I had a great experience here. I split my time between the Bay Area and Los Angeles. I got a check engine light late Friday night, and had to leave to LA Sunday morning. I usually go to the dealer but they don't do Saturday work. I decided to fine A-1 a shot. I met the owner Cliff and said I need the car checked out for the trip. He said no problem. It needed a repair, and Cliff told me he could do it. It went out of his way to track down the parti needed, and had his workers stay late just to get it done. Excellent! Cliff is awesome. I have been taking 3-4 cars to him over the years and told my co-workers as well who are now taking their cars there. The nice things are not the regular repairs or maintenance which anyone basically can do. But, it happened at least twice that other mechanics where not able to fix my problem (one was an ignition problem on my 2000 Nissan Quest van) which Cliff was able to fix in a couple of days. He and his team have always been able to properly diagnose and fix my cars...Which include a 93 civic, 99 explorer and an 03 accord. I have tended to use him for 30K services and when something is wrong. His pricing is excellent , and in the cases I have competitive quotes he is much cheaper than dealers, or jiffy lube. I've been going to Cliff for close to 10 years and 5 stars is an easy decision on this one. I've recommended A-1 to a number of folks where I work and to a person everyone has nothing but great things to say about their experience with Cliff. I've had a number of different cars over the years from your run of the mill Honda Accord to the rarely heard of Laforza and he's keep them all up and running and in great shape. He's been great to work with, very friendly, extremely honest, fairly priced, he can even explain to you in fairly simply terms what the problem is and what needs to happen to fix it and I simply wouldn't go anywhere else! He even helped me out one time when my car had an issue and was stuck with a mechanic far away. They gave me an estimate that I didn't think sounded right, so gave Cliff a call, explained what happened and what the mechanic was recommending for the fix. He talked me through an alternate option so that I sounded somewhat like I knew what I was talking about - which was a pretty good feeling on it's own - and ended up saving me a couple hundred dollars. Finding a good mechanic is as delightful as finding a giant gold nugget in your sock after wading across an ice-cold stream. You know you have to cross that stream [get your car fixed], but sometimes the experience makes your day better than if you hadn't even gone there. I recently took my car in for an oil change and smog inspection. I figured with the positive reviews and popularity that there would be a wait list. Nope! "Bring it on in." Niiiice. Cliff and Minh were terrific, fun, and took good care of me. When I left, the Check Engine light came on as I was getting on the freeway. Hmmmph. Great. They broke my car. I called them and they told me to bring it back in. Turns out the problem was clearly unrelated to their earlier work: an ignition coil had gone bad. This particular car has had coils go bad before (there is a coil on each cylinder), so I knew they were probably right. Cliff called and got the needed part while I waited, and I had the car back in perfect working order in just over an hour. In fact, it runs better than when I took it in for the oil change! I hesitate to recommend them, but only because the last shop I found like A-1 (in a different state) was so popular the wait list was typically ten days or more.... My knowledge about cars mechanical system is above average and I am a reasonable DIY guy. I have been bringing my cars for repairs to Cliff for more than 8 years for real critical problems. He is very professional in diagnosing and fixing the problems which other auto shops do not even understand. You wouldn't find many people who diagnose the problem right first time. And note that right diagnosis saves a lot of money because you wouldn't be changing unnecessary parts in your car. Now the cons. Due to his fame, he is getting a lots of work and sometime management laps happens. Like he will forget to call you OR it will take longer to get your car fixed. I was in California on vacation and took my car to A-1. Cliff was very nice. I had a cable that needed to be fixed. They had to remove my dash to fix it and they did so for a very reasonable price. I was on my way in no time. Then a few days later I was loading groceries in the back of the car and the trunk wouldn't shut. I drove straight to A-1 and Cliff fixed it in five minutes at no charge. My son is there now with the same car. Fuel pump needed replacing. Cliff even recommended a towing company he works with and my son was able to put the tow bill (great discount on the tow, but the way) and the repair bill on the tab at A-1 and pay for both with his debit card. We were pleased with the price and the service. I am so glad I saved Cliff's card and put it in the car. Don't know what we would have done ...it means a lot to have a mechanic you can trust. read more

ok, i usually wouldnt review a mechanic shops, but these guys deserve a shout out. i live down the street from this shop, so of course, it is the place i go when i have a car problem. every time i go, they welcome me with smiles, and they even remember my name and what previous work ive had done on the car. they always explain things to me thoroughly and give me tips to avoid future issues. unlike the typical mechanic who just looks at it and goes to town and then bills you. they almost always have my car done that same day, within hours even. And believe it or not, they have always been reasonably priced. the guy takes some fee off the labor because i was a loyal client (my car was junk). my only, ONLY compaint is that they dont offer towing services. that would make things way easier, but hey, when your good your good! read more

My 240Z died and I had no idea why. By chance, stranded just up the street from A-1. I walked in off the street asking for immediate service. Appeared to be battery so Minh gave me a battery jump to help me avoid the cost of a tow. Unfortunately it didn't work. Had the car towed to A-1 to tell me what was wrong. They took the car in immediately. They found the problem quickly. Turned out my engine was flooding with gasoline rather than it being an electrical problem. They drained the engine and replaced the oil and filter. Because its a highly modified car, Minh suggested taking back to the speed shop I work with. They believe the fuel regulator had a blown diaphragm. The priority now is mechanical. I still have an issue with electrical and will be back to A-1 to get it addressed. The minute you talk with Minh you get the sense they are honest. They do what is required and only that. Very trustworthy. I'll be back. read more
