I rarely leave reviews but this experience was so wonderful that I had to do it. I did a donation cut after almost 6 years of growing out my hair and I wanted someone trustworthy and Nicolas was definitely that. He makes you feel comfortable by explaining everything at every step of the way. He even recommended an ethical place to donate the hair. Nicolas has a great eye for what looks good on you and makes sure that he listens to what you want too. He even took into account the minutiae, things I wasn't even considering like how my field of vision would be affected by the haircut because I wear glasses. Great service. As soon as you walk in you're welcomed and they take your jacket and provide you with a robe. You are offered coffee/tea/water. I had the coffee it was delicious. I went in for a dye on my roots/hair cut/ and blow out. All the products they use smell so good. Saudy did my hair and jt looks amazing. I love Red Market Salon. The best hair stylist in the world, Crystal Tushinsky, works there so I'm forever faithful to this location. My hair can be rather difficult at times and it astonishes me how Crystal does it so effortlessly. Very unhappy, not worth the money It was my first time in this salon and my hairstylist Roman did a horrible haircut. I am not sure what was he thinking but he cut himself not once but twice while he was giving me a haircut. I was a bit icky and hesitant didn't want to continue the service but felt awkward getting up and walking out. His hands were shaking periodically. The salon management should pay more attention to who they hire he is definitely not fit to work in a salon. I came to red market salon after finding out about it on Gilt City and purchasing a voucher ($68 for a haircut plus tax and tip). Up until now I've traveled back my salon in NJ because I refuse to pay NYC prices for a haircut. Especially because it's usually just a trim. I made an appointment with the owner David but ended up getting my hair cut by Romain (who may also be an owner). I cut off 10" to donate. As you can imagine I was nervous but Romain made me feel comfortable. He did an excellent job styling my hair and it came our exactly as I wanted (I showed him a few pictures). He even had someone curl my hair at the end per my request. It's hard to say whether I'll be back because a $135 haircut is not really something I can afford, but we'll see. I really wish I could give this place 5 stars, but I took off 1 star for getting burned with a curling iron (see pic). Lionel did my balayage and it is AMAZING! 5 stars for sure. I showed him some pics and he was all over it. Will definitely be going back for a winter update to my color. Simone did my cut and it is great, really lovely and exactly what I wanted but, as she was styling my hair she burned my forehead with a 400 degree curling iron. It's fair to expect that at a salon of this magnitude the stylists are NOT going to burn you. Update: Went back to Red Market as they extended me a complementary cut after what happened. Romain, who was my hairdresser, was highly professional, both in the covid sense of being health conscious but also as far as being a highly talented and passionate hair stylist. I came here for a hair cut based on yelp recommendations. My hair was in a miserable condition and needed some help desperately. Romain did a great job with my hair and was attentive to everything that I requested. It's a bit of trek for me to get here from the west side and well it was pricier than I expected at $145. Let me start by saying I was there a year ago and had my hair colored by Teela went back this time around to get a haircut with the hairstylist that was recommended, I called and made the appointment which was a disappointment with the receptionist in which she was very rude, I should of taken that as a sign not to continue with the appointment. The experience this time was horrific from the front desk gal who sat me down and had me waiting for 30 mins, to a shampoo girl that had bad odor. When I get escorted to the station Romain who was the stylist that was recommended was having a conversation with the person in which I believe is the owner was talking in french about a client that was in the salon prior to my appointment the conversation was horrible, he was bashing the client and talking about how he had slept with her and did not want her back in the salon and he continued that he wished she stop visiting the salon and how she doesn't tip. I seen when the girl was checking out and he kindly walked her to the front desk and gave her a good bye kiss and told her see you soon.... hypocrisy at its finest. This was all a French conversation while I am at the chair and I'm understanding every word they're saying and the so called business owner replied "I get all the old ugly rich ladies at least your clients are young" If I continue talking about my horrific experience I will never finish. DO NOT SPEND MONEY IN A PLACE THEY DO NOT VALUE CLIENTELE. I honesty waited for him to finish cutting my hair and left with it wet. This place is nothing to what it was a year ago, it is not a high-end salon a year ago I would of agree of being a good salon but this recent visit to the salon I would say it's more like a $20 haircut type of place. His haircut is bad he layered it horribly I have one side longer then the other, besides the fact that his hands will not stop shaking while he was cutting my hair. I honestly really feel bad for Teela she did an amazing job with my color and is very sweet but I will not be going back and will tell my co-workers that also frequent the salon my experience. If you're in need of amazing color, couldn't recommend Teela Janet more. Not only is she thorough and turns out excellent work. She actually takes the time the understands your hair and provides educational along the way - hair products, why certain colors would work for your coloring / hair texture etc. Appreciate that this salon uses Olaplex and Oribe products as well - personal favorites and great quality! She has a great balance of engaging in conversation but also letting you enjoy your time and explains the steps as she taking them. Incredible blonde balayage work - she treats it like true art. Which, let's be honest when you're spending 3+ hours at the salon you want to feel like a masterpiece on the way out. This was my third coloring appointment at the salon, second with Teela Janet. While the service overall has been consistently good enough - I only came back to the salon for her specifically. I've noticed some of the issues that other reviewers call out, when one of the owners colored my hair last time and scheduling with the customer service teams on the first two appointments. It was fine, the experience was fine - it was all good enough. Going back to Teela Janet this latest time I was able to schedule with her directly, the customer service woman was prompt and helpful upon arrival and this experience reminded me of why this was my go to color gal in NYC but candidly I'd only go back for her and again highy recommend. read more

I asked for a long French Bob that worked with my curly/wavy thick hair. he literally blunt cut my hair into what was essentially a bowl cut at my cheek. just absolutely traumatizing. o told him I do not blow dry my hair and he proceeded to bloody his awful cut and once he realized he F'd it up he passed me to an assistant and ran to another client like a coward. he spent 20 minutes with me, destroyed my hair and it cost me $185. just horrible. stay far away unless you have very very long hair and just want a trim but even then I'd say don't risk it. all of my beautiful curls are gone and after getting it fixed elsewhere I now how a long pixie. just so traumatic. . read more

In February 2018, I went to this NYC salon in Union Square for the first time as recommended by my friend. The experience was amazing and as a first time client, i was very pleased with the service provided and the attention to my hair needs. Courtney Joy matched my hair color perfectly upon meeting me. She was able to quickly determine the proper hair color to match my existing hair color as I was not looking for a radical or dramatic hair color change. Overall, my experience at the salon was very pleasant, and I will definitely return to see Courtney again in April 2018 for hair coloring and a blowout. I finally took the plunge to find a salon in NYC after years of heading home to PA to get my hair done. A friend recommended Red Market Salon and I am SO glad she did! End result? Incredible. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely. Anastasia did my highlights/lowlights, and for the first time in years I am absolutely in love with my bright, but natural-looking blonde. It feels like she read my mind and effortlessly gave me my dream color. Crystal gave me a cut. I didn't take that much off since I'm in a wedding this weekend and wanted to keep some length for an updo, but a trim was very necessary. Pretty expensive trim, but well worth it to feel like my hair hit the re-set button. Plus, she was hysterical. My only regret is forgetting to check in on the Yelp app for 20% off your first visit :( :( I've already convinced a friend to dump her salon and switch to Red Market. I left this salon in tears, very upset with the job done on my painstakingly cared for hair, at the hands of salon owner Reynald Ricard. Reynald and his salon took over a month, and A LOT of my time with texting back and forth, before we reached anything resembling a solution. Reynald made no attempt to personally reach out, until a month after services, and after this public review, despite being fully aware of how upset I was and knowing exactly how my hair color looked..because he did it! I suppose it's not possible to go through life without experiencing at least one hack job, but I never expected it to be at a salon that touts itself as high end, $420 later (not including tips). I will preface what happened by saying that I have always paid top dollar for my hair, because it's important to me, and have always been loyal to my stylists (before moving here from LA). I had been to Red Market on two previous occasions for cuts with David, and one other time for balayage on my uncolored hair by Reynald. The first time Reynald colored my hair I was relatively happy with it; nothing to write home about, but I liked the way David cut my hair and felt like I was in good hands seeing the two salon owners. This last time however, in regards to the hair color: no explanation needed. I've attached photos of the color job that Reynald did on my hair: harsh lines, unblended highlights, blotchiness, areas where the bleach bled onto other areas of my hair, bands of color. These photos were within hours of leaving Red Market. Some of them were taken by a stylist at another salon, when I walked in there in tears of frustration, because Reynald would NOT ACKNOWLEDGE that it needed to be corrected! Even still, a month later, no acknowledgement that it wasn't done properly. I told him immediately after my hair was blowdried that the highlights were not what we discussed, or in anyway similar to the *natural looking* photo that I showed him prior. They came out very thick and unnatural, overly blonde and yellowish, and I pointed out several of the severely unblended, harsh lines, and splotchy areas. Reynald's response was simply that I "must not be used to the lightness" or that perhaps I wanted to add more! I agreed to stay for him to continue working on my hair, thinking he would properly blend the highlights, but all he did was add a gloss to my hair (which did nothing to mask the badly applied "balayage", and would also wash out after a few weeks, exposing the overly processed color once again). I texted photos to my mother while in the chair and she agreed that I better leave. I had been there for 4 hours, Reynald would not admit that the highlights were bad, and I was scared to let him continue. Upon checkout, Alexa the receptionist, was dismissive of my complaints and only scheduled a correction follow-up appointment with a different stylist when I INSISTED that she do so. I later canceled this appointment; if the salon owner himself won't admit to wrong doing, I couldn't imagine entrusting them with my hair any longer. To add insult to injury, the salon (specifically Alexa, receptionist), knowingly overcharged me by over $30, on TWO separate occasions. This is evidenced by my bank statement and itemized receipts that they provided to me. The first time, they charged me for a treatment that I didn't receive and I later had to argue to have it refunded in the form of salon credit. They also added undisclosed "surcharges", in addition to HIDDEN charges added to the total, that can't be accounted for by any line item on the receipt..they just padded an extra $30 onto what they charged my card! The only reason I noticed this is because I requested itemized receipts, and added up the total cost of all services, taxes, and their undisclosed surcharges, and the actual total that should have been, was over $30 less than what they charged to my card, on TWO separate visits. After all of this, I had to spend $450 at another salon, just to have my hair color corrected (yes, a total of $850 on my HAIR--sickening). The resolution was a partial service refund of the color service. Alexa (receptionist) had the nerve to baselessly argue over the amount that would be due back to me, and it had me wondering why she won't admit to overcharging me, despite hard evidence in the form of THEIR receipts and charges to my card. The salon is either diahonest or incompetent at customers' expense. Again, this experience cost me over $850, just to get get my natural color hair back that I started with...it took over a month to just see SOME of that money back. I hope no one else has to go through this. read more
