Another great review for Kristina Santos! I must say that meeting Kristina was the best thing that has ever happened to my hair! I am VERY hard to please and I can honestly say that I have just been barely ok with my hair color for years. I go to the best, most expensive places in Portland and Seattle...thinking that if I spend a lot of money then I will finally get what I want. Nope. Never happens. Until TODAY. You can look at my most recent review of a lukewarm experience I had in trying to go from brown to red at one of the higher end salons...I was not a happy camper. But I was unwilling to give up. I found Kristina here on yelp so I took the plunge. Kristina listened to the whole back story on my hair woes and when I say she listened..she really really listened. I have been trying for almost 6 months at 4 different salons to get this specific color I had in mind, and even though I have photos, it just never pans out. It's too dark, not red enough and just not really what I want. I showed Kristina what I wanted and she said it would be easy and low and behold, it WAS. It was easy for HER because she is apparently some kind of genius. The color was SPOT ON. I never thought it would happen because I have to admit it was a complicated color -- a sort of shimmering/gold/copper/brownish look. My favorite magazine calls it "Sandy Red".. Not too brown, not too red, but still kind of red, not edgy, yet still very striking..yep...I am a picky girl and yet..she nailed it. The color is amazing and stunning. It's exactly the color of the photo I brought in. When I walked out onto the street, I was turning some heads. And to top it all off, the prices were so reasonable! AND best part...she never once tried to sell me a product (don't you just love when your stylist spends the whole appointment trying to sell you stuff -icky) and the space is so quiet and cozy. It is 3 floors up in a really hip building in the heart of the pearl. It reminds me of a cozy artsy apartment. I have finally found the best. Thank you!! read more

Edit: I recently visited A List (this was about my 4th visit - my first visit I went from blonde to red and got an adorable bob and was very happy with it, and the other visits were for minor trims) and unfortunately had my first bad experience there. The stylist (who is really just a sweetheart) and I must have just been talking past each other without realizing it because after what seemed like a thorough discussion of what I wanted, both the cut and color turned out to be something quite different. The color wasn't bad by any means, it just was quite off from what I asked for, however (just so I am being straightforward) I did think the cut was somewhat poorly done. HOWEVER! After leaving a lengthy review (that I will admit, was quite dramatic on my part) about how unhappy I was, the owner, Andrea, contacted me and offered to fix up both the cut and color. She went above and beyond, coming in on her day off so that I could leave on my vacation with hair that I loved, and staying for multiple hours to give me wonderfully platinum hair. On top of really knowing her stuff and doing a fabulous job, it is a joy to be in her chair because she is super sweet herself, and loves to chat. What I did not know, is that A List guarantees their work, so if you leave feeling unhappy (which I am sure very rarely happens with such talented people here, I'm quite sure my experience was an outlier) just let them know (preferable in a less sensational way than myself :P ). It's refreshing to know that they are so committed to a happy clientele, I've not found this kind of service in other salons! I did leave off a star for the visit I originally reviewed about, but both my very first visit at A List, and the most recent, warrant 5 stars. Chelsie is the amazing. I have been seeing her for the past seven years or so and I literally won't let any other hair stylist touch my hair. I bounced around to different salons for years and I would cry after every haircut. When I found her, it was hair love. She always knows just what I want and makes sure not to commit my hair pet peeve, which is go shorter in length than I want. I have long hair and she can do layers perfectly, they don't feel chunky or over-done. In college, I would drive the 100+ miles from Eugene to Portland for a cut and it was always worth it. While I don't color my hair, my mom does and she has since started going to Chelsie too. My mom is now also a convert; her cut and color are always beautiful and seamlessly work with her look. Chelsie is also very knowledgeable about products and knows what will bring out hair's natural health and beauty. She has introduced me to pretty much all the products I use, and I love how they make my hair look, feel (and smell). I originally found Chelsie when she was a at different salon and followed her to A-List without hesitation. I love the location, décor and feel of A-List. It has an upscale feel without being pretentious and having cup of tea or glass of wine with your haircut is always a bonus. I get compliments on my hair often and I have Chelsie to thank for that! Eddie has been an awesome stylist. I have been known to hop around between stylists every few months, but I have been seeing Eddie now for about 9 months. I work with his mom and decided to give him a try, with a huge plus that the studio is right across from where I live. My most recent cut has been my absolute favorite. I have very thick hair and wanted to do something a little different without going too short and I already have bangs. Eddie took about 1.5 inches off and added in a bunch of layers. My hair looks and feels the best it has in a long time and has been extremely easy to style. I recently got married and Eddie did my hair for the big day. He did an absolutely fantastic job. I showed him some ideas I had but let him take the reign. He created an elegent yet modern updo that was sleek and stayed in place the whole day into the late night. I felt absolutely gorgeous (along with my makeup, which was done by Chelsea). Eddie listens really well and really wants his clients to be happy with the end result. He engages in conversation but also doesn't feel the need to talk the whole time, which is something I appreciate it. He takes his time with me and is always willing to get me in for a bang trim, even with his busy schedule. Thanks, Eddie!! read more

Lorraine Altomari, at A-List Hair Studio -- great stylist, great space. My visit started with friendly, warm reception, and a glass of wine (water or coffee were also offered). When I was situated in her chair, Lorraine asked insightful questions about what I wanted, and listened carefully as I explained. The rare and wonderful thing was that Lorraine employed active-listening techniques, speaking back and confirming her impression of not only what I said, but, from her standpoint, what I meant. She took time to guaranteed we were on the same page, and by the end of my cut and color, the results not only proved her insight as a service provider, but her mad ninja skills and talent as well. Lorraine's work is the perfect combination of talent, intuition, experience, and an authentic desire to provide amazing service. What I'm about to say might sound fake, but I've never gotten so many compliments from friends, and friendly strangers, on my hair -- cut and color, both. It takes a lot to put one's full trust -- and tresses -- in someone else's hands, but Lorraine deserves anyone's trust and more. I can't recommend her highly enough. read more

I had my hair cut and colored by Eddie King, and he was fantastic and therefore gets my first yelp review! :-) Two weeks after my appointment, I can confirm that my hair still looks great ... I've already received compliments and recommended him to my friends, and I have to say I hesitated to write my review only because I think he'll be booked full with clients soon. Having lived all over the U.S. and abroad, I know what a pain it is to look for a hairdresser, so if you're on this page - look no further! I like a classy, long cut and strong, shiny, healthy-looking hair -- which is easier said than done when your hair has been dyed and highlighted multiple times, but he worked his magic! He also advised me on the best steps for growing my hair out, and was so much fun to talk to. The color used at the salon is very high-quality and my hair actually feels healthier than before. Eddie at A-List will definitely be my go-to and I feel lucky that he was the first stylist I saw after moving to Portland. Beautiful salon, great service! read more

I have had my haircut by Dosia and let me say I will never go to anyone ever again. She "gets" my hair and knows what would look good on my type of face. Before I saw her, I was stuck in a rut, the same hairstyle for a zillion years it seemed like. But she helped me see how I was aging myself, without her actually saying that of course, she is too nice to say you look haggard and old with your current hair. But the point is I get compliments all the time on my hair and is because of Dosia. Just a little sidebar, my 18 year old daughter just started recently going there and she has done amazing things with her hair, Dosia that is. My daughter had really rough hair due to over processing and in general treating her hair unkindly. She came home with the glossiest, prettiest, swingiest platinum blonde hair. I could not believe the transformation and my daughter was thrilled. I will never go anywhere else. read more

I have been getting my hair cut and colored by Lauren for almost a year and I couldn't be happier. We met when I was looking for a professional to fix my horrid ombre job that two other salons screwed up on (one screwed up first, then another screwed up even more when I went there for a fix). Lauren worked her magic and evened out my bad hair color job in just one appointment. She also introduced me to a wonderful hair conditioner to help with all of the overcoloring I was putting my hair through. Lauren is extremely careful when coloring my hair (HAVE to be for ombre hair) and always delivers what I ask for. My husband also started going to her and I am amazed that he leaves the salon with evenly cut hair every time (he has really unruly thick curls). I do believe we will be depending on Lauren to take care of both of our hair for years to come! read more

Well, yesterday was the first time I had scheduled a salon color in at least 20 years. My gray grow in just became to challenging and I had at least 3 different colors happening in my hair and not in a good way. Andrea, owner and stylist extraordinaire did an AMAZING!!! job - not only does my hair look even with lovely highlights, she was a delight to spend time with. I definitely am going back and have found my new stylist for years to come. The salon is beautiful too, nice and bright and in a fun part of Portland. The nice glass of red wine I had was an additional plus along with the great music they play. I've been a having my hair done at A-List since they opened, and the team of stylists there are just amazing! I love their talent and the way they listen to their clients. The owner, Andrea, is a master of cut and color, and I've also been there to see her work magic with the Japanese straightening technique on another client. Andrea is always interested in continuing education, and recently trained at a well known salon in New York for editiorial hair design (photo shoots, etc.). The expansion into the new space is so beautiful! They are now also offering esthetician services which I plan on taking advantage of. Online booking is so convenient! I recently went to see Chelsie Killian to get my hair colored and it turned out great! I had gone to see her before she started at A-List and loved how that style and color turned out so much that I decided she was my go-to girl when ever it was time for an update. She truly is an artist, so I feel completely comfortable going to her with a general idea of what I'm looking for and then saying "have at it. Do whatever you want with it." and it turns out amazing! She has a knack for looking at your coloring and facial structure and designing a cut and color works best for you. And she has an awesome personality, is tons of fun to be around, and you can tell she really enjoys what she does! read more

Dosia knows my hair and personality and never fails to make me feel beautiful. She is an expert at taming my curly and unruly locks which is quite an undertaking. The cut is always flattering, and since I am 46, my roots need attending to often, and she knows exactly how to make it look dark and rich, and I swear she makes me look 10 years younger! Not only that, she has recommended certain products to me and now I will settle for nothing less because it worked so well for me. In my opinion, her rates are affordable and going to get my hair done is actually fun because she is funny yet serious about helping me look and feel better. I am a customer for life! read more

I've been seeing Lorraine for over a year now, and she's fantastic! I'm a curly girl, and I honestly feel like, though I'm 25 years old, I didn't know how to style my hair until Lorraine styled it. I ask for something different every time, but it's always fabulous, and Lorraine also shows me how to make maintenance easy with my bike commute lifestyle! I am not a person that leaves reviews on line however if you are looking for a precision haircut and overall multi talented stylist, you must go to this salon and ask for Bryce. I have received some of the best haircuts and stylings from Bryce. He is well versed in razor cuts and all the modern techniques. No matter where I part my hair or if I'm caught in a windstorm I simply have to shake my head and my hair falls into place perfectly. Precise and sophisticated sums up Bryce's hair cutting skills. I cant believe Kristina doesnt have more reviews on here because she is amazing! I came in for a cut and color and left with a new identity. Kristina gave me long victoria secret ombre and didnt cut all my hair off like other stylist in the past. She was able to give me lots of layers and keep most of my hair. Its taken me a long time to find a portland stylist being from L.A. but im glad i found her. She teaches dance at the studio i take classes at and when I asked her how to get my hair to flip like she did she said "dancer layers". I knew I found the right girl..... read more

I Just got extensions from Kristina...she was so sweet. I needed them asap so she went to the supply place and grabbed them for me so we could do it without waiting for shipping...When she got back all they had was dark brown so she colored them for me for no extra cost;) I like my black hair:) Now its past my shoulders instead of the thin crummy bob i had:) I couldnt be happier...also the hair matches my hair and is not too "shiny" which I have got before....My natural hair is not super healthy but these made it look "normal" like I had pretty hair the whole time:) read more

For years now I have gone to salon after salon and was not particularly happy with the results until I found Loraine at A List Hair Studio. I'm a blonde and like my hair colored and highlighted so I can see the contrast in colors and Loraine worked with me to find the perfect formula. I would absolutely recommend Loraine to anyone. Dosia has been my hair dresser for many many years. She has never disappointed me and I am extremely picky with what I want and how I want it. She has always given top notch results.
