Ordered a paperback book on-line based on the photo/picture of the cover and publication date. I was looking specifically for that particular book for my collection. What I received was not what I ordered! When I called the 2 guys I spoke with, they indicated that they were out of the specific book shown on-line, so they substituted a newer publication date with a totally different cover. These guys are obviously clueless about their own inventory and even more inept when it comes to showing what actual items are for sale on their site. I hope they know the difference between iron pyrite and gold. After spending $20.00 on shipping for a $15.00 book, one would think that A & B would have the professionalism to email me or call to tell me that they were out of what I ordered and ask if it was ok to substitute. My club members at Detectors Unlimited agree with me 100%. Detectors Unlimited and The Desert Gold Diggers will be SHOPPING ELSE WHERE! It does not cost $20.00 to ship a darn book from Mesa to Tucson! I'm new to the area and just getting back into metal detecting and rock hounding- maybe some panning, too and have been looking for a store that caters to my interests and this business is it. I was greeted and helped by a gentleman who was very helpful. I went in hoping they had books and I was not disappointed. They have books on metal detecting, prospecting, rock hounding and maps and magazines. A&B prospecting is the best and the ONLY place to get your prospecting supplies. They have been around forever and is a family run business for many many years. I like the stories of companies so I ask. No matter where you live in the valley this is the spot to go. Ryan the owner is the nicest guy and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to prospecting and mining for gold or other precious metals. He not only had the knowledge (I got a ton of education from him by asking questions) but he also corrected me in what and why I want certain items to have a successful prospecting journey. I came in with some preconceived thoughts and he shared with me why I should go a different route for what I wanted to do. This store has pretty much anything and everything you need from a beginner level to expert level prospector. They have books, maps, magazines, pumps, dredges, HUGE selection of metal detectors, crazy things I knew nothing about, and a ton more. I've been in here a few times before and they have recently did some remodeling, the place looks bright and fantastic. I'm not sure who else in the state has better service, the bigger selection, but I'm pretty sure A&B has it all. They even have setups to test the metal detectors to make sure you get the right one. Went into the store ready to buy a high banker but wasn't sure how they worked or what was the better equipt. and asked the older gentleman there if he could show me how they work he was very rude and told me I would have to buy it and take it out and figure it out on my own as he doesn't demonstrate anything. I have probably spent around 2500 dollars in this store and I can promise you I won't spend another cent let alone step foot in there nor will my friends that I have told what happened. I decided that I wanted to try gold panning as a hobby. I'm not looking to make it rich just to have fun. I was concerned about feeling dumb but the staff was friendly and very helpful. After talking with the owner, they decided to give me a pretty decent (I think fair) trade-in on the metal detector I purchased from them toward the purchase of a new detector. The gentleman that I dealt with originally at the shop was polite when I went back and gave me a very sincere apology and handshake once we finalized our transaction. They've won back my business, but it took me another 4 hours of drive time and time to get in contact with the owner. I am satisfied after all is said and done, though. read more

lots of equipment both new and used. Pans, matting, highbankers, drywashers, detectors, picks, pumps,hoses, literature, maps, retorts and lots of odds and ends. Nice guy behind the counter with some good, friendly knowledge. Store was of good size and clean. Comfortable with my wife, 2 year old child and myself browsing for some time before our purchase with no stress whatsoever. Wish they were open sundays, its the only day I have open for the trek as we are on the opposite side of the valley. read more

My partner was rough housing with our dog out in the backyard when one of the dogs claws caught his wedding band and it went flying off. We searched for it but were having very little luck. After borrowing a metal detector from my Father and having difficultly trying to set it up I googled "metal detector rental" and found a few companies. Of the ones called A & B was the only one that answered the phone (the other ones went to voice mail) and we got their information on costs, etc. We gave my Father's detector one last chance and still were having issues so we drove out to East Mesa and the gentleman that assisted us was very nice and told us we wouldn't believe how often he's heard similar stories. All in all we rented one of their detectors, they walked us through the adjustments and instructed us on how to use it etc. We got home and within 20 minutes we found the wedding ring!
