I have been doing dip in powder for 6 years and honestly this was the worst one I have ever had. I tried to go to A & J nails for the first time and got my nails done with Vi. My nails started cracking 2 HOURS LATER. the pictures below are only 5 days old. You can tell by the length that they are very recent. I NEVER had a dip in powder cracking like this. The salon is close to my house and I decided to try hoping I would like it and become a customer but apparently not. Their products are the worst and nails are breaking already. read more

Amazing feet and nails the ladies were veryyyy nice and I it came because the ones I usually go to were booked up! They took me on the spot and I said I had to be done by 10:30 they got me out on time! I love this place I will be back! Oy 52 bucks for no chip and super pedi! The worst place to get the nails done the owner talk with attitude and no respect. I booked appointment for me and my daughter explain the services we need to be done for us when we get there she was pushing for other services and make us wait longer. A&J is under new management and had a 20% off special going on. It's down the street from house and has convenient hours. The place is repainted and refurbish from the previous owners. It has a nice lilac and white decor and very bright. I came in for a dip manicure and spa pedicure. This was my first time trying the dip manicure. They have over 2 dozen dip colors to choose from. All their nail polishes are new and nicely displaced throughout the walls. From regular to no-chip. I sat in the spa chair with a bottled water already placed at my seat. They have plastic liners in the basin which is nice. I had two nail techs. One that did my pedicure and one that did my dip nails. The whole dip nail process was quick and painless. There's no uv lights involved which is nice and the polish dries fast. So far it's been 2.5 weeks and my nails still look great. They also give you a frequent visit card for $5 off your next service. My no chip manicure turned out horrific! I took a picture right when I left because I was in shock the nail tech thought the job she did was even somewhat okay. I truly thought my eyes were playing tricks on me so I had to take a picture to look back and see how bad it was. I went in to get my no chip manicure with a nail tech who was nice but she literally did my manicure as if she was in a race to finish for the fastest time. Before even applying the nail polish I noticed the shape of my nails looked uneven and not even filed after she had filed them. She then proceeded to put the nail polish on and after she was done there was nail polish all over the skin surrounding my nails, the top portion of my nails were uneven with nail polish, the sides of my nails were missing polish, and there was so much clear coat where it shouldn't be that the sides of my nails were attached the to the skin by clear coat! I mentioned the amount of nail polish all over my skin so the nail tech used a cuticle cutter to cut the extra nail polish off which of course removed more skin and made it red and sore. I was so unhappy with the way my nails looked I asked her if she could fix my nails when she decided to buff them out and apply more nail polish everywhere. I was so upset when she was done that I left but called back to ask for a refund and the owner said she could not give me back a refund but they would fix it for me again. Having no other choice because I'm not just giving money away for free I went back so that the manager could take the whole thing off and redo them again. Fortunately, they turned out better but i would still have been better off going somewhere else. It was a lot of wasted time and money there. read more

I went to Lee Nails in Rogers Park for many years and only started coming to A&J several months ago because it's closer to home. I'm about ready to go back to Lee's because I miss the friendliness and really tired of the stank attitudes and bossy tones at A&J, esp. Cathy. My last trip at A&J, the toenail polish clearly didn't match the fingernails. Anyone sitting afar could see this. Yet, they claimed it was because of my dark skin why the toenail polish appeared more gold than silver like the nailpolish. Laughable! I didn't even feel like arguing and went ahead with the mix-match colors because I knew I wasn't coming back, and also because it's not sandal season. Both colors were pretty, but on principle alone they're supposed to be professionals and should know how to match colors. And they seem to only have pedicure slippers for people with short feet. I wear size 9 shoes, and their slippers are never long enough. The heel of my feet touches the filthy floor and I get yelled at by Cathy/David for walking on my tippy toes trying to avoid this. Also, I have ticklish feet. The techs at Lee Nails were always patient with me instead of grabbing, yanking and forcing me to keep still. I was frantically looking for a salon on the Sunday afternoon on Labor Day weekend to get my nails done. My regular manicure was very nicely done by the nail technician named Van. She took her time and really did a nice clean on my cuticles. It's very pretty and very clean with a new design and layout of salon. Very poor service!! The staff were not accommodating or friendly at all and there was no talking the whole time I was there. My pedicure only lasted about 10 minutes. Their payment system was not working at all and it took about 15 minutes of waiting after giving the owner my card to charge it. She was working on another customer and while charging me and it was very unprofessional. After waiting for a long time, I offered to Zelle and after I sent the payment I asked her if she had received and she had to call someone to let me know if it went through or not. There was no confirmation of payment or receipt and the whole situation was very unprofessional especially when running a business. They are very unprofessional people and coming here was a huge waste of time. Definitely do not recommend going here unless you are looking for rude customer service and bad quality. read more

I came to get my acrylics off-- guy didn't soak the nails but ripped them off with a plastic fake nail. I was so uncomfortable and it was so painful and every time I would flinch he would pull my hand back. Mani afterwards was awful and it took about 7 minutes in total. Worst service i've ever had. I truly enjoyed my visit here and will definitely be visiting again, maybe even tomorrow night! I wanted to get a mani/pedi and originally went to one salon that had rave reviews. Although the people were really nice, they were booked and didn't have enough people to care for the walk ins so I told them I would try them again at another time. I then made some calls to see if I could find anyone who could help me and Jay answered the phone and said I could come in. When I arrived, she knew who I was and immediately got to work. She was friendly but didn't talk too much (I'm one of those who doesn't enjoy talking too much when I'm at the salon cause the silence of it all relaxes me.) Her approach was perfect for me though because she wasn't totally silent but she wasn't too talkative either. Then when it came to my nails, wow! Jay was careful with the utensils, making sure it didn't hurt me and being sure to get my cuticles without cutting me. She was patient and efficient. I literally LOVED it! I couldn't believe how quick she was but at the same time, she really took her time. It was amazing. Then my nails, they look beautiful! She covered my nails without covering my skin and I'm really glad she treated me like she actually cared about my nails looking great. We didn't have time to do my pedicure since it was close to closing but she did such a great job that I plan to return. It's so hard to find a safe, clean, efficient and kind nail salon so I'm so glad that I found this place. :) (I found them through Yelp). Laura, another worker, was there and she also was so nice. When I left the store, it was dark/night time. I was standing near my car looking for my keys and before Laura got into her car, she checked on me and asked if I was ok. How sweet! Made a same day appointment and came here 45 mins before closing on a Friday night. I asked to have my no chip mani (from another place) removed (for $5) and a regular mani. She went through the no chip removal process correctly but didn't wait long enough, so she spent more time scraping the rest off my nails before polishing them. I didn't notice until after I left that she didn't scrape off all the gel and had just painted over them! Some nails were still half covered in old gel, so the uneven nail polish is pretty obvious! The atmosphere is weird too. There was only 1 other customer there on a Friday evening and 4 nail techs, and it was eerily quiet... no TVs, no music, no gurgling fountain, no talking... Then because she saw that my husband came to pick me up, she rushed me off the drying table and laughed, "You're not driving anyway!" and shooed me out exactly at 7:30 PM, and the rest of the employees followed immediately behind me. Good news is that they close later than most nail salons in the area, but the bad news is that they compromise on quality. All the ladies were nice, though, and the salon is very clean. Went here for a mani(no chip) pedi when the place I normally go to was busy and didn't have an opening for forty five minutes, normally I would have waited, but I had event in Napervile later in the day and still had errands to do so I was on a tight schedule and didn't really have time. Found this place on yelp and it was only a few minutes away so I decided to give it a try. Service was friendly, I got in right away and my nails looked great! It was just a bit more expensive than the place I normally go to and the service was the same so don't know if I'd switch over from my regular place permanently but this would definitely be a very strong second choice when I'm unable to get in to my place or even a first choice now and then! When I first came in the lady told me that I had to make an appointment, so I called and made on for 5:00 pm. When I arrived there, all of the staff were busy and I had to wait for 30 minutes. Which was fine for me because I had heard that this place had a good price and I saw a lot of good reviews. This was my first time actually getting acrylics and I didn't know a lot about it. After a while when the lady had done my nails, I had been having some problems because I didn't know what to say to her (for example what shape), I realized that I told her that I wanted the wrong shape so she corrected it. I apologized because I don't really k ow that well english and it was my fault. The big thing to me was that she made me pay $53 for acrylics with a little decor. $53???!! What?? I came to this place because it said $28 and up, but you should have at least a number for us customers to be sure what we're going to pay. She didn't even tell me why it was $53, which she did with the lady before me that got a manicure and pedicure/foot massage. Really disappointed and I didn't want to NOT pay her. The work of all the ladies is very meticulous and I'm always happy with the results. The regular manis last me a whole week and they are only $12!
