For how often I come here, I'm surprised I never left a review. I usually come for lunch. Usually get a cheeseburger. I will say that at lunch service can be a little slow since they usually only have 1 or 2 servers. But that's OK. I'm typically not in a rush. Today I decided to try the lobster roll Off the summer menu. They have both a hot and a cold lobster roll. The cold is $29, the hot is $32. I got the cold. I've been eating a lot of lobster rolls lately, and $29-32 is a bit on the higher side. So I was a bit disappointed by the amount of lettuce stuffed in the roll. Who wants lettuce in a lobster roll? They now use the Toast app to pay the bills. When I scanned the QR code to pay via my phone, good thing I checked the actual check - on the Toast app they were charging me for a cup of coffee. At 8:00 this morning I thought about the email I received a few weeks back for the $6.99 burger special on Mondays, and I love a good burger any day of the week but THAT is is a great deal. Stopped in at noon, there might have been a couple of people seated in booths but I took a seat at the bar. It was me and 12 guys all around, many seemed liked regulars and Joey the bartender was quick to take my order and bring me a nice Angry Orchard. My burger was ready in no time, Samantha (I think she is Waltham's GM?) brought it over to me and it was perfect: medium well, still nice and juicy and the cheese was melting nicely. This was the best lunch I have had in a LONG time (I am usually home by myself and eating oatmeal or a boring bowl of soup), and I am definitely going to stop in again (and sit at the bar, I overheard some funny conversations). My fiancé and I moved to the area over a year ago and are just now getting a chance to try 99! Not sure why we waited so long?! We had incredible service from Jessica, and the rest of the staff was very pleasant, from the host stand to their management team. We could not get over the bang for our buck here - the serving sizes were plentiful and the quality matched it. We had cocktails, an appetizer, a salad and an entree...no notes! I have to write on behalf of my disabled friends who go to this restaurant regularly. When they go out, they too often get annoyed and/or dismissive service, but EVERY time they go to the 99 restaurant in Waltham ... they get friendly, EXCEPTIONAL service. The food is consistently great (even when it's busy and a little slower than usual), but the amazing part is how welcoming, supportive, and kind the servers are that work there. It clearly trickles down from the manager who role-models what it truly means to be a family restaurant. It makes me want to patronize this 99 whenever I'm in Waltham. And you should consider doing so too! read more

It's not inevitable that the quality of a restaurant declines over time. Some do! And, it's always a management problem. My last time here was about several years ago and I had the prime rib special. There was nothing special about it, probably because it was a Sunday afternoon no good cuts left. My recent visit, 11/15/25, about 7:30 PM, was a great disappointment. I ordered the broiled smothered tips and a beer. My sides, mashed potatoe and brocholli were not even warm enough the melt the whipped butter. The waiter did replace them with hot sides. Its been a long time since I had some meat so bad!!! I about wore out my jaw chewing this stuff; even then I had to swallow some pieces whole after trying to tenderize them by chewing and chewing and ........ They did not tast like they had been marinated which of course tenderizes the meat some if marinated long enough. This meat was even tough to cut with the provided steak knife and the amount of meat wasn't much more than what you'd get with a good hamburger. A dollar for the veggies and $25 for the meat (!?!??). Not again for me in this lifetime!! Shortly after 8 PM, there were few people at the bar. It was strange for what used to be a busy place on Friday and Saturday evenings. I know a lot of places never came back to pre-Covid levels after the pandemic had run its course and If this is atleast partially responsible for what I saw, I don't know what you can do. I placed an order for a chicken finger dinner for my husband who was confined to bed with a severe sciatica attack. He wanted extra chicken with the order. When I arrived to pick it up it was not the chicken finger dinner but a boneless chicken finger platter which has an option for extra chicken. No ones fault. I called my husband to see if he'd be satisfied with that meal but he wanted the other chicken. I was assisted by one of the managers named Jared who was very pleasant. He said my order would be ready in a few minutes and that I could keep the other chicken dinner for free. I said I would pay for it but he said no it's free. My mother and I ended up eating that chicken and it was very good. My husband loved his meal. Thanks again Jared, you're one of the nicest restaurant managers I've come across! read more

I had a friend who initially planned to take me to this restaurant but we decided on a different one so I decided to try it on my own. I was given a high top on the bar side by the host. The server took my drink order and came out with it plus the complimentary popcorn, that I wasn't expecting. I asked the server what the best items on the menu was and she recommended a few things. I went for the seafood chowder to start. I initially wanted the baked stuffed shrimp but I wasn't able to switch out both sides for a wedge salad, so I got the seafood chubbies and wedge salad instead. The seafood chowder was bland. It needed salt and pepper added. The chubbies and salad were good. The restaurant looked like your typical chain restaurant that serves a larger menu. read more

I got the seafood Trio I would have never guessed that that thing was going to be so good. The scallops are perfect, the shrimp looks a little unadvertising cuz they're so small and pink but they're so good. The fish is where the problem was, it wasn't as flavorful or good as the rest of the items. I also got a baked potato which you can go wrong with. Our server was cool, she was punctual and attentive. My dad also got the seafood Trio and he loved it. My mom got the chicken parm she couldn't even finish it, my daughter got this chicken wrap she got it without cheese before they even brought it out to us they realized they put cheese on it and just remade it for her. It was the worst restaurant experience we had in a very long time. Bad food, even more terrible service!!! My Significant Other said that the burger bun was like dried rag that had been stepped on a few times, and the burger was dry, and tasteless. My haddock was bad quality, and they brought an incredibly bad Cesar Salad that was made with dried up iceberg lettuce instead of the grilled asparagus that I ordered as my side. The waitress later showed up, and took the salad away, and brought the thinnest cheapest asparagus that I had ever seen. We decided to NEVER go back to this place again. read more

Met up with a college friend after 40 years at this 99 restaurant. The server could not have been more gracious with allowing us to stay a couple hours to reminisce. There were 4 of us, 2 of us ordered same Triple seafood dish and 2 of us ordered Baked haddock. Seafood was very fresh. Had chocolate cake dessert which was so-so. Service was great even if our server hadn't sampled a lot of restaurant offerings as of our date of visit and , therefore, couldn't comment on any suggestions. The 99 was my go to place before the pandemic. They had a great lunch menu with $9.99 meals. Gone are those days ... like everywhere else costs are up so prices are up too. I got the Southwest Fajita Chicken Bowl to go. There was a lot of lettuce that could have used some kind of dressing. Eating it something seemed missing. There were pita breads in the house and I made pita pockets which were more satisfying to my taste. There was nothing wrong with the meal and I will go back to the 99 and try something else. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon post Corona virus. We are inside at a booth. There was just one waitress to handle half the restaurant so that shows how busy the place was........... not. I ordered the scrod dinner. I figured how can you go wrong. It was ok. Nothing to brag about but we were there more for the conversation than for the food. They had just started a new policy where they no longer had menus. Everyone was required to use their telephone to access their website to view the menu. This was the first time I have ever encountered this. From what I understand it was because of the corona virus. Fortunately we had a phone but not everyone does. We did have to wait about 15 minutes to pay our bill. Why do they let this happen right before it is time to tip. Overall I would say it was average. read more

My family used to come to this 99 every now and then, but we hadn't been for a few years. We finally made it back, and honestly we were disappointed. Everyone knows that 99 isn't an upscale restaurant, but they still didn't even meet our low standards. My dad was given a dirty knife, and after sending it back, the waitress kept forgetting to bring his new one. Eventually he gave up. My classic burger was weirdly dry and honestly tasted kind of burnt, not in a good way. My mom ordered the lunch steak tips and they were so chewy that she had to spit it out after chewing - They really were that bad. The schrod was OK (but drenched in butter) and you can't go too wrong with the fried shrimp. Their boneless buffalo wings are fantastic. The potato wedges are good too, but for some reason I feel like they used to be better. Overall I would come back for JUST apps and drinks. Their entrees are subpar and the dirty knife grossed me out. I guess you get what you pay for though! read more

The order was ready on time. That was the only good thing. Way over priced lobster roll because there wasn't much meat in it. Their "loaded" baked potato was just a microwaved potato with a sprinkle of cheese and a sprinkle of bacon bits. It should be called sprinkled potato because it's definitely Not loaded with anything except disappointment. All in all it was a pretty bad meal. Father's Day we went here because our kids absolutely love the food we have regularly gone here for family nights out. We went here and the waitress completely forgot my 1 year olds food (simple hotdog) we waited no joke 2 hours for a hot dog alone and when it arrived it was undercooked and cold to the touch. I returned the food to the manager who made us pay for the meal and gave me a coupon to rectify the situation. He was extremely rude as well. Hostess was terrible! She didn't acknowledge our presence when we arrived. It was not busy (4pm on a Saturday) and we were coming from a sports tourney. We decided to sit at the high tables near the bar after confirming with the hostess the high tables were "seat yourself". After waiting 15 minutes for a waitress to take our drink order, I went to the hostess station to ask if a waitress was assigned to our table. The same hostess (Emily) was very rude. She told me I had to be patient because they were changing shifts and that we may have to wait another 10 minutes. Her attitude was terrible. Fortunately, a waitress did stop by the table as I was speaking to the hostess. The waitress was great and made the experience much better. The 99 Restaurants have very good food for a reasonable price. The Waltham location 99 is our favorite. We ate here for years but stopped coming when covid hit but life without their lobster roll, fish and chips and french fries is miserable so we began doing take-out. Their take-out is terrific. They never forget to add the salad dressing or the utensils the way some places do. On a good night we'll get Jillian or Tamara! They always get everything right. They will even bring the food out to the car if you want. read more

Picked up a take-out order from this 99. Ordered quite a few dishes and was surprised at the amount of styrofoam containers they used. Entree salad, fish sandwich, burger, two order of chicken fingers in kids meals and an order of buffalo chicken - was like 6 styrofoam containers. All, these orders and they didn't offer silverware or napkins - we had to go into the restaurant and ask for them from a server - as we were staying at a neighbor hotel. Food was good - tasty, condiments on the slim side - just barely enough dressing on the salad, couple of packets of mayo for the fish sandwich (tartar sauce?), no ketchup for the burger, two partial containers of blue cheese for the boneless buffalo wing order. Fish sandwich was pretty good of the choices we had. Salad was kind of limp and not worth the price. Kids enjoyed the chicken fingers - but not many ways to screw those up. It's the 99. You should know what you're getting yourself into. Never had a bad meal here - it's unlikely to blow you away but it never disappoints. Decent beer selection too. They usually have a few MA beers on tap - Jacks Abby, Newburyport Brewing, and Harpoon (and of course Sam Adams). Thursday is Trivia/50¢ wing night - always a good time. I've never had a problem with the food here, it's typical 99 fare. Don't go here at night if you are by yourself, sitting at the bar, and not ordering alcohol. They won't see a big tip opportunity in you, and you will be ignored. I've never had a problem during the day, but the service, or lack thereof, at night has been horrendous on multiple visits. I've had to wait 15 minutes to place an order. I've sat starting at my food after it came out of the kitchen, watching it get cold because nobody could bring it out. After the food finally comes out, most times nobody will come check on me, even for a drink refill. And I never go there on a busy night. The final straw was waiting over 20 minutes to pay my check on my most recent visit. People had come in, been seated, ordered and received their food after I finished my meal, before I was able to pay and leave. Never came back to see if we needed anything -like another drink - or asked if our food was ok - nope had to ask a food runner to get it for us -waitress was no where to be found-when she finally came back she just dropped the the check at the table -like no one was sitting there - waitied again for her to come back so we could pay the bill!!!
