Consistency is key!! I've been to their other location on Vermont Street (I think). I had the upriser burrito at both locations, and flavor-wise, 10/10. Just like I remember at the other spot. Burrito was yummy fries were just ok. I appreciate an extra Krispy fries, but there were extra like beyond extra crispy like dark brown crispy. Service was good, quick, and friendly. I did come mid-week close to closing, so I can't speak to the speed of service when it's busy but I got my food hot and well-packed for take-away. The spice is cool with nice murals and artificial greenery that even though it wasn't real still gave a sense of nature. This place also has a lot more indoor seating, which is really nice if you have parties of 4 or more as the tables can accommodate more parties of this size. I went to this place today , to order the "take over " breakfast sandwich. For two breakfast sandwiches it came up to $45 with stale fries. This second cafe location is located on Olive Street just South of Washington Blvd. Not as nice and chic as their first cafe over on Vermont St. However, the food continues to be amazing at both locations. Parking..... plenty of Street parking at this location. Although not free, this cafe is located near Hill Court which I can imagine is busy on weekdays. There is plenty of outdoor seating as well as some door. Can well accommodate a group of 10-15 people. The ambiance is mellow and a bit dark inside. Again, not as nice as the cafe off of Vermont but if you're just here for the food. You WILL find good quality food. I ordered the Chapo burrito for breakfast. I've been coming to Birds Nest Cafe for many years. I recently visited and it's very obvious that there has been a change in ownership or management and it's truly disappointing. So many things were amiss. The pastry display was empty except for a some bottles of juice. When I was looking over the menu I noticed many of the usual items were missing, they were dishes that made Birds Nest distinct. The format of the menu was plain and lacking. Later I noticed the chalkboard menu above the counter space was wiped clean. While I was waiting to order a patron walked up and said that her pancakes were not cooked! When I placed my order, the young man taking my order asked if it was for dine in or carry out, I said carry out - to go please. While I was waiting a server walked up to me with a plate, I told him I had placed my order to go. He took the plate back immediately and said he would take care of it. It was a long wait, and during that time I realized that none of the staff looked the same. They were all young and seemed inexperienced. I also noticed that rap or hip hop music was blasting at a volume that was too loud for my taste. When I finally received my order I asked if the restaurant was under new management or ownership. The young man looked around and paused before answering. He said he wasn't sure, as he had just started working there a few weeks before. I walked out and I noticed a big sign that said "OPEN", it cheapened the look of the cafe to be quite honest. I brought home our meals and we were really disappointed. They were all without flavor. The hash browns were bland, the French toast didn't even have powdered sugar on it and it had a few measly sliced strawberries, and the list goes on. The food was terrible for the price I paid. Bird's Nest used to be one of my favorite go to Sunday spots for breakfast but needless to say I'll never return here again if this is the quality of service and food to be expected. read more

Orange Juice comes with a ton of Pulp. We were given straws for the orange juice but they're ineffective with so much pulp. I ordered a southwest chicken salad and it came out to $17 and change. It was terrible and the service was too. First of all, I looked in the bag and noticed that there was no salad dressing. When I asked, they said there was some already on the salad. There was not, I tasted it prior to putting on the balsamic vinaigrette they gave me. That was not god either. She was friendly at first, but would not follow through or properly communicate, and I had to keep reaching out to her several times for the invoice and updates. In my last attempt to obtain the invoice, which I needed to submit for funding, she gaslighted me and tried to blame me for HER poor communication and displayed a complete lack of professionalism with how she spoke to me. She said she would send me the invoice that day but I still did not hear back from her. I was able to reach out to another cafe that had proper communication and professionalism, the same day, because I did not feel comfortable trusting her, and we had a great event. If you are looking to have your event catered I would not trust or depend on this cafe with the new management. She does not have the ability to be accountable for HER actions, is very unprofessional and will leave you hanging. read more

I decided to try this location as I've frequent the Vermont location all the time. I ordered online with hopes it would be ready in the time frame given. This location disappointed. I would like to commend the young lady that was there, being apologetic about the time being taken. I think it's more of a management issue. She said my order along with others inside the restaurant had been stalled because they had a catering order they were working on therefore it would be another 15 mins when it turned out to be more. They paused all other orders that were being placed in store and online because of the catering. There has to be a better solution to this. read more

We were up in downtown LA from Orange County and found this treasure through Yelp. Amazing little spot!!! The venue is really cool and the food and service was out of this world. LOVED the sunrise tacos as well as the oatmeal (which came in the cutest porcelain bowl). My husband raved about how good his ice tea was. They make each glass of tea individually. The staff were super attentive and not only boxed up our leftovers for us but made sure we had fresh to go drinks for our trip home. Kudos to the staff with the exception of the gal Stacy. I have been a loyal customer for quite some years to this location. Never have encountered such an embarrassing situation of a boss downplaying her own workers on a level where the poor workers were talked to infront of customers in such a humiliating way. I came to introduce a new friend & my friend felt the need to reassure the worker if she was ok after the incident. Everything we kindly asked for anything at the counter "stacy" kept bullying the kind workers ethic and micromanaged for the smallest favors. I felt more uncomfortable than the worker did. Such a toxic work environment. Made me not want to return, if it wasn't for the great service received by all other staff In conclusion the food is amazing, I always aim for the chapo or uprizer. Their coffee is always strong and yummy. The outside front patio is cute to have food and sip coffee to. The inside is cozy and nicely decorated especially during special holidays.
