The food here is good but the service is lack of attention and the person that behind the counter is supper rude.

This is a grandma approved restaurant, which is the rarest of rare occurrences. We go here every year when the family gets together around the holidays. There is plenty of tables and can accommodate large groups. Today we went on a Tuesday night and there was plenty of room. On a Saturday night though, it is extremely crowded so getting a large table may be difficult at times and there will be a limit on the number of Peking ducks you can order. Food: We normally will get the 7 meal combo (which includes the peking duck) but today we ordered all fancy dishes. The peking duck is served with buns which is more vietnamese tradition rather than normal Chinese tradition which uses tortillas. We normally order an extra plate of buns because those are delicious. We had the deep fried lobster which is one of my favorite ways lobster is served because it is cut up into better sized pieces. The seasoning on this had just the right kick and the meat was tender. The deep fried soft shell crab was delicious - lightly crunchy and not too salty. The duck quy phi (yellowed colored duck) is also a favorite because it comes with this green ginger sauce that tastes yummy. My aunt really likes the calamari. My grandma compliments the fried rice. So something for everyone! Add a vegetable dish like Chinese broccoli and low mein for balance. To complete the meal, we usually order a soup for the beginning of the meal (usually included in the combo) and at the end of the meal there will be complementary orange slices or che (vietnamese bean dessert) if it is the weekend. This is definitely the family favorite restaurant in Texas. We will most likely be back next year. read more

Peking is KING! Best duck in Houston. It is because of A Ly, I salivate when I hear children playing "Duck Duck Goose" (not because I'm a pedophile). A Ly is not in Chinatown proper, it is located east of Beltway 8. A Ly reminds me of the 'Golden Nugget' in Vegas, it's off the strip so no one really cares to go, but it has some of the best deals. The deal I am referring to is ~$20 per duck. They serve their duck with sweet buns, the meat is tender and the skin is crispy. Many Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants in SW Houston specialize in providing a large feast for family dinners. In Western cuisines, you order one dish that's for you and only for you, even if you came with a family. Even then, everyone is going Dutch. In SW Houston, you're lugging along 8-12 adults, need to feed all of them, and in the end, you see adults fighting & hogging over who gets the honor of paying the $150-300 tab. Today, we hosted 15 family and very close friends at A Ly, and we were not disappointed. The reason for our visit: A Ly serves the best Peking Duck (Vit Bac Kinh Con) in the city. Located on Bellaire, in the heart of China/Vietnam Town, the restaurant has some serious contenders. The restaurant and its decor are sparsely decorated, but it is clean. They have plenty of large tables for hosting parties of 12. Larger parties require multiple tables. The wait staff quick and very helpful and they speak English well-enough. This is the go-to place for Peking Duck and sweet buns. You basically get a whole duck with this order, so it's a great dish to share. The meat is flavorful and juicy. Hands-down the best duck in town. I'm only giving it four stars because I haven't had their other dishes in a while, so I can't comment on those. The Peking Duck is definitely 5 stars though. A Ly is more like a Vietnamese / Cantonese restaurant but they serve one of the best Peking Duck in Houston. I took a good friend of mine to show her around in Chinatown. She said she was in the mood for Peking Duck. We decided to try this place. Peking duck must be cooked slowly so that the duck retains it moisture. The Peking Duck was perfect with a good, bold flavor. It came out with nice crispy skin that was juicy inside. Absolutely delicious! The Peking Duck was served with the sweet white rolls along with strips of leeks that can be mistaken for scallions. The best way to eat it is to sandwich the duck meat with the strips of leeks with a squirt of Hoisin Sauce in the sweet white buns. Do not order single entrees or go in a small group....the best value here is the dinner combos for 4 and up. The combo for 4 was $60 and had fish, a whole peking duck, jumbo salt toasted shrimp and 3 or 4 more dishes. The portions were huge and the sauces/taste were traditonal viet/cantonese. The combos are in the back of the menu and may be in Chinese/vietanmese only. All the waitstaff were older ladies and I am sure they will try to help you navigate the menu...and its a huge menu. I think this place is packed with asian families for a reason....expect a wait for dinner and there's only 2 or 3 tables for 4, all others were tables with lazy susans for 8 or more.. the decor is plain, the bathrooom is a little dirty, and the service slow, but I think this is the best value for cantonese seafood on Bellaire. read more

Let's just be straight here. The Peking Duck - one of the best you can get in HTX. They give you plenty of meat with a nice and crispy skin on top of it. It also comes with a fresh side of vegetables and hoisin sauce. Best part? The super fluffy banh bao (Viet buns) that are slightly sweet. Salted Fried Squid - my second favorite dish! The squid is lightly fried and comes with fresh cut onions and a lemon dip with pepper. YUM. It's so flavorful when you combine the two! Salted Fish Fried Rice - a lovely twist on fried rice. Try this if you're feeling adventurous. It's great for fish lovers! Lobster Stir Fried with Ginger and Scallions - Yet another lovely dish bursting with flavors! But I will warn you, it's a real workout to get the meat out of the shells. This place is one of your Bellaire gems. Check it out! It's relatively cheap for the portions you get. Btw, it would have been 4 stars but the service is really really bad...prepare to be given a slight attitude by the semi-old ladies that work here. The owners are from the Cho Lon District in Vietnam , they may have left their native land but they brought their great cooking with them. Although there are many great dishes to order from here I would recommend The Nui Bo Luc Lac ( Macaroni stir fried in a wok with garlic shaking beef) If you like Beef Chow Fun but the noodles are a bit munch take a bite out of this dish, 8.99 Or the Mi Kho tap cam ( Dry noodles combination) which involves a shrimp chip, beef, pork, a variety of seafood with veggies. The quest of the best Peking duck continued at A Ly. We came on a Thursday during lunch and the restaurant was empty. That's fine, I like eating in peace and quiet. =). We ordered the duck anda shaking beef macaroni dish (nui bo luc lac). The server brought out a small dish of cucumber, scallions, & sauce. Yay cucumber!! The duck came out and it was on a HUGE plate. Instead of the thin pancake you get at Peking Cuisine, A Ly had the white sweet buns. FIRST bite and the verdict was... FREAKING AWESOME. BF said the skin was perfectly crunchy. You could hear the crunchiness with each bite.The sauce isn't at great as Peking Cuisine but overall, I enjoyed it immensely. The downside with A Ly is that they do not have the soup after you finished with the duck. But I don't have to to-go the soup. All of the bones were hidden underneath the skin & meat. But still, that shouldn't deter you from coming here to try out their Peking Duck because it really is the best. Ok why's everyone saying this place has the best Peking duck in town? I beg to differ. #1 it was soggy #2 had no flavor #3 veggies were old, no where near fresh. I usually come once a month some of my favorite dishes are the peking duck with the banh Bao, com ga roti, and com Bo luc lac. We go here to pick up roast duck for family events. My GF is Vietnamese and her father loves this place so we have ended up here a few times getting the duck. Its in a Houston Chinatown shopping center-you know the type- but somehow parking has never been a problem. If you are getting a big meal to go make sure you call ahead and give them plenty of time or you will end up waiting. Due to frequent miscommunication we have ended up here waiting an hour for food we thought would be ready so don't make that mistake. The restaurant is reasonably large but in my opinion they try to squeeze too many seats at the round tables and there is absolutely no elbow room. Service is ok, they speak various asian languages and english. You get some good food for the price here. read more

Excellent Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine. Prices run $7 and up, but platters are family-sized unless you are Texas-sized. The Dau Hu Luc Lac is perfect - deep-fried soft tofu cubes caramelized in a butter/soy sauce/onion sauce - even Tan Tan can't compare. The Dot Dau Hoa Lan Xao Toi is another favorite of mine - snowpea leaves sauteed with garlic. It is never under or overcooked! read more

I remember I used to love eating here. Maybe it's time and/or a changed palette, but I feel this place has gone down hill a bit. We had 6 adults and 2 kids here this particular morning so we opted for the standard 4 person meal and added some snow pea leaves sauteed with garlic. Peking Duck - Still awesome. This is the one dish that has yet to disappoint me. Muc Rang Muoi/Salt and Pepper Squid - This is a lot better than I remember. Not as good as some of the places that have since closed down but probably one of the better establishments in town Tom Rang Muoi/Salt and Pepper Shrimp - I don't know why this was so different from the above but it wasn't as tasty. Boo! Seafood Clay Pot - Not anything that was completely memorable. Sauteed Snow Pea Leaves - I didn't think it was possible to mess this dish up too much but the vegetables didn't taste completely right. The other dishes I don't remember anything at all about them which tells you how mediocre they were. I need to find another com phan place. I can't help myself when I load up one of those cute little white buns that opens up like a taco to stuff it with crispy duck skin and meat, garnish it with shredded green onion, a sliver of cucumber, and slather on some hoison sauce. I ordered Peking Duck, 2 orders of soup (large pot), two orders of squid (entree portion) TO GO and they did not honor complimentary dessert as they would if you dined in. The owner's discretion. Customer service...FAIL. Food take out- they boxed all the food in styrofoam- heat scorching fried squid dumped in the foam without foil to lined the box. We get squid imprints on the foam. Visited this restaurant in Houston on my family trip. We ordered their famous Peking duck dish along with a variety of other dishes to eat with rice. The Peking duck wasn't as crispy as others mentioned. Maybe we got a fat duck that day. The other dishes weren't that spectacular either. Typical horrible Asian restaurant service. This one, in particular, look like we were invading her house or something. Was not happy to see us. Then when she brought the bowl and spoon for the soup, she dropped the spoons on the bowl loudly. Apparently this place is known for its Pecking Duck -- and that's exactly what I came for. Thinly sliced duck sandwiched into the "banh bao" calls for a meal in and of itself. Unlike other stores that skimp on the meat and just give you the skin and fat, I had plenty of protein to go around. I also ordered the "xoi ga soi mo" -- literally fried chicken and rice cakes in fat. This dish always comes with a sweet brown sauce that I love to use for my other entrees. The restaurant isn't that big, so on a Sunday night it started to fill up fast. By 6pm some parties started to leave since there wasn't any large tables left. I would not say that this is the BEST duck in houston. It's a vietnamese restaurant for goodness sakes. A group of 10 came and surprisingly we fit at one round table, talk about getting intimate with each other. We ordered 2 ducks which seemed to be enough and couple of dishes that we shared that I can't remember very well because it wasn't that impressive. The only thing I do remember is that their eggplant dish is not good. It was bland and not flavorful like other eggplant dishes I've tried. The frog legs were ok (I'm not a big fan or them nor will i ever be), dessert they gave was tapioca which was sweet and good, shrimp with mayo & pecans (just ok), chinese broccoli (pretty decent). Service was good, especially for a group of 10. I wouldnt say they were fast about refilling our waters or delivering our food all at once, but we remained satisfied throughout our dining experience. read more

I'm a frequent customer here. Guess what. Their service is going down hill. It's Saturday and the place is pack. There's 4 servers and the owner run around without knowing what they are doing. We walked in to the door and nobody greets us at least a head shake signaling we are there. NONE. NEGATIVE. First restaurant comment ever, since only the worst eating experience can extract from me a written response like this. I have gone to this restaurant several times between 2001 and 2017. However last month when I suggested this restaurant to a group of friends, one of them shook his head :"No, don't go. A Ly is now serving bad dishes". I didn't think much of that comment so this morning I took my wife there for the dish I like most from A Ly's menu : the renowned Peking duck. But what we got today unfortunately, instead of the familiar crisped red-skinned roast duck, was a small brown DEEP-FRIED one, all skin with a tad of shrunken stale meat ! The cucumber and green onion were so old they must have been in the fridge for more than a month. A bean sprout stir-fry was served as a side dish for an extra $5. When I told the owner about the down-the-drain decline of the Peking Duck's quality, she didn't say a word as if she had heard it so much lately from several unsatisfied customers that it didn't bother her any more. Total price including tips was $40 for a lunch, supposed to be its signature dish, that turned out to be so disappointed. I have a feeling A Ly restaurant will be out of business in a few months. Only giving this place a 4-star for its peking duck. It's extremely crispy and they give you a lot of buns compared to other places! Everything else is a 1-star. The service sucks. You'll be lucky if they greet your table in 5 minutes or less. Other than that, expect to wait for a long time to be greeted/have your order taken. I've had the fried chicken wings with fish sauce and it was extremely SOGGY. It wasn't even fried anymore. It was a disappointment. I've had the fried rice with sausage and shrimp. I've been looking for a good peking duck place! Finally!!! I found it!! BEST DUCK EVER!! Lots of meat & crispy skin on top!!! They also give you fluffy soft banh bao (steamed buns), side vegetables, and hoison sauce. Price is not bad. I also love their Beijing style pork ribs. Sweet and crispy! Oh and for an appetizer I like to order the Beef & Shrimp Jellyfish salad. So fresh and delicious. I always leave here full and happy. I feel like I'm gaining like 10 pounds.
