We use to bring my Sweetheart mother in law here for one of her favorite Terriyaki Salmon dishes and decided today to give lunch a try after being away for several years. Once inside I noticed that the lighting was darker and the interior minimized. We were invited to sit anywhere so we chose a front window booth. The table only had one service setting so we had to borrow another from a neighboring table. We looked over the menus and made our choices from the Lunch Specials. I went with the Chicken Red Curry. My wife ordered a Shrimp dish. We noticed that the only person taking orders and serving would disappear into the kitchen for extended amounts of time. (The only one working?) Our food was finally brought out of the kitchen. My wife's Shrimp dish was absent of Shrimp, but had chicken instead so she sent it back. Meanwhile I ate my Luke warm red curry vegetables and rice with a few drabs of chicken meat. So sad to see the dramatic decline in what once was an A-1 Thai restaurant. read more

We'd been here years ago. Long enough in the past not to show a Yelp review or a check in. We were in the area and stopped by for lunch. The restaurant has seen better days, it's a bit grim inside with everything showing some wear. We were directed to a booth and given lunch menus. There was one guy taking orders and serving. There was a large party of folks who worked near by seated at a long table and a couple other booths occupied when we came. It took long enough for him to take our order that we were debating whether or not to leave. Chicken vegetable soup comes with the entrees. We were each given hot soup. The vegetables were mainly cabbage and there were a couple pieces of chicken in it. The light broth, however, was good with little bits of fried garlic in it. My husband's chicken red curry was served on a flat plate. It came with white rice. He said it would have been better if it was a hotter temperature. I'd ordered cashew shrimp, but was delivered chicken. I'd corrected him when ordering, so I sent it back. The shrimp were good -- a half a dozen nice sized pieces. The dish also had a lot of cashews. I've been going to A-1 Thai for well over 20 years because their food is consistently good. It's my go to for Thai. This time I went with my cousin who usually eats Thai at a place down south that is a bit fancy. A-1 is not fancy, ambiance is basic but comfortable. There's booths or tables. There's a salad served before your meal. It used to be included but now is extra. It looks like a simple little salad but the combination of ingredients with their dressing and used to be potato chips but now is potato sticks, it's fresh, crispy and I love it. We split an order of spring rolls and both ordered Penang Chicken with spice level 2. Spice levels are 1, not so spicy, up to 5 that I'd probably tear up by being in the same room with. Their spring rolls are served fresh from the fryer with a spicy jelly sauce. Always hot and yummy. The Penang is served with your choice of veg or protein. If you want veg with your protein you will need to ask. Otherwise it's vegetable free, plenty of chicken in delicious sauce with plenty of white rice on the side. The service is always friendly. Your food does not come out as soon as you order because they prepare it when you order. They're not slow at all but food has to cook. If you don't want to dine in you can order take out. Sunday night I bought two orders of soy sauce noodles TO-GO and as my husband is eating his we see a roach. I contacted the restaurant and the guy that picked up gave me the run around and said his manager would call me, manager called and I asked for a refund on my order not just for my husbands but for my noodles too since we got grossed out ($35) and the manager told me he can only refund me 1 order of noodles since "they are not cooked together" even though they are the same noodles. It's now Thursday and no refund has been issued for either the full order or the 1 order of noodles with the roach. read more

I use to frequent this place years ago but haven't since COVID and I thought that they closed. I used to say that this is the best Thai place ever, very authentic and by far the most flavorful. Came back today and they did not disappoint. This is Thailand thai food, not Americanized thai food. If you want the real deal, come here. Place had seen better days but food is far better than the fancy Thai places anywhere. I can't recommend anything because I love everything they have. I will give this place 10 stars if I can. This was my go to restaurant for Thai dinner, for 2 decades. I was never disappointed till tonight. Started with a pot of hot tea and spring rolls. So far so good. Then ordered 2 stars Chicken Padthai. That's when I found out the eliminated the side salad with trade mark lays potato chips. So, ordered a side salad and it had potato shoe strings in place of chips. It was definitely not the same. The Padthai arrived, but the rice served from a big shiny pot was not. Yep, they have eliminated the best Thai rice I've ever had. So, a little taken back, wondering what else and the heat spice was zero, not 2 stars. I didn't complain to the server, but asked if the ownership had changed and that was confirmed. Prices increased too. $15 for the padthai, $7 for 4 spring rolls, $2 for small salad (if ordered with dinner) and $7 for pot of hot tea. Even the flavor of the Padthai had changed. No peanut flavor and lots of salt. Service was as normal. Not bad but not great either. I don't recommend A1 and I'll not be back again. This was so disappointing read more

We love Thai food and are working our way through every Thai restaurant in the area so we recently tried A-1 Thai for the first time. It's easy to miss from the road but stepping inside is a cozy family restaurant with unique decor. We went a little early in a Friday night and it was very quiet. Or server was very polite & no intrusive. My partner ordered curry and ate every bite! We ordered vegie tempura as an appetizer and it was really good with a delicious dipping sauce. This place was okay. Decided to give it a try on the way from PBI. Our takeout order was ready in less than 20 minutes and was still hot when we arrived home. They included plenty of rice. The wonton soup was the highlight! The broth was clear and flavorful, although the wonton wrappers were a little mushy. The pad thai was tasty too, but we asked for peanuts on the side and they were missing from the order. Pork with snow peas was bland and the pork was chewy. No more sizzling chicken... Can still get the food, but it doesn't come out on the sizzling skillet, and has a bunch of new and different veggies on the plate. staff is the same, but they are bound by the new owner's changes. We went here with high expectations after seeing reviews and all expectations were met and exceeded. I got the tofu and vegetable red curry which came with white rice. The curry was the perfect amount of spice and the tofu was so made perfectly. My friends got the tofu pad Thai and the shrimp panang curry. Both were very happy with their food! We all used the spicy sauce with our meals. It was delicious, not your average Sriracha or chili oil. This is definitely the best Thai food we've had in West Palm Beach! read more

I'm glad I did... 1) Place was a little dark but friendly.... you could call it intimate or cozy. 2) Food was delicious. Order the Thai-Fry rice. It was good. 3) My Tom Jon Goon was very good and hit the spot... it was spicy enough.... 4) Thai sweet Ice Tea was great! 5) Server was friendly and attentive. So my friend recommended this place because of their fried rice. Their shrimp fried rice was AMAZING. Like I'm blown away. We had the krab rangoon, shrimp blanket & shrimp fried rice and my fiancé had wings. There's a salad that comes with it with some peanut dressing. It was different but good! I've been coming here for over 35 years, dang, how many eating establishments can you say that about, especially today! Personal favorites, the house fried rice, so moist and flavorful, and it has delicious squid, chicken, beef, pork in it. Sizzling chicken, with its red pepper based spicy sauce, perfectly seasoned. Bean thread noodles with shrimp and vegetables (they don't skimp on the shrimps), and the Panang curry, velvety, luscious, coconut based sauce, the best I've ever had. Tips: Do not be deterred by the little hole of a plaza that it's in or the decor and watch out, that #2 spicy still packs a punch! Let me start by saying, you can't judge a book by it's cover. This place used to be my families favorite dinner spot (almost 20 years ago). We sadly moved away shortly after, and I hadn't returned since then, even after I moved back a few years ago. I pass this place on my way to work in the morning, and finally convinced my husband to give it a try. From the outside, the place looks extremely rundown and uninviting. I can honestly say the exterior (and interior) have remain unchanged over the last 20 years. For me, this was a little nostalgic. The service was what you would expect from a small family run restaurant. Our orders were taken immediately, and our food came out extremely quick. We started with spring rolls (which were AWESOME), got an order of chicken panang, and an order of pork fried rice. Everything was as good as I remember and my husband noted that this was the best thai food he's had yet. Their fried rice is out of this world fantastic, and my husband who can usually take it or leave it finished half the large portion on his own, as well as his entire panang. Their house salad is the BOMB. The peanut dressing is on point, and the addition of hard boiled egg and potato chips bring it to a whole different level. Next time we want awesome Thai food, we will definitely be coming here! read more

Usually just get takeout but they recently opened their dining room back up despite the Covid situation. Food is always good here, my go to for Thai food. We went to day and I guess the AC was broken, it was pretty warm inside. They had fans going, but it wasn't enough. Our waiter paid more attention to take out orders rather than sit in customers, I finished my Thai tea and he never came over to see if I wanted another tea or ask how or food was. So if you would like to try A1 Thai I suggest you try take out. I had the spicy fried rice with chicken and it was plentiful and excellent, that's the only reason I gave them 3 stars. The Chicken Panang had excellent flavor (ordered medium spicy). Sticky rice was not oily. Service was good. It's sometimes hard to miss, even after coming here for years I'll still occasionally pass it. I love their starting salad, I even get the peanut sauce for it to go! The pad Thai is my boyfriend's favorite & the chicken yellow curry is mine. We love spicy, & always order 5star*, they make sure it's very spicy! (Though our digestive system always pays back afterwards ) Other restaurants when we ask for 5*, they hold back & it's more of a 2/3*. My family and I have been going to this restaurant since I was probably a baby. The one in royal palm closed due to the owner passing away which broke our hearts when we heard the news. His wife tried to carry on his work but it was too much for her after the tragedy they experienced. We visit about once a month and almost every single birthday. The food is AMAZING, their soups and salads are the cherry on top and everything is super flavorful and fresh and the worth what you pay and then some. The guys that operate this location are like family and have watched my family grow up and have kids of our own. No Thai place compares to A1 Thai. And I do not normally enjoy spring Rolls but they are a must every time we go. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy hole in the wall gems with friendly people. read more

Another real deal restaurant, A-1 Thai is our go-to spot when we are anywhere near Military in West Palm Beach. I have been to Thailand numerous times and was immediately struck by the ambiance and decorations. It feels Thai in every way. Most Thai restaurants in the South Florida area cater to the American palate and tone down the spice, regardless of how you order. Not here. Just give your server a number from 1-10 on the hot scale and it will be accurately accomplished. Every dish we tried for lunch was delicious, and perfectly prepared. If you are Vegan, there are many, many choices. Portions are large, service is excellent and prompt. Parking is easy and safe. A- 1 Thai is delish!!!! read more
