Nice divey atmosphere. Service is friendly. BBQ is ok. It wasnt the best bbq Ive had but certainly was not the worst. Brisket is subjective and everyone has their own opinions, but the tenderness depends on what part you request. ie burnt ends are tough. The moist is fatty and most tender part. I had brisket sandwich which is usually middle of the road. It was a little on the dry side for me but it was not flavorless. Not too salty and not void of seasonings but they couldve added more seasoning. I liked the cheesy warm potato salad and creamed corn. I didnt care for the cole slaw because it was heavy on the celery seed and didnt have mayo. But thats just their style. Sweet sister bbq sauce was good. They do have spicy sauce options but I didnt try them. My husband said the ribs were good. read more

Great BBQ with some unique ideas you don't see in other BBQ places. Brisket pot pie, my wife had the adult grilled cheese which had burnt ends loaded with cheese on like a baguette panini like bread. It was very good. I had the homemade sausage sandwich, maybe the best sausage in KC. Baked beans were very good, cheesy corn decent. Ordered 6 wings which came with fries for an app. Very good smoke flavor on the wings and very tender. Service was very nice, helpful and efficient. I only wish I lived closer. The bar base is actually the front end of a classic automobile. But the star of the show here is most definitely the food. This place is a major contender among top barbecue spots in Kansas City, no small feat for a city known for barbecue. We started with the bacon chips: an absolute must-try appetizer. These were delicious! We also ordered the burnt ends for lunch. They were melt-in-your mouth tender and delicious. The tables offered a variety of sauces. We opted for sweet sister, a slightly sweet tangy sauce, but the options ranged in heat and flavors up to Angry Mother-in-Law, the spiciest option. My sides include a crisp and delicious slaw (the non-spicy one) and pea salad. Both delicious. My husband opted for traditional beans and fries and pronounced them very tasty. Other menu items included ribs, meats, sandwiches and a creative and popular barbecue meatloaf. The wait staff was friendly; food and drinks arrived quickly. The owner was there chatting with customers and moving from table to table. He was very friendly and obviously, justifiably, proud of his restaurant and food. We will certainly be back and bring more friends. This place is definitely worth a drive to a Independence. Serious meat coma after going here for lunch! Tried a bunch of stuff here. My favorite by far was the bacon chips! I would come back purely to order those! Now for the rest, ribs were pretty good. Better than I expected. Brisket was decent, pulled pork was sub par. Spicy sausage was on point! Baked beans were good, and potato salad was solid and our server was very personable and funny. Can't believe I've never reviewed this place! I absolutely love this joint and I recently made it back to KC and paid them another visit. KC is arguably the center of the BBQ universe as it combines Carolina, Texas, and other BBQ to create a unique and arguably better flavor. Therefore, it's super disappointing to find so few good BBQ joints! Well, search no longer. This place does GREAT, and oh my god are the portions huge. I have tried the ham, brisket, turkey, and bacon, all the meat is so juicy and the portions will not disappoint !! I went in and decided to eat there. The waitress was great and supported my decision to get the burnt ends, it's a huge thing in Kansas City BBQ. Here is where my poor rating comes in: the sides were delicious and the meat was terrible. It was absolutely just not good. I feel like I know good meat and when I say "bad" it was edible but it was salty. I drenched it with sauce and it was still too salty, wrapped it up in bread and it was still too salty. The seasoning of the meat, I'd assume that it's what they season all the meat with so I wouldn't come back for meat but I would eat the sides- which does not a good place make.
