My guy bestie, Steve, invited me to join him and his best friend George, to breakfast. He said it was some spot on Melrose. I gladly accepted because I haven't gone out to eat in that area forever! Steve and I cruised down Melrose and pulled into a small parking lot that shared its parking with a liquor store. Presumably, I thought it would be in the trendier Westside of Melrose, but it was just about a block west of Harvard Blvd. so I was already ehhh, sketch! It was about 8:45 so I grabbed my lotto tickets from the store. We were the first customers that were there. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining. The restaurant itself is one gigantic open room. The colors inside are bold and vibrant with the whole Mexican lucha libre theme throughout with multiple tv monitors and a huge screen perfect for watching sports! On the opposite side of the restaurant, there are literally two random swings that make a great photo opp!! Well, since I'm a big kid, I couldn't wait to have a little fun and enjoy a little swing time! I think the swings are a perfect addition to their decor! I had a cafe de olla for the first time. Yum was that delicious! The cinnamon was not overwhelming and there was enough sweetness, that it was just perfect! And, there's free refills! I noticed that most of the food items come with egg, so I wasn't quite sure what exactly I wanted. I finally chose the brunchilada. George had the huevos rancheros, and to be quite honest, idk what Steve ordered, but his had everything! So when they brought out the food, I was a bit disappointed because everyone else's plates were so much bigger than mine! Lol George saw my look of disappointment, but we had a sweet coming out later on. Much to my surprise, the eggs over easy over the enchiladas with green sauce worked! The only thing was that it was on the wetter side, so I asked for a side of chips! That perfected the dish! That was a filling dish, but you know you always have to leave a little room for dessert! We had the three leches French toast! Holy guacamole was that delicioso! It almost tasted like a bread pudding and it as overpowerly sweet, even tho it was a la mode! The fact that it had fresh strawberries and blueberries made me feel like I was finishing off my breakfast healthy! Lol After an hour, the restaurant started to fill up pretty quickly. To be quite honest, since it's an open restaurant, they had a couple of electric fans, but since today was the hottest day of the week, the heat was creeping in, even at that early hour! While passing the area on our way to another location the name of this restaurant caught my eye and decided to stop for a late brunch. The place definitely has a fun vibe throughout. There is small private shared parking lot with a small exterior patio with plants and umbrellas for shade. The interior has a fun colorful ambiance with paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling and a Mexican lucha libre theme throughout. There are a couple swings and green ivy-covered wall for pictures by the entrance. The staff were interesting, they were friendly but were distracted and not as attentive. The WORST experience we've ever had. Today is my birthday and it's Labor Day so I thought brunch would be a good idea. We arrive at 1:30pm. We put in our drink orders and some appetizers, and the waitress seemed to have a hard time remembering our orders. Waitress comes by with the appetizer and two of the same lattes, one of which we did not order. Then later comes with the mimosa flight. We go on to wait 20 min until we can ORDER our food. My dad had to remind the waitress we still haven't ordered. She took our order then less than 2 min later she comes back asking us to repeat our orders. Another 30 min go by (it's been 50 minutes since we sat down), we still haven't received 3 out of 5 drinks we ordered. At this point is when we notice our waitress is stumbling around. After reminding her of our drinks, it's been more than 1 hour since we arrived and still no food. When the waitress comes out of the kitchen she comes to our table with the very SAME APPETIZER WE ALREADY HAD!!!! We told her we already received this and are waiting for the rest of our food! She said she'll let us keep the second set of appetizers free of charge which was fine but thats when we decide that we no longer want to wait. My dad then flags down who we assume may be the manager. Turns out our food was not being made and manager said the food is NOW BEING MADE. We asked for our check for the items we did receive. Fortunately, the manager understood and gave us a discount which we fully appreciate. But still, something needs to be done about that waitress that we are ASSUMING was under the influence, seeing that she was also hanging around customers who were drinking champagne that I can again, only assume, she also consumed. So we have nothing to say about the food, unfortunately, considering we never even got to try it. But the service definitely needs adjustments. We started with the Guac and Chips. They ran out of thechicharon. The Salsa was my favorite of everything we had. I had their Enmoladas from the Brunch menu, his mom had El Chingon Omelette would recommend for meat lovers and he had the Quesabirria Tacos. Opportunities to improve on. The service was polite but really slow considering how slow it was. At one point three of the servers were chilling right in front of us and we were not acknowledged, we waited over ten minutes before the server greeted us. The restaurant def needs a deep clean. The booths are stained and a fresh paint would really help this place look cleaner. If I could give this place zero Stars, I would. 1. My wife and I were discriminated against by this place. My wife uses a wheelchair. When we entered the restaurant, one of the employees greeted me, took a look at my wife, and decided to focus her attention solely on me. She took a look around the restaurant, and then told me, while only looking at me, and doing her best to avoid looking at my wife, that it would be an hour before we could be seated. She did not ask if we were willing to wait. My wife and I were offended, and we left the restaurant. However, we decided to return shortly thereafter to discuss the issue with the manager. A manager told my wife that we could not be seated because the kitchen was backed up. Coming from a restaurant family, I know that to be absurd. What you should do is tell the customer that you are a little bit backed up, so that they know what's going on. They lied, and when called out on it, they gave another excuse. The second problem was the roach that I saw. While my wife was telling the manager that their treatment of us was unacceptable, I saw what appeared to be a juvenile German cockroach crawling across the floor. The thing is this was around noon on a Sunday. That's not roach time, so it's a serious problem that it would decide to come out then. read more
