I got the Groupon and was pretty disappointed with the outcome. My hair dresser, edward, was very nice BUT I really wanted to get my roots done and the conditioning treatment. He did a weave to fix my roots but did not do enough. At this point I literally still need to get my roots done. Okay and I'm really confused about the conditioning because he just washed the bleach out of my hair, that was it. If I remember the Groupon even stated the conditioning was a 30$ value. Bradley: I am so lucky that I found him. Bradley has been doing my hair (cut/color) for the last year, and I am always SO happy with his work. (He is a perfectionist, and it shows!) He always takes the time to make sure he understands what haircut/color I want, and continues to check in throughout the appointment to make sure we are on the same page. We've done a couple different haircuts and colors at this point, and I have loved every one. Bryce is wonderful! Pretty much the scariest thing in the world to me is trying to find a new stylist that will razor cut my cowlicky, fickle, stick-straight hair. I am definitely a hairstylist snob and I hate to be so shallow but there it is... I used to spend 3+ hrs with top stylists in Beverly Hill getting my hair done to exact specifications. So when I moved to Portland I moved from stylist to stylist trying to find the same level of skills cutting and coloring and I have finally found it in Andrea. I wanted a long layered Bob with piecey fringe in the front. I showed her pictures and she got it exactly. She managed to style my extra thick hair so it didn't do that annoying flip that long bobs can do when done by stylist who don't know how to cut. She also knows how to create edgy fringe pieces without making your hair look ragged and butchered. Just amazing to find such talent here. read more

I've now been to Lorraine and Andrea, and they are both outstanding. The first time I came in Lorraine did my color, and not only did she nail my very particular and hard-to-describe request (low-maintenance reddish-bronzy hombre streaks?), it still looks great like six months later without any touching-up. Andrea is an ace stylist. I came to her wanting a change, without knowing what that was, and I trusted her to have free reign on my cut. It WAS totally different without it being weird. Again, nailed it. Aside from the stylists' superb, intuitive skills - this spot is just a good, friendly, neighborhoody, happy place that looks as much as an art gallery (complete with wine!) as a hair studio. Ja'Nien is amazing. I saw her for 10+ years and only stopped because I moved away for a new job :-( She's a genius at color and her ability to do different hairstyles is top notch. I went through long hair to pixie cut and back to long again as well as bangs and no bangs. I've been going to Dosia for about 6 months after stylist hoping for the last 2 years. My stylist of 6 plus years disappeared leaving me stranded. It was traumatic! I'm gonna stay put with her; she's a top notch colorist, gives you several options, and willing to do the work if you just want a full revamp. I'm impressed her her knowledge of color theory and her background as an artist comes through. Her haircuts last me about 8 plus weeks and for that I'm really grateful. My hair is thick and not easy to cut, and she does a brilliant job. When I found her I was looking for a middle aged makeover, and she had the insight on how to give me a new look without it being completely high maintenance. Amy George at A-List is great!! She knows what she is doing with hair and color. I am very easy going when it comes to my hair and put the trust in the stylist most of the time. I went to Amy needing a change in color and a cut. I currently am growing out a wedge cut that was too drastic in the angle for the length. I also had just a basic dark color. I wanted lighter highlights and cut that will look good while growing m hair out. That was pretty much what i said to her. The outcome is AWESOME! She did the perfect blonde color for my hairlights and it came out well blended not streaky looking. She gave me some modest layers and didn't shorten it to anything that I noticed. I am a self professed very picky, color junkie, I am in the salon every 4 weeks... I recently relocated from Chicago to Portland. I cried when I left my previous stylist, totally heartbroken.. SIGH..I would have to find a new colorist/stylist. It took forever to find someone who could color my difficult crazy hair just so (brown to blonde) . ..So fast forward to Portland, I went to Dosha on a referral thinking maybe this would be a good place to start- wrong! I ended up a brassy gold mess (even after she did a correction!) So what is a girl to do?!! I did some research on-line, and read some really great things about A-List.. So I called them up and gave them my sob story. The receptionist told me she had the colorist/stylist for me! She recommended Lorraine. The day of my appointment I am nearly running to the Hair studio in anticipation of getting rid of my brassy mess, yet worried I wouldn't leave looking the way I'd like. Lorraine came over and introduced herself. Her warm and kind personality immediately made me feel comfortable. We sat down to discuss my brassy mess and her master plan to fix it. Lorraine really took the time to listen to me as to what I wanted my hair to end up like, and explained in detail how she was going to go about getting me the hair I wanted. We decided a color correction would get me where I wanted to be.. some foils, low lights, and a toner to take down the brassy mess. Honestly, I thought Lorraine came up with a really great plan, but I thought there would something about my hair I still wouldn't like, I am a really picky person! My hair turned out perfect! She was able to take out the brassiness and still maintained the highlights I had. I liked my color better than when I had it done in Chicago!! She totally rocked it! My expectations were blown away. I left on cloud nine!! I just recently just went back to have my roots touched up. Out of all the colorists I've been to, no one has been able to get my roots right on the 1st try. There's usually something we'll tweak with the formula. It's a trial and error process. I was expecting that we'd have to go through this same process to get that perfect formula. I left with perfect hair! Lorraine got it perfect the first try ! She is an expert, and I am just totally blown away. No brassiness anywhere!! Both times I have been in to see Lorraine, I left so happy!! She did a masterful job with the color, and the blow dry. I am so happy to have found her. But after a wonderful, serendipitous first meeting I had with her, I don't think I can go anywhere else. She's not only an incredible stylist, she's a wonderful person to talk to! I bought a groupon for a haircut, customized conditioning treatment, full highlight, and style with Edward King (Eddie). Pros: 1. Eddie was really attentive to what I wanted, and made me feel like he really understood what I wanted. I'm super lazy with my hair, so he made sure to give me a hairstyle where I could just wash my hair and go 2. My appointment lasted 4.5 hours and Eddie was professional, fun, friendly, enthusiastic, and attentive the WHOLE time. He asked whether I wanted something to drink several times, was aware of when I needed to pop downstairs and pay for more street parking, and made sure I was comfortable with what he was doing. He even offered to go downstairs and help me deal with paying for more parking when I had foils in my hair. 3. It was obvious he was passionate about his work, and knew what he was doing. I ended up getting dark red/mahagony highlights, and Eddie decided to make them a little brighter so that they'd last longer between fading and needing to be touched up. He also put the majority of the highlights under the top layer of my hair so that it will be less obvious when my hair grows out, and I don't have to worry about getting touched up constantly. He was really mindful of what I told him, and made sure I could get away with being lazy about letting my hair/highlights grow out. 4. About an hour of my appointment was focused on drying and styling my hair, so my hair looked so good when I left. Cons: 1. I hated having to worry about when I needed to pay for more parking, but this wouldn't be a problem if someone were to take public transportation or get dropped off. 2. The customized conditioning didn't feel like anything special, just some normal conditioning. I was expecting more as my hair didn't feel significantly different afterwards. 3. When I left, there were about 10 pieces of hair on my face I didn't know about, so it would have been nice if he had pointed it out because I have dark hair so it really stuck out. Overall, I will definitely come back to get a haircut from Eddie because I feel like he really listened to me and did a great job. I'm surprised I didn't scare him away because I came in with super thick Asian hair that went past my stomach. Edit: My sister and best friend had a hard time seeing the highlights, so I went to the bathroom to take a closer look. I now kind of wish there were more highlights on the top layer of my head, as it's hard to see the highlights if I don't put my hair up or move my hair around. However, the spots where the highlights are visible and very vibrant, and I understand Eddie was trying to downplay the need to get retouched consistently. If I get highlights again, I now know what I prefer. read more

The atmosphere is warm and professional and from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave with an amazing new cut, the stylists at A-List make you feel like family. As far as the actual haircut, I only have experience with Bryce! I've never had a stylist take time and listen to me in order to get a better vibe of what haircut would be best for my life until now! Easily the best salon I have ever been to and I recommend it to every family member and friend I have!
