Visiting in L.A. My Dodge Truck trans went out while waiting at a Left turn light. I wanted to get towed back to my driveway--3 blocks away. I called A&B Express Towing. They said 30-40 minutes. I said, OK. After waiting ten minutes I called another company they also said 30-40 minutes, and they further said the tow charge would be $80 for going 3 blocks--I said no, I'd stick with A&B Express Towing. After getting the run around from another tow company I decided to try the Yelp's Request Quote feature as I needed to get my unique car towed to the shop for repairs. I had a response from Ben (the owner) within a few minutes and it was the best quote I received. I said I have a half hour window to get my car picked up and Ben said it wouldn't be a problem. Motorcycle towed 20 miles for $265. That was a $105 hook-up fee plus $8 X 20 (roughly twice the going rate compared to others in L.A.). The tow truck sent was just a flatbed, it did not have the ramp for pulling up motorcycles. It it were a hog that needed towing and not a bike that weighs 300 lbs, I don't see how getting it onto the bed could have been managed. read more

This is my first yelp review. I was motivated to write it based on my experience today with this business. Today my car failed to start on my lunch break. I was not sure what the issue was. I found this service on Google and called. Ben worked with me to find a good time, given my work schedule. He came right to the parking lot and jump started my car. I'm writing this review because Ben went far over and above what was required. Instead of taking his $75 and leaving, he stuck around after the car was started. We checked to see if it would start again; it wouldn't. So he jumped the car a second time. Then he examined the car more closely to see what the issue might be. He determined that there might be a bad connection near the battery. He got his tools out and set about fixing it. He eventually identified and fixed the problem, saving me possibly hundreds of dollars that a repair shop might have charged for the same work. I offered to pay more for all the extra work he did, but Ben refused. Professionals like Ben are difficult to locate these days, and people like him deserve your business. read more

Don't call them late. A ball joint gave out on my truck a little after 11pm last night 100 feet from my garage. These people were the first I called and they quoted me $95 which I thought was high, so I told him I wanted to get another quote and I might call him back. A couple minutes later with another towing company who I was having trouble understanding due to a lack of English skills, and Express called me back saying "if you want a tow, tell me now otherwise I'll send my driver home". Desperate and thinking about my truck in the middle if the road, I agreed. The driver showed up in the quoted amount of time with a "friend", both in plain clothes and wearing flip-flops, looking like they'd just found a tow truck and were just parading around pretending to be professional service men. The driver's ability to handle the situation was equally professional. He spent several minutes trying to figure out how to lift the front end of a vehicle where one of the wheels was barely hanging on and he couldn't use his trusty tow bar. Eventually, per my suggestion, he wrapped a chain around the trouble wheel and we proceeded down the street to my house. When we'd stopped and my truck wasn't loose yet, he started talking about payment and I said "yeah, your boss said it would be $95." to which he responded "Yes, plus labor", which I thought was odd. Then he said he needed cash which was also strange since I confirmed during the initial call that they would accept credit card. read more

I needed two of my classic vehicles moved from my old house in West Hills to my new one in Canoga Park, one of which is under restoration so it has no front suspension. Ben arrived on schedule, was very friendly and was very careful in getting the cars transported, causing no damage and putting them exactly where I needed them. The rates were reasonable for the job performed (be advised there are mileage and labor charges in addition to the flat rate charge), but the peace of mind that my cars were not being manhandled was more than worth it.
