Walking into this bakery was so overwhelming! I have severe peanut, tree nut, and gluten allergies and have never been in a place where I could actually get whatever I want. I think it is so great that they are both gluten and nut free because it is so rare to find GF baked goods without nuts. I kept looking at things and thinking out of habit,"that probably has nut flour or nuts in it..." but of course nothing did! It was also fairly affordable as far as GF food goes. I have never seen GF biscotti (I rarely even see nut free), so I was very surprised by the whole shelf of so many different kinds. I got blueberry topped cheesecake and it is quite possibly the best piece of cheesecake I've ever had. I was also very pleased to see how many different varieties of pasta they had, especially the gnocchi, which is something I have really missed for the past few years. I love the goodies at A&J, I will say that I think their service could be kicked up a notch though. Overall I shall return. They send monthly email coupons, are one of (if not the only) nut free and gluten free bakeries I know of in RI which is great for anyone with kids in day care or schools that are nut free. Stopped by today after being told this place has it all for my diet. They sure do! And I may have bought it all! Say what you want about whole foods, they dont have a lot of the stuff that A&Js does and not as good of a quality. Good luck finding gnocchi, tons of freshly made pastries, ravioli, bread crumbs, pot pies, choc covered pretzels, crutons, chicken soup (with hot samples) pie crusts and on and on at whole foods. I dont know what the deal is with the negative reviews! I found the owner to be very helpful. I guess labels could be better but he was happy to make sure I knew what the hell I was getting and what I was there for. Prices are super high but compared to WF? the same I'd say. Awesome gluten free bakery! The prepared meals make dinner easy. There are a lot of options; from pasta and pastries to cakes and crackers, the selection is amazing. They also have gluten free pizza strips and the prepared eggplant Parmesan is delicious. I highly recommend A&J Bakery! read more

Huge selection, great food! I can't have gluten and this was my first ever experience at an entirely gluten free bakery, and I left happy! I am not from RI and have never heard of zeppoles so I came to A and J to try them. Walking in was over whelming but in a really good way. What a selection! I bought Zeppoles, a bag of assorted biscotti and Rugalagh. The Rugalagh are cherry and chocolate and are really good, the biscotti are assorted and it's a very good selection. The zeppoles which are similar to a cream puff or an eclair were delicious! All three rival non gluten free bakery. The prices are higher than a normal bakery but are completely reasonable for Gluten free. They have frozen pizza, cheaper than whole foods, frozen mozzarella sticks, frozen soup, all kinds of bakery items, and all priced very reasonable for gluten free. So glad I found this place!! read more

I continue to get delicious and fabulous breads and pastries from A & J. I can't believe that everyone here reviewing it on Yelp does not agree with me lol. I have never ever had a bite of food from there that wasn't magnificent - frequently better than some regular bakery products. Their pizza is great too - just had my first one a couple of weeks ago. These people really know how to cook and bake. Just wanted to say, they are STILL great - (since my last review!) The one place I know I can go to and get safe pastries for kids. I am the stor manager at a children's retailer and we have events where we provide cookies for kids. The rule is no nuts! You wouldn't believe how difficult that is to find. But ajs offers a great variety and they are quite tasty too. I recently went there and had a mini cake made for my daughter for her birthday because she has a milk intolerance. They did such a fantastic job with he Elmo cake I want to go back for every occasion. read more

I take my grandson (dairy products allergy) every week. It is the only bakery that does allergy free baking. He LOVES it and I also, just to the smile on his face when he chooses the items that he would like. Every item that we have bought is excellent, always fresh and very tasty. I purchased a gingerbread kit online so my son could finally create one this year. Unfortunately the pieces were not sealed in the box so they arrived broken. When I contacted the company for a replacement, they wanted me to ship the box back (at my cost) before they would send a new one. A & J Bakery expects the customer to pay for their mistake and it is a gamble on how the new house would arrive. I think it's wonderful that they have an option for those suffering with allergies, but BEWARE, the service is horrible! Also, the recipe they give to make your own icing includes egg. Look elsewhere and buyer beware. We've been loyal customers for many years, but my annual order of 2 pricey Gingerbread house kits and pizzelles arrived in bad shape and the bakery has refused to answer my messages. Since December, I've called once and emailed 4 times with no response. I'm so disappointed. My kids looked forward to those gingerbread kits every year, but at over $40 each, they sure should be baked hard. Mine were so soft they stuck together and were too soft to assemble properly. found out that they repackage candy corn and jelly beans that are purchased from the dollar store, and tell customers that it is allergen friendly! the staff was not very friendly either, when I asked questions they responded in a very rude demeaner as if I should know these things. will not be going back, which is unfortunate because of my allergies. read more

Their baked goods taste dry. I can bake a better gluten free, dairy free, soy free cake using King Arthur Gluten Free Cake Mix. Their decorating skills are lacking. Their customer service is terrible. We bought two of their gingerbread houses and when we opened the package the gingerbread house parts were all stuck together like they packaged them while they were still warm. When we carefully took them apart the pieces broke so we couldn't even make the over priced gingerbread house. We called and asked if we could exchange and the person on the phone apologized that it happened and then told us to bring them in for an exchange. When we got there (30 min drive for us) they told us they would not exchange them or give us our money back. If they had said that over the phone we would not have wasted our time driving there. They were very rude. Their pizza shells have too many spices; that it's overpowering. Overall it's just not worth the drive, price, taste, and service. Twist Bakery in Millis has much better baked goods and worth the extra drive. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! If I could give 0 stars I would. I had the worst experience here. I bought gluten free sandwich rolls here last Thursday. They were unopened for 6 days. I went to have a sandwich and EVERY SINGLE ROLL HAD MOLD. I called them and they said that their products have to be consumed or frozen within 2 days, (which they did not specify to the customers). The staff are incompetent. The owner reached out and offered a gift card, but I would never purchase anything from there again. I traveled 2 hours to go to this bakery, and am utterly disappointed. They do not stand by their products, go elsewhere for your allergy free food. read more

Okay - I figured enough time has passed and things would change. I was wrong again! I went there on Wednesday to get a few things. By Saturday the rolls were uneatable due to mold. It had not even been 3 days and the rolls had to be thrown away. Save your money and go somewhere that puts dates their products. read more

I wonder if they taste some of their products. I have had cookies with obviously too much baking soda/powder. One zappole had egg shells in the filling and the cakes are VERY heavy and dense. Their products are not that good, but if you have a tree nut allergy and do not want to bake your own go for it, that's the ONLY reason i bother. Today was my first visit to A & J Bakery. I was impressed with all of the gluten free options: cake, biscotti, pizzellis, mozzarella sticks, ravioli, etc. I bought the chocolate chip muffins and enjoyed them! I also noticed a lot of soy and dairy free products. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 was because of the customer service. The woman who served me did not greet me at all even though she opened the door for me. In fact, she seemed a little annoyed. She stayed in the back the whole time and I had to ask her to ring me up. The only time she spoke was to point out that there was an $8 credit card minimum. Would have liked a more personal experience especially since it was my first time there. read more

It is important to treat your customers respectfully and if they have questions about items, patience and taking the time to answer them is part of your business. When a client has severe allergies or has a loved one with allergies, questions are necessary to create a safe environment for a person who has a life/death reaction to certain foods. I was a witness to the owner treating customers disrespectfully on many occasions. The last time I was there, I saw the owner treating a customer horribly, unfortunately like I said this was not the first time but the owner Joe was definitely repeatedly attacking her and screaming at her. Due to the last of respect for customers I will not be back. The customer just stood there in horror while she was repeatedly yelled at by the owner and left in tears. This is not a way to run a reputable business especially when dealing with a clientele with life-threatening allergies. It is a shame there are not more bakery's in the surrounding area that have a selection of allergen free items. Thus, making this bakery the only one and giving no no other place to go and some people will have to put up with this kind of behavior.... read more
