I drive through Rolla once a month and this spot has been on my list for sometime. This place comes highly recommended by my nephew who attends MO S&T. The space is reminiscent of grandma's kitchen. The counter is full of delicious homemade pies. The menu offers just about any pie your heart could possibly desire. I went with the classic apple crumb. This one will rank up high on my list of favorites. We added a slice of peach pie and a slice of coconut cream pie to round out the experience. The crust is flaky and tender. Fruit pies a filled with fruit and the cream pie was rich and creamy. The proprietor was very kind and helpful in making recommendations. Please note: you will definitely get what you pay for. For years, I've been a huge fan of Slice of Pie. But.....the somewhat newer owners, are not keeping up the past quality operations of the past: - slices pies are $9....and no half slices available. Whole pies at $45. Gee, that's sure enough isn't it? - The day was a 90 degree day....and it was easily over 80 degrees in the place. We were told by staff "The owner doesn't let us turn t down any lower". What? The temp was ridiculous. The pie (still) tasted good on the day. So, that's a plus. Four of my friends and I stopped at "A Slice of Pie" for lunch on our way to Kimmswick for the Christmas Cookie Walk. I had eaten there with my daughter, about ten years ago, which is WAY too long. I used to buy their 'Take and Bake' Pies at Harter House, but my local store no longer carries them. They've always been good. Why did it take me so long to come back? I'm usually traveling with my husband and he prefers BBQ or a burger when we're traveling. I'm glad I mentioned it Saturday, when we were looking for a place to eat lunch! We all loved it so much that we ate there again the next day, on our way home. Between us, we tried both kinds of Chicken Pot Pie (Traditional and Mushroom), the Chicken Salad on Croissant, the Tomato Soup, and the Bacon Quiche. Each entree was served with two hot rolls. I didn't have room for the rolls, but those who did said they were good. Dessert? You may have to take it with you, but they're packaged well. The quiche reheats well in the microwave. Those who tried it said it was the best quiche ever, and ordered it again the second day, so I took a piece home to try. I haven't tried my Cherry Raspberry yet, but the others said the Coconut Cream (whipped cream) and Custard were wonderful. I did try one of his cinnamon/sugar pie crust cookies. They tasted just like my mama used to make. He said he's planning to sell those at the Harter House Stores in the Springfield area, so I'll be looking for them. He's also bringing a truck to Harter House in Springfield on Eastgate, occasionally, so I'll be watching their Facebook Page so I can buy a piece of pie without going to Rolla. A very well establishment when it seemed like it was being operated by one person the night I went, And there was a lot of people there, seemed like it was the choice very of a church young adults group. Well, after being spoiled by the world famous Chicken Pie Sjop in San Diego for over 50 years, didn't expect an equal battle. But, for the chicken Pie and biscuits, Slice of Pie puts up a very good fight. The crust was light and fluffy and chicken filling was excellent. The biscuits was very good. I loved this place as a student. Swung back in with my wife after talking it up the whole drive. For years I loved the pie, but today they informed me they now only take cash or check.... But they now have a new ATM to help anyone who needs it. The Chinese ATM has a minimum $3.00 charge to your card (increments of $20). We cut the order in half and made them put it back after the frustration. I still wanted my wife to taste it so unfortunately we didn't walk out. I won't be coming again. I'm certain this is to target the students who don't carry cash and they will make $3 on every single one of them. Heard so much about this place. Was excited to try it. Haven't had Boston Cream Pie forever and thought with their reputation it would be especially good. However, it was not. The chocolate topping was hard and seemed to have been frozen. The best part of BCP is usually the custard. There was no custard. It was tasteless whip cream. The cake portion was also tasteless. When I mentioned to the young lady cashiering that this was not BCP, she said "this is our BCP". However, the picture on their website of BCP (see below) does not look like the BCP I was served. I am extremely disappointed in this company. I would give it a 0 rating but Yelp requires a higher rating score. Backstory: It was my son in law's birthday and all he wanted was a Strawberry Rhubarb pie from A Slice of Pie in St. Robert. I called them but no one answered or not even a voicemail or anything saying that they were "Closed ". I decided to drive over thinking that they possibly busy that's why they didn't answer the phone. Nope, a paper sign saying "Temporarily Closed". My daughter and I called the Rolla store to verify that they had the pie in stock as it was a good distance to drive for a pie. When we arrived we found out that they didn't accept cards of any type only cash or check, there was ATM there they charged three dollars for one transaction plus our bank charges three dollars for using ATM out of network. We purchased the strawberry rhubarb pie from the girl behind the counter who must have been extremely new because she did not know which pie was, which and had to ask for help from the lady in the back. Needless to say, we got the pie and took it home to celebrate my son-in-law's birthday that evening cut into the pie and found mold inside the crust! Mind you we had eaten half the pie as there was six people there to help celebrate the birthday. My daughter called the store and explained that the pie had Mold and was obviously upset and the girl said that she would call the manager as she didn't know what she was supposed to do in the situation and she would call her back. The girl called back and to our surprise they said no refunds, only a gift card or a new pie. My son-in-law brought the pie back to the store the next day and they were only going to give him half a pie because they "assumed" that he had purchased only a half of of pie then he explained that we had eaten half of the pie the previous night and that's when we discovered the mold in my granddaughter's piece of pie. Pecans usually rise as this bakes and you expect a bed of the nuts atop a set layer of sweet caramely goodness. Also like that you can order samplers and you can decide which pies to try. The cons - the price.... $50 for the small sampler. The whole pie is $30. the other con, the long wait to get your order. It takes some time to get your order, if you do come, make sure you give yourself plenty of time. Their pies were good, but to be honest, the only "wow factor" I got was from their Lemon Meringue pie. I would definitely get this again, however their other pies were good, no "wow" factor. Such a great little hidden gem in the heart of Rolla, MO. Needed something new to eat so I got on Yelp and started exploring. I can across this place and the menu was small but what they had sounded delicious. So my wife and I hopped in the car and drove the 30 mins to check it out. Kinda hard to find and extremely limited parking. They also only take check or cash which I hate. Besides the above mentioned items this place was great. It's a cute little place with a intimate feel to it. Nice selection of quiches, soup, pies and salads along with very generous portion sizes. It's a small place in a somewhat small town, that provides small town service with a smile. The two ladies working inside were wonderful. Very friendly which always adds to the experience.
