Jamie is my hairstylist and I cannot say enough amazing things about this woman. Jamie is everything. First of all, I am definitely a perfectionist and after losing a lot of hair due to covid, I have severe anxiety about color treating and brushing my hair because I don't want to lose anymore strands! A Grand Union is such an incredible salon! First, it is Japanese owned, and they carry the best of the best, Milbon. The service here is thoughtful, caring, attentive, and warm. I initially connected with junior stylist, Jamie, via email- and she was really accommodating considering my last minute request! I know nothing about hair, and Jamie made me feel really comfortable and listened to everything I wanted. She was so honest and that made me feel so at ease because there is an art to doing what you do and NOT making another person feel pressured or strong-armed. I've definitely been to salons before where they've been like yeah you just have to cut off 5 inches of this dead hair-- Jamie was like listen we can cut off what feels most comfortable for you this time, and then address the rest later so it's not a cold shock to the system. THAT'S what I love. I'm sure she wanted to cut off all the dead hair, but she just wants her clients to feel heard and be happy-- and she is just a happy, beautiful soul! My most recent visit entailed me saying "sunkissed hair"-- most stylists would have been like that is so vague and gotten annoyed. We spent easily 6 hours together to achieve what I wanted (I couldn't describe it- it was like a devon aoki blonde-y not orange-y sun bleached vibe)-- and Jamie did a perfect job. She explained what color processes we could do, what the maintenance and cost of that would entail, etc. I feel so open with her and like I can say oh I can't afford this but this is something I can do, and she gets creative to work with me. I'm back! Last time I came here was right before quarantine started, so for 1.5 years, my hair was uncared for. I developed a lot of split ends on my ends, but my balayage color still held up (albeit still so very dry and fried)! My hair was practically at my belly button at this point and I knew I wanted to chop a good chunk of it off. So I made an appointment with Katherine again so she can fix my hair. I treated myself to the deluxe spa treatment that comes with a scalp massage and steam treatment. I highly recommend it. Lico sat me down and asked me what my concerns were and if I had any tension around my head, neck, and shoulders. I told her my eyes were tired from a lot of computer time, my neck was a bit stiff from sleeping weird, my grays were starting to show, etc. So basically, I was feeling kinda meh and needed some TLC to help me feel like the diva that I am (somewhere deep inside... ?). Blah blah. Anyways, after you tell her what your concerns are, you choose which shampoo scent you'd like as well as which essential oils for the conditioning treatment. I went with the citrus fragrance followed by ylang ylang and geranium. She then guides you to the shampoo chair which is more like a recliner on steroids. Then she gently massages your head and does all kind of magic to your scalp and hair with the fragrances you chose earlier. 90 min later you wake up with your hair super shiny, smelling really nice, and as if though you got a facelift (I'm not kidding, my cheekbones were like whoa). And then I went home and FaceTimed my sister and told her I felt super hot stuff while I picked up pizza on the way. P.S. The owner of the salon, Yuki, welcomed me in, hung up my jacket and tote bag, and asked me if I wanted a drink. BARI is the absolute BEST!! I've been going to him since last year and I have trusted him with bringing my hair from a long dark brown 'do to a shoulder length blonde. I'm Asian so you can imagine that bringing my hair from dark (with having used box dye a few months prior) to a bright blonde was going to be cumbersome. Yet he did it in one sitting. After going in a few times to have it touched up we decided to apply a darker color at the roots to give it a more natural feel when my growth shows.
