My recent experience with A Master Mechanic was an "above-and-beyond" effort! In particular, the owner, Jeff Pheasant, made certain that I was kept informed and that the project kept moving at a responsible pace. I should state that they accepted my vehicle as a special case, after I had been referred to Jeff by the owner of another shop. Specifically, I asked A Master Mechanic to help me with a 1962 Chevrolet C10 truck that I have owned since 1977, which is NOT a vehicle on which they would normally work. Jeff decided to accept the project and took it as his personal mission to ensure the truck received first class attention. Ultimately, it was recommended that I replace the engine and transmission, which was not a small undertaking, nor an inexpensive one. I was willing to make the investment based almost entirely on the knowledge Jeff obviously possesses about vehicles such as mine, as well as his enthusiasm for seeing a classic truck returned to roadworthy condition. I picked up the truck last Friday -- the day it was promised to be completed -- and have driven it numerous times since then. Zero problems thus far and it drives like a new vehicle. (Well, as "new" as a 63 year old truck can feel). Jeff also insisted that I call him directly if there are any issues or questions. So, this review is limited to the experience during service and the initial test drives following this very, very extensive overhaul, but I don't anticipate any issues in the future. Special thanks to Jeff and his crew, including Skyler, Fred, Geronimo, Ray, and Jeff's son. (And to Jeff's wife, for allowing him to take-on this project; it wasn't an easy one). Great shop with knowledgeable people. Teenage daughter did the mother of all curb checks, messing up the alignment and causing my sensors to go crazy. Being a female I am always hesitant to call shops because I feel like I'm going to get the run around or recommended "fixes" I don't even need. I knew the possible issues, called A Master Mechanic and spoke to Pat, who immediately mentioned the few things I knew might be the problem.Even though it was later in the afternoon, I was able to bring my car in on same day and it was fixed by the following day. Prices are fair and quality work was done. I was worried the problem was going to be huge and very expensive, but they looked it over and assured me it would be taken care of quickly and that it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It's great to find a mechanic that's trustworthy and does the repairs right the first time. I will definitely be coming here from now on and would recommend them to anyone. read more

Highest of recommendations to all the folks at A Master Mechanic. I had a dead starter at burning man and upon towing my z71 Silverado to their shop. They installed a new one only to discover that I had a fried module in my dashboard trying to jumpstart my old starter straight from the battery while still on playa. After 8 hours of temperamental electrical work on a FRIDAY, their badass technician isolated and fixed the module and relay so I could get home to the Bay Area before the weekend. If this shop wasn't a 5-star mechanic, I would still be stuck in Reno without anything to tow my travel trailer home with. Incredibly friendly yet professional family-owned business! We first met Jeff a couple years ago when my fiance and I were looking to buy an rv. We and our dog had been living on the road for about a year, so we decided it was time to find a home that we could bring along on our adventures. My fiance came across an add for this one of a kind toyota dophin. Shortly after, we met with jeff and purchased our new home! That was almost two years ago.... Since then, we have brought our rv and other vehicals into Jeff for minor and major repairs alike. They provide not only great mechanic services but also outstanding customer service. We have been incredibly satisfied in the past, and will continue you paton this shop and recomend it above all others in the area. 12/3/2014 While headed to Sacramento for Thanksgiving our Buick Park Avenue broke down about 20 miles west of Reno. The rebuilt engine only had about 4,200 miles on it after being replaced June 1st. I had called the engine warranty people who asked that I get it towed down to Reno and have it looked at. A Master Mechanic was the ONLY company willing to look at it on Wednesday morning. The problem was the warped plastic intake. Jeff located a new one in Reno and had us back on the road by Friday at 4pm. Jeff, Gary and Brandon treated us at all times in a very professional manner and stayed in constant contact with us. No other shop even wanted to get to our Buick until the Monday after Thanksgiving. I drive a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD that has served me well for over 250,000 miles. Out of no where the car started having the "Death Wobble". This wobble was getting worse and making the car unsafe to drive over 55 mph. If you Google "Death Wobble" there is a lot of information and what I was finding was encouraging me to start looking for another car. The mechanics at A Master Mechanic fixed it. The car drives safe and smooth. I saw a jeep doing the "Death Wobble' yesterday when I was returning from the store here in Truckee. This is an AMAZING place!!! We were up in the area for 2018 Hot August Nights and our air condition went out. We called at 3:00 pm and were told to bring our car in the following day at 7:00 am. The staff was SO friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Our car was ready by noon. The air works great and every time we turn it on we will remember all of you. Has anyone mentioned how hard it is to get an RV serviced anywhere, and quickly? We needed some important RV Transmission and tune up work done and, after calling three other local RV-Related Repair shops who had a 2-3 week wait, I found A Master Mechanic. I was in and out in just a few hours and was able to wait in their spacious waiting area with feee WiFi so i could get work done while I waited. This is the best place to take your auto. You are not a number and they don't look at you like you are a walking $. Totally a different experience than a dealership or other auto repair shops. This place is locally owned and the owner cares and it is reflected in the way their employees service autos and their owners. Our 1999 Ford is the car dedicated to our doggie, so it is very special to us! We would not trust it to just anybody, which is why we chose A Master Mechanic. It would not start after receiving a negative emissions test and we had to have it towed in. They tended to it immediately the next morning (Monday) and called with the diagnosis within hours. Asked the guy at the front desk how much it would be for a brake light replacement. He said if it was just a lightbulb like $10. Then he looked at the car, replaced the bulb, which fixed it and said it was free. How great is that! Super fast service and super helpful. Love working with business like that! read more
