Had an oil change performed on my vehicle on March 2025, but I did not want to have tires rotated as I was planning to have that done elsewhere along with balancing. They performed the oil change well enough, but they always seem to be a bit less welcoming when you state that you don't want the tire rotation service. My main issue, however, is that they did not appear to top off my fluids although they include a $6-plus charge for that service on your bill, according to the genial woman who checked me in. I ended up having to buy washer fluid myself to refill my vehicle's reservoir. Also, I would have liked to have gotten the checklist of systems they checked, and the videos they used to provide. Did they not check everything because I didn't want to have the tire rotation? I don't like having to think about that possibility. I'll likely still go there for oil changes, but I am hopeful service will be a little better overall. read more

Save time & money: go elsewhere!!! My wife had a flat tire, and made the mistake of having it towed to AAA Car Care at South Square. They decided that all four tires needed to be replaced, plus a couple other things, and quoted over a thousand dollars (!!!). I said how about you patch the flat tire and I'll come pick it up- which they refused (!!!- professing deep concern about our "safety" lol). Since it was now mid-afternoon the day before Independence Day, I had to scramble to find another shop to tow it to ON MY OWN DIME (the lack of a spare tire is another story). Luckily I was able to find one and they patched the tire for $32; all the tires are just fine (no evidence of "dry rot" as claimed by AAA). This is a great place to go if you're itching to spend extra for stuff you don't need; otherwise you should GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! read more

I took my car for diagnostic because it was jerking. I wa told it would cost a flat fee of $135 with my 10% discount. They said I needed ignition coil and spark plugs among many other things. The estimate said 8 plugs at 49.95 each. My car is a 4 cylinder. I asked why I needed 8. He said he made a mistake. It was only a mistake because I caught it. I have never heard of 1 spark plug costing 49.95. He said because it is the original plug for the car(2015 chevy sonic). Autozone said original plug for my car is $13. Terrible customer service. They installed a damaged headlight with multiple obvious paint blisters on the reflector and refused to order a replacement. After a long back and forth, they updated the part warranty from 30 days to 1 year and admitted to the blisters on the paperwork. Found out after the visit that they also broke the cap to the washer fluid and didn't notify me. The guys at the desk are awful, they mentioned the manager on site Jim Stewart and when asking to speak with him, the first answer was that he would be available if I waited around as he was "doing tickets" and then after they updated the part warranty they stated "he doesn't want to talk to you." It should be obvious, but don't go to AAA, if you ask how to file a support request they will pull up AAA on Google in front of you to tell you to report it there. read more

My wife and I have been AAA members since 1985, my 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan's battery finally died. I called Carolina AAA for roadside assistance at our residence. In my request I advised them that I needed a new battery. They assigned a towing company, who called and advised me that they don't have batteries, then Carolina AAA assigned another towing company and they called I advised them that I needed a battery and they said they don't have any batteries. I tried to reach a "LIVE PERSON" via their 1 800 # and was in voice mail purgatory, or should I say voice mail HELL, their prompts did not have any way to reach a LIVE AAA representative. I finally called Carolina AAA headquarters in Charlotte NC and she said that she was "unaware" that the 1 800 # did not have a prompt, where the caller could speak to a real person. REALLY !!! I think that this is a lot of "taurus feces" that translate to "BS". I cancelled the service call, and work on an alternative tomorrow (Saturday). read more

I am 100% with the people who say "DO NOT take your car here." I took my car in for an oil change and there was nothing wrong with my car. I pulled out and the low oil pressure; turn engine off light came on, so I turned right around (having driven less than 1/4-mile) and steam was already coming out from under the hood - and that was just the start of the hassle. The facility then took 8 days to do an internal review with me driving a rental car on my dime the whole time. It is 2 weeks to the day after this happened and I still do not know if they are going to cover the cost of the repair. As someone with anxiety towards new experiences, I was nervous to go by myself to my oil change/tire rotation appointment. Especially, since the reviews were so mixed on Yelp when I looked prior to going. I showed up right at my appointment time, immediately got checked in by somebody, was told my estimated wait period, where I could sit or walk to to pass the time/asked if I needed transportation, and I was out of there before 2 hours had passed! Used this location twice now for mechanical accident repairs. They are professional and courteous and the repairs are done quickly.

They do not deserve the 1 star rating but that's the least I could give. I purchased a AAA battery a year ago with an extended warranty. For the last month the battery has been giving me issues. Starting has been hit and miss. Call AAA out less than a month ago and was told because it still had a 6% charge, they could not replace. Took it into the Car Care Center on Hwy 55 and they charged the battery and told me to come back if it happened again. Once again, my car is not starting. Technician came out yesterday to jump and told me that the battery that the previous technician installed was not compatible with my car as my car required an AGM battery. Her diagnostic test came back and stated the battery needed to be replaced. Unfortunately she did not have a compatible battery on her truck so sh jumped and advised me to take it into the car care center the next day. Well, I'm up early today to take my car to the Car Care Center but of course it doesn't start. Had to call AAA again. Of course they do not have the right battery and are having a difficult time locating a replacement. Call the shop on Westgate Drive and some very unhelpful supervisor said they could order but it would not be in until next Tuesday which is an entire week away. Really? This is really the worst service I've experienced in a long time. The technician that came out today (Jared) was great. He was determined to help me and made at least 5-6 calls to different Car Care Centers speaking with multiple supervisors. I was finally told to take my car to the center on Westgate and they would make sure my car is taken care of. Got to the Westgate and met with the service rep from absolute Hell. His name was George. He was completely rude, demeaning, and disrespectful. Made sure to tell me that he is not "AAA" and that he just works here. Told me that he's not sure when he could get to me and even though the technician had called ahead and I may be waiting all day. His attitude and raising his voice was absolutely unacceptable. This entire situation has been unacceptable, inconvenient, and just plain unprofessional. And George really needs some sensitivity and customer service training. AVOID THIS LOCATION AND THE ADVISOR JOSHUA BUMGARDN AT ALL COST!!!!! My older mother's minivan recently developed a burning oil smell which I, being a technician myself, found oil leaking down on the back of the engine onto the exhaust from the valve cover gasket. You can actually run you hand on the back of the motor and get a ton of oil on your fingers (Which I showed a service advisor). Not a little oil, we're talking fingers mostly covered. Previously, the valve cover gaskets have been replaced FOUR TIMES, three of which were warranty replacements. (Why this location can't do that simple repair correctly is beyond me) My mother called me today saying AAA claimed the valve covers WERE NOT leaking, but another gasket on the valve covers. Here's the part that pissed me off, the repair was $900 AND required the valve covers to be replaced AGAIN, BUT OUT OF MY MOTHERS POCKET. It felt like a scam to avoid warrantying the part again. The cherry on top though was the advisor, JOSHUA BUMGARDN. This entitled little brat has a serious, extremely unprofessional attitude problem. He was rude from the start, short with MY MOTHER AND I, incredibly disrespectful, and carried himself with an entitled attitude as though he was doing us some kind of favor by merely existing. Following the payment of the useless $75 diagnosis, there was no "thank you for you business" or "come back soon," HE TOOK THE PAYMENT AND JUST HUNG UP THE PHONE ON MY MOTHER. I ran over a 4x4 (think deck post) and it ruined two tires on the right side of my car while driving on Interstate 85 in North Carolina on my way back to Virginia. It took the dispatcher quite a while to get a location for me, but eventually service showed up. A very nice fellow who, unfortunately, forgot to check the rear right tire. As a result, we drove 35 miles to the AAA service station dragging a flat rear tire that ended up dissolving into rim by the time we arrived at our destination. He pretty much accepted full responsibility and JIM STEWART, facility manager at the station at 3505 Westgate Drive, Durham, NC was fantastic. I called him constantly and he was very receptive and even helped lead me through the beginning parts of the damage claim. This was handled fairly and quickly. AAA paid for a sizable chunk of the fee, and I was surprised and pleased. It was a good experience.... after a really bad one. read more

I paid them thousands of dollars and waited 6 weeks more than they told me for a transmission. finally got the car back, 4 flat tires, speedometer wasn't hooked up, a bunch of brackets were left loose, the breather box wasn't bolted down, there was a Handful of bolts on the manifold, and it was leaking around the axle seals. paid them another 550 because "seals aren't part of the transmission warranty" and my driveway is covered with transmission oil again. I've been a loyal customer of this location for the better part of a decade. Not because they're great, but because they are within one mile of my home and my office, so it's easy to get there, and get a family member or coworker to drop me back off later. I'll even go so far as to say I've had bad experiences there in the past, but they always call and apologize and I decide to give them one more chance. However, after my two most recent experiences I will never be back. First, I scheduled an oil change at 9am on a Saturday morning. I was told the service would take about an hour to an hour and a half. Ok. So I walked around Target and then came back. It was 10:15 and my car was exactly where I'd parked it. I asked the front desk rep how much longer it would be, wondering if I should get someone to come get me. He went to find out, then came back and told me they were JUST ABOUT to bring it in, and said this with a huge smile. So essentially I could have slept in another hour and still gotten there in time for them to get started. By 11am I was out the door after a wait in their very unpleasant waiting room (not enough chairs, blaring TV, etc.). In my "feedback survey" I stated that I would not recommend them, I only go bc they're close. Well apparently this reflects poorly on them because manager Travis Ayers proceeded to bombard my husband (not me, my husband!) with emails asking to "talk" about my service. It was clearly my vehicle, my name on the appointment, and my phone number and email address associated with the appointment. Yet my husband got emailed. I finally called, with the intention of asking him to stop bothering my husband. I gave Travis the details of my experience, and he said my next service would be free. I said "well you all told me I'd need a rear break job when I came in for the oil change." And he said "well, we can definitely do something about that price." Ok, whatever. He said he'd add a note to my account. Fast forward to a couple of weeks later. My husband needed an oil change and state inspection on his vehicle. Of course his service took a lot longer than promised. Of course he had to walk to and from the location because of their poor communication with their shuttle driver. Of course he wasn't even called when his car was done- he had to call them! He went in to pick up his car and Travis Ayers said he'd taken something off the bill because of the issue with my car a few weeks earlier- first red flag. He took something off the bill without asking just so he didn't have to give me a free break job, as promised. Second red flag was that my husband's check engine light AND oil change light came on after he'd left. He called the shop, and Travis said it was probably due to more work he needed done. Um, seriously? My husband's car was fine until he brought it in to AAA for a routine oil change. They refused to look at the vehicle again without charging him a diagnostics fee. This is terrible customer service! He also had the nerve to suggest that because we bought my husband's car used, maybe that was the problem- we've had said car for about three years now. This place is sketchy. I don't trust their management or employees. I'm through going to them out of convenience. My husband and I have spend thousands of dollars at this location of AAA over the years. I even sent my sister there for service once- she had an even worse experience and never returned, so maybe I should have learned at that point. These people seem to be deliberately damaging your vehicle and then charging you to fix it. They should be shut down! I needed an alignment so I called to setup an appointment. I was scheduled to come in at 10:00am the next day, I wanted to come in as early as possible to get it over with. When I got to the front desk, at 9:55am, I told the representative that I was there for my 10:00am appointment. They verified some information and asked for my keys. They said it would take an hour and a half. As I walked to the waiting area, very nicely kept, I googled the average time for an alignment and found that it was anywhere from 25-45 minutes. I wondered why I was told an hour and a half being that I made an appointment. My car wasn't brought into the shop until 10:45, I thought the point of an appointment was to get in and out. They finished the work on my car at about 11:15am. The representative was happy about getting the job done in less than the hour and a half, anyone can give a wait time that's double than the necessary time to do the work and then say it was done sooner...really? Like I didn't see my car come in 45 minutes after waiting. Well I gave them a $20 off coupon when I first walked in, I got charged $79.40, don't know if it did anything, I'm convinced businesses adjust prices to factor in the "discount." When leaving I got my receipt but had to ask for the alignment sheet that shows the before and after adjustments. Am I suppose to just get the receipt and not see the work that was done? I'm not a mechanic or technician but after looking at the results I thought that the alignment could have been more accurate, some of the adjustments could have been more precise. Bottom line: place is nicely kept and the people are friendly. Just didn't understand why I had to wait as long as I did for a job that doesn't require that much time and ask for the work that was done. read more

Outstanding! I was driving to Durham from Louisville on a Friday to haul back a Vespa for my daughter and son-in-law. I had planned to head back on Sunday. I noticed my truck was losing power on the freeway. I called AAA service Saturday morning. Chris Bjorklund at the service desk said that they would try to work me in and that they did! The problem was diagnosed as a faulty accelerator pedal position sensor. Chris was able to find the part and have it delivered that afternoon. It should've been there around 3pm but it did not arrive. I called them at 3:30pm and Chris said it would be Monday before they could do the repair. Then I received a call at about 4pm (closing time) telling me to to come by. The service tech stayed over and completed the repair! Thanks to Chris and his team I was back on the road Sunday afternoon. I highly recommend AAA Service South Square in Durham for accurate diagnosis and professional repairs. I've experienced some serious malpractice at this shop. I initially brought my car in to get a balance/rotate/alignment and look over a couple other minor issues. The shop recommended replacing the front tires, so I said ok. For a week afterward, the car made an alarming scraping sound. I returned to the shop several times and was told the car had a bad transmission. When I finally took the car to a Ford dealer, they told me the front tires were larger than the rear, and that all four should have been replaced at once to avoid axle damage on an AWD car. I had them replace the rear tires and paid a $125 diagnostic fee. Then the sound was gone, simple as that, but the car still vibrated badly. When I returned to AAA to tell them the problem they offered to resolve it. They looked the car over, told me there was no damage, and roadforce balanced the tires. The car still wobbled and vibrated, so I brought it another shop, who told me that all four tires were out of balance. I've finally got the car running the way it should have two weeks ago when I first left the AAA shop. Each time I brought the car to this shop, I've had to take it somewhere else to have their work corrected, and I've had to spend more money and more time. I'm considering legal action for the serious negligence, and I will not bring my car back to this shop, no matter how many free oil changes they offer me. I'd rather go to a mechanic I can trust. read more

Do not take your car here. They never call you and always lie about how long it will take, like many of the recent reviews state. I didn't hear from them for so long that I actually had to take an uber to the place to talk to them only to realize that George (who handled my case) was completely not busy. The basic story is they did not fix the brake issue that I had, ended up replacing the same part three times, and created an issue (brakes sticking, car shuttering, burning smell) that my car did not originally have, rendering it un-drivable. Eventually, after my car being there unfixed for a week, I towed it to another facility who took a look and called back promptly. The new mechanic explained how appalling the workmanship was on the master cylinder and it was so bad his technicians too pictures for me to have There are some seriously dishonest practices going on at this place. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. As a long time AAA member I thought it would be more prudent to take my old Acura here for a state inspection and oil change, since the Acura dealership service has become increasingly expensive for an 18 year old car. I was towed to AAA a few months ago when my starter failed, and had a positive experience. I brought the car back a second time for fluid flush and replacement that was significantly cheaper than what I was quoted elsewhere (plus AAA coupons!) and ended up with new rear brakes (I knew this was needed). Was told about the drivers side headlight burning out and quoted $209 to repair, which is $200 cheaper than what I paid to have the passenger side fixed 2 years ago but decided to hold off as this was more than I could afford. I returned this Friday for a 3pm scheduled appointment to fix said headlight based on what I was quoted so the car would pass inspection. I made it clear in my appointment request that the igniter wire and ballast in addition to the bulb likely needed replacing. I was quoted $365 for the job, which I expected. THREE and half hours later I'm taking Uber home after learning "it's more than a burnt out bulb" (really?) and their courtesy van driver pitched a fit dropping eff bombs then stormed out of the building. I got a call back yesterday saying I had to pay $100 for a diagnostic test, then another call later stating the headlight repair would be an additional $700+ WITH USED PARTS. I refused and suggested they do better then was told they would not be able to do anything until Monday. Lesson learned: buyer beware. Carless since Friday PM, I'm kicking myself for not going there in before they closed to pick up the car without the repairs. I'll keep AAA for emergencies but will never trust car care here ever again. UPDATE: I learned this morning when AAA's battery service came to check my battery level after I've had problems starting my car the past 4 days the starter which they replaced last year is a garbage part and needs to be replaced. I don't know what it is with this place. I went in for a state inspection for a 2014 C-Max two and a half years ago, and they came back with a laundry list of items that needed service. The most ridiculous of which were the barely two-year old brakes on a 2014 hybrid, which four years later are still going strong. It's as if they mistook me for Santy Claus. But if you regularly present that kind of wish list to a succession of less savvy owners I suppose you have a business plan. I didn't have an appointment and would have been glad to come back another day but they said they'll be able to get my car in and done within an hour. 2 hours later I was still there and they came to get me from the waiting room to show me my brakes which "need to be replaced immediately, front and back, though the front is slightly worse". I told them not to worry about the brakes and asked if the car is done. Response? "Oh, we didn't do the oil change yet..." All in all it took over 2.5 hours to get the heck out of there. I took my car to my mechanic for the brakes and they replaced the front ones (definitely wasn't a RIGHT NOW situation but the time really was approaching) and said I have 10K left on my back brakes. 10K! Good news and bad news. The good news is that this AAA staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. No complaints. The bad news is about the AAA Travel Money card through Meta Bank. Avoid it at all costs. It just took me 5 months to get a refund for money put on a lost card (and the replacement card never arrived either). Incredibly, for a bank they claim to be: unable to send a traceable letter unable to send an email attachment unable to send a letter via UPS or Fed Ex unable to give a phone number of a Supervisor (their calls are marked "Unknown" on my phone) Only when I threatened to take out a complaint on the Federal level did a supervisor call me and we located the problem. Despite confirming my address each time with their front-line phone staff, Meta Bank had neglected to put the building and unit number on the address. For that, I wasted hours on over 10 calls, and much worry. Meta Bank should be investigated. read more

Being relatively new to town, when we needed to get an annual inspection, we chose AAA Car Care Center as we've been AAA members for years. Brought the car in, and suddenly our older, but great running car needs over $3,000 in repairs in order to pass inspection. What?! Picked up the car, drove it across the street to a Yelp highly rated garage (am posting a review there also) and instead of a new catalytic converter, this other garage found an oxygen sensor that wasn't working - replaced that for $200, we drove it for the 100+ miles to test, and that was the problem. We just saved $2,800 by driving the car across the street. At AAA, we were just getting the sense that they were taking advantage of non mechanically inclined people, and maybe had a quota to fill. They had a whole list of things that suddenly needed repair in order to pass inspection, and we've never experienced that in other states, as many of these items had nothing to do with safety or emissions. We didn't experience that when we took the car to the other garage either. Stay away from AAA Car Care Center - we were not the only ones that this has happened to. read more

I don't know who got them the 5 starts... They tend to cheat international students and people who are not familiar with car. Let me explicitly tell my experience with here. My car could not be started and got towed by AAA people to this place. They told me that my car had an alternator problem by them. Then they called me back, saying that i had a battery problem as well and asked $600+. They called back two hours later and said i got a radiator problem and asked $800+. I was so stupid to say Ok before they called me back again saying that the radiator needed an extra $109 coolant and the previous price was calculated wrong, which should be $1200. I was very unhappy and negotiated down the price back to $800 and got my car back. Two days later, my car could not start again for the exactly same problem. I towed it to another place and learned that my alternator was broken! It was probably not replaced at all. I got it towed back to AAA again with a legal consultant, and finally got it done. The other thing i found out later was, my AAA gold membership expired. They would no longer serve me since i had used it 4 times this year....for this cheating service...they said that i can file complains to the AAA corporation... i will simply stay way from these people forever. read more

Word to the wise, if you need to make an appointment for your car here, make it 2 or 3 weeks out. This place is always booked solid. Good news is that you can drop your car off right when they open in the morning and they can change oil and what not while you're at work and you don't need an appointment! You just need a nice co-worker or friend to drive you back to pick it up. Service was friendly. A perk is the shuttle van driver who will drop you off at work after you leave your car. Definitely check out the website first and print out coupons. The staff wont mention special deals until you mention the coupons. read more

Listen to the one star reviews. I made an appointment for an oil service at 9:30 by 10:30 my car was not in the garage. I called specifically to have lug nuts replaced on my one tire I gave the make and model to ensure they were ordered before I got there. They were not. At 11:30 the service advisor came and recommended 1,100 worth of maintenance items on my car...many of which aren't recommended till 100,000 miles per manufacture. Close to 4 hours for an oil change, tire rotation and lug but replacement. Thankfully I had a coupon for the oil change so I ended up paying for the lug nuts, but it ruined all the plans I had for my day. Stay away from this old boys club. read more

This particular AAA Car Care Center seems to take advantage of people who don't know much about cars (like myself). After they replaced my battery in January, I was back two days later with a bad starter. A few months later, my starter went out again. But rather than just replace the starter, they tried to tell me that I had a corroded cable connecting the battery and the starter. And they couldn't just replace the cable, of course not - they told me they had to replace the entire engine harness, which was going to cost me $1000. I was sketched out, and decided to go elsewhere for a second opinion. Turns out my car was perfectly fine once they replaced the starter. This place is like a bad cliche - a really expensive bad cliche. As I was telling people what happened, others came out with similar experiences. It's especially annoying because it's AAA - so if AAA tows your car, they recommend this place! Stay strong and just say no! read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I've had a multitude of problems with this location and they've been polite enough to correct their mistakes and very apologetic it until now. Their new manager Travis Ayers is a nightmare. He was disrespectful to myself and my wife upon our mutual visits. After my wife received terrible service getting an oil change, Travis said they'd be on their game when I came in for an oil change which was fully not the case. After making an 8:00AM appointment and waiting in line 25 minutes before I was event helped they finally got to checking me in. I needed a State Inspection and Oil Change. I received my oil change and state inspection and moments after leaving AAA my check engine light came on and so did my oil light. I called AAA to let them know this was the case. The person that answered the phone wasn't polite and didn't even seem bothered by this lack luster service. I was able to get their manager Travis Ayers to look at the vehicle and didn't seem to find an issue that the moment I left AAA my check engine light came on and wasn't really interested in evaluating the problem. He suddenly started telling me all these issues needed to be looked at which were never brought to my attention before. I told him that it looks bad to leave a garage and suddenly your car's check engine light is on even before you get home and he seemed to have no problem with that. My care was absolutely fine until I brought it into AAA this morning. Terrible service. Terrible customer service. AVOID at all costs. read more

I had my 2011 Toyota Prius towed there because I heard something under my car dragging. When they called in the morning, they said the hybrid warning light was on, which is strange since I had not seen any indicator lights on the night before, but they told me they didn't have any hybrid mechanics at the store. Inconvenient for me, but understandable. So I got it towed to a different mechanic. When I called to let them know the tow truck was coming, the guy who answered the phone mumbled that he was alone in the store, then hung up on me. When I finally got it to a Toyota shop, they didn't see any lights on at all, there wasn't anything actually wrong. So why did I have to take it to a Toyota shop in the first place? read more
