Took my car in fir a full synthetic oil change. 5 weeks later my check oil light comes on. So I call them back. Leslie proceed to tell me it couldn't be anything they did. So I stopped at an O'Reilly 's and had then check my oil. It was empty. I had no leak. The guy there told me they didn't put any oil in my car. I had to purchase an additional 5 quarts. I spent $52 fur the groupon for Rick's then I had to spend an additional $36 plus tax for the 5 quarts of oil to put in my car. 5 weeks after a supposed oil change at Ricks that I needed. I went on Groupon to make a purchase for a $60 coupon that included a full synthetic oil change air and all of the tires tire rotation and a new filter. I got my car back after the service was done and noticed that my car was still driving the same. I decided to take my car to a different auto body shop and was informed that my oil was very dirty. I was in disbelief so I asked for them to show me and I was able to see that my oil was super dirty and clearly had never been changed. The crazy part about it is that they charged me a $15 fee to dispose of my old oil. If I could give zero stars, I would definitely give zero stars, these guys are scam artist. Took my car here a couple months back to get an oil change with a Groupon I purchased. The front desk person was rude and incorrectly tried to tell me I didn't have an appointment. Anyways, I picked up my car after the service and drove for a couple months until I decided to take my car in early to a different shop for a 75k service and tune up. I had about 3000 miles until I was due for an oil change, but the new auto shop said there wasn't a single drop of oil on my dipstick when I arrived (my light came on the previous day). They were shocked that my car was still running and suspected that Ricks had either not changed the oil, under filled it, or did not secure the cap properly. I have taken my Ford truck and my Honda in and have been given decent quotes for the work needed to be done. I don't expect cheap labor but the prices I paid for the work I needed was fair. Fantastic service, above and beyond! Went in to have my oil changed and tires rotated and the technician called me out to the bay to see that a plastic bag had gotten trapped and melted onto my exhaust pipe. They asked me if I wanted then to remove it and when I asked how much it works cost, they said, "Oh, nothing, we just wanted to make sure you get your permission." IMPRESSIVE! The moment we walked in was a not a good experience. My daughters simply said they were very very rude. Told them that it was going to take 40 minutes. This car was purchased for my 16 year old daughter and, take in mind I had inspected twice!! They came out and said that the car needed a tune up and that a cap was missing. When the car was checked out before and prior to taking it in the cap that is now missing was there!! The hood was lifted before we took it into the shop. Everything was great, no fluid leaks, agreed to keep the car overnight for us, etc. We get a call that the brakes need to be replaced- $400. Eek. Well, she had the brakes inspected 6 months ago (approx) and they said it was still great, but we occasionally had squealing. But one of our friends was a mechanic and said he'd take a look. Mechanic shop tried to hard sell us: "Front is worse than back, but it's at 5% of the break pad, you could damage the calipers which are $500 each to replace. " First, calipers are like $100 each at autozone, so what? And when my friend pulled off the tire it was around 50% (still 4-5mm of pad and the middle U clearly visible). My friend had to check in the rain because we couldn't drive home (2 hour drive) because we're rural. So now we're driving in the dark in the rain instead of beating the storms. Just make sure you set an appointment over the phone vs just showing up and expecting them to take you in immediately like Jiffy Lube. I also had a check engine light on and they ran the diagnostic for free, which usually is a premium service at an additional cost at other shops. The owner had taken responsibility and promised to repair my car but unfortunately after having my car since 9/2/2020 I picked up my car 9/11/2020 . I was told it was fixed to 100%. Went here for diagnostic on a check engine light. My car kept going into limp mode. I explained everything to Rick, discussed possible fuel filter with him. He had his assistant pull one of my plugs. Rick said it's possible that could be my problem. He gave me a verbal estimate on spark plugs, fuel cap, air filter and fuel filter for $400 total. They called me only 2 hours later, saying my car was done. When checking out, they had plugs and gas cap on the counter. I asked if the fuel filter was changed and the assistant said he didn't know. Hmmmm my total bill was $420 plus the receipt shows they changed the fuel filter. They didn't change it because it doesn't have one. It has a fuel pump that they would have had to drop the tank for. This used to be a very reliable place where I would feel like I wasn't taken advantage of and where they were eager to actually help you. Under the new ownership, it's just absolutely horrible! Went in for 2 oil changes under the new ownership, the second time they recommended I replace my rear rotors and brake pads. I trusted that they were going to take care of my car. I scheduled to drop my car off the following week. When I picked up my car, the brakes sounded atrocious. Mind you, the brakes never made a noise originally but James said that it was very worn. I believed him. I took my car back 2 days later and another mechanic took one look at my car and said, "Well the reason why you're hearing noise is because the back rotors and pads need to be replaced." I said that I had just gotten those replaced 2 days ago and showed the receipt that said rear brake pads and rotors were replaced. He says that whoever did it, put new ones in the front instead of the back. But now I need the back ones replaced. Unbelievable. They also ended up charging me way more than the quoted price and when I questioned it, he kept telling me that "so and so wasn't included in the price." Okay... to be fair - I can not rate on their workmanship. Reason being... I made the appointment, for a good feeling from Rick's very positive, tone. His unnecessary cocky bravado of "we have no appointment until" 3 days out, came across as odd. Appointment made, asked if they had night drop. He explained where their envelopes were and where the slot was. THERE IS NO ENVELOPES OR SLOT WHERE HE SAID. The envelopes and slot I finally found, was not to his shop. No clue, it wasn't his shop. I filled out the envelope and also wrote a note prior to getting there. Early the next day, I get a call from a mechanic names "Mike". He quotes one of the service I had inquired about, ridiculously high. Crazy high! I was annoyed, because I had a long conversation with Rick of what I needed. I asked about the other service I inquired about, Mike didn't know, hadn't looked that far yet. My thought... why the hell are you calling me then. I said, do the oil change, call me back with an estimate. No call back. I called about noon the next day to Ricks, where my vehicle. The person on the other end, "who are you?" That didn't set well. I said, I made an appointment last week. I brought it down Sunday, I spoke with someone Monday and got an obscenely inflates quote on spark plugs... the person asked if I remembered the guys name. "mike". That's next door, we don't have your vehicle. Okay... I made an appointment, you have ALL my info (including my name phone number and vehicle info) I parked my truck in front of your shop, but you don't have the key. MY THOUGHT PROCESS, as a business person... call the customer, ask where their key is. YOU'RE ALREADY EXPECTING THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK IS THERE. My adult language of "what the fuck are you guys pulling here." Offended the delicate mechanics manhood. I hung up. Found the number to Ricks business neighbor, asked his they had my vehicle, they did. That's a whole other review, not associated with this one. RICK... felt it was necessary to be a douche bag, and call me and question what I was doing accusing his employees of doing something with my vehicle. No... I never accused them of that. What I accused them of, was not looking outside on Monday, noticing the big truck that they have an appointment for on their books, not having keys... and making a simple call to inquire where the keys were. I accused them of being stupid. And I accused him being "fucking rude" for feeling he needed to call me and be an ass. That offended him too. His threat, he wouldn't talk to me if I continued to swear WHY WAS HE TALKING TO ME ANYWAYS. He doesn't have my vehicle. We already figured that out, with out him. He can't run his business or make basic phone calls, when trucks that have reservations are obviously in front of his business. I asked if he was an adult? and if he wasn't then he shouldn't be running a business. And if bad words were too much for him, to grow up. Take this review for what you will. My conclusion is, they aren't bad people but they are incompetent. I used to run a shop in so cal and now I'm currently the service manager of an RV service shop across the street. One of the guys used Rick's for a water pump job and said they were well priced and did good work. Great? Right? They guys across my street can help me with good mechanical repairs. I was excited! I first went over and was greeted by Junior, told him I needed a Tune up, trans service, Fuel filter, belt, and an oil change on a Ford E450 chassis. He quoted me, said it was fine and he can handle it. I figured I'd give them a chance, I didn't negotiate the price or anything. I didn't hassle them or question their qualifications. Took the unit over there, dropped it off. I don't know when they finished the work but before we decided on the work I asked for a quote on a catalytic converter. Thinking they had good prices, I could work with them. They tried to quote me on a dealer converter for over 2400. I found an aftermarket and ordered it. I asked if they can wield it they said yes they would wait for the part to arrive and handle it for me. I said great. No where during this time did they ask me to pay and pick up the unit. No where did they mention I gave them a $500 deposit before they even ordered parts, so they would take care of me. Instead they kept parking the unit in their lot sideways. I could see the unit most days from my lots, some days face towards the street somedays the other way. I thought I should tell them to make sure no one hits it, but I thought hey they know what they are doing. Ends up they can't do the catalytic converter, I left it for no reason and MY UNIT GOT HIT IN THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR. I called and explained the situation. They said they pulled it out and would have felt it hit. I said come take it look you can see it seems a tow hitch it right next to the taillight. So by this point I realize they just don't care about me and outright say they don't care. At this point they said junior but I don't know why. Soon as he arrives he says they will not do anything about it. I said you haven't even seen it yet. SO BY THIS POINT I KNEW THEY WERE CROOKED AND NOT HONEST POINT WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE DAMAGES THEY DENIED IT COMPLETELY. Even though my tech and I look at the unit and worked on it when it came in before we took it over. Ok fine. The dishonesty spreads to the automotive repairs. I didn't have a dipstick for the transmission, I kindly asked them to order one and replace it and charge me. Nope, they never ordered it. They charged me for it, but I had to go back today after the body damages and request a refund for the part. Ok, no important. Decided to test them and say "hey how did you do a trans service without the dipstick" Neil goes "we checked capacity". I said "what capacity on a drain and fill on that transmission? 3-4 quarts?" he goes yeah I think then he says "O wait let me ask my tech" and asks the tech for an answer and the tech replied correctly and said he drained it into a bucket and refilled the same amount. I look at my receipt and I got charged for 10 but my shop data everywhere shows under 10 quarts. Not a big deal, just from transmission fluid at 16 a quart... right? The last job was the worst job, I asked for an AC service and diagnosis. They said bring it over. I did and they recharged it and told me its working. I paid them $300 when I was quoted 200-250. I didn't care. However, the customer shows up and tests the AC and it never gets before 55 degrees. I look super embarrassed in front of the customer because I didn't check ricks work. I call them and they say it was cold for them. I said that's not possible. They wouldn't give me the money back so i can take it to a real shop and I only for $150 bucks back for no reason other than their misdiagnosis. They couldn't EVEN TELL A CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN THE HIGH PRESSURE AND LOW PRESSURE NUMBERS WHEN ASKED. THIS IS LAW IN CALIFORNIA TO WRITE THE RESULTS OF AN AC RECHARGE ON THEIR REPAIR ORDER. THIS SHOP HIDES INFORMATION, DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, AND CHANGES PRICES AND OVERCHARGES. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT FO TO THIS SHOP THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND NOT OFFER YOU SERVICE WHEN THEY NEED IT. I tried to express my frustrations with the manager today but HE WAS TOO BUSY PLAYING PLAYSTATION IN HIS SHOP TO PAY TO ATTENTION TO ME. My first experience with Ricks total car care a very good one. Complete tune up on my Suburu he quoted 350.00 dollars. I found that reasonable. However, after my experience today was completely shocking. I had to call him regarding the prognosis. He then stated he ordered the thermostate. For my 1996 Toyota. Why would he order anything until speaking with a customer. Then I asked well "how much are you going to charge me" His response was shocking. 450 dollars. He was charging that without discussing with me and confirming my authorization. I immediately went to Toyota and for the same work they quoted 220.00 dollars. What was upsetting he refused to give me an invoice and the break down of his estimate. I paid him the 100. I believed in him and his ability as a business owner. To charge me 100 dollars and then to refuse to put his recommendation in writing says a lot about his business practices. I think people should be aware and go elsewhere. The Toyota dealership was 1/2 the cost. He wasn't even willing to answere a question about the casing for the thermostate. He said he didn't have time to explain what it entailed. They told me they would call me with an estimate. 4 hours later I called them and they quoted me a price for the repair which I thought was too expensive so I told them I would just come pick up the car. When I got there they charged me $125 for the estimate which is supposed to be free under NV state law. Don't go to this shop and if you do get everything in writing before you give them the car. Used a groupon for an total synthetic oil change. Cheaper that Jiffy Lube and could make an appointment. Owner very friendly and only took about 20 minutes to change my oil. This is the second time that I got my oil changed there and I will go back again and again. I feel like they really know cars and felt like my car was being taken care of. I asked them if they checked the fluids (like Jiffy) and they said yes of course and we fill the if needed except for coolant that they charge $5 for. Not a problem. I find it odd because in most cities, I'm not sure I would give Rick's 5 stars. But in the cesspool that is Reno Automotive Services, Rick's stands out as the only shop where I did not feel like I was being ripped off. I've been too many auto places and I've felt like something wasn't quite right, or I was being nickel and dimed, but not until I moved to Reno did I ever absolutely feel like a place was ripping me off. This feeling did not come up at all while dealing with Rick (I'm looking at you Reno Vulcanizing). This is the first mechanic I've been to in Reno that has been willing to give me a "ballpark figure" before the service was done. And he did so without my asking and even said it with some hesitation as if also saying "Are you sure you want to do this? It's not cheap!" Other shops have not given me a figure at all, even if I say "If you give me number within $200 that's at least something" until they printed out their estimate and shove a pen in my hand (I'm looking at you Dolan Toyota). Rick gave me an absolute vibe of honesty which is more than I can say for the rest of Reno. The work on my car was completed to my satisfaction. The price was right at the estimate. I did not receive any calls during the service about "something else" they found (I'm looking at you Devine Automotive). Admittedly, the ambience is somewhat lacking, but in a way, it strikes me as a shop full of people that just enjoy working on cars. Is that cigarette smoke I smell? Probably. But my car works and service was priced as advertised. Maybe I just lucked out and I happened to get great service? I call this place a "Hidden Gem" in Reno for car care. Nate is one of the friendliest, coolest guys I've met. I feel very comfortable as a female going here and knowing that they will handle what needs to be done and not always add on extra work. They point things out to keep in mind and what to look out for in the near future, which I greatly appreciate. I had a Groupon for an oil change and come to find out, I had forgotten I did a Groupon oil change 4 years prior. Nate was kind enough to still honor the Groupon price. They replaced my rear brakes and this morning (12/3/2019) they replaced my front. They told me I'll need to replace my driving belt in the near future. My gf and I went to get an oil change and when we got our car back our windshield wiper was broken so we went in to just ask about it and the cashier was completely rude with us and tried his best to escalate the situation when it wasn't even a hostile situation. Then he tried to sell us new windshield wipers after they broke ours. I refuse to pay you for something you broke. This experience was horrible and I will never be returning. Fuck Ricks read more
