Great little bakery in Granville Island. Went in a rainy Saturday and was greeted by the employees with smiles. Ordered a mini pizza and a ham and cheese croissant. Both were good. They have a big selection of bread, pastries and a sandwich counter with several options. If you are in the Granville Island area, go visit these guys. read more

Giving it a five star based on only a few items. They had one of the best savory scones I've ever had (sage, walnut, had a spicy kick too). We ordered a couple of other things as well, most notably the love bird bread. A multi-seeded rustic loaf, which had a really nice sour twang. Everything is organic and really good quality. I noticed this bakery at Granville island, and their stuff looked pretty good. - Gougere: huge, nice crust outside, still light and slightly doughy inside - very good - Beet walnut goat cheese scone: interesting mix of ingredients for a scone - creative - Potato and green onion: slightly sweet and slightly savory, well balanced The scones were $3.50 each, and the large gougere was $4 Canadian, which was pretty reasonable for the sizes we got. I am not a fan of sandwiches, but I wouldn't hesitate to slam down another $10 bill to get me another one of these. So happy with the customer service here! I LOVE sourdough bread and this is one of the very few places that sells a whole wheat version (Soulmate). I was disappointed because the only place that sells it regularly near Coquitlam is Donald's Market in Poco. I called A Bread Affairs number and they had let me know that they were going to be at the Port Moody Farmers Market. I had asked them if they wouldn't mind slicing the Soulmate bread and keeping it aside for me at the market. They definitely did so with no hesitation. Taking over La Baguettes old location, Bread Affair try's to bring a fresh take on artisan bread. The store is impeccably clean but lacks the atmosphere of a true artisan baker. After trying there bread from whole foods, I expected to walk in to wonderful aromas of fresh baked bread.. Sadly that was not the case. The bread itself is wonderful and I regular buy The three's company. It is a sourdough bread topped with three cheeses and roasted garlic, paired with a good wine and caesar salad it makes the perfect accompaniment for an appetizer! Where the store is lacking is there staff. The staff is really friendly but also seem very spacey. I went in and ordered two sandwiches ( which were average at best ), and politely asked a staff member to cut it in half, she responded by saying she "rather not"! Me and my friend where in shock! Hopefully they have trained there staff better by now, but I will update my review accordingly if that happens! All in all if your looking for artisan bread with a twist check out a Bread Affair. Went here today and service was horrible. Wanted to order 4 sandwiches. Asked what the "Italian veggies" were in the sandwich and she didn't know. Then said zucchini and onions. Yummmm! Wrong! It was peppers and eggplant. They had a sandwich with brie and avocado etc. Asked for a croissant with avocado and lettuce. Instead of charging for a croissant add avocado she charged us for the glamourous $11 sandwich and just took all the expensive things off it. Not a big deal in most restaurants but you sell croissants separately. And you sell a the "add-ons too!" Then after spending about $50 on sandwiches...I ask for three cups of water. "Sorry I have to charge you full price drinks". What? Dont bother. Better bakeries elsewhere. Get better help. read more

I first tried A Bread Affair bread at Whole Foods and loved the taste and texture of their baguette. When I finally made it to their store on Granville Island, I was amazed to see their full selection. Not only do they have tons of loaves (sourdough, rye, etc), but they've also got tons of baked goods (cookies, scones, etc). I've sampled quite a few things from there and I'm never disappointed, which is dangerous for my waistline! All of their breads have these funny names like Cheesy, Missionary, and Pillow Talk. My favourite sinful one is Three's Company which is studded with roasted garlic cloves and three different kinda of cheese. A loaf doesn't last more than a day with me! As for their baked goods, all of their scones are tasty, the peanut butter cookie is one of the best I've had, and the croissants are buttery and flakey (as they should be). No matter what you get from A Bread Affair, I doubt you'll be disappointed. read more

These are some of the best pastries I've ever had. And that's comparing them to pastry shops in Paris, New York, LA and many other places. We tried 4 or 5 different scones, croissants, and cookies and all were really unusually delicious. We even arrived a bit before they opened and they were nice enough to let us in early grab a few things. Didn't get a chance to try any breads but if the pastries are any indication, they are probably great also. Great place, a definite must for any of our future stops in BC. read more

Heard about this place in the Granville Free Market so my wife wanted to try it. There were about 6 people already in line and the line went reasonably fast. My wife had the Italian vegetarian sandwich and I had the turkey cranberry. Neither of us were favorably impressed as the sandwiches were very dry. Fortunately we had purchased the Italian sodas as we needed to drink a lot while eating the sandwiches. Maybe we were there on a bad day given the Yelp 4 star rating? I discovered this company at the farmers market at Nat Bailey stadium. Prices are reasonable for the bread enthusiast. The 'naked' $4 (plain baguette) is the best i've had. Its not like the regular ones you get at Safeway. Their bread has a fluffy, savoury texture. I went to their Granville Island shop specifically and got the 'pillow talk' (ciabatta) $6 and also tried the bread pudding pastry $4. The Bread pudding was really sweet, nothing spectacular (pricey compared to other bakeries) but i wanted to try a pastry. Beautiful presentations, but it is a hit or miss on their small bites. For instance their spicy cinnamon roll is not always spicy, which is better than when is not. Their cherry scone be eu delicious but one cherry does not rank as a cherry scone in my book. Their savory scone has a delicious favor but it is too doughy and dry. read more

The chocolate chunk cookie was chewy and sweet. The bread however is dry, as in not moist-- as if it were slightly stale. They have many free samples and all were dry. We had a sandwich which had a yummy filling of lovely ham and a soft cheese. It would have been great -- except the bread was so dry. A Bread Affair is an amazing spot to get some fresh bread (as the name suggests). The sandwiches for a lunch grab and go are so extremly yummy I still dream about their simplistic elegance. Mmmmm. The ingredients are all fresh. I had a half a sandwich (avocado and brie) and it was enough to keep me full. The only down side is that a half a sandwich with taxes is around $7.
