Over the holidays, I tried out 985 BBQ on a Saturday around lunch time. 985 BBQ overtook an old Golden Corral location so the interior is very open and spacious. We were happy to find out that the lunch menu applies on the weekends too! $24.99 for lunch and $29.99 for dinner. You can opt for the dinner menu if you want more beef options. Since it was our first visit, we stuck with the lunch and it was more than enough for us. Some of the meats we ordered: - Beef Brisket - Beef Bulgogi - Spicy Beef Bulgogi - Pork Belly - Spicy Pork Belly I enjoyed the beef brisket and pork belly the most. Banchan offered are japchae, corn cheese, kimchi, sesame broccoli, pickled radishes, egg soufflé and rice. Japchae, sesame broccoli and egg soufflé was tasty. I wasn't a fan of the corn cheese as it came out in these little aluminum cups with cheese on top and it's left on the grill until the cheese melts. The service is good. You cook the meat yourselves here, but our server came around to take our orders and change the grills pretty often. 985 also offers a ramen bar for an additional cost at the center of the restaurant. They have a ton of ramen options for you to choose from and various toppings to add a la carte. Overall, it's a decent AYCE KBBQ at a good value. Nowadays, $25 AYCE KBBQ spots are rare and for that price point, I'd consider this a 3.5 rounded up to 4 star. read more

I've heard great things about 985 and have been meaning to try it for a long time. I finally came recently with my family (party of 8 adults & 1 child). We were expecting to eat AYCE, but apparently there is a cut off time for AYCE, and we weren't able to order AYCE which was disappointing. I believe we came right before 8PM, and they closed at 10PM so I was surprised when we were told AYCE wasn't available. But no big deal, we chose to stay and dine anyways, and we're glad we did! We mostly ordered the marinated galbi which was a favorite among most of us. I'll be honest, I'm not sure what other meats we ordered because we basically asked the server which meats were the popular ones and asked for those. I do know one of our meats was beef brisket, which is usually one of our favorites, but I wasn't impressed with their brisket. But that might just be because their other meats were so good that they overshadowed the brisket. We could definitely tell that the meat is higher quality here, and they marinate well that you really don't even need to dip them in any sauce. In addition, they offer plenty of banchan and are great about refilling it as you empty even without being asked. I love the cheese corn, egg, and bean sprouts around the grill. I'm not sure if this is always the case or if we had a really great server, but we didn't have to worry about cooking, flipping, or cutting the meat at all. Our server took care of everything our entire dinner. He was very attentive and kept offering us other dishes to try. At the end of our dinner, he even packed up the bones from our meat to go for us because we jokingly asked for it not actually expecting that we'd be allowed to take it. read more

If you are looking for great korean bbq using hot coal then 985 BBQ is for you! We ordered the beef combo for 2 and it was more than enough! A little pricier than the AYCE but cuts of meat were good quality. Only thing is that I wish there were more options for sauce. Service may be a bit sluggish compared to some other bbq restaurants but it is inconsistent. Sometimes the servers are super attentive and quick to take your order and provide side dishes and water... then other times you wait and wait after requesting items. It is a very large Korean bbq restaurant. I do like that it never gets smoky in here even though everyone is eating Korean bbq... excellent ventilation. It is on the more pricier side but the meat quality is good. There are some side dishes you must request because they are cutting down on waste so will not voluntarily provide it to you at the beginning of service. read more

Finally visited 985 KBBQ in Buford. I've heard very good things about this place and how good the service and meat quality is here. It did not disappoint! For the month of January 2024 they lowered their AYCE prices to $29.99 instead of $40.99. Definitely an amazing deal considering how much better the quality is from other places around. The servings per round are a lot bigger as well. My favorite things from the AYCE menu were the Marinated Pork Neck and Short Ribs. Sooo so good!! The sides are really good too. Rice, Japchae, Cheese Corn, Kimchi! They got it all. No rice cakes though. The cocktails are very delicious and balanced when it comes to the strength and sweetness of the drinks. Plus 50% off Mon-Fri. The place inside is super spacious. Doesn't feel crowded at all and they have a great grill system with extractors so you don't leave smelling like straight smoke. Our server Emily was super attentive. Cooked all of our meats pretty much while having like 3 more tables. Explained the menu and gave recommendations which made the experience more enjoyable. First timer and will go back if I'm in the area for dinner. Very low stress as the waiter cooks the food for you at lunch. I know of places where you have to cook your own. Be prepared to eat and eat. All of the side dishes to eat with the protein are great. Highly recommend using the radish like a taco and stuff it with sides and mear. Pretty much similar to other numbered kbbq places lol like 9292, 678, or 770. You've been to one, you've been to all of them, and that's not a bad thing either. Kbbq is all about meat quality and options along with what Korean side dishes are included and 985 has a lot of those options. The restaurant is where the old Golden Corral used to be off of the 985 interstate highway. They use pull down smoke ventilation so you won't be overwhelmed by smoke like at some other kbbq places that have vents that are not adjustable and just sit above the table. You can see my photos to get a general idea of what they have to offer. Overall though the meat quality was good and the combo offers good amount so you don't need to go for the AYCE option. If you're a fan of kbbq and are in the Buford / North GA area, it's definitely worth checking out as they've been needing a good kbbq spot in this area for a while now. read more

They don't let you DIY. Big & spacious place. Lots of tables. Do not have to wait 60-90 mins to get seated. The not so good: I was seated in the middle of a long table with 2 burners and the girl serving us is literally next to me, so I don't have my space and privacy to eat. She's constantly next to me because she's cooking for us. Meat quality is just OK. Less meat selection & variety compared to others. It's an alright place if you haven't been exposed to KBBQ yet. I've been to a lot of Kbbq spots and this one is one of my favorites. All the staff are very nice and attentive. Mila was an awesome server. They also have a cute robot that brings beverages and plays music. The place just opened and it is spotless, love how the tables are spread apart and you have more room. It doesn't feel cramped and it's super loud. Nice bar area and full bar as well. The food was great and I loved all the sides. If you want more of one side theyll bring it. The big thing here I like is they allow you to take your left overs home bc it is not all you can eat! Just this alone will bring me back here. I never understood why I couldn't bring my food home when it wasn't all you can eat and I paid for it. I also found out that they will be doing bimimbap soon! This restaurant is located just at the SW corner of the 985, Buford exit - 104. The restaurant at 2.10pm was well-patronized. There were about 2 or 3 staff who were working the entire floor of customers - kudos. The atmosphere was inviting. Lots of big TV sets hanging on the walls. KPop music videos playing. Kpop music from the speakers. I like the music being played but could be a tad softer. There was a huge menu with ala carte items, there was also combos for 2 to 6 people. There was also AYCE option for lunch at $41 per person (before tax). Lots of choices. We were a party of 3, therefore decided to get Combo for 3. It had a great selection of meats. Definitely much better than AYCE. Banchan were plenty, loved them all. The hotplate to cook the meats came with a rim that contained corn & cheese, eggs and marinated bean sprout. So good and something different. The meats we got with Combo 3 were pork & beef - loved the short ribs (plain and marinated & pork belly). The serving was huge. We couldn't finish them and took some to go. Tip. The servings are huge. Order combo for 1 less person and you'll still be stuffed. Service was attentive. Restaurant was clean. read more

985 BBQ is another number chain Korean BBQ restaurant to the metropolitan area and a very welcome edition. This restaurant sits off the entrance to 985 hence the name. Upon entering the service is good as there will be a hostess/host that immediately addresses each customer and answer any questions. I've gone here for both unlimited and gotten the sets, but the sets are 100% better if you don't mind the amount of meat. The sets are a higher quality meat and the hosts will cook every meat for you and check in every few minutes if they're not super busy. The set for 2 and sets for 4 I would recommend, but any group more than 4 people it might not be enough food. The only complaint I've had is the set for 6 felt similar to the amount as the 4 set and was pricier than the AYCE. The sides are standard for any KBBQ restaurant. The service can be questionable and hard to reach some days depending on how busy they are, it has varied from experience to experience so YMMV. read more

I have visited many Korean BBQ and restaurants. This one is on the bottom of my list. The main issue here is the food quality. The banchan (side dishes) typical of all Korean restaurants are of average quality but poor preparation. Not even the kimchi had the right taste or texture. I had the bulgogi, sliced brisket, spicy beef ribs and seasoned beef rib. With the exception of the seasoned beef ribs, the rest was very low quality and the presentation was just awful. The sliced brisket is served frozen, the other meats were a pile of shaved meats that looked old and rotten. Very little taste as everything seemed prefrozen. Not even the only dipping sauce they use had a good flavor. It's a shame as the location and restaurant is very nice and the service excellent. But if you cant get the food right, no point in being in business. read more

Took my wife there a year or so ago and it was good. High-quality meats and sides for what you would typically get in a Korean barbecue place. However, it was way overpriced. Everything on the menu was nearly $100. And when you order your meat plate to be cooked, the meat was sliced up and dressed up fancy, but quantity wise didn't go far between the two of us. And for those prices, you would think it was all you can eat, but it was not. So not really surprised they went out of business. Buford has a huge Asian population. They have about 6 combos to choose from. We chose combo A - the all beef combo. It is usually a combo for 4 people but the husband & I usually don't eat pork. This place is right off hwy 985 down the street from GA mall. It used to be an old buffet back in the days. Now converted to KBBQ so it's really big. Great for large groups. Decor is very open and just like any typical kbbq place really. They do give you a variety of ban Chan which I do love the best about this place. I also really likes the kimchi fried rice at the end of the meal, it was very good too. We ended up ordering the all beef combo comes with different cuts of beef only. With the combo, it comes with complementary rice, kimchi, veggie soup, and warm fermented bean sauce in a clay pot. that was a definite plus. It was only four of us, and that was plenty enough food. They do serve a full alcohol menu. I believe we ordered some blue tropical drink, and a old fashion, and they both came out very pretty. It was not very busy and had a 15 minute wait, was told that they did not have enough servers. Several parties arrived about the time we were seated and they were seated promptly. They really didn't have enough servers as we waited for additional 20 minutes to get order take. And when finally came out there was no one to cook the BBQ so my wife started doing this. I was ok waiting how long was told because they were doing it to ensure that server was freed up. But then if still a server shortage others coming in later should have waited. Meat was pretty pricey for what we got. 3 people was just over $210 before tip and was not that much food. To many other good Korean BBQs around Duluth area to go here again. read more

Went here with family and had a delicious dinner of Korean BBQ and naengmyun. We ordered combo C and 4 naengmyun. The cold noodles had a delicious broth and the meat was good quality. The price was a bit high but for the quality and experience it was money well spent. We enjoyed our meal and will be back. Parking is plentiful and service was good overall. So my review is an accumulation of multiple visits. First, in my personal opinion, meat quality is probably the best one around town. My first visit was amazing (I was introduced by someone). Better side dishes than other Korean BBQ places around metro Atlanta area. Thus, I decided to make the effort to visit whenever I got chance because this is by far the furthest Korean BBQ place (Buford, Georgia). Here is where the management failed every single time I visited this restaurant. The waiters are fine. They do a fantastic job like other places I have been to, but the overall business operation is largely flawed. Here are the items, which indicate inexperienced management from what I have observed. (i) Every time I visit this restaurant, the side dishes are inconsistently provided. Sometimes you get 8 or so great items, and then other times, we get 3 or 4. This tells me the back kitchen and management are not keeping a consistent supply of food in the back and cannot forecast the week. Huge red flag. (ii) Hostess and management do not understand the capacity limit of a restaurant. As an example, today is a great one. The hostess kept sitting people down even though she should have known that the restaurant was short staffed and short supplied. At one point, the restaurant was at 90% capacity and 80% of the people sat down staring at each other without food for 20 to 30 minutes. The hostess should have been instructed or maybe she was and didn't know what she was doing to have people paced based upon how many servers you have working during the shift. The waiters were running around with over the limit of tables they can actually handle and going back and forth in the kitchen to expedite food service. The situation got so bad that the waiters had people just abruptly leaving the table pissed off and other times the waiters had to apologize and let the patrons know that there is no more food to serve the table after being sat for 30 minutes without food or fire. It was a complete nightmare. What tipped it off even more was that the same hostess sat down a part of 20 elderly Koreans, and for an entire 1 hour that we saw, they never got anything but water the entire time. (iii) Inconsistent meat portion. As mentioned with the side dishes. This is a no surprise. When the management cannot forecast food properly and know that they are running out of food, I have also noticed that the meat portion is also inconsistent. Even though you pay for the same price, you get less meat. (iv) The fried rice at the end can be a shoot or miss here too. Because of poor management, sometimes you will get your fried rice at the end and sometimes you won't. BUT you still pay for the same price of selection you pick out of the menu (the combo). I say my first experience was the best one, but other than that, I noticed all these irregularities and inconsistencies, which exemplified poor planning and management. What is frustrating to see is the wait staff suffering. They live on these tips from customers and they are getting no tips or very little because of what the management is doing. Today, this was the first time where I felt so bad, I gave extra to my waiter even though we didn't get all the items from the combo menu. He was visibly frustrated and I had to tell him it is ok and that I understand what he is going through. Like I said, the meat quality is great, but your experience will be a Russian roulette. read more

It's been a few weeks since I was here with my baby cousin. But it was a great experience, we went around lunch time so it wasn't busy. The service was amazing the young lady that helped us was very nice and very helpful. She could tell we had never been there before. The stew they served before the meal was DELICIOUS OMG. The place is open and big since it used to be a Golden Corral before. It's been renovated very nice! In front of the bathroom, there's a pretty wall with flowers and a chair to take some cute photos. Everyone there is very attentive and friendly. They cook and serve you at a timely manner. I would only recommend this place if you have a small group of maybe 4 or less, cuz they don't do all you can eat here. So the price for a set to feed 6 people was $220.99, but it would only feed probably 4 people depending on how much meat they eat. It was good quality beef and pork, but after eating two pieces of whatever was cooked, they were already cooking the next piece of meat. Thankfully the side dishes are good, but even after ordering a bowl of rice and eating the set and side dishes, I left the restaurant still hungry. So if you wanna pay more money than regular all you can eat meat, cuz the meat is super good, then this is the place for you.
