I went to 99 with a few guys from my company on a trip to Marlborough. The place reminds me of an Applebees or TGI Fridays. The bar was large and the barkeep was a great guy. I ended up getting a burger and some seafood chowder. It was very good. The guys next to me got the wings and they looked delicious. I will probably order those next time I find myself back. My coworker and I went to 99 for lunch today. Our server Sam was superb - friendly, gracious, attentive. For lunch I had the fish & chips and unsweetened iced tea and my coworker had the country fried chicken, corn, mashed potato and biscuit w/ginger ale. While we waited on our food (not a long wait) we snacked on the popcorn provided. The food was good, what you'd expect at a tavern kind of restaurant. Service as I mentioned was outstanding. In the past six months, the food here has not been very good. I'm not sure what is going on with the chefs in this location, but they clearly are being very lazy preparing dishes. I understand that this is not a Michelin restaurant, but I have gotten chicken here several times and every time that I've gotten it it has been completely dried out or either burnt. Definitely not what I'm paying for. They have some pretty good appetizers, but that's honestly about it for me. Sandwiches and burgers are relatively OK but pretty mediocre for the most part certainly not worth all the money you're spending. One thing that is very annoying is ordering an entrée salad and having the vegetables be dry or on the verge of going bad and you're paying practically $20 for this. I will be giving this place a break for sometime and hopefully when I return, they will care about what they're doing and make an effort when they're cooking the food and knowing when to get rid of produce instead of selling it to somebody. read more

This place rocks! It should be at least 3 1//2 or 4 stars. 5 for spirit! My new friendly neighborhood bar/restaurant. I may have found my happy spot. Soooo happy they are open till 10, and on some nights like last night (Friday) 11pm. Great service from Danielle. I enjoyed the music playing here. So much community support flair, and an awesome Fathers Day Grill Package you can purchase tickets to win. I got the Salmon with broccoli, and carrots. It was all real good. It was really easy to pick out what I wanted because they have an entire GF section on the menu with steak, burgers, chicken, salad so there's no questions. New to the area and asked around for a dinner recommendation. 110 Grill was the place to go, so I went. 30 minute wait...I'll pass. I also asked about the 99 and heard it was just like Applebees. I gave it a chance anyway and was pleasantly surprised. Great service, pretty good food and great prices. Had the steak tips and chicken fingers, came with fries. Chicken fingers were run of the mill, fries were good, steak tips were great! Beer was good and dessert was fantastic (see pic). Food was hot and beer was cold. Server was very attentive. Don't come for the lobster rolls! They used to be pretty good... An actual favorite but not anymore. I splurged for my kid and I tonight. The Lobster CRUMBLES were hard, cold and completely dried out! It looked like someone ate half our fries, and half of one of our Mediterranean Bean Salad. Anyway picture tells the story! Just had the worst experience at the 99 Restaurant in Marlboro, MA. After seating what would be a party of 9 at a table clearly suited for 6, we had to ask if we could move to a larger table. I'm unclear why they sat us there since, when I made the reservation, they'd asked if there were any children in the party and I'd told them no - so we clearly needed room for 9 adults. 20 minutes after the last member of our party arrived, I went to find our server and she came over to take our order. I should have known something wasn't right when 5 minutes later our server came back to ask us about sides that she hadn't asked us about when we ordered. i don't fault her for any of this as she was new. 5 minutes after that the manager came out and told us that he couldn't swap fries on one of the orders for anything else (a biscuit). Nor could we swap the fries and cole slaw on that order for something else. We'd have to pay an upcharge for the change. We agreed to pay the upcharge, but asked them to hold the fries and cole slaw as they wouldn't be needed. 35 minutes later our meals came. A total of 45 MINUTES after we ordered. Four of our meals were chicken wrap sandwiches, mind you, so not a lot of time was spent on them. The "country fried chicken" we got was a 3/4" thick, breaded chicken patty, which was mostly breading, and was likely meant to be served as part of chicken parmigiana. One dish should have come with mashed potatoes, but did not - we had to request them. A broccoli side was pretty much raw. When we finished eating and received the check, which included a second charge for a beverage that, according to the menu, should have had a free refill. We decided it wasn't worth it to fight the extra charge, but we were quite concerned about how long it had taken to receive our meals (45 minutes, when 4 of the 9 dishes were chicken wrap sandwiches). So I asked to speak with the manager. I asked, since the meal had taken so long to prepare, if we could have a discount. He indicated that the restaurant was crowded (there were two tables occupied in our side of the restaurant - including ours - this is crowded?), and that they tracked the time in the kitchen and the meal had not taken longer to prepare than it should have. No discount, no real explanation for the tardiness. We're never going back, and I suggest you don't go either. read more

I have finally come to terms with the fact that I HATE the 99... I mean its convenient that they have Grilled Cheese so my kid will eat, but other than that - the food has gone down hil... I mean No More Cheese with the crackers.. WHAT?! and they werent even wheat thins anymore... and then the food was just mediocre, I got a Med-Rare Steak and it was RAW inside... I was just soo aggravated by this point I just ate around it & left... I just probably wont be back anytime soon & need to cross the 99 off my lists!!! This place had great decor with superb service and delicious drinks and food. I had the mango mai tai which was tasty yet had a nice alcoholic kick to it. They also give you popcorn to nibble on as you wait which I was glad to eat. Pam served me and was so delightful joking with me. It was sweet and meant a lot since I come from NY and they are rude there. I ordered the sirloin and scallops with mashed potatoes. I absolutely love surf and turf and this made me delighted to have such a good portion for a decent price. I definitely will be back the next time I'm in Massachusetts. I have been here about four times this month. First time, the food was delicious and service went well as the servers were super sweet and doing what they should be doing. As the time went and the more time I went, it kept going downhill. Slow service, host are lost or not paying attention, and management does not even act professional they just are clueless when you ask a question and are rude. I wanted to give them one more chance but got a curbside order just because it was Halloween. Said my food would be ready at 7:54 pm. We get there at 7:59 and are waiting for 10mins for our food to come out. At 8:09 I went inside to see if my order was ready and it was just sitting there and no one brought it out. Got back to my hotel and it's now cold and they got my boyfriend's order wrong. He ordered the honey BBQ wrap but only wants the chicken with the honey BBQ sauce that's it. They didn't even put the sauce in the wrap. I got the twin catch with rice and the rice was super hard I couldn't even eat it, as it was inedible. Also, the rice tasted like the Chicken Maruchan ramen from the grocery stories. The shrimp was tiny and fish tasted overcooked. It is a disaster and the food was cold regardless. The boneless buffalo fingers are pretty good and the potato skins are okay... The entrees are like what you'd get at Fridays, only not quite as good. The 99 in Marlborough (and Hudson, for that matter) has never really let me down. They always come through with their food quality, efficiency, and overall customer satisfaction. Their wide menu options allows you to change up what you get each time you come, or stick with your old "stand by" if you can't decide (For me, it's the Honey BBQ Chicken Wrap w/ Gold Fever Sauce). I like Ninety Nine overall - in most locations. I like the fresh popcorn, the usually good service, hamburgers, salads, drinks. I think they don't do sandwiches very well, but again, it's a chain thing. They are so much better than Applebees overall. So this location is fine. Fresh popcorn, good service. But I wanted to try the lobster roll- silly? Probably. I opted for the colossal lobster roll with a bit of mayo and celery on buttered grilled hot dog bun with fries and coleslaw. $15.99. (The other option was the hot lobster roll just sauteed in butter on a grilled hot dog bun - $17.49) The roll was large, longer than the lobster in it. The roll was buttered too heavily and tasted like the grill- a bit burnt. It had some lettuce and then the lobster. Just claws and knuckles - standard lobster roll around NE. Rarely see tail meat in these guys anymore except in a small local restaurant. There were 2 big claws and some small chunks of meat. I had to cut it up to make it fit the sandwich. It wasn't big but not super small either. The issue? NO FLAVOR in the lobster. Fries were cool and tasted like the oil needed to be changed - bad oily aftertaste. Coleslaw warm - not cold. So, lesson learned. DO NOT TRY THE LOBSTER AT ANY NINETY NINE. Stick with what they ARE good at. Fresh popcorn, burgers and usually fries. read more

I came here for drinks with some colleagues recently. This 99 or "the nines" as locals call it. This location is conveniently located on Rte. 20 just off of 495, so it is great for work meetings at lunch or after work drinks. The bar area is quite large and was easy to move around. The restaurant was also kept very clean, something I notice as a former server. The bar staff was very friendly and although the bar does not have an extensive single malt scotch list or a reserve wine list, they had all of the basics. I did not eat, so I cannot comment on the food, but the bar area is a pretty reliable spot if you are looking for a no-nonsense watering hole. read more

Sat at the bar which was quiet large and ordered a Quartino merlot (9 oz pour). For a late afternoon snack I had the small boneless wings and side of fries. Both were good for the prices. I hadn't been to a 99 in years before today, but I don't remember it being so terrible. A coworker and I came for lunch and both ordered burgers. I waited 20 minutes for my medium-well burger, and when it arrived it was completely raw in the middle and had an unpleasant taste, like the meat wasn't fresh. After 10 minutes the server finally noticed my put in a request for a new meal, and the manger came over to apologize. During the 25 minute wait for the new burger, I asked for a to-go container as my lunch hour was just about up. I took my lunch back to work and discovered the new burger was overcooked. I'm always a fan of 99 Restaurants. This one is a good size with friendly staff. We came in for a late Dinner and the place was pretty empty. We were seated and our waitress Stephanie came right away with the drinks once we ordered them. Our waitress was friendly and was knowledgeable about the food. I ordered the new parm macaroni and cheese, my daughter ordered the balsamic salmon, well done, and my son got the chicken tenders off the kids menu. One great thing about the 99 is that in New England, if the Red Sox baseball team wins a game kids eat free with the purchase of an adult entree. To be clear, one adult, one free kids meal. Two adults, two free kids meals and so on. My Mac and cheese was tasty, although I think I would have liked a little more sauce. It was a good size for a late night dinner or for lunch. I'm not sure if it would fill me if I was really hungry. My son enjoyed his chicken tenders and my daughter's salmon was cooked just the way she asked. Eating at this 99 was a good experience. Marlboro 99 has been a huge disappointment. Call ahead seating is a joke, they are not very hospitable as the sign in the waiting area focused on taking care of customers needs. They need to learn how to accommodate the people who are regulars as they have lost the knack of hospitality. Went back to this restaurant again tonight with our son and his family. We had 2 children under the age of 4 so we called ahead again to make sure we wouldn't have a long wait. I called at 4:30 to let them know we would be there at 5:00. I was told there would be no problem seating our party of 6. When we arrived we were told the wait was 15 minutes but couldn't guarantee it. They had a very large party that they neglected to tell us about. Never going back. People are not accommodating, call ahead is a joke at this location. read more

When people are hired for say a waiter or waitress position at any restaurant, one of the HIGHEST requirements should be on if they are friendly and kind or not. In accordance to a few of the staff at the 99 Restaurant on Route 20 in Marlborough, this was not on the priority list for when they hired for the restaurant initially and thereafter. Some people are just not happy. At the same time, when folks are paying for good food and good service (isn't that their slogan too?), they should receive service that isn't grumpy or unpleasant. Even though I do like to complain or compliment to an extreme, I should recognize the other side of my experience here, bottom line with the former few sentences is that people who work here should be more friendly and if they can't be, they should receive a new job in the same establishment or move on to another job. The food here was great and in general there weren't any flaws. Restaurant is well maintained, clean, and the service from the cooks is like a well-oiled machine. My party was in and out within 50 minutes, which was pretty efficient in my opinion, and besides the unfriendly personality of our server, everything else here was a benefit, hence the 4 stars. Popcorn before meals is also a good idea, not all that filling, tasty and not unhealthy. Sure beats eating roll after roll at Bertucci's and then not having any room for the meal. Overall, 3.5 stars. I will bump it up to a four since there was only one issue. At the same time, management should speak with staff about being at least somewhat friendly and SMILING! read more

Something for everyone here as it's a local chain with a large menu. Local chain meaning over 100 locations with about 60% in Massachusetts with the rest in Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Usually a large restaurant with plenty of booths and a large bar. All the waitresses I've had are very friendly and helpful. Which is needed to narrow down the menu, as it is quite extensive. I've had multiple items from their menu, usually something recommended to me by my waitress. I really like the fish tacos here. They have a ten buck menu which is cool. Decent beers and wine as well. I give this place four mostly because its literally across the street from my office but also because they have some of the most pleasant wait staff of any restaurant I've been to. The food is typical 99 food, something for everyone and nothing over the top fantastic. The waitresses are very pleasant and very attentive. The bar staff is super friendly and they actually seem to enjoy having our rowdy bunch at the end of the bar every Friday after work. So for that I give them an extra star. read more
