I strongly recommend that home warranty customers document, and if possible, record their interactions with this "company." My experience was so concerning that I have filed a formal complaint with the home warranty company, which has now assigned a claims specialist to review the matter. Fortunately, I was lucky to have video footage of the interaction via our home security system. This company was dispatched to my home for a plumbing issue involving the water supply to my refrigerator. The refrigerator is approximately FIVE feet from my kitchen sink. There is an open and easily accessible route through the cabinet and behind the dishwasher directly to the plumbing under the sink, where there is an accessible cold water supply and shut off. Rather than discuss the obviously straightforward connection to the cold water supply, the plumber began describing this as potentially being a major job. He mentioned the possibility of having to CUT INTO THE CONCRETE to run a water line!!! I had my mom, who is elderly, there meeting him and she called me and put me on the phone with him when he started going off on this tangent. I work in construction and I understand enough to recognize when someone is being disingenuous. The suggestion that this could potentially require cutting into the concrete is completely ABSURD. Once I got him on the phone, he quickly backtracked, and then ended up leaving the house shortly after, providing no services. It is now 5 days post visit and this "company" has still not filed a report with my home warranty. The entire interaction left me questioning whether the goal was to genuinely diagnose and resolve the plumbing issue or simply justify performing no work on a home warranty dispatch. To be clear, I am describing my personal experience and my concerns based on what I personally observed. I do not know how this company is compensated by home warranty providers or whether compensation is received simply for responding to a dispatch. However, based on my experience, I believe home warranty companies should carefully review this contractor's diagnosis, representations, and service practices. I cannot help but wonder what an elderly homeowner or someone with no construction experience would have believed after being told that a refrigerator water line located approximately five feet from an accessible cold water supply could potentially involve cutting into their concrete. I would not allow this company back into my home, and I would strongly encourage others to document their service visit and independently verify any claims. I will be filing claim with the state, the CSLB and BBB, as I noticed that their CSLB# is suspiciously absent from their website, which is in contrast to CA State Law. I hope that, if this company is operating as a properly licensed contractor, it quickly addresses these issues and seriously reviews its service practices. read more

We discovered a water leak the first week at our new home and filed a home warranty claim. The warranty company sent out A J Bono, the plumber arrived, measured the moisture on the wall, checked the vanity fittings, and left. Later the warranty company denied our claim, citing that A J Bono had told them we opened up the drywall. We absolutely DID NOT open up any drywall. They straight up lied! This company is terrible. They were sent to me through my home warranty for a plumbing concern. the technicians did nothing but look for water spots. They didn't even turn on the water. i had to argue with them over and over that it wasn't a full diagnostic. I had finally had to have my home warranty company reschedule with someone else from the company because they refused to do the work, but I couldn't switch companies. The technicians never showed up, no one called me. So after wasting my day waiting I finally called them and they said oh this was canceled by the home warranty you have to call them. I said "I just talked to them a couple days ago they set this new diagnostic up because it wasn't done right the first time." The receptionist, like the workers continued to argue with me so I just hung up. Thank goodness my warranty company is sending someone else out to actually do the correct work. AJ Bono selected by First American Home Warranty to fix gas leaks. Both parties collude to help warranty company avoid cost of repairs. Initially, warranty co. tried to deny coverage by claiming preexisting condition. After showing proof that this was a lie, warranty company paid approximately 30% of bill claiming the repair was a "modification" rather than a fix. AJ Bono would not returns calls and front desk said that they were instructed by warranty company to avoid our calls. We went almost one month without access to gas service (hot water, heat, cooking). Note the pattern in prior reviews. read more

Requested service via home warranty. The first time the guys came they put a camera in my garbage disposal and showed me a video. Then said that theyd get back to me about whether or not pumping the line was possible. Never heard back. The second time was with two different employees who seemed more experienced and professional. They gave me a quote for replacing the pipes in my house and educated me. They were supposed to email a quote but that didnt happen so I contacted them and they sent it to me. They replaced two faucets and said the third one was coming. Again, I didnt hear back so a couple weeks later I called and they rescheduled another appointment. You get the picture, hopefully! read more

AJ Bono parks their business vans in residential neighborhoods and leaves the cars parked on the street for weeks at a time. We recently had one of their business Vans parked on our streets for almost 3 weeks. We called the Sheriff's and told them the car was abandoned. The sheriff tagged the the plumbing van and immediately the van gets moved. Wait, someone moves the van up 2 parking spots, but leaves it on the same street. The residents do not want a plumbing van parked in front of our residence for weeks at a time. We called the company about them leaving their cars and our neighborhood and whoever answered the phone said they would talk to upper management about it. I am leaving this Yelp review because it is extremely rude to leave Plumbing vans, or any kind of work vehicles, and a residential neighborhood for weeks at a time. read more

Well, its been a long week to get our house water pipes completed replaced, and its actually two water systems. One for our lawn irrigation and the other for our internal water use that flows thru a Halo 5 Whole House filter. It was ALOT of work and the Master Plumber "Rafael" was always very detailed with his work (Pipes very neatly routed, solder joints very clean, and NO LEAKS) and "Mervin" was his hardworking assistant working under the house for hours with no complaints but to get the job done right the first time! It was always a pleasure speaking with "Karla" back in the office to make sure the scheduling, pricing, documentation for city inspections, and invoicing was done right the first time. This is the worst plumber experience I have ever had. The guy shows up to fix a slightly rocking toilet. He removes a bolt and immediately declares the flange is broken and that someone would have had to physically cause the damage. You cannot diagnose a broken flange without removing the toilet. He never did. Instead of addressing the simple fix, he tried to push a bigger repair. And why would a plumber show up to fix a rocking toilet without even bringing replacement bolts? Do not waste your time or money with these people. read more

If you're reading this because you're researching the plumbing company your home warranty company chose, the reviews are true and the 2-star rating is accurate. It took almost two weeks for AJ Bono to tell me it would be $900+ more in "uncovered upgrades" (on top of what my home warranty was already covering) to replace my water heater. Mine you, I was without hot water this whole time. I almost pulled the trigger just to get the whole ordeal over with but then they said they forgot the cost of the permit and that it would be an additional $150! That was the straw that broke the camel's back. Called my home warranty company and cancelled AJ Bono to find my own plumber (SAV Water Heaters - Alex did an EXCELLENT job at a fair price!). If you look at their cost breakdown, the pricing is ridiculous. This is just a few of the items: $125 for a sediment trap ($10 @ HD), $120 for T&P line modification (I was replacing with the same brand/model water heater - the T&P is in the exact same location), $95 for a drain pan ($18 @ HD). The only positive is Ramon (he doesn't do the pricing), the AJ Bono plumber that came to my house, he's a good guy. So no, I would not recommend AJ Bono. In fact, your home warranty will reimburse you if you want to find and use your own plumber like I did. Hey, you're already on Yelp, just do it and save yourself the headache! read more

Response Time: they contacted us to schedule an appointment right away. They gave us a 2 hour window, and prior to coming, we were notified of their estimated arrival. They arrived within the first hour and on time Service: because they knew the need, they had a replacement available in the car, and it was installed within 5 minutes. Our home warranty insurance sent this company to fix 2 of our bathrooms because it was clogged. They had to removed the old toilet on one of them to have better access of unclogging the drain. Afterwards they were able to install the new toilet we bought instead of replacing the old one back. Octavio and Alonzo are 2 wonderful guys. Very friendly and everything was professionally done. I was referred to A J Bono plumbing through my warranty company. Having read some other reviews, I was a little apprehensive but trusted the process. Our service was to clear a sink back up and look at a broken garbage disposal. Diego was our assigned technician and I have to give him a shout out for his professionalism and helpfulness. He communicated his arrival times and showed up when he said he would. He also wrote up his reports in a timely manner to get the approvals we needed from our warranty company. He did the work quickly and kept the work area clean. Diego compared our broken unit to what he had in his truck, which was a lower horse power model. Because of that he made sure to report back we needed the higher power model so that we had something equal to what came with the house. He also made sure to report that our new disposal wasn't working properly due to an electrical issue in our outlet (so we could get a referral to an electrician to help.) I also dealt with the office staff a few times to follow up on scheduling and our reports back to the warranty company. Everyone was responsive and helpful. I can't speak to their pricing since the work was done under our home warranty service fee. I would be happy to use them again and had a great experience, especially with Diego. read more

Hello. Whoever answered the phone today around 5 pm was very disrespectful, used derogatory words and, has a bad attitude. She kept talking and blamed me for just calling now when the problem was from August last year. If their company made a plumber's report at the beginning or right after they inspected the area of complaint, the insurance company would have not been looking for it now. If it has been a long time or why are we just calling now? It's because the reimbursement from the insurance company is taking this long to look into this issue. If the report has been done the day after, then it could have been sent to us already. We've been calling since last week and we will receive it through email. But AJ Bono never did. Send it tomorrow and I want to receive it by the end of the day. read more

Their scheduling took 4-6 days (hence only 4 stars) and they rescheduled 3 hours earlier on the day of. Manuel helped service my problem today. Manuel was in and out within 20 mins for both issues. Thankfully I didn't experience the quality of what other bad reviews experienced. Will update if I have another visit from them. read more

The plumbing company called, set an appointment for 2 days later to address a leak in my bathroom. They ended up calling the next day because there was a cancellation, the woman on the phone was kind and professional, they ended up sending someone over within minutes of that second call. Diego came, was polite, offered to cover his shoes, went into figure out what was going wrong, he fixed it and cleaned up within 45 minutes. Diego came to my house in response to a claim on my home warranty for a broken garbage disposal. The appointment time was 2-4. I got a call from him letting me know when he would be here. It was within the time window. He quickly diagnosed it and decided it needed to be replaced. It was a pretty old unit. He was able to replace the garbage disposal quickly and professionally. I had another plumbing issue. There was a possibly gas leak. Alfonso came out and assessed the situation. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and personable. I had to give one star. They deserve NO STARS!!! I've been waiting since Sunday when I made my service request, They were supposed to be here today (Wednesday), between 10 and noon. No call, no show. I had to call THEM! I told them that I am waiting for someone to show up. I was left on hold for at least 5 minutes. They got back on the phone and said the plumber was "running a little late". I told them I have been waiting and someone should have called me. Clearly, I was never scheduled as the operator said that they were coming from Concord and would be here in 30 minutes. LIES.... RANT: Save yourself from my headache - Plumber addition Apologies for the long post. Do NOT go through AJ Bono Plumbing. I have been having basic items being fixed for warranty (leaking faucets, drains not holding water, etc) that are pretty minor. They have been coming out since Aug 31st bc they can't get their stuff together. 1) They are apparently so "booked" they come back every 2 weeks almost. This is probably bc they have to come back so many times for minor issues...not bc they are good. They have come out 5 times since Aug 31st due to minor fixes (leaks, drains not holding water, etc) bc they don't have the right part or they didn't know. 2) They are horrible at communication. Multiple times I was given a 3 hour window - normal. A couple of times I had to call them to find out if they were coming out bc it was about 15 min to the end time. Oh ya he is running late. So I had to call. Then they were 1.5 past main time and I had to call to check in another time just to make sure. This most recent time I again had to call 45 min before end time and they said he was leaving. Over an hour later I call again oh he should be there like 30 min from when you called - ummm that was over an hour ago sir. They were about 1.5 past the end time again. All I was looking for was an update and I had to do that with a busy work schedule. 3) Now they can't help bc it's a new issue and warranty needs to verify this. It wasn't a new issue a leaky faucet is a leaky faucet. Well it's bc calcium build-up. That doesn't matter it's causing the issue - leaky faucet. Then he changes his story and says sorry it's not in the notes, must be the other guy I don't know. Again their team should be communicating. They also closed the call after 1 visit and I had to call warranty back to re-open bc they didn't resolve all issues. Please save yourself the headaches. I reported them to warranty as well in hopes they don't get dispatched to another poor homeowner. If you do - request someone new. Once they have your work order you can't swap. read more

Had we not had a home warranty we would not have gone with anyone other than our regular plumber. We'd just purchased a condo and decided to use our home warranty to get the leaking sink in the second bathroom and broken drain in the bathtub fixed. Our home warranty provider assigned A J Bono Plumbing to our case for the measly sum of $85. Now for reference, we're used to paying a fee when a plumber comes out. But unlike with our home warranty we weren't limited to two plumbing problems and the fee was completely reimbursable if we used them. Our $85 got us an appointment a week after we alerted our home warranty provider to our problem--leaking bathroom sink and bathtub that wouldn't fill. We had a second sink, so a nonfunctional bathroom sink wasn't the end of the world and our shower functioned. The plumbers from A J Bono Plumbing were in our house for less than fifteen minutes and never cracked open a toolkit. They handed me the bathtub stopper and told me it was broken and they couldn't help. They pointed to the dripping faucet and said I needed a new part and explained that it would be chrome. As they left they told me they'd get back to me with the part I needed. They never got back to me. About a week after their visit, my husband and I disassembled the bathtub stopper. We discovered part of the stopper was installed backwards. (A J Bono Plumbing didn't even look at the part.) We fixed the stopper ourselves and now have a functioning bathtub. We had similar luck with our leaking sink. Our sink and vanity are from IKEA. The manuals recommend checking for leaks after the fixtures have been used for a bit. We discovered the drain wasn't fully secured and water was leaking. We disassembled the drain and resecured it ourselves. It no longer leaks. I don't recommend these plumbers unless you want to learn how to be a plumber yourself. read more
