DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! They are not reliable! After paying Alberto almost $20,000 he stopped the job midway and ghosted us, wouldn't respond to calls or texts or emails for almost a year. Then one day, he responded to one of our texts asking 'who I was'. (He stated that he lost his phone, which he had told me once before when he ghosted us). I reminded him, and he said that he would come and finish the job. Following the 4th 'no show', he just started ghosting us again. (He did come by one time to retrieve equipment that he left here, I was hesitant to give it to him, but he promised he would return... Nope, he never did). I later looked on Better Business Bureau (BBB) site and saw that we aren't the only ones he's done this to. CHECK FOR YOURSELF, Google the Better Business Bureau site and look for A1 Tree in Pomona, then click complaints. They have a 'F' rating. One person said that he paid Alberto $42,000 and another said $2,500, then they were ghosted. Alberto hasn't even responded to their complaints, yet he applied for accreditation through the BBB. I'm so angry because we were so nice and forgiving and he took complete advantage of us. He said that he was 'going through a lot', and gave us details, so we were kind (and stupid!). And for the work that he did do, all the trees he planted are dead. If you see good ratings for this company, check the date. READ THROUGH THE REVIEWS! Most of the high star ratings were from over 5 years ago, many people have updated their reviews since then with 1-star. I honestly thought that they were out of business since he hadn't returned our calls, texts or emails, but when he came by to pick up the equipment that he left here, he was driving a brand new work truck. Sucks to see that he took people's money and bought himself a brand new truck, yet doesn't even attempt to finish the jobs that he took $ for. He also still has my dead father's chain saw and he's refusing to answer texts regarding that. Thanks for nothing Alberto. We utilized A-1 Tree Service in spring of 2023, finding positive reviews and an estimate in line with what we thought appropriate. Spring forward to November 2024. The artificial turf is buckling, has developed areas of depressions under the turf, along the seams some of the turf is lifting, the drainage system he installed is failing and we just had to spend a large sum of money to have another company come out and repair and redo the work done by A-1. They discovered errors in installation and poor use of infill material, insufficient for the amount of turf we had. Drainage ports from the system he installed along the entire length of the patio were found to be covered over with weed barrier so that rainwater could not drain, resulting in the underneath base being washed around under the turf leaving depressions and lumps. We too experienced very poor communication over the couple of months it took to complete the project and only finished the project through determined frequent messages. Empty promises were made and deadlines missed. They miscalculated the time to complete the project, as they often didn't show up for lengths of time and when our hard stop deadline loomed, they rushed to finish but left obvious signs of lack of concern about their final product. Rocks and debris were pushed under bushes, we had to dig out the drain system where it came out in the front yard due to failure to calculate the slope for the actual act of draining to take place, and leaving it up to us to redo work he told us was complete. Drip lines under bushes were incomplete and we had to finish doing the install. Plants removed for various stages of work were poorly replaced by heaping some dirt around them without digging holes and most died. We don't believe he thought we'd actually examine the work. We're not sure of the quality of the turf he used, as no selections were offered (shame on us for not doing our homework better) and we're not so sure we weren't just given an inexpensive version. One compliment we can give is the concrete work that he arranged, but we definitely would not use him for drainage or sprinklers or turf again. read more

I was referred to Albert by another contractor, worst decision I made. He gave me a bid and then he didn't have enough material so told me he had to charge me more. I gave him the money and then went to get material and was again short in material! I am really disappointed because I have him THE FULL AMOUNT and now he has not even called or texted back to finish the job... the worst part is when I went outside to look at the work they cracked the coping on my brand new pool and tried to cover it up. I understand accidents happen but come on tell me you did it don't try and cover it. Please do your research, don't ever pay until the job is fully done and you inspect the work!!! read more

We used them to do our front yard and was quite satisfied with their work so I recommended him with my friends and neighbors ( to which he got the jobs, 4 in total). He was also supposed to replace our existing turf in the backyard. This is where the problem begun. It took him a while to strip down the existing turf and when they had pulled out the old turf (November 8,2024) he said that the company he buys the turf from is closed for the Veterans Day weekend and that they will come back Tuesday, November 12. I had called and texted him multiple times to follow up on the job because we were suppose to have a party for thanksgiving and I cannot have my backyard looking like a mess but didn't reply or picked up my calls. Today is December 4, 2024 and I have given him a call in the morning and as USUAL, he didn't pick up my call so I decided to write this review. I have attached the picture of how my backyard is looking for the last 4 weeks waiting for him to finish the job. Also included the call log to show how many times I have reached out to him. i thought this was a good decision getting this contractor his name is Albert Velasco, dont get to his trap by saying he will complete the job in 4 days, it's a lie. it's been 2 months and still not completed when you call him he will not answer or call you back even texting. the only thing i could do is probably take this to the court and sue this person. he will do the job for the first 3 days then they will come back after 2 weeks, will work for 2 hours and leave, then they will make excuses of still waiting for materials etc. then he will not show up anymore after. Dont get me wrong i put 1 star because they are good in what they do, but customer service, communication and punctuality is bad, do not expect he will give you an updates, you'll not get that. Im thinking they are having financial problem, they will leave you hanging. Make sure the contract stated the plans, the date of completions, and oh give the 50% downpayment and other half is after completion of the job, because he'll ask for more installments in between. Don't ever ever fall to his promises unless it's in the contract, the contract is a legal document for you to use in the court. read more

I contacted A1 via the yelp app asking for a quote and Albert responded within minutes and was able to do an in-person estimate (at my request) within 2 hours of first contacting him. He arrived right on time, so we weren't left waiting and wondering what time he'd show up. Even more amazing was the fact that he was available to remove the unsightly tree the very next day. On job day, he arrived AHEAD of schedule - again, for someone like me who takes great pride in being early/punctual, I was very pleased. Albert and his team did such an amazing job! We needed our entire yard weeded, leaves picked up, and lots of clean up. Our yard is huge, about 5000 sqft, and hasn't been done in over a year. Albert and his crew were in and out in about 3 hours, and everything looks incredible! When he came back the next day to spray for weeds, I asked if they could do a couple spots in the front yard too, and they did that within 30 mins. They also cut all our grass without even being asked, and helped with an extra tree. He and his crew are super professional, and I can't recommend them highly enough. I do not recommend this company. I had plants planted in a slope. They were not planted correctly and started dying. As the water would down instead of in. I asked if he could do berms to help save the plants. He said he would "be there tomorrow to make it happen." Never came, almost a week later and have not heard from him. A couple of months ago, Albert and the A1Tree team worked in my home and I must say they did an excellent job! I initially contacted them because water was going inside one of my rooms and it was an awful flood during rain season. They installed a drain to keep the water out and it turned out to be very effective! Not only did Albert test it in front of me when finished but also with the rains that have passed there has been no water going inside the room anymore. They also worked on a planter which looks very beautiful till this day. I can personally say that A1Tree did wonders in my home and not only are they hadrworkers but also CLEAN workers which is something I consider important as well. Made an appointment to have our sprinklers checked and get a quote. Had an appointment time set up. Came home early to wait for them for two hours. An hour after they were supposed to show up no response on Yelp after messaging them, and called twice w no answer and it says voicemail is full. I was at the house every day when they did the front and backyard. I noticed they did not put gopher wire in a large section of the backyard and they laid down the grass. When my father asked them if they put the gofer wire down in the section I mentioned to him, they said yes. I knew they did not. The section where they did not place the wire was damaged by gophers and the sections where they placed the wire remain untouched. They have to make sure their work is done correctly before they charge thousands of dollars to do a half job. They did not show up on days they said they would, and it was annoying to have to and wait for them to not show up or call. The front yard turned out fine and the areas in the backyard that have the gopher wire look good as well. They are worth it, just make sure you watch them carefully. read more

I don't really like putting out bad reviews as I'm a tradesman and your craft is something you should take pride in. Me and my wife put in turf around our pool in the backyard and also in the front yard. The first two days they laid out the turf nailed down a few spots and compacted the dirt. We loved the turf we picked. The third day they were supposed to come back and nail down the rest of the front yard and portions of the backyard but they never showed up. We called them and tried to get ahold of them after but they never answered, returned our calls and texts and ran off with our money. Me and my brother in law started nailing down the front yard and back yard portions that weren't even nailed down and noticed they cracked our brand new pool in two areas and covered it with turf so we couldn't see it. We have to even find the turf they used cuz they left a big area uncovered with no turf. If they were honest and upfront I would've respected them more but to run off with the money and not return our calls is unprofessional. I called to ask why they missed the appointment and they gave me an excuse that they had scheduling issues. I emailed for a quote and got a response within a minute. Albert came by on the 4th of July, the next day and repaired my sprinklers. He explained to me that my sprinklers were in the wrong spots, that the grass was too high, and what I could do to better maintain my landscape. BEST SPRINKLER GUY EVER...SERIOUSLY. I went back and forth with several sprinkler people who took my money and did nothing. Nothing was fixed and they charged a lot and then I was contacting someone of the people here on Yelp and getting ridiculously high prices. Thanks to God's grace, I ran across Velasco Landscape and here is my experience from start to finish; 1. Called him on the phone, he was sooooo sweet and professional and reassuring. So I took the hint, but I just think it's very strange to invest that much time in a project with a customer and then completely fall off the face of the Earth. Talk about great service! I had an old sprinkler system that needed to get checked out as soon as possible. I've been neglecting my grass for years, and after seeing it nice and green after a few days of rain, it made me realize that its time to set up my sprinkler system and maintain my grass. Really the only day I'm available is Sunday's, so it was great to find that this company was available to come out. I called Sunday morning, and Albert answered right away, and literally showed up at my house less than an hour later! Talk about an amazing job. A portion of the plants in the new landscaping died immediately, one irrigation line wasn't connected to our system, other plants that were supposed to be replaced were not, and new mulch was never brought in (as agreed upon). We contacted him numerous times and he kept saying he would set up a time to return, but he never did...then he just stopped responding to emails or texts. I hired Albert to fix a leak outside the house after talking to 3 different plumbers and getting quotes from them. He responded promptly and was home at the appointed time, and wasted no time to investigate in a hands on (more like spades in) kinda way that told me he was the right guy for the job. We negotiated the price and it turned out to be much more complicated than we thought, so I ended up paying him more than the original price, but for what he did over 2 days, he earned every last penny from me! He is dependable and honest and delivers quality work. Not sure you can ask for more??! I have seen other reviews here where he goes into radio silence mode which I have experienced too, so I'd say he's got to get better on that, but I know who I'm hiring next time to get work done on the outside! read more

I am re-landscaping my front yard to a waterwise garden instead of mostly grass, and I hired Albert and his crew to take out the existing lawn, tree, and shrubs. From the start, communication with Albert was quick and professional, and his estimate was reasonable, so I hired him to do the job. Of the several estimates I received, Albert was the only one who pointed out the proliferation of nutgrass (purple nutsedge) and explained why it is such a difficult weed to eradicate. He gave me two quotes, one of which included digging down deeper to get rid of the nutsedge tubers, then adding clean soil on top--I went with that option. Albert's crew arrived as scheduled on the day of work, and they worked diligently for the 2-day job. I was pleased with the work they did--there were no issues taking down the palm tree, the bobcat made quick work of digging out the yard, and they filled it all in with new soil, raked it level, and cleaned all the dirt off the driveway. A few days later, when I was digging for some irrigation lines, I discovered that on one side of the yard and parkway, the workers had not dug down as deeply but had simply removed the grass and shrubs from the top. When I contacted Albert and asked if he could come and remove the excess soil in order to rectify the issue, he responded immediately and did as I requested (with no additional charge). When he came that second time, he noticed (without me mentioning it) that the nutsedge was coming back in some sections of the parkway and yard, so he set up another time to return and had a worker dig down again to get all of that out--again, with no additional charge to me. He even promised to come back again in a couple weeks to keep treating the areas affected by the nutsedge. Overall, I was quite satisfied with Albert's professionalism, communication, and attention to detail. He was honest and completed what he said he would do. PROFESSIONAL! Last night I noticed an ongoing leak to one of our sprinkler zone heads. I tried the usual route of researching the issue online to try to fix it but it didn't work out. I went on yelp looking for someone to stop by ASAP, to at least stop the leak in the meantime. A1 was the only business available 24/7. I sent in an online request for contact and not even 10 min went by when Albert reached out to me. The next morning he showed up at 8am. It happened to be raining but that didn't stop him from rescheduling. He was able to quickly diagnose the issue and disable it. His quote for the repair work was VERY reasonable and WELL priced. I had a couple of issues with some of the work done on the yard shortly after the work was completed and I was a little frustrated with the fact my back yard did not look the way I envisioned it. Albert made time during the week to not only fix what I needed but also took care of other minor issues (i.e broken pipe, sprinklers spraying in the wrong direction, sprinklers sticking up too high etc) at no cost. I originally had A1 plant grass seed but I have little patience so I asked him to do SOD and he gave me a great price. He also fit me into his schedule two days later when the sod was being delivered. He arrived early to prep the yard prior to the sod delivery and installed it with precision/care. There is an older male who works with him who works super hard and is always busting his butt to do a great job. Albert is very knowledgeable and even noticed I had the wrong type of timer for the yard. He replaced it within minutes and showed me how to use it. I now have the lawn I wanted at my new home and I will use A1 for future jobs/work I want done. Some businesses don't care about negative reviews or complaints after they get paid. Albert wants you to be happy and understands the importance of customer satisfaction. I recommend him and his services to anyone looking for lawn or landscaping work. They initially did a wonderful job. But, unfortunately when I had spent over $10,000 and didn't require any further work, other than weekly yard maintenance, they didn't want to communicate with me any longer. I tried texting and leaving phone messages regarding issues I had with sprinklers and other things. The owner didn't return my calls or my texts. I guess the saying, when it seems too good to be true, it usually is too good to be true. Very sad situation. Now I have to hire someone else to come out and fix the sprinkler setup. The way they set the sprinklers up in the front yard my grass is dying in one area. They brought sod pieces from someone else's house and threw it in the front yard most of it died and I had to pull it out so the area looks nasty. The groundcover they planted in my front yard by the street a lot of it died off because they didn't actually plant each piece they just threw it in there, and eventually it died. I had ordered three Pampas grass plants for my backyard. They brought in two plants at first, one that had been trimmed way down that looked half dead, the other that was about 4 feet high and was totally dead. They let it stay there for a number of weeks before I ask them to please take it out and replace it. I just now last week got two lavender trees one planted where the dead Pampas grass was and one planted in the front yard. They were supposed to replace a bird of paradise plant I had purchased for my backyard that wasn't doing well. I never received that plant. All in all I would say that this company does not have good business ethics. They're nice to you as long as you're showing out the money when that's done they don't want to have anything to do with you. read more

I use Yelp often but I rarely write reviews, but I truly feel that this one was warranted. After years of neglect and our front yard looking absolutely terrible, my wife and I felt that it was time to do something about it. We considered a lot of options including artificial grass and desert landscaping to save money and water. While we decided on artificial grass for the backyard, we always loved when we had a lush green front yard, so we made the decision to resod our front lawn. This turned out to be much more difficult than we had anticipated. Fertile topsoil was all but gone, the pH was not conducive for growth beyond weeds and crab grass, our yard was riddled with mole/pocket gopher mounds, and no matter how deep you dug, the dirt just seemed to be made out of soil that had a consistency of dusty fine sand, and for some reason, there were tons of fist sized rocks buried throughout the yard. In other words we knew this would be an extremely difficult DIY project, and felt we needed a professional. During the course of three weeks, we received approximately 7 bids from various landscaping services, with a significantly wide range in pricing with various strategies for restoring our lawn. While they weren't the cheapest or the most expensive, we could not be happier with the choice of going with Albert Velasco and A1. To be candid, when I met Albert for the evaluation, I was a bit skeptical. He looked like a college kid, he wasn't dressed up in landscaper type gear or had large company branding on his truck (which they probably should get judging by the number of inquiries we received from neighbors) like the others. With that said, he was very knowledgeable about the different types of vegetation that grew on our yard, the issues affecting our soil, and despite operating outside of his working hours due to my schedule, took a significant amount of time explaining things and answering questions. His sales approach was about as low pressure as it gets, and he was genuinely enthusiastic about landscaping. Despite his estimated timeline of three full days to completion, the whole process ended up taking a week, which wasn't his fault. This included demoing the old lawn and pavers, reconditioning of the soil, installation of an irrigation/sprinkler system, laying down gopher barrier, and laying of the sod. While all the sod was laid down the same day it was delivered, the soil was in such bad shape that it required 3 days to recondition, additionally the placement of gopher barrier cloth was not part of our original request, but during the project, mounds would appear, and we felt it would be a good investment. These extra days didn't just involve dumping extra amendment/organic compost on top of what they initially tilled in, his crew was there working on the soil and placement of the gopher barrier for full 8 hour + days. Despite needing to pay his crew for the extra days and the labor associated with laying out gopher wire, there were no additional cost added to their bid. The gopher barrier was purchased by me directly from the vendor of my choice, but the labor for its installation was not charged.. Albert and his crew were always on time. He called a couple of times saying that they may be 25-20 minutes late, but would show up on-time anyways. Even when Albert was away checking on other job sites, his crew was always professional, polite, hard working and respectful. They would also spend the end of every workday cleaning the area, which I thought was odd because it would get dirty the next morning anyways, but it was a nice touch. It has been two weeks since the completion of the project and my wife and I could not be any happier with the outcome. The lawn is thriving, beautiful, and the daily visits from gophers/moles have ended for now (I say this because we have had some gophers that have eaten their way through thick plastic planters somehow). Exceptional service from A1 T&L company. One of our sprinkler stations have broken down on Sunday afternoon flooding part of our front yard. Hiring landscape professional on the first day of the week can be immensely challenging. Couple of hours later they have arrived and took care of the broken valve. $200 wasn't cheap for a single valve but I categorise this service in "emergency" realm, thus 5 stars. Albert responded my request in an hour, come over the same day and did a fantastic job trimming my front yard, he made sure his crew cleaned up everything before leaving. All done with a very reasonable price. Highly recommended, looking forward to do business with him in the future. read more
