They are not cheep, but the first impression was good, the problem was with what they agree to do verbally, and what was in the contract. Contract was handwritten and drawn, difficult to read, but assuming good faith we were not peaky checking each mark in the contract, believing the Mark, their salesman, is a men of his word - wrong. If you still want to hire them, make sure every promise is in the contract, clearly marked and readable, or just hire someone else, to save yourself some headache, there were companies giving us more competitive estimate. I had their estimator out because the rain gutters were allowing rain water behind the gutters soaking the facia board. Mark knew exactly what the problem was. Over the years the spikes became looser and looser and the gutters were farther away from the facia board. I signed the estimate and scheduled the work. The crew showed up early and they went right to work. They removed the gutters, scrapped the paint off the facia board, repainted the facia and rehung the gutters with hangers and applied a double faced caulking tape behind the gutters do they would never separate from the facia board again. Three man crew showed up and was completed in 2 hours because they knew what they were doing. An honest and reliable company is hard to find, and if you are going to repair or install new gutters I highly recommend A-1 Gutters read more

The in-home meeting seemed fine although they came earlier than scheduled. The formal written quote received several days after the meeting was all screwed up. I sent an email to explain specifically what needed to be revised and I get nothing in response. A week later I call and am told "we responded to your email." I called them out on their b.s. and they just forward me some internal emails between the father (owner) and daughter (admin) of the business that were never actually sent to me. Finally, I get a revised bid and it's STILL not correct. I tell them that they messed up again and they say say "we sent you a revised bid" - which was still incorrect. Instead of calling to discuss they just ignore emails and don't have any normal business follow-up. I could not in good conscience support a business that has poor customer service and does not care to make things right. When I told them I was not going to use them due to their poor service I got a smart-ass email from the owner (Mark) telling me "good luck". They clearly had a monopoly in this business in San Diego for a long time and now with Yelp they have something called "competitors" to deal with. I found another company on Yelp that provided an accurate quote via email within one day of an in-home meeting and is responsive with questions via email. No need to send business to people that just don't give a damm. read more

Bait and Switch - Tracy came out and walked job, built bid and I approved the bid and solution. Took months but Installers came out to install and said we need to add this and add that. I said you can add whatever you want but not changing pricing. Then Mark (Owner) showed up and said oh we can't do your job now it is too unsafe. I said you had your salesman out and now you say its too close to the neighbors house? He just turned and waked off the job. Just a huge waste of time, months waiting to get installed. We just purchased a home in Carlsbad and wanted to have rain gutters installed. Our real estate agent, recommended A1 Seamless Rain Gutters. The installation went well and then it rained like crazy. We have an extended sleeve on our downspout that looked awful. It was white against a landscaped and bark covered area. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We did 2 walk throughs with this company and the 1st installation was still done INCORRECTLY. After taking time off work to be home for the final installation it appeared correct. Until the 1st rainstorm. No screens were installed and the raingutters overflowed and water was coming in through our glass door. I called the company at 3pm on a Thursday and no return call for 5 days!!!. We had to remove the valve to our water retention tanks and found the clog and removed it. The down spout was placed below the level of our drain and therefore backed up 6" of water on the side of our home. When Mark "the owner" finally came out to our house 7 days later he was rude and told me the "job was done correctly." I reminded him and that it wasn't actually. The valves they use are "standard" though a leaf the size of a nickel could completely clog the valve and create this problem. Very unprofessional. Look elsewhere for quality, competent, friendly, customer service oriented work. He even stated he didn't care about the review i would leave on Yelp. Apparently he is that arrogant. read more

A-1 installed gutters on my roof over 15 years ago and they have lasted until I had work done on the roof by another company that laid their ladders on the gutters and tried to put them back where they were, but caused the water to run behind the gutter to the ground. I called A-1 rain gutters again and they came out and installed new gutters using new technology developed hardware. We are so pleased with our gutters! We bought a new house, so we've had to do some minor upgrades to our home. The gutters turned out perfectly and even match the color of our home! It was a pretty small job since we only needed it on the corner of the front of our home and then along the back of our home. I called and requested a install. A person came out shortly after to assess. At random 4 weeks later or so. They show up at my door without warning to start the job. Not even a phone call to ask if the day was a good time. So after that I called to settle my bill 5 or 6 times and never getting an answer. So I waited for them to call me. 3 months later after it was long forgotten I get a call at 830 in the morning. They don't take credit cards. They never informed me of this. The guy on the phone proceeded to call me a liar and then said I was trying not to pay the bill. I responded by rhyming off my CC number. And telling him I never been so disrespected in my life. Do NOT deal with this company. You will regret it. PS no where on their website does it say they only accept cash. Also 5 minutes later he called me back after degrading me and took my CC. But... But one thing to remember is that the other companies never showed you what the styles they were putting in and that is a plus. Also the other companies told me that they would nail into the dove tail rafters..Not A-1 They use stainless steel screws and the job was done Professionally and mainly my wife was happy. With the purchase of our new custom home came the responsibility of hiring various contractors to complete various tasks. I have hired many contractors over the years and have had my share of the not-so-good ones. I contacted A-1 Raingutters based on a recommendation from a roofer that I had used previously and was impressed with. Mark Richardson came out for the estimate and was very helpful with design of our gutter system. I had always liked the traditional half round copper gutters that you would find on historic homes of the past. I knew that it was out of our budget to use this material but Mark came up with a solution for us. He suggested using a new Rustic Copper aluminum half round gutter. We are so glad we did. These gutters look right at home on our Mediterranean style home. We also dressed up the gutter system with decorative style hangers and Leader Heads to give it an additional old world look. We are extremely happy with the work that was performed on our new home. Mark's guys were very professional and worked their tails off to complete our large job in only one day. So I call A1 in late November looking for an estimate. We needed some gutters put on the back of the house. They tell me it will take 2 months to get out. I tell them that I am a returning customer and I want them to do the work because they did such great job putting gutters on the front of the house. They tell that since I'm a returning customer they can probably squeeze me in in 4 to 6 weeks, so I agree. 6 weeks go by and no phone call, 8 weeks go by... at about 9 weeks, I call their office, speak to a different person and explain what's "Not going on". They assure me it's a mistake. Things are crazy with El Nino etc..... They'll be by in 4 weeks. So I call a couple of days before the appointment and they tell me "yes, your on the schedule". I remind them that I will not be home but that the property will be open and accessible. Well guess what? On the "Appointed Day", I get home from work and there's no note on the house that they had been by, so the next day I call to see if they made it out to the house and when I could expect my estimate. The office tells me that they don't know but that "Mark always makes his appointments. Right now he's busy setting up at the home show. I tell the office person that I have been waiting since No-freekin-vember for an estimate!!! Not some actual work but an estimate and that this is not okay. She tells me that she'll call Mark at the Home Show and call me right back. Guess what no phone call. So Mark Richardson, I'm tearing up your business card as I type and you can bet that I'll tell anyone who will listen that good quality work doesn't mean squat if you can't get the work done in the first place. I had A-1 clean the gutters on my home, rehang several downspouts that were poorly designed and leaking, mount a new gutter on my storage shed, install gutter guards on the entire house and test the entire system for proper function. My only complaint is that communication with their office wasn't very smooth. The email estimate they sent was confusing and did not accurately describe everything I wanted them to do, but everything turned out perfect. They did a terrific job and my rain gutters work properly for the first time ever! I no longer have water pooling around my house or flooding the side door into my garage. Scheduled an appointment then called back when I realized I wouldn't be home and talked to someone in the front office to let them know it would be OK for them to walk around my home in my absence. I received a message 15 mins. BEFORE my appt. on my voicemail stating the estimator was at my home and I am not there and left a number to call. When I returned the call ( 25 mins.) later, he didn't answer. I then called the front office and explained the situation and she said she would have him return . Waited a week for an estimate to be emailed to me, and finally called. It has been my experience if they can't get the information right for an estimate and then THE CUSTOMER has to call the company to ask for the estimate, chances are the workmanship will be the same not consistent. Decided to go with a competitor that was more $$$ but followed through SORRY you are losing business because of your front office. read more

I had an absolutely positive experience all the way around. I got three different quotes on getting new gutters. All three were very close to each other in terms of price, so I decided to base my decision on workmanship and quality of the materials used. What helped me decide on A-1 Raingutters was the way in which they attach the gutters (a hidden hanger system which screws in, compared to the older method of long nails that pull out over time). My new gutters also have a sort of wedge that you don't see from the front, but it helps them to sit level (my fascia boards are tilted, so that the previous gutters were also tilted and heavy rain would pour over the edge and cause them to pull away from the house). I waited to post this review until after we'd gotten some rain, and I'm SO pleased with how these gutters are performing! I was also pleased with customer service: the office staff was friendly and informative, and the representative (Brian) even gave me 10% off to keep the quote competitive when he found out I'd gotten two other quotes. They installed and cleaned up in less than a day, and left no mess. I definitely feel like they wanted my business, and I'm glad that I went with A-1. read more
