    Bunnies!

Shopping in San Diego, California... I brought my cousins here to take a look. I wanted to find the mini tote bags, but of course, there were none. This store was really crowded with customers. I guess we came at a popular time because the lines to say we're long. I was going to get some custard tarts, but gave up. I really liked the bunny decorations... Moon Festival is coming!

I do love 99 Ranch Market on Claremont Mesa blvd. Parking is usually a hassle, but I got here at 5 o'clock and people weren't off from work yet. They have a full bakery, which I love everything from cakes, pastries, bread, milk, bread, desserts, and other flaky pastries from sweet red bean to Taro buns. They have an assorted grab and go items from chicken baos, barbecue pork baos, smoked duck, smoked chicken, other side dishes as well. They also have a full Chinese restaurant, if you will where you can order other dishes from noodles, stirfry, other side dishes, that they make right in front of you. Fresh fish, they will fillet, clean, and even fry it for you. They also have fresh crabs, today they had Dungeness, large and small, lobster a good deal at 16 bucks a pound I believe they're from Maine, clams all sizes, Manila clams, other types of crabs as well. They also have a huge frozen section of meat, dumpling, noodles and others. Their produce section is huge everything from bok choy to various cabbages, mushrooms, and more. Numerous tofu and fresh noodles. Love coming here I always over by but heck.

Typical Asian super market with all variety and live, fresh, frozen and deep fried seafood. Live king crab, live Maine lobsters, live dungeons crabs, Greenland turbot halibut, Chilean sea bass, Ukraine sea bass collars. Smelly and crowded with small aisles and long wait at fish and checkout counters. Love the fresh durian, longan, rambutan, Hawaiian papaya, champagne mangoes, jujube, mangosteen,,, Prepare to get pushed and yelled at fun ambiance if you are not the first time else get lost. BTW they have 10% off for students with any college student ID. Praise for this especially during this time.

I like brewing hot tea when I wake up in the morning.  Often it is jasmine tea I get from 99 Ranch.  It's economical and I like the light jasmine flavor.  This is something I don't do on vacation though as I don't want to bring all my tea stuff with me.  Now I have a Umi travel tea set to try out. https://www.umiteasets.com/ I was pleasantly surprised by the Maneki Neko Lucky Cat Travel Tea Set.  My household found the Neko Lucky Cat to be the cutest tea set ever.  I liked how light the set was in it's carrying case.  My tea strainer was just the right size for the pot.  Neko Lucky Cat's paws were perfect for holding the tea pot and pouring.  While the tea set was constructed of lightweight materials it did provide good insulation.  My tea stayed hot while in the kettle.  Very cool tea drinking experience.  Next time I go on vacation I'll bring along the tea set, my tea strainer, and some tea. My kid Mari will love using the tea set next time she visits as she loves tea and Lucky Cats.  Maybe for Christmas I'll get myself one of their fancy tea sets for the house

I love stopping by 99 Ranch in Clairemont whenever I'm in the area. Came here to grab some papaya for homemade papaya salad. This location is one of my favorites because of the restaurants inside and the food court perfect for quick grab-and-go meals at reasonable prices. Always a solid visit!

I always buy half or whole roasted duck at Hot-Dali every time I go to this market. I shopped at 99 Ranch Market in many locations for more than 10 years. I always enjoy their roasted duck. This is the first time I got bad service and also duck is not full cooked because many parts still have red blood. So very disappointed!!! I live far away from 99 Ranch Market so I don't have time to drive 20+ miles back to return.

    I love these soooo much.

I haven't been here in years! We came to pick up our grandkids in Claremont and had to stop here to get these chips! They are a healthy delicious snack and inexpensive. I wish there was a store like this in Hemet, CA. I miss the delightful cultural foods from San Diego.

I didn't know where to leave my review for the 99 "food court," so I figured I might as well review the whole market. Growing up, I came here every Saturday with my family for groceries. We'd occasionally have lunch at the spot next to the baked goods section, where we always buy a couple of desserts. They give enormous portions at the end of the day - seriously, like double the normal amount. I miss the custard/red bean pancake-breads(?); I haven't seen the lady selling them in years, and I hope she's doing well. I don't know what I'd do with myself if this 99 Ranch closed. Please never close.

Very good and quick. Just point and they will get it. No clue what I was getting and went off of looks. Very tasty! best.

6/8/25 - love this place! Bought 2 item combo with a noodle or rice option for $11. By the bakery. Enjoy.

    Lunch. Less than 18 dollars

The best food in town when you want to eat healthy and on a budget. Great fresh food and taste

I love coming here to get my Asian groceries! The fruits and veggies are always super fresh. There's also a lot of variety. They have a nice seafood section at the back of the store, and what's great is that it doesn't stink up the whole store (like some of the other Asian markets). They have a deli that sells hot food and bakery. I've tried it on more than one occasion and it's pretty good and very reasonably priced. The market is clean and always well stocked.

Huge portions for 2 item combo (box hard to close)

This review is primarily directed to the hot food choices inside the 99 Ranch Market. You can get a 1, 2, or 3 item combo. I ordered a 3 item combo and asked for no rice or noodles and the lady overloaded the takeout box with huge scoops of my 2 items. All this for $10. The food was great, not overly salty or greasy, and was hot. If you are feeling like a takeout Chinese meal and don't want to wait at a sit down place, definitely consider walking in and getting a combo. As I walked out, I saw Sam Woo also has a similar offering--will have to check that out next time (guessing probably very similar pricing and options). ----TL;DR---- Pros: quick, reasonable price, hot food and good variety to choose from. Cons: no sit down service, just grab and eat there or have it to go Bottom Line: easy, quick, huge portion size!

***This review is for restroom use only*** It was late Saturday evening. My daughters and I had left the La Jolla area. On our way back to the resort, we were looking for a store or restaurant with a restroom that was still open at the time. We found this 99 Ranch Market. Luckily, it was still open. It was near closing time though. There weren't a lot of people. We quickly walked in, used the women's room, and walked out. Restrooms were clean and well stocked. We did walk around the store for a little bit just to see what they have. They pretty much have the standard meat, seafood, and produce sections. I love their frozen fish balls... perfect for hot pot! I find it interesting that this 99 Ranch sells flowers. I don't recall any other 99 Ranch that I've been to sells flowers. Anyway, I didn't buy anything since we were leaving town the next day. Thank you 99 Ranch for the use of your facilities! We'll offer our support and patronage the next time we're in your area. Btw, they share the space with various shops. Wushiland (aka Oo Tea) is one of them!

2/17/24. Pastries are fresh, soft, big, and tasty. Buy 5 get 1 free!

Apparently everything is from local small farms around San Diego and possibly a few things owner made. A lot of items didn't have pricing which for me prevented me from buying more but I actually just went shopping elsewhere before stopping in so I would've bought more. The fruit and veggies are not all nice and shinny like at the grocery stores, these items look to be straight from a farm imo. Don't expect to find everything in perfect shape or that you don't have to look through the fruits or veggies and if you know, you know! They consistently carry some of the best-quality produce currently available from San Diego and the surrounding areas, thoughtfully curated with real care. Misses are rare, and when something isn't right, they always make it right. What really sets this place apart is the knowledgeable team. They can tell you not just what something is, but where it's from, why it's special, and even how best to prepare it if it's new to you. They know which watermelon varietals are sweetest (and why), which tomatoes are best for different uses, and how to guide you toward the best choice of the day. We also appreciate the simplicity of the space. It's clear the focus is on quality produce rather than unnecessary overhead or décor that doesn't add to flavor or nutrition. We come in knowing our weekly staples, and we always look forward to discovering a surprise treat or seasonal treasure to add to the basket. We recently lived in Spain for a year and deeply miss the fruterías found on every corner, places that genuinely support daily health and well-being. In the U.S., truly good produce can be harder to find, with so much emphasis on mass production and appearance over flavor and nutrition. The Fruit Stand comes as close as we've found to that European produce experience. We're grateful this place exists and grateful for the care they put into what they offer. Thank you for being here--and we'll see you next week.
