They were super professional and clean and took really good care of my car. They were very kind explaining the entire bill to me and open about helping me understand what had happened to my car. Made a very stressful situation just a little easier. My charger is important to me and I was glad that they were able to fix it. The sheet with the bill was very professional and clear, explaining exactly where each charge came from before totalling the numbers all up. "Service you can depend on" is a misnomer. I generally do all the work on my jeep but I needed a test done that I couldn't run in my garage. My jeep left with more problems than it arrived with and the shop wouldn't accept any responsibility. Customer service? Yeah right. I will say that Lewis was a decent guy though. Me and all my off road buddies will definitely be using different mechanics in the rare case that we actually find the need for one. read more

They almost received 3 stars for their customer service, but the bottom line is I dont like to feel like I'm being taken advantage of. My sister had her vehicle worked on here, so she recommended it to me. My dad's truck needed a new gas pump or something, im not too sure. He happened to be visiting that weekend and felt that they were trying to sell him more than he needed and said he did not want to put that much money into a 1989 vehicle... so apparently A Master Mechanic just did the baseline work. Truck is fine. Since we were satisfied, I took my Honda back there because it needed it's timing belt replaced, and after calling around, they were the ones that quoted me the least saying around $450-$550 depending on labor and such. Well after taking the vehicle in, they called back saying that actually it would cost more in the range of $775.00. I took it somewhere else and had it all done for under $550.00... so i wasn't happy about that. not sure how different mechanics come up with these prices... but whatever! The only thing that I was happy about was their customer service was friendly, and I always appreciate customer service. I believe it was Lewis we talked to, and after telling him we couldn't take it here because we only had a certain amount of money to spend on the vehicle at this point, he said that maybe the owner would allow the financing for the rest of the vehicle. I appreciated the sentiment... but luckily ,as mentioned above, i took the money i had and got it done elsewhere! read more

I will say that the owner knows what he is doing but he is expensive he will explain most problems to you probably more than you'd like. I think his rate is around $120. Reason I'm so bitter is he worked on my truck did a full brake overhaul on it. Cost was around $1k which after that you would think everything regarding the brakes would be taken care of. Well it wasn't about 6 months later my brakes were shot the master brake something or other was out. So I took it to him but when I got it back he wanted to charge me an hour of labor for something I just paid $1k for 6 months prior. Anyways I got out of there paying $50 and I just want to add that everytime I hear the commercial on the radio I have to turn it off its sooooooo annoying. read more

This was once a very good shop. I used them frequently and they had better prices than the dealer. Now, the dealer is cheaper and that makes this place useless to me. Plus, they are significantly more expensive than the dealer now. Another issue is, you make an appointment so you can have your car back in a respectable time. This doesn't matter. They always promise time hacks, and they ever made one. I been in six time, they never made one time hack. So, if you want to lose your car for the whole day for just a tune-up, or want to pay more than the already expensive dealer, go here. I use to recommend people to go here, not any longer. read more

These guys helped me out big time on our way back from BRC. Very cool guys, professional but personable. Full-service shop - I cooked my trans fluid hauling a trailer out, and they have the equipment to perform a full flush which not all shops can do properly. They went out of their way to get my truck in & out of the shop on the same day so we could get back on the road. Pretty reasonably priced for the caliber of work too. Highly recommended for any needed service going to or coming from BRC, we will be recommending them to all our local burners who need help in the area. They also do RV service. read more

I have been a customer at A Master for over ten years. I have always trusted their judgment and have recommended them to family and many friends. When my air conditioner quit working I took it in to be fixed. I explained that it wasn't blowing air from the vents. I also asked to check why the heater quit working on the right side and to do any repairs needed. I was told that I needed to replace the blower motor , resistor, pigtails, etc. When I went to pick up the car it was not working well. I called and explained that it was the same as when I originally dropped it off. Still no air coming through the vents. Fred told me to bring it back and they would take a look. Fred told me that it was working but they had put a smaller motor in it and that was why it didn't have the air flow that it once did and that I was being too picky. I said this isn't acceptable! I paid $990.44 for absolutely nothing and it needed to be fixed. They kept my car for six days, called me and told me they had done several different things and that it was as good as it was going to get. I took it to another mechanic and low and behold the the blower was spinning backwards. It was installed backwards by A Master. I called and spoke to Jeff and let him know that I wouldn't be coming back to his shop, due to the awful treatment. All Fred did is try to convince me of something I knew was a lie! I seriously doubt that the second time I took my car in that anything was done. All Jeff said is that I should have let him know sooner! My car was there for a total of eleven days! So almost $1,000 for nothing at A Master, then another $1,718.71 at American Auto Air to repair the poor job from A Master and actually fix the problem. You not only lost my business but both of my daughters and a few friends that I recommended will all be going somewhere else. read more

I have been a customer of Master Mechanic since moving to Reno in 2006. Up until last July I have nothing but the best service. The work on the vehicles was always the best and reasonable concerning the rates. BUT, something has radically changed. The rates have soared and some of the staff have changed. I thought that it was just a quirk caused by the move to Sparks but no. My daughter and her husband found that they were overcharged on the hourly rates with a lack of care that was always a part of the owner. Then a co-worker was recounting his experience there - it was horrible and over priced. He also was a long time customer. I will not refer anyone to the shop again. This is sad but a deserving reaction concerning the experiences of three different customers. read more

I'm very disappointed with the shop now , don't understand what happened to them . I was charged 700.00 for nothing, and my car is now in another repair shop . Cost me over a thousand dollars with rental car , and they lied to me and my extra warranty adjuster. Told me one thing and them another thing . Cost me to be denied 2 times on my claims . I'm a retired woman in my 60 s , and I'm so upset that they took advantage of me. I've spent well over 20,000 dollars in the past with them , and this is how they treat me . I was thrown off there lot , and ordered to get my car out of there when I went in to question why I was charged that much for nothing and lied to . My car could barely move , and they didn't care . Just get the f.... off there place . So I drove it in first gear , barely made it off there lot at 430 pm in heavy traffic . Please consider your options when looking for repair shop . They don't listen; they just find something expensive to repair and ignore the small, essential, easy and inexpensive to repair issues. After spending $3300 for a non-urgent repair, I broke down a week later (in a wind/rain/snow storm). What the car needed was an oil change, air filter, battery, and wipers at a total cost of $120 (labor included) elsewhere. They did not fix the headlight plug that is easily jarred loose; they just plugged it back in (as I told them I'd done numerous times), and they broke the wire to the plug, so it no longer worked even plugged in. How dare they send a single, old lady off in an unsafe car after depleting her savings and forcing her to borrow money. read more

Terrible experience with this shop. They kept doing repairs to my 65 GTO and saying it was fixed and it kept going back to the shop on a tow truck. They were friendly enough but not knowledgeable enough. We were 400 miles from home, so had to try to fix it. A totally unpleasant and expensive experience, plus they mounted the power steering line to close to a pulley and it got nicked on the trip home and the pump got hot. There have to be better mechanics than this in the Reno-Sparks area. read more

I bought a vehicle from this shop. It had a broken radiator with tons of cracks, concealed by some type of glue. It overheated and broke within 24 hours of owning it. I had to take it back the day after and pay for a new radiator. Whoever installed it didn't connect the hoses properly, so I had to return AGAIN to get that fixed. Never again will I return to this shop. read more

I went in with an oil leak and suggested it could be the oil plug or oil pan, I guess my words went unheard. $4000 later I still had an oil leak. Finally the oil pan was replaced at no cost, and what do you know.... the mysterious oil leak that caused weeks of headache was finally plugged. Ironically a belt and power steering pump pulley had been replaced as suggested maintenance. On the 5th visit when we picked up the car and got 10 minutes down the road the power steering went out. Once again we were charged for the replacement of the power steering pump pulley, in addition to a drivebelt tensioner assy. that burst into pieces. It wasn't until I started this review that I realized paying twice for the same part. I also discovered that parts I was charged over $471.00 for could be purchased for less the $80.00 from multiple suppliers. Of course you need to add Shop supply charges, labor and tax to arrive at that price. Do the math. The car is valued at less then $500.00, and I would never had gotten this deep in had I realized that one small oil leak would lead to five service calls and each time having to pay more to the point that I had reached the point of no return. In all fairness, some of the work that was done was to replace parts that due to normal wear and tear would in the near future have needed to have been replaced so I agreed to the work. The oil leak however, was the last thing that was fixed. I give them three stars because of a long relationship with A Master Mechanic, but warn all who read this to be ware of this happening to you. read more

A Master Mechanic charges for services and inspections not performed. I found them to be less than dependable and unethical. Their customer service and attitude is very poor. Many of the charges were fabricated and outrageously inflated. This type of service should not be subjected to the public. read more

Great experience!! Louis was very helpful, honest and courteous. Even the way he spoke to his staff was respectful. I just needed my carburetor and distributer tuned and he was able to squeeze me in same day even though they were short-handed. I had received a quote for some major work on my daughter's 1993 Ford Crown Vic from Deano's Automotive that was actually cheaper than A Master Mechanic. However, after meeting with LOUIS WESTON at A Master Mechanic, I decided to have the work done there. Louis was very deliberate & patient in diagnosing the problem and quoting me the cost. He states UPFRONT that A Master's labor charges were not the cheapest in town, & I appreciated that candor. And, unlike the bozo I dealt with at Deano's, I never once felt like I was putting Louis out or that he was irritated or disinterested in answering my questions. He actually brought the repairs in at approx $40 less than the estimate (still approx $60 more than Deano's), but I know should I have any further problems with this same issue, the problem(s) will be fixed swiftly and professionally. this is the worst car repair shop we have taken our car to. We had two major repairs done on our Subaru. The first one was a new timing belt. A couple of days after the job was completed, the car was used to transport kids to a field trip. The car completely overheated on the way up to Galena Creek. Master Mechanics were nice enough to tow it to the shop. They checked it out and stated it needed a head gasket replaced. We took it to another mechanic to get a second opinion. They stated that a radiator hose was completely loose and were surprised that it had not been noticed by Master Mechanics when they looked at the car, or initially when they repaired it because it is so obvious. That was why it overheated. The second auto shop did confirm it needed a head gasket replaced. We got that job done by Master Mechanic and later noticed that the car seemed to smoke a bit and smell slightly like smoke. We were told it was just residue. It continued for some time so we took it to another mechanic who stated our car was leaking in a few places that should have been taken care of by the head gasket job. We took it back to Master Mechanic and since it was under warranty, they had to fix it for free. It continued to smoke for the next few days. We took it to the second mechanic who stated that it looked like they had done nothing to fix the problem and it was still leaking in the same places. We took it back to Master Mechanic and asked them to fix it right. Another experience we had was that we had one price quoted to us for parts two different times we were in, and then the price changed later in the day to a higher price. We noticed this more clearly because when we were sitting there waiting for our car one of the times, the same thing happened to another customer. He was at the counter and stated that he was quoted one price over the phone and now he was being quoted a higher price for parts. I checked for complaints online, and here on Yelp a person stated it happened to them. We don't feel these guys can be trusted and our experience with them was very stressful and disappointing. I gave them one star because they were friendly. read more

We have had Jeff/ A MASTER MECHANIC work on our cars for almost 20 years. When we found him, and his excellent skills, it was one of our luckiest days in our lifes! We had run the gambit of poor to fair mechanics that were any where from incompetent to okay, always leaving us needing more. A MASTER MECHANIC has worked on my cars from the International Scout to our current car, a Lexus. Whether it is a regular oil change or a big repair, or a high milage check up (that we will soon need on our 2000 Jeep Cherokee Laredo) we have NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED!! The job is done right the first time. It is done on time. It is done within a very fair price range of the estimate. There have never been any unfair add ons. This is a shop that treats you fairly every time. I am a woman, and I don't feel talked down to or pushed aside, I am treated like I should be, a valuable customer that needs help keeping her vehicles running in good dependable condition.
