I booked the place on-line and they asked about using their insurance or my home owners insurance. I selected to use our home owners insurance. To my surprise, when I arrived at the facility to complete the signup - everything was old fashioned using paper forms, was not impressed with this, what a waste. Also, the insurance question came up I discovered to my big surprise and was not happy that they need a copy of your home owners insurance policy to verify what is covered and if you don't have it they add on an additional insurance fee of $12/month - this was not good. I did not go with A-1 Self Storage - called PublicStorage and got a equivalent unit at a lower cost and all was completed electronically - no wasted paper!!! Don't get stuck with there bate and switch tactics todo with the bogus Insurance scam!!! read more

Stored my furniture here for a year and had no problems. Staff is professional and always answered my questions, even during the Pandemic (COVID-19). Property was always clean, which is important for me. The only issue I had, which is very minor, the elevators don't hold long as you're loading/unloading. I'm very impressed with this storage facility. I've used the place for approximately 2 months. My husband and I are glad that we've moved out of our old space and over to this place. It's clean. It's new. The staff is friendly. I can easily find a cart to move in/move out items in the room. The restrooms are clean and have all the supplies. I also feel relatively safe when I visit this facility, a major plus. A big kudos to James at A-1 for helping us make the decision to use this place over our old storage facility. My husband and I were using another facility that didn't feel safe, due to people camping within the corridors, effectively blocking access with their belongings for others to go into their storage spaces. It got old. I did not feel safe with some stranger watching me while I went through my storage room. That's my privacy issue. Compound that with negative customer service. Add to the equation, the place seemed to only have one handtruck or cart, which wasn't easy to find. It was time to find another place. Moving to a new place gave us the incentive to consolidate our storage rooms to save costs. Another major incentive was my sense of personal security at the old vs. new facility. I had never rented a storage unit before and didn't know what to expect. In my mind I had thought it would be dirty, have crabby and uncaring employees, and would be kind of sleazy and unsavory, but I was so wrong. I went there to check it out and John explained to me how it worked and showed me around. I was surprised at how clean and organized it was. The next day I went to rent a place and James set me up. He was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. So far so good. I've only been there a few weeks. Parking has never been an issue and there are always plenty of carts available. Their prices were the best in the area and also their monthly insurance was only $10/month for $2,500 of coverage, vs. $40/month at the place just a few blocks down the road. (Although their coverage was higher.) Since I had my own renters insurance it turns out that I didn't need to purchase insurance. read more

I recently received a rate increase of near 100% where I was storing my belongings, so I decided to shop units in the nearby area to find a better deal. I found A-1 - Santa Ana, which was conveniently located near downtown San Jose. James & Bailey assisted me on-site; Bailey was able to assess my storage needs pointing out ways I could reduce my costs by getting me appropriately sized to a unit, recommended their customer protection plan as a economical alternative to using my own insurance, and offered to put my rental on automatic payment to insure I avoided late fees. James & Bailey walked me through the rental agreement and both expertly answered any questions that popped-up. In addition, the facility was immaculately clean with beautiful elevators. You can really tell that James, the facility manager, has a keen eye for detail and cares about the facility. Before moving in A1-Self Storage , I had been visited many other companies but this one, the very one on Santa Ana Ave is at another level. They set a higher standard for self-storage. Clean, welcoming, secured, and professional. Every time I come to visit my unit, I see someone swiping the driveway, hallway, and parking lot. Came to Oakland rd location cause I saw online they had the 5x5 . But they didn't have any available so they sent me to this location. Rebecca sent us to this location cause they have storage size I was looking for. Andrea was welcoming and showed us a couple that were available. The place was very clean and welcoming they also have alarm on each storage unit . Unlike the one I was using at public storage they didn't have that and also they closed to early it wasn't convenient for me . This site hours are from 6am to 10 pm so much time for me to get things after work hours. I don't have to rush even on the weekend if I need anything I have more time to get thisif I need . I've used other storage facilities before and they're all about setting us up quickly but not really wanting to help us. For instance I was at two public storage locations before I came here and both gave me a really hard time when I was moving in and moving out. Both places had bad hours and really bad staff. James was more than willing to help us with everything we needed. He was also very approachable and quick to notify us if anything came up. He also noticed a hazard with my vehicle and notified me about it before there was a situation. I did tons of research on companies all over the Bay Area (as far out as Livermore), trying to find the lowest rates. Little did I know that this location closest to my last apt. had the best rates hands down! The interior of the building is spotless and well-lit, and I always felt very safe. Our stuff was very secure, and we had no problems with anything getting damaged. The management does a fantastic job of keeping everything looking extremely clean, much better than any other storage units I've seen. Very clean. I wouldn't eat off the ground clean but clean nonetheless. The first two times that I went there, James was out sweeping so that tells you something. Carts galore and they're not falling apart. The 6-10:00 availability gives you a lot of time to drop your stuff off or pick them up. Very well lighted at night (in the facility at least). Two things that made picking this storage facility easy were the price (lower than most) and the staff. Never have I felt more at ease during the reservation process than with Marisol, James, and John. Awesome job guys! Keep it UP! P.S.
