stood out to me! First noticeable point was the beautiful presentation, it really felt intentional and all the ingredients seemed of high quality. Some of these side dishes were unique and I haven't seen this done at other restaurants which I loved! The side dishes were delicious and the variety was most appreciated. What set this apart from other spots was their tofu soup and I find that typically the spice in the tofu soups kind of takes away the actual flavor but this restaurant balances everything well. Service was personable and prompt, the servers really took the time to accommodate each and every customer. Would come back here again soon to try their other dishes.

New sundubu place in Tustin! It has a great atmosphere and I loved that it's pretty chill and quiet. What stood out the most was all the side dishes you probably won't see at other tofu places! You get a lot of variety and they're small but you can get refills. The soup was flavorful and the seafood and beef came with crab inside. It was so hearty and warming, it was a bit hard to find the beef since they're really small pieces. Pretty pricey unfortunately at $19-$20 per soup, but with all the amazing side dishes it's a must try

Plain dumpling tofu soup and banchan

I was craving some soup and 9 Dish Tofu House came up in my Yelp search so I decided to give it a try. I ordered a Plain Dumpling Tofu soup since I was trying to avoid spice and I needed a nice hot recovery meal. This soup hit the spot. I've only ever eaten mild-very spicy soondubus and the plain (non spicy) option I ordered today was still so flavorful and delicious. My fav part of the meal was all the unique banchan options. I loved the quail egg, rice and fish cake, apple, and the pancake side especially, although all the sides were delicious. The takeout packaging is also next level. Everything looked prepared with care and tasted amazing. I will definitely be coming back to try the spicy tofu soup next time!

You know it's good when you see ahjummas eating here!! Very authentic and cozy korean spot! The side dishes are different from other larger korean restaurants. I am definitely coming back to try the galbi next time. The food takes a while to come out but I'm willing to wait for good food. Service is great, the owner is very attentive! I recommend coming earlier right when they open to avoid wait times.

Starter salad & mushroom soup

Super delicious! My boyfriend and I were actually attracted by the presentation of all of the food that I saw on Yelp. The actual inside is smaller than I thought, but it filled up quickly after we got there right after opening. We were greeted immediately & sat down with menus (must be pricy with the ink!). After ordering two combo sets, one hot stone bibimbap & galbi with original medium beef soups, we got two appetizers of a salad and mushroom soup. I loved the soup! It was quite yummy and salad was a good starter. I imagine they could even sell the soup on the side for kids. It's rare that a restaurant gives out free starters these days. The main dishes were amazing! Love the presentation, it was sleek and organized and just the right size. Having a variety of side dishes will always be a plus for Korean restaurants. It did take just a bit of time, but that's expected for a restaurant that just opened. The soup is salty and had a lot more beef than I expected. The galbi is a generous serving size, maybe just a bit too many onions on the bottom. Love love loved the bibimbap, this was the first one in a while that I could actually taste the individual flavors of the vegetables and be yummy. I thought the side dishes would be the star but I thought in terms of taste they were pretty standard. I love chive pancakes, but them being cold made them taste a bit oily. The quail eggs are unique, I think they might be canned though? I would say the variety and main dishes are what makes this place great. Also the service is pretty amazing and more attentive than other spots. Definitely my new to go around that area.

The food was absolutely amazing! The servers were so attentive from the moment I walked in until I was done, they never made me feel uncomfortable when I asked questions. The ambiance was very relaxing; their decor isn't overpowering, and it's very welcoming.

Best decision of my late night misadventures in a long time! It was very filling (you could probably order one item and split it or have plenty of food for leftovers the next day), it's not inexpensive but it's great value (but then again $20 for a meal out is kind of going rate standard so maybe it is inexpensive or comparable to most anything else you could choose?), and it's great quality. The soup is a combo meal that comes with rice, glass noodles, fish cakes in sauce, and kimchi. You can also modify the spice level to make it more mild or spicy depending on your preference. I don't know why I am so obsessed with the soup but I'm going to think about it for a while because I was 100% lost in the sauce while eating it - after you get halfway you can put the rice, part of the kimchi, and (maybe) the fish cakes in the soup so it gets closer to porridge and break up some of the blood sausage to mix it throughout. Service is friendly and can recommend different things to eat. I got my order as takeout but the dining atmosphere is really good for how close each table is to one another. Everyone still has enough space to be on their own but because you're closer together it kind of feels communal.

You can tell this place has a strong base of regulars too, I saw a mix of friend groups and families casually walking in like it's their go-to spot. We ordered the cold noodles combo with jokbal (pork hock) for $30.95. Portion wise, it's SOLID for two people. The cold noodles were refreshing and really hit the spot, especially if you like that clean, slightly tangy flavor. The jokbal was very decent. Not bad, but if you've had it in Korea, you'll notice it doesn't quite hit the same level still totally "usable," just not standout. Value, this is where they win. We got full off just one combo, which is rare these days. Plus, all the usual Korean side dishes are complimentary, and they also served a warm bone broth at no extra cost. I've honestly never had that offered like this before, and it made the whole meal feel extra comforting and homey. Small detail, but I also appreciated that the table was already fully set up with bowls, utensils, and water which makes everything efficient. Overall, really solid experience. It actually gave me a bit of that Seoul nostalgia, which is hard to replicate. Definitely coming back to try more dishes.

(Pretty sure it's just the owner) who was very friendly, but the other staff had a huge attitude, the girl who dropped off our side dishes dug her hands into the dishes to grab two at a time which was super unsanitary. She threw the last side dish on our table while she was walking away too. I wanted to be optimistic about the food even though the staff gave a terrible first impression. We ordered two soups. They were both super bland. My partner and I kept debating whether or not to ask for more salt because of the lack of seasoning in both of our meals. Even the side dishes were lacking flavor and looked like they were sitting out for a long time. The only good thing I have to say about this place is the kind lady (probably owner) of the restaurant. Everything else was a huge let down. I wanted to like the food here because there's a lot of good Korean restaurants in Irvine, and this could've been one of them but sadly it's not worth coming back.

And I could already tell from the moment I entered. Although the establishment looks modern, it has a traditional feel, with wooden tables, flat chopsticks, and the friendly but bustling Korean auntie waitresses who eagerly refilled the banchan at our table. The soondobu came out pipping high and I had to wait a little so I didn't burn my mouth. But with the first bites, I experienced a warm, comforting flavor with its deeply rich broth and silken tofu. Pair this meal with the marinated fish cake, fried fish, and japchae noodles and you have absolute perfection. I'll be returning soon for another meal~ (And yes that definitely beats BCD in terms of taste, cost, and wait time.)
