Took both my mower and snow blower and asked them to get it running. Both times they gave me an estimate for repairing everything that was worn ata price higher than buying something new?? , but never tried to get either started. Waster of my time and money!! read more

Great service- I took my Chainsaw in because it was locked up and I could not pull it to start. The lady took it in back and came out within 3min. It was taken apart and she showed me the piston stuck and lines where it rubbed in the cylinder. I asked if I owed her anything and she said no. although it was not worth getting a new engine for it she was very helpful and informed me how it happened. they are very knowledgeable and I will return. read more

Took the Greenworks high pressure washer in for repair. Called them earlier and was told owner is in and will be able to look at it and tells us what needs to be done. Not the case. Then told that the person on second shift will take a look at it. So called the next day. Told it was being looked at. Called in the afternoon as it was looked at by a tech in the morning.....then told it was the wrong tech and it needed to be an electrical tech that looked at it, which was what I was told when dropping the unit off. Was also told a week....now it is 1.5 weeks. Let's see how this goes...just poor communication by the reception desk or something else like the other bad reviews. Unfortunately I have a $45 deposit. That should have been my sign. Next update will be my next interaction....just hoping it is better. 1 week gone by - When I dropped it off it was a week. Then it was 1.5 weeks. Today.....no one has looked at it, and it will be at least two weeks. It feels like a hostage situation. Can't even get a word in other than what they want to tell you. I am going to pick up the system and take it elsewhere. Wonder what nightmare awaits me at pick up. The next call is to Greenworks. After all Greenworks list this place as an Authorized Workshop. Most likely will not by Greenworks again either. The next episode to come. read more

Ordered a carburetor for a Dolmar backpack blower. I was verbally told it was in stock and requested expedited shipping. Took 45 minutes to process as simple order and my info was already in the system b/c I purchased from them before. Two weeks later, still no carb. T Called several times and got run-around saying was never in stock and needed to be drop-shipped from a warehouse elsewhere. I went online and ordered it myself and it came 2 days later. Disputed charge and moved on. read more

My experience is the same as Cassandra's review, but I didn't fall for the scam completely. I picked up my unit without the repair and waiting over 6 weeks. I'm moving on to find a good shop-sorry A1. Best (or worst part about it!) , the unit I picked up from them that they said needed new carb....it started right up without no problem! Guess it's not the carb after all! A1 used to be a good shop, but apparently previous owners moved on and and kids took over. It's a shame. read more

Do NOT use A-1 Repairs. Briefly: Used A-1 years ago for a warranty repair. A-1 denied the warranty repair stating was our fault and requested over $300 for new part. We denied the repair, picked up the unit, and turns out-unit did start up and was running after they cleaned it. Years have passed now and same unit needed a repair. Giving them another chance-we took it back. AGAIN, they denied the 3rd party extended warranty but said they could do it for more than $300. Home Depot Warranty advised the claim WAS approved-contrary to what A1 advised us. Bottom line: A1 tried to scam us into paying the full repair. After numerous calls, the unit gets mysteriously fixed UNDER the warranty. Now, A1 is holding our unit hostage and will not return it us because A1 claims that the unit is scheduled to be repaired by a competitor shop (After Home Depot authorized a new shop to look at it because of the their poor service). Turns out HD screwed up the claim paperwork (out of our control) and corrected the claim so we are now able to pick it up. A1 could have explained that but instead told us that they don't know when they'll call us back with a resolution this new matter. Jim is dishonest and has no customer service skills. He is rude and has no appreciation for being a small businessman. Do not use them. Time frame that this has been going on: 1 month. It's a shame, because we were long time time customers of A1 (over 10+ years). No longer a customer. See my previous post of other complaint. As always, I will provide a fair and honest review which is more than A1 can say. read more

This place is very slow and have no communication. I dropped of my tractor in early March and it's almost May and still no lawn mower. I called and they had no information for me.They said they are backed up and it takes two to three weeks, my response was you have had six weeks for mine. Again they had nothing they could tell me. We were back to A1 and they made it right. Jim was very reasonable and did not charge us for parts or labor to fix a past issue that we were having. He explained the problem and worked with the manufacturer to fix our tractor. read more

We got an estimate from them and other companies for our tractor, they came in with the best price and best lead time. They gave us a lead time of 2 weeks when other companies were giving us 1 month lead times. Their lead time and their price estimate were low balled. When they called and told us our tractor was ready....a month later....they were higher than the original estimate. Not only was it higher, but now they ended up being one of the highest out of all the estimates we received, and they took a month when they told us it would be 2 weeks. Somehow all their bad reviews (stating about the same thing) are getting hidden, and the single 4 star review from 2008 is sitting at the very top. Read through all the reviews that Yelp indicates as "6 other reviews that are not currently recommended" before using this company. read more

I purchased a 'rebuilt' lawn mower from A-1 Repairs on April 27th ($90 + tax). Though the purchase experience was good, while I was waiting I heard a number of customers getting the lecture that 'old' gas is the biggest reason for small engine repair (something I agree with). So, I just happen to have to get more gas on the way home (5 gals @ the local BP). I get home, fill the 'new' lawn mower full of gas & mow my lawn (it worked great). The next week, I filled it again & mowed most of my lawn, before the lawn mower quit (with 1/4 tank left). I take it back to determine what went wrong on May 9th. When I go to pick it up, they say the problem was 'old' gas. -- Sorry, I'm not buying that (same gas worked fine in my weed whip & chainsaw for the entire month) gas does not go bad in 2 weeks! They wanted $55 for the repair of 'bad gas', I told them they could keep their lawn mower! I'll never go there again. read more

Every year my senior citizen father asks my husband to change the oil on his mower (even though it doesn't need it) but he does it and always complains about how it doesn't need it and the oil is fine. Last year my husband said he was too busy and my father called A1 who charged him $50 to pick up his mower only TWO blocks away and it cost him $147.50 to do the oil change. My husband just changed the oil on my father's mower this year and said it was black and actually needed changing this year, which means A1 didn't do ANYTHING last year! They probably looked at the oil and determined it didn't need changing (like my husband said every year my father insisted he do it) yet charged my father for the change without doing the job! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY SERVICE UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET RIPPED OFF FOR LACK OF SERVICE!! I've seen many one star ratings for this company but seriously, just because you suck do you have to take advantage of senior citizens?!? Couldn't have you at least done the job you were paid for even though it didn't need it?? read more

I rarely post poor reviews as I'm not into damaging small businesses. Sometimes people just have a bad day and I get that. I'll either not post anything or give them another chance. This went beyond that. Two months for a chain saw tune up. Two months of phone calls, talking to several people, total lack of follow up communication and frustration. It all started when I told them I had a job to do and either needed it back in a week or would just bring it in a week later. I explained that the saw ran fine and just had an oil leak. They said they'd have it no problem. When I called to pick it up they didn't have the parts and the saw was apart. $63 to rent a similar tool, gone. Don't even ask to get an estimate, "we don't have time to call everyone with repair estimates for everything we do" is the response I got. Unfortunately that was after I dropped $40 as a deposit against repairs. Ended up needing a few small oil line replacements, filter and spark plug, no big deal. It was more expensive than I planned but honestly it was the total lack of communication that will insure I never return. A thoroughly unprofessional business. read more

As a customer who has had items serviced there in the past with stellar service, I had a horrible experience the last time and won't return. Not sure if it's a changing of hands but I've always dealt with an older gentleman in the past. In addition to the slow repair, returning the mower within an hour of picking up, waiting an additional 2 weeks for correcting the repair - I experienced immense lack of concern, appreciation and empathy. The repair: replace the carburetor. A month after drop off, they called that it was ready. I was there nearly 45 minutes while they struggled to get it started. We were shown the filter, told it must've flooded. Noticed when putting it in the truck, my mulched (which won't start without it) is missing. I haven't bagged my grass in 5 yrs. Had NO reason to remove it. I checked when I got home, giving them the benefit of the doubt. Not there. We were just trying to start it before I brought it in. Where did it go? We take the mower home, put the bag on, struggle getting it started. Run it 2 strips, stop to put gas in and can't get it started again. GAS IS POURING OUT OF THE CARBURETOR. Back to shop immediately. Things happen. I get it. Try again and please try to find the mulching piece. Was told they'd be in touch and get on it right away. 2 weeks later, it's ready. When I'm talking to the man, I ask again about the mulching piece. Not found. I ask if there's anything (ok, maybe I'm emotional and begging - the mower is sentimental; it's my father's who has passed) they can do to replace the piece (I KNOW IT WAS ON IT!). His typical careless, lack of compassion, millenial response: "I dunno what ta tell ya." I will add, he was willing to reimburse me for a rental to come back and pick up the mower. I'd much rather have what was lost. Seems like a nobrainer to me and even said so. Didn't budge. Well, I'll be sure to share my experience in my community FB places, tell all of the people I've raved about you to and anyone else who asks where they should go. I have a small business myself AND work retail that requires good customer service. Saying THAT to a customer is never gonna go well. read more

Awful company, will miss quote you and then rip you off and then refuse to accept payment by anything but cash because they are worried you might dispute it and win since they didn't do anything to my machine that I should've paid for. Took my riding mower in for a spring tune up, quoted one price, they put me on the waiting list even though I had an appointment, got that straightened out and they said that they also had to do a full estimate even though that was Never mentioned before, the "estimate" they gave me was almost triple what I was told on the phone, had to drive my truck and trailer to a near by ATM because they wouldn't accept any card - debit or credit because I was pissed and they thought I might dispute it, would NEVER recommend this place to anyone! read more

Spent $450 to repair a $600 lawn mower then it didn't work spend another $117. Poor workmanship and terrible customer service.

We took a generator there to be repaired and they said they were unfamiliar with the model and that they couldnt service it for two weeks. After two months of US following up with THEM on the status and diagnosis, they were unable to fix the problem and charged us anyway. We are very dissapointed with the lack of communication and poor customer service. read more

my lawn mower has been in the shop with a part on back order going on ! month, never once have they called me i have to call them, funny thing is the owner don't care, please read all reviews on Google god i wish i would have. they have no class no respect for other peoples time. This mower was to be done in a week like i said its going on a month now i'm not sure i even needed the part. when i said well by the time you get done it will be snowing. he is such a punk he hung up on me and told me to take it to sears. bought a gas blower from Menard's and a month later it died. it had a TWO YEAR warranty. they told me to take it to A-1 for replacement. I took it there and they took two days to look at it. then they said it had a bad motor and it would cost me $120.00 to fix it. I reminded them it had a TWO YEAR warranty. they said it didn't matter and it was $40.00 because they looked at it ( service charge). so I said f it and left the blower there. so, NEVER buy anything that has a motor or any large item from Menard's because the warranty doesn't mean squat. and dont have A-1 look at anything that has a warranty because they will tell you tough crap and charge you for a service charge on something that has a WARRANTY !! read more

Total rip offs, they not only over charged me for work not authorized or needed but also called me a liar, replaced parts that did not need replacing or at least they said they replaced them, giving me the so called old parts, that they probably had laying around their shop, than to add insult to injury told me they could not call me for authorization because the phone i was talking to them on is disconnected whenever they try to call me! beware of these crooks, there is a reason this place has changed owners over the years! but these new owners are the most devious, when i contacted the Better Business Bureau on them they at least offered to return one of the three hours labor charges they charged me, and still have not responded to the better business bureau. if you plan on buying or getting anything repaired by A-1 you best be prepared to spend big bucks on nonsense and some old parts they find around the shop! i will never let these crooks touch anything i own ever again! i expect they will be out of business soon!! read more

On April 27th, 2013, my lawn tractor was picked up for repair. I was told it would be two weeks for the repair. After the two weeks and not hearing a word from A-1, I called for a status update. First they could not locate my tractor or my work order. Then they were not nice in telling me it wasn't even started. They were busy and that is how it is was the response I received. On Wednesday the 15th of May, I received a phone call. The woman on the other end started the conversation with, "I have bad news". What is that? Anyway, she gave me the estimate for the repair of my tractor. After giving her the okay for the repair, she told me it would be ready the following day. On Saturday the 18th of May, I called A-1 again for a status update. I was told they were busy and would call me back in ten minutes to schedule a drop off date and time. The price I was quoted this time was half of what was quoted originally. Needless to say, I never received that phone call. They close at noon on Saturday so I had to wait until Monday to call. On Monday morning, May 20th, I called and spoke to Jim. I tried to explain the rude customer service or lack of any service I had received. His response was, "If you give me the claim number I can take care of this for you". He was not at all interested in what I was telling him about my horrible experience I was having. He couldn't make heads or tails out of the paperwork. He said he would call me back. He did call me back and said the tractor was not ready. I should have had a full tune up and only had an express tune up. I told him that was fine. He said he would have Rick call me with the total. Jim also told me it would be a little cheaper because it had the express tune up and not the full tune up. When Rick called, the total had not changed. When I questioned the total, he said that is what Jim told him. When I received the receipt, they did not give me the $20 off for the coupon. When I called, I was asked. "Do you want the $20 back?" What kind of question is that...of course I want my $20 dollars. I really felt like I should have received more than that back. The service was less than standard . I did mention to Rick that the owner, Jim, was NOT interested in hearing what I had to say and that I would be reviewing on line. Knowing the owner was no better than his staff, I will be looking for a different establishment for repairing my lawn tractor. read more
