The server was very pushy, tried to push only the most expensive items, and shrugged off any affordable options. The fried whole fish was quite good, everything else was just ok. Worst part of the visit was when we told him the spring rolls were cold (we ordered 3 portions). His response to hearing the spring rolls were cold was to grab them off the plates with his bare hands and said "ok I'll try fry them again.". That's exactly what he did, he returned the exact same spring rolls, with the bites out of them refried. We spent over $400 on a dinner for 9 people and I wish we went out for pizza instead. read more

Totally disappointing. I literally felt like someone picked my pocket when I received the bill. The food was so untasty that our tongues were bored with our 2 entrees and appetizer. Not one moment of happy tongue- which is such a sad affair. Service was strange. Atmosphere was nice except for the loud nearby diners. I got lured by the recent positive reviews. Now that I look more carefully I see that there are 118 5-stars vs 29 1-stars. No true 5-star place has such a large amount of 1-star reviews. I think the 4-star average being given by Yelp is deceptive. When 100 people out of 300 reviewers, that is 1/3 of reviewers, rate it between 1-3 stars, then it should certainly not be a 4-star average. Decided to try this place out for a party of 6, we called to make reservations. The restaurant is updated and spacious inside. Service was fast. We ordered quite a few different plates to share. The calamari was okay, but it had a very funky smell not very appetizing. The beef was very soft in not a very pleasant way. We all enjoyed the fish which was very good, but we were told it came without bones, which we wouldn't of ordered if we knew. Overall I wouldn't return, very thankful they were open to dine in, but the meal for me personally wasn't worth it. read more

Have been here a few times and the food is just ok. Our boisterous waiter can be a bit much with his off color jokes. I asked for for chanh muoi which I have had before here. He quickly said "oh no we don't have this" I said ok Our bill came and we had separate check which we asked for. The cashier charged my card for everyone's accidentally. While we were fixing that mistake I looked on the counter. Lo and behold there are 2 large jars of chanh muoi. I confirmed it with the bartender that it was chanh muoi. I asked the waiter why he said there was no chanh muoi and he said "that's not chanh muoi". I confirmed it with the bartender in front of him and he waiter threw his hands up and said "oh well" As I turned to walk out he said "you know why I told you we don't have is because I don't know how to make it". Found A Siagon Cafe on Yelp as we were returning from a long day on the Road to Hana. Was greeted by a gentleman who was not only friendly but funny. He made being a visitor to an obvious local place comfortable. The food was authentic and delicious. We started with the fried spring rolls they were very fresh and cooked to perfection. I ordered the shrimp and chicken clay pot, the flavor was perfect and the fresh veggies were awesome. My husband ordered the "Vietnamese burritos", the rice cakes aren't cooked served with steaming hot water to prepared each one as your ready. We have visited A Saigon Cafe once every few years for about 20 years. It seems like the quality has gone down and the prices have gone up. Our most recent visit, the pho was mediocre at best. For $15 per bowl, they can afford to add a few more pieces of thinly sliced beef. The broth lacks the depth that defines a good pho. A bit hard to find, but definitely worth the effort! Seems to be a fairly extensive menu, though I wouldn't know because we ordered the same thing both times we came here during my recent stay on Maui. First of all, I have to mention the main guy who works here. I never did catch his name, but I'm pretty sure he wants to be a comedian for his next career. The entire meal he joked around with us, so as long as you play along it's good fun. Some of the other servers I think are trying to learn from him, so they all have a slightly odd sense of humor, but I thought they added to the fun. They have a Thai beer called Chang that was pretty good, though we gave him a hard time about not having an Vietnamese beer. As an appetizer we had the Shrimp Wontons, which were better than the ones at Mama's, and probably a quarter the price. Both times we came here we had the whole fresh Opakapaka. It was lightly fried, cooked perfectly, and was drenched in the most delicious black bean sauce I have ever had! (The black bean is not on the menu, it says sweet and sour, but if you ask he'll do it.) The dish comes with some broccoli and carrots on the side, and with a bowl of rice you have a complete meal. The fish is priced by weight, and the two times we had it the cost was $45 and $50. For feeding two or three people I think this is a pretty good deal, especially for Maui prices! My vegetarian sister was able to find things to eat as well, they had a whole section of the menu she could choose from. Came here years ago and had great memories...returned today. Place is really rundown and there were flies inside. The food was just okay. Got a stir-fry noodle dish with vegetables. The noodles were a gluey mess making the pricey dish impossible to eat. Topping it off, the waiters yelled at each other constantly and walked around barking "Everything okay?" At the patrons. Best pho in Kahului/Wailuku area IMO! Then again, it's not like there's many choices... I haven't tried enough or frequently enough from Kihei or Lahaina to have an opinion on the whole island's pho, but I enjoy this one the best as for what's in Kahului and Wailuku. My husband also enjoyed their steak, and their calamari isn't what I'm used to (Greeks do it best) but it was decent too. Husband and I agreed that especially since they haven't really changed their prices, and since I enjoy their pho a lot more than where I've been going to more often previously, that this will be my new go-to for pho. The broth is so tasty and it's always hot. Portions are small for the price, as I'm used to a "regular" and "large" option for $8-10 CAD where I'm from, but I understand that this is Maui, and options are limited and prices are higher in Hawaii. I wish that the bowl for pho was a bit bigger because I do feel like it's double the price of a regular size back home for me, but I'll take what I can get for good pho here in Maui. My husband and I drove in circles trying to find this place! It's super hidden and it's located kinda at the crack of when an overpass starts to slope downwards and merges into another street. If you blink, you'll miss their sign. Definitely worth it, once you've found it. The staff is hilarious! Their customer service and attentiveness deserves 5 stars! The server came to Maui to get away from the LA lifestyle, vowed to stay only 6yrs max, and said his biggest mistake was bringing his wife with him b/c now, she doesn't ever want to leave the beautiful island. Oh, and she works there, too! We were looking for a place to eat our last real meal on our last day in Maui so we decided to go here, based on Yelp reviews. We ordered the chicken wings appetizer...scrumptious, and two entrees. I forgot the names of the dishes, but I attached the pictures. He convinced us to get a fresh coconut and of course, we had beer, too. The total for everything was about $60, not bad considering we got quite a few items. First of all this place was tough to find! I do not think they have any signage other then the apartment in the same lot is also called something Saigon. Parking was extremely limited and available spaces were very tight. We got here around 5:30pm and lot and all surround spaces were taken. Restaurant was fairly busy which was a good sign though. Another thing to mention is this place is far away for the tourist area which is something else to keep in mind. Now to the food, we ordered the Choy Sum (Chinese veggies stir fried), Cat Fish Clay pot, and Vietnamese Steak. All were large portions. Veggies were good, steak was well seasoned but a little too well done. Cat Fish was good but I was expecting pieces of fish mixed into fried rice, which was the rice clay pot. We ordered the wrong one. Fish was still good but it was like fish steaks with bones/skin. A lot of people had the pho and various soups. They looked really good. We liked our server who had quite a variety of comedic lines. I asked him his name and he said "Robert Smith." I wish I had replied that my name was DIen Bien Phu, but I wasn't as quick as he was. It was a fun experience eating here and we were especially proud that we were able to actually find the place, as one needs to take a bit of a tricky route to actually get there off the main highway. The food was kind of a disappointment. First of all, they were out of the Thai iced tea and the fresh squeezed lemonade. The garden party shrimp came out first and it was probably the best dish we had. The ground shrimp around a cane stick was unique, but not wonderful in flavor. Appetizers we got were the spring rolls and the summer rolls that were delicious! The main dishes were decent but I've tasted better flavors elsewhere. We got a beef dish that was very tender and the pork chops are thicker than traditional Vietnamese (different taste too). Parking is small and can be hard to find. I was craving some noodles and found this cafe not too far from where we live in Kahului. I don't know too many Vietnamese dishes besides Pho so that's what I usually get and this time I'm glad I did because it satisfied my craving! The vegetables tasted very fresh and I actually ate all the soup which I don't usually do, but it was so good! My boyfriend had the grilled pork meatballs with noodles and he loved it so we're both happy. Next time I'm going to try their clay pot dish. read more

Okay this is one of the undiscovered gems in Maui. First your going to a local only neighborhood. Word of caution..this place is hard to find and your nav system or iphone wont do the job, get written directions from your hotel bell hop. These guys may act surprised that you have ven heard of it, but they will get you the inside knowledge you will need t find it. The owner is a riot and well bust your balls for not drinking. The food is served lightening fast and I mean fast, but fresh. I don't know how they do that. I had the special which was steamed mahi mahi and I have to tell you one of the best fish meals I had on the island. Everyhting was great. Its not the Ritz as far as decor goes but if your wallet and pallet need a break from the rich food you have been consuming this little joy in Wailuku is worth the trip. read more

As we tried to order, his joking around confused our guests and he did not hear our order correctly. He especially picked on the vegans and didn't let us order what we wanted, and how we wanted it. It was my first time here and I chose this place for my boyfriend & I to celebrate our one year together. The restaurant is beautiful but it was kinda confusing on how to get there, plus the parking is really small. We got seated quickly and the food came fast as well. We ordered duck noodle soup(I don't really like duck but I actually recommend this), baked chicken family style(highly recommend), calamari, and sweet and sour pork. The food was really good and I expected it to be because of the yelp reviews I've read before going to this place. For drinks I got a jasmine iced tea(I LOVE IT) and my boyfriend got the vietnamese coffee, he said it was good. The waiters were nice but they werent those typical friendly waiters.
