I highly recommend Alex and his team for moving. We recently had to move all our belongings into Pods and have them stored away and then brought back to our new place a week later. Alex did both moves for us. His crew was fast, efficient and super friendly. They had no problem moving awkward heavy items up and down multiple levels and they always would update me if they had any issues or questions during the process. They had plenty of supplies on hand to make sure our items were packed and secured properly. The communication from the office and from the crew was quick and and kept me completely aware of when they were coming and how long things would take. They would do walk throughs at the beginning and end of each move to make sure all was up to our liking. Our Realtor recommended A-Ray's and as they have a location near to the Lower Queen Anne Apartment we were moving out of it seemed like a good idea. I reached out via the website explaining what we needed and when as per the very clear online form, and Alex called me within the hour to tell me his recommendations for the service we needed and to book it in. I had asked about boxes and Alex came to the apartment that very afternoon to deliver a selection of packing materials, all of which made my job a lot easier. On the day Alex called early to check all was OK, and as we said we were ready he and his team came straight away. All three were polite, friendly and worked really hard from the moment they arrived. The job was not without adversity as we were six floors up and the elevator key didn't show up as promised by our landlord but they didn't complain at all and made an easy job of packing all our worldly possessions into the truck. Our new place is a house so no more elevator trouble but some different challenges with various bits of staircase and some awkward turns to navigate but Alex and his team worked carefully but quickly to get everything to its right place without a scuff or scratch on anything. Hopefully that's us done with moving for a while but if we need help again I wouldn't hesitate to call A-Ray's and would heartily recommend them to anyone else moving to, from or within the Seattle area. read more

I have to be honest - when I booked A-Ray's, after receiving in-home estimates from six different moving companies, I was certain Alex's estimate was wrong. I told my husband and my in-laws "they quoted 5-6 hours but it's going to really take 7-8; that's what EVERYONE else quoted." Behold my shock when, a little over 5 hours after they started, everything was done. Done! And that included 20 minutes of them doing everything humanly possible to fit our couch down a staircase that turned out to simply be too small for it. I have never seen humans move so fast carrying so much stuff. No damage to anything, including our awkward/bulky/fragile items. Seriously I can't get over what a good choice it was to pick A-Rays; we could have paid double if we had gone with the first quotes we got. We finally bought a house after renting the same duplex for six years. A couple friends had recently used A-Ray's for their own moves and raved about them. Alex came over for to give an estimate and schedule everything. Day of they arrived early and knocked everything out as quoted. At the new house they helped take a door off the hinges to get our grill on the deck and even rearranged all the bedroom furniture at the end when we decided we wanted things moved. We were referred to A-Rays by a co-worker and are so happy to have found them. Initially we hired them to move our stuff out of a 3 story house into pods. We were so happy with the work that we ended up rehiring them a week later to help us unload into our new place. I was especially impressed by how friendly and professional this crew is. If they have a question or a doubt, they do not hesitate to ask you. They take a lot of care with your things. You can really tell they are good people who want to do a quality job, and make sure everything meets your expectations. I used a-rays since it got such great reviews and had a competitive price. However, I was extremely disappointed and unhappy with their service. First of all they charge by the hour, and they definitely took advantage of The fact; I didn't know people could take so many smoking breaks. I know it's hard work which I why I chose to have help, but seriously I'm not paying them to smoke! They lost the elevator key, which then I had to pay for. Somehow a box of old wine bottles I had ended up not making it to my drop off location. I know during a move at least one thing is bound to get lost, broken, scratched or what have you. But several items wound up getting scuffed. The worst part of this whole move was that Alex (the owner) put on a smile and sweet talk, but I literally overheard him call me a bitch to one of the other guys. I don't know if my experience was just a fluke or what. I would take a look at some other options so you don't also end up being The ones on their "bad day". read more

I normally do not write reviews, however my experience with A-Ray's was so bad I have to share - I would hate for someone to go through the same experience I did. I wound up with damage to several pieces of furniture, and my phone calls and emails have gone without response by Alex (owner) except for one (coincidentally, the one time he did answer was the one time I called from a Seattle area code and not my recognizable non-Seattle number). During this call he offered to refund my move, and told me to anticipate a check within 2-3 days; this would have been a sufficient resolution except for the fact that it has been over a week, I have still not seen this check, and once again I have yet to see any reply on my several emails and phone calls. Here is a list of all of the issues I had with this company - it's almost comical: Apparently there was no communication to the two movers that they were also going to pack my items; they showed up and were unaware of this fact. Once they did find out, they seemed to be more concerned with putting my items in boxes as fast as possible as opposed to with any sort of care. There were several blades from my food processors that were thrown into boxes without any sort of wrapping that I could have easily cut myself on if I was not paying attention while unpacking; my nonstick grill was put in a box with other metal items that it scratched up against and removed some of the nonstick coating; and my ceramic butter dish was thrown into a box with other kitchen items not only without any sort of paper wrapping, but with the butter in it. There was little care shown when my items were packed into and unpacked from the truck. When we arrived at my new apartment I saw that several of my items were in the truck without any protection, while a pile of moving blankets sat in a corner - the use of these could have easily prevented the damage to my tv stand. Again, while they were moving my items out of the truck they were more concerned with speed than quality. Unfortunately there was a miscommunication with the elevator reservation at my new apartment and it was not held for us, so I had to stay and hold the door open while they took items into my apartment and didn't get to see how things were being placed in the apartment. There was absolutely no rhyme or reason to any of it - my bookshelf was in the kitchen, the two pieces of my sofa were in separate areas...I did not expect them to arrange my living room for me, but organizing these pieces was like trying to figure out a giant rubix cube. I have never known movers that did not at least ask for general direction on where things should go, or at least used a bit of common sense. They did not move any of my glass or ceramic kitchenware - looking back I'm grateful for this; based on the way they treated my other items I am pretty sure none of it would have made it in one piece, but I also wasn't expecting nor did I pay for a partial move, and that's what wound up happening since I had to go back and get these items later. There was a picture frame that was not packed and fell and broke off of a rack while being unloaded from the truck. At one point while we were riding up the elevator one of the movers took a small break by using my tv stand as his foot rest. It was like someone coming into your house and kicking their shoes up on your coffee table - absolutely disrespectful of my belongings. When my bed frame was moved into the apartment it did not fit in the elevator. Every aspect of this was a disaster - one of the movers was more focused on showing that he could lift the frame by himself when we decided to try moving it up the stairs, almost in a showing off manner, and proceeded to slam the back of it into a concrete planter twice in the process. When it was determined that it would also not fit in the stairs and we would have to take it apart, your movers did not have any tools and I had to go back to my old apartment to get my toolbox that was left behind. Despite the fact that we knew it wouldn't fit in the elevator and I told them not to try because I didn't want it to get damaged, one of the movers (the same one that was too macho to ask for help in carrying it and slammed it into concrete) kept saying he bet he could get it to fit in the elevator; sure enough, when I got back that's exactly what they were STILL trying to do. The only thing I can say about this is that I'm shocked there was not more damage done with this lack of care and consideration. Once the bed frame did make it into the apartment, they reassembled it to the headboard - with my dresser wedged between it and the wall...genius move. I know the price may make A-Ray's sound like a great deal, and I know there are a lot of 5-star reviews on here for this company; but if you value your furniture I would think twice on whether the bargain is worth the risk. read more

My parents were in town to help me move apartments last weekend. When my mom - a petite Asian woman - saw Alex, her first words were, "You're so short! How can you be a mover?" By the end of the move, though - after she had seen Alex singlehandedly move my old 27" TV, as well as everything else I own - she was saying, "I can't believe how strong you are!" It was a pleasure getting moved by Alex and his company. He and his associate were cheerful, prompt and very efficient - I never saw them appear to slow down on the job. They took less than four hours to move my very full one-bedroom apartment, a task that I estimate would have taken me and several friends a whole day to do. Everything arrived intact and nothing was damaged. Best of all, the bill came out to less than I expected, and less than I remember paying for my previous in-city moves - even though I own more items now than the last time I moved. I was very happy with A-Ray's Moving Solutions - I wholeheartedly recommend them and I won't hesitate to use them again the next time I move. They did a terrific job for me, and as other posters have noted here, their rates also happen to be lower than any other moving company I have been able to find in Seattle. read more

***DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY***! I made the huge mistake of hiring this company in July and am incredibly disappointed. I even waited 3 weeks to cool off before writing this review so that I was speaking factually and not out of emotion. I reached out to this company the first week of July to get a quote and discuss my move. I was only moving from 1st Hill to the Harbor Steps Apartments, if you not familiar with the move it was literally 14 blocks. The person (Alex) I spoke with on the phone was nice, and gave me a quote. When I requested he email it to me so that I would have a written quote, he obliged. The nightmare didn't begin until the 2 men showed up to help move my 1 bedroom apartment. I say "help" because everything was already boxed, broken down and staged. Anyways, as we began to load the truck, I noticed that 1 of the 2 guys continued to disappear for 5 - 10 minutes at a time. I asked his colleague where he went he told me he was in the truck, then we went to the truck he wasn't there. He then said he must be upstairs, however when we got upstairs he wasn't there. He showed up 15 minutes later and when asked where he was he said moving the dresser... but we had already put the dresser in the truck. After the truck was loaded with the exception of 2 boxes, I asked the 2 guys if they knew where the Harbor Steps were, they assured me they did and that they "move people in there all the time." I left to get the keys, and secure the key for the elevator so that everything was ready to go when they got there. AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER 2 blood-shot eyed guys FINALLY show up. One of them reeked like marijuana and was clearly high. I'm not against smoking pot but when you are moving my apartment and take that much time to do so I get a little upset. During this time I had made 8 calls to them that all went unanswered. When I asked what happened the driver told me that "my GPS must be all busted." When I asked about him about all the people he had moved into Harbor Steps, he replied "we have to use the GPS." When I asked what he was going to make the situation right, he said he couldn't do anything because "we was on the clock." On top of all of this I had a microwave and box that never got delivered. I don't have the highest expectations of movers but please do yourself a favor AND DO NOT USE THESE CROOKS! There is no reason you should be CONNED like me.! read more

The moving company we originally scheduled, Strong Men Moving, didn't show up. We had called Friday to confirm and everything, but then they just never showed up, never called. After an hour of trying to contact them, I gave up and began frantically searched the internet in the hopes we could find someone last-minute to help us. Alex and Jeff were at our place a little over an hour after we called them. They were just finishing up a job and then they headed over to help us. They were great. Everything else about my move was a nightmare and if it hadn't been for A-Ray's I probably would have been a mess. Alex and Billy did a great job at a very affordable rate. We moved on what could have been the worst possible day or I should say the worst possible conditions to move in. Nov 22nd 2010 ie Seattle's snow day. They showed up just after 8 am and set to work on our 1 BR and 2 garage apt. They informed us we could help as much or as little as we wanted but as Alex put it "it's our money" so we were able to make short work of the packing ~ 3 1/2 hours. Alex was a pro when it came it utilizing the space in his truck, we got everything from our apt and garage(s) into the truck as well as my motorcycle which I wasn't even planning on moving in the truck until he recommend it. This was a life saver due to the weather. With all of our belongings packed we also made a stop to pick up a new full size couch and recliner from the furniture store and it all fit saving us delivery cost. On top of that my car had a slow leak in one of the tires that Alex noticed while loading boxes from our garage and he offered free of charge a can of "fix a flat" from his truck. Again this would have been a nightmare had he not informed me and been so generous with his can. For one my car was packed so getting to the spare wouldn't been a struggle, two all the tire stores were out of control due to the weather, and three we had about 10 hours of driving ahead of us on snowy icy roads which on a donut spare tire would not have been ideal. They did just as good of a job unloading at our new place and only damaged one small corner of our dresser which he reimbursed us for on the final bill. Overall from Seattle to Tacoma on one of the worst days of the year to be on the road it took them 11 hours to move all of the goods from a second floor apt to a 6th floor apt without any major damage. He they were very professional and made the effort to make the move as smoothly as possible. I was also comfortable leaving them with my wife while I went back to clean up and check out of our old apartment. Last but not least his rate was about $30 less/hour than anyone else I checked with. read more

Alex and his crew were excellent! They came on short notice and made a very difficult situation much less stressful. My mom needed to be moved to an assisted living facility after an extended stay in a rehab center. When she was ready for discharge I had to quickly find and furnish her a new place! Thank goodness A-Ray's was able to move her most needed things quickly and efficiently. She was amazed to come home to her new apartment full of her familiar things. read more

This is like a 2.5 move- these guys were nice but s-l-o-w. Not the fastest movers. A lamp was broken, but even my best movers have had a bad day. I had to move from a storage unit to an apartment; couches didn't fit so they did take them to a storage unit for me. I wish I had taken them back to the original storage unit instead, but was already clocking in at close to 4 1/2 hours for a 1 bedroom apartment move. I don't know if I would use them again; jury is still out. My last movers were so bad though that it made these guys look like rock stars. My favorite moving company still blows them way out of the water though in customer service and care of moving. read more

I used A Rays Moving Solutions a few weeks ago to move, I had Howard and Kelly as a crew and everything went pretty smooth. They only took about 3 and a half hours to move everything and were nice and efficient. The only issue I have and the reason I gave 3 stars instead of 5 is because I specifically asked them to wrap and protect my large screen tv and they assured me they would, but they didn't and my tv had smudges and dirt on it by the time it reached my new apartment. Same issue with my king size bed. I asked them to wrap it and protect it, they assured me they would and they did not. My kind size bed is very heavy and had no sheet or protection on it so while they were carrying it inside Kelly lost his grip and it dropped to the ground and got dirty. Overall I think I would use them again because the price was great and they did everything very quick. I would just appreciate better care for my things as I worked hard for what I have. **UPDATE** Going from a 3 star to a 1 star. Just used A-Rays to move again. Like I said in my previous review the price was great last time...this time I feel like I've been overcharged. I reached out for a quote and upon giving them a very honest and through list of the items I needed moved I was told I needed a 2 man crew for $135 and hour and I should estimate for around 3-4 hours for my move. I thought that was great my move will go quickly and I won't have to pay an arm and a leg...I was wrong. This move took 6 hours to complete and I was charged over $900! This leaves me upset because I don't think the crew they sent worked as hard as the previous crew. I think at some points they took their sweet time and that's why the move took so long. I also would like to note that I am a person that appreciates transparency more than anything, so when I saw that my bed cover had been ripped and it was covered in some sort of dirt I was upset, also I have a couch that can be taken apart into many pieces, it comes with connecting handles and 2 of them were lost inside the couch pieces. Had the guys told me about it, I wouldn't have minded, but they said nothing and it sent me on a wild goose chase for almost an hour looking for my connecting handles to put my couch together. Then when I finally noticed that one was stuck inside the couch I was furious because they could have told me. Overall I just feel like I was overcharged for a crew that took their time and failed to tell me about a couple small mishaps. I don't think I'll be using A-Rays again and don't recommend them. read more

Wow, these guys were awesome! We moved from Seattle to Mill Creek and it couldn't have gone off any smoother. They were punctual, very careful with our stuff and packed the truck like tetris masters! Unloading was super fast and they were totally patient with me as I decided where have everything placed. These guys were very professional yet had very easy going personalities that made them especially pleasant to work with. I was a bit skeptical originally when I hired A-Ray's to do our move from Eastlake down to Columbia City. I had never hired movers before so I wasn't sure if we were getting ripped off, or if they would take as much time as they wanted since they knew they were on the clock. HOW I WAS WRONG!!!! First of all, Thomas & Joe (our movers) were some of the nicest guys I have ever met. They moved quickly and efficiently, hardly stopped moving and when they did it was only to be careful with our fragile things (thank you Thomas & Joe!) I can't recommend A-Ray's enough. With my latest move, I finally decided to plunk down for the grown up option of paying for people to schlep my stuff rather than try to bribe my friends to do it. After some research, I went with A-Ray's on a little leap of faith based on the reviews I found here, and I'm glad I did. As part of shopping around, the consensus seemed to be my move was going to take in the 3 hr range; I figured, don't be surprised if it takes 4. A couple emails back and forth with Alex was all it took to get scheduled. The day of the move, the 2-man crew showed up right on time. They were really personable and had a great attitude. I was a little concerned I had an excessive amount of stuff - my girlfriend having given me a little grief about all the boxes stacked in my old place. They said, "what, are you kidding? This is easy, you're just really organized". They began loading the truck as I finished boxing up the last few things. Then, just as they were almost done loading the truck, the snow started. 6 hours earlier than any forecasts had predicted. I headed out for my new apartment while I still could, since my car isn't worth a damn in the snow. The truck showed up a few minutes later, and suddenly had to deal with a sloping parking lot that would be tough for them to get the truck out of, due to the snow. They weren't in a good position to get the ramp out, and I decided to pitch in on unloading the truck. So, unloading took a little longer than expected and my total move time wound up being 4 hrs. But the thing that impressed me was, these guys were really thrown a curve ball, but it didn't faze them, and they handled the suddenly-tough situation with professionalism and a great attitude. I was very happy with my experience with A-Ray's Moving. They were available on short notice and did a good job with our stuff. They took lots of care to make sure nothing was damaged, and I really appreciate that. The only reason that I took one star off was because they were REALLY late in getting to us because they had a customer in the morning that grossly underestimated how long their move would take. I got increasingly nervous as it got darker and darker, but Alex and his sidekick were happy to work in the pouring rain and dark of winter! A good attitude goes a long way! (So does a discount which he gave us for being late.) I would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone. read more

We were so impressed A-Ray's! They helped us move a few weeks ago and it made the day SO much easier to have the take care of the big furniture. They did everything we hoped they'd do, and more. And they're priced so reasonably that I think it was worth it just because they did less damage then we would have. Two examples: I volunteered to carry a headboard upstairs because they were busy with something else, and of course I dinged the wall. And a few weeks later I had a bookshelf delivered and the delivery guys scraped up the wall in a couple of places. But Alex and Dan made it all look easy, and were totally friendly and professional. I hope not to move anytime soon, but if I do I'll definitely go back to these guys. read more

A++ would move again!!! These guys were prompt, in fact they showed up a little early! They were very friendly, polite, and conversational. I had the equivalent of about a little less than a 1 bedroom apartment's worth of stuff and they moved it from an apartment complex to a townhouse, about 20 minutes apart, in about 3 hours including travel time. I paid cash and got a 5% discount. They consistently double checked where I wanted stuff and asked if there was anything else I needed. They were very careful with my stuff and nothing was broken or damaged in the process. I was really impressed with the small business attitude combined with the real professionalism they displayed. I will definitely call these guys again when I need to move some stuff! read more

This being my first move using movers, I didn't realize that I needed to book the move at least 2 weeks in advance. As I started calling around the Sunday before my Wednesday move, it seemed like everyone was booked up. Even A-Ray's had a voice mail message that they were full until a time after my move. I didn't leave a voice mail and started to move on to other options. About 30 minutes after I called, Alex called me back. I explained to him my situation and he said that even though they were really booked he would be happy to help and made me feel much better about my last minute planning. He picked a time on a Wednesday night that they could come over, making sure to go over all the details with me and making sure I was comfortable with everything including the time. When time came for the move I cannot say enough about how professional, helpful, and friendly Alex and his team were. It took only 3 hours to move out of my apartment and into my fiance's. I will definitely use A-Ray's for all of my future moves and think anyone else who is moving in the Seattle area should as well. They are absolutely awesome and you will not regret it!! read more

This review is roughly as snappy as a tranquilized manatee, but better late than never yadda yadda yadda. Back in November of last year, I moved from Seattle down to Culver City, California. Moving me was easy: I fit in a plane seat and can generally pay my way. My stuff, though, including one hyperactive cat, proved a more difficult task. I looked up a few of the googlable options, but each had their pitfalls: I was too lazy to U-Haul my stuff myself, I didn't trust PODS, and other options were insanely pricey. So I turned to you, dear Yelp, and found A-Ray's. I called up, spoke briefly to Alex, who warned me that I'd be better off going with one of the big guys, because he might be too expensive. I asked him for a quote, and the one he gave was actually pretty decent - a little more than PODS, but it was a completely different service. What's more, Alex (who runs the company) said he'd likely drive the moving truck himself. He seemed like a decent guy, so i bit the bullet, and agreed to the quote. Fast forward a few days. I meet Alex with Budget truck at my old apartment, and we go about packing up my stuff and loading up the truck. We chat. It's quickly apparent that he's a stand-up guy and we make plans to meet up in LA in a couple of days. I offer him my new place as a place to crash, and then off he goes, drifting off south with most of my worldly possessions. Two days later I meet him in LA. He's exhausted, but we go about unpacking before he crashes for a few hours. He's flying back the next day, so I invite him out for dinner with my new roommate and the girl I'm dating. Basically, the night is hilarious, and Alex quickly veers in "good pal" territory. This is far too leggy a review - sorry. Basically, I can't rate these guys highly enough. I was hopeful that my stuff would come in roughly the same shape I packed it in - it did - but I never thought I'd actually end up befriending the dude. If I ever move back up to Seattle, I know exactly who I'm calling first. You should, too. read more

This is a belated review as we used A-Ray's last year when we moved and we'll be using them again in a couple months. The crew was great! They showed up early, were super communicative and friendly, took great care of our stuff, and even finished an hour ahead of schedule. I have to give these guys an AMAZING five stars. We needed movers same day to move some furniture from a house into a showroom for an opening we were doing at our design center and they were awesome. We hired A-Rays for our move from a Seattle townhouse to the suburbs. They were fantastic! Flexible when we needed to reschedule our move 3 times, incredibly nice and hard working movers, and patient with our disorganized packing. I had hurt my back a couple days before the move and was useless, leaving my husband responsible for everything - which was too much for one person to handle. The movers (AJ, Mark, and Thomas) loved on our dog, joked with our kids, ( AJ even played water balloons with them when the truck was empty) and were generally awesome. These guys are very good. I've used movers many times in the past, including super expensive international movers, and A Rays is without a doubt my best moving experience. I got a team of three and they crushed it. I moved from a very large 2-story apartment in Capitol Hill to a house in Madison Park with a ton of stairs. My stuff was packed professionally and quickly and arrived in similar fashion. The team had no qualms taking things up these super narrow stairs. And the thing is - moving isn't just about being able to lift heavy things. It's knowing how to do it in a way that's efficient and makes the most sense. This wasn't three meat heads in college, these were pros. It was in February so I've forgotten their names, but one guy told me he was 40 and I was stunned. The other guy was younger and probably deadlifts garbage trucks. I will absolutely use A-ray again. read more

I'm the first to admit that I'm a bit of a control freak. There are only three things I care about when moving. 1) No furniture damage 2) Done in a reasonable amount of time and 3) Pleasant to work with. A-Ray's Moving Solutions followed through on all three requirements. It was pouring down rain on the day of our move, but Alex and Damien didn't complain once and had a great sense of humor about it all. As for the furniture, it got to our new house without a scratch (and you can be sure I inspected it). They even wiped off the rain droplets and made sure they didn't track any mud onto our white carpets. I really hope I don't have to move any time soon; but if I do, I'll definitely call them again. read more
