I come to get my hair done with Barry each time I come to New York. This is the third time now and I'm STILL walking away happier than last time. Barry has got the magic touch and vision! Came in to get my balayage touched up, hair cut and layered, and Barry suggested adding lighter parts to frame my face this time around. KILLER MOVE honestly, my eyes bugged out when I saw myself. WHO IS SHE??? SHE IS ME. I loved it!! Barry's pricing is also incredibly fair and I'd recommend him to anyone in the city! Or even if you're not in the city!!! I fly in from San Francisco and make an appointment each time I come because I'm so happy with the work and experience I've had at each previous time. Highly recommend!!!

I had Katicita cut & lighten my hair and I 10/10 highly recommend and will see again! She was so thoughtful to listen to my hair needs and past coloring challenges and did an AMAZING JOB in touching up my roots with the perfect blonde color You can tell she really cares for her clients. From her beautiful coloring, to her friendly nature - I really enjoyed this appointment and felt like I was being pampered the whole time. If you've had bad coloring experiences like me, I highly recommend working with a pro like Katicita! She exceeded my expectations and gave me a stunning summer blonde color that I adore!

Had a beautiful experience under the care of Cody! As always he executed my vision even if I had none! Lol I put my trust into him and let him do as he pleases and he never disappoints. From start to end he kept me informed of every step and process and educated me on my hair which is unheard of! True Hair Scientist

    Haircut and Gloss by Jamie

Just got a haircut and gloss from Jamie and I love it!! Jamie is super friendly and helpful when answering questions about my hair. She helped me find the swatch I wanted for my gloss and walked me through on how to take care of my hair. I've been looking for a new stylist and she's the one!! Love their shampooing chairs and she gave a great head massage. Will def come back!

Face framing and amazing haircut by Jamie!

Just moved here from California, and I was super nervous to find a good stylist. But let me just say, finding Jamie was a blessing! Jamie was extremely professional and sweet! She took time in the beginning to figure out what I wanted and explained the steps to me along the way. I got face framing and a haircut. The face framing was immaculate and the hair cut was the BEST I've ever gotten. Jamie is THE person to go to from a dye job to a perfect haircut!

Jamie is my hairstylist and I cannot say enough amazing things about this woman. Jamie is everything. First of all, I am definitely a perfectionist and after losing a lot of hair due to covid, I have severe anxiety about color treating and brushing my hair because I don't want to lose anymore strands! However, because I get grays, this means I have t get my hair dyed every 3 weeks. On my first appointment, I told Jamie my anxiety about having a hair brush ripped through my hair. Jamie understood my concerns completely, and I have never had to mention that fear to her since. She has always been so gentle when brushing and treating my hair and the color always turns our perfection. Beyond how skilled and talented Jamie is with hair, she is just an amazing human being. Since the minute I became her client, I also became her friend. We talk about life - she genuinely always cares about what I'm going through on a personal level. She even has made an effort to support my business outside of the salon and is always up to date on what I'm working on. She recently even offered to watch my dog while I was out of town. This is normally not an offer I would ever take someone up on, but Jamie insisted. She knew my birthday was coming up and she genuinely wanted to help me out. Who the hell does that? What hairstylist is this good of a person and genuinely cares this much about their clients? Jamie. Jamie is just such an incredible human being. The love and good vibes she brings out into the world on a daily basis is such a gift. I can honestly say having this person in my life has been a blessing. I just adore her and would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a fabulous hair stylist in the city.

I had my hair cut and colored by Jamie recently and she is truly is a hair wizard. She transformed my dull and extremely unhealthy hair to the most beautiful color I've ever had. Besides being an excellent stylist, she was also just super cool. I would highly recommend Jamie for balayage/highlights/lowlights or really any color or style! Everyone there was extremely welcoming and down to earth which was honestly a breath of fresh air compared to a few pretentious salons I've been to in the city. I would also like to note how clean the salon was and how safe I felt there with their COVID precautions (temperature checks when you walk in, all the stylists wearing masks, all guests wearing masks, COVID barbicide certifications). Overall thoughts: fabulous cut and color, clean salon, laid back atmosphere, and a lovely group of talented stylists

    Blonde Balayage by Andrew
    Amanda F.

If you're looking for blonde/balayage Andrew is the best! I found Andrew through a friend (because I LOVE her hair) a few years ago and could not be happier that I did! I'm completely in love with my hair every time I leave. He's a true perfectionist and transformed my over-dyed and dry hair to a natural, healthy blonde that looks amazing as it grows out (done 7 weeks ago in pic!!). I've been adding Olaplex and now have barely any breakage and my hair finally started to grow again! I followed Andrew over from a previous salon and have to say A GRAND UNION is my absolute fav one I've been to in the city. Super clean, trendy, cozy, and everyone is so friendly. Also - their hair washing beds are unbeatable. My last appointment was 6/30, a few weeks after salons re-opened due to COVID, and I felt extremely safe and comfortable. Everyone was wearing masks, temperature checks upon entry, and an overall super clean salon.

BEST HAIR AND SALON EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!!!! I scheduled an appointment on their website. I requested for Katicita after looking at her Instagram and saw all these beautiful balayages. I came on time and was seated right away! They check your temperature and give you hand sanitizer when you walk in. Everyone was wearing masks so I felt very safe. I showed Katicita a picture of what I wanted and she gladly talked me through everything she was going to do. She was so friendly and so kind! She took her time and reassured me I was in good hands (as this was my first salon experience in NYC). The salon is very clean and comfortable! It doesn't smell like harsh chemicals like most salons do. The music is also so good! My hair is the best hair I've ever had in my life! It couldn't have turned out better! Jamie is also super kind and styled my hair as well! I feel like a million bucks! I can't recommend A Grand Union more! If you want amazing salon service and perfect hair, you have to go here!!!!! This will always be my go to salon from now on!

IBE Extension wearers.... Cody Stock is THE best in New York City for sew-in extensions. I have had IBE hair extensions for years ...and I have never had someone do them as amazing as Cody!! (I've tried literally every place in New York City.) Cody is meticulous, detailed, and 10000% client focused-- he is truly the only hair stylist (artist!!) I've ever been to that genuinely cares about every detail when doing my hair extensions. My extensions are comfortable and will last 8-10 weeks between move ups because they are done so well. If you are in nyc (or anywhere) go to Cody for your hair extensions!

This was my first haircut with Jamie! I loved it so much
    Jasmin G.

I've been to A Grand Union twice already! I really love how clean and chic the place is. This is also my second time coming to see Jamie. She's listed as a junior artist but her technique and knowledge about what she is doing is very professional. I first went in for a big hair chopping moment. I loved her services and energy so much that I decided to book again to have my highlights touched up. We spent the whole day together. Not only did she do an amazing job but she always took me thru the process where I understand what she was doing. Thank you Jamie & Grand Union! I'll be back (:

After experiencing horrible breakage in the past due to a "stylist" not caring for my hair at all, I decided to take a break and not do any more damage to my hair. After growing my virgin hair for about 2 years, I finally came across this salon and saw Jamie's name in many positive reviews so I decided to get my hair done by her. I booked a consultation with her and told her what I wanted and my past experience. She talked me through everything; every process every single step so I know what she'll be doing to my hair. At the end she showed me how much my total would be. I booked an appointment with her for June 1st 11am. Fast forward, June 1st I got a double process, olaplex treatment & gloss done by the lovely woman. Jamie is such a beautiful, passionate, enthusiastic & kind person We were talking laughing the whole entire time, ordered food ate together and everything. She also talked me through everything and told me what exactly she'll be doing to my hair for every step. I am in loveee with my hair, my hair still feels very soft after all the bleaching. It felt so relaxing to know that I was in good hands and that she actually cares about my hair. Jamie is definitely my permanent hair stylist from now on

Partial balayage & cut by Jamie!
    Alison Y.

I found Jamie on Salon Apprentice because I was tired of paying $400+ for a mediocre balayage and I'm SO happy I found her. The price for a partial balayage, gloss, and haircut is significantly lower than many of the salons I researched around the city. The quality of work on my hair is apparent and it was exactly what I wanted. Jamie was such a pleasure to work with - she asked questions and made sure she understood what I wanted. She was so fun to talk to for the 4-5 hrs I was sitting at the salon and she really made an effort to get to know me, which I appreciated so much! Thank you, Jamie for a flawless experience! I definitely will be returning :)

I paid $480 for my appointment and left with hair that looked patchy and not like what we had discussed. While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

Updating my review: I used to come here because the haircuts were strong, but over time the…read moreexperience deteriorated significantly. Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. Updating this with a pic and additional NYC HAIR SALON SEO terms so future customers are warned since the salon has decided to block me after no satisfactory resolution. The pic at the top right was me pre-hair f*** up. Only come to this salon if you'd like to come home and cry.

This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. Truly disappointing as holidays are coming up and I have been wearing a hat to cover up, cannot wait for this to grow out but will take months. I'll give them an A for effort though although it looked nothing like the picture. The massage was amazing. She did a really great job. Most of my massages are pretty rough but she did a great job with light to medium pressure. I really liked the glass of champagne and the chocolate truffles. The private soak was nice but I really enjoyed the sauna. It was definitely a great experience. Came out feeling revitalized. My boyfriend really enjoyed the massage and the amenities.
