During a transmission repair I was lied to multiple times about the price, my car was "being worked on" for four weeks, and I was charged for a credit card fee that was never made public. I was told that I could pay with a debit card instead, but this was a mistake as the company forced me to wait for over 2 hours to get a credit card refund. I don't say this lightly: this is the worst customer experience I've had in my life. I want to start off by just saying I did not have a good experience with this particular AAMCO and wouldn't recommend it. I brought my car in for issues I believed to be the transmission and asked if they could take a look at it and let me know if these assumptions were correct. Mike (the person who inspects the vehicles) was quick to diagnose my car and it's issues which he stated were my transmission and also that I would need a tune up. From here I agreed to let them replace the transmission for me and do the tune up. Fast forward a week later I was called by Mike being told that my car was ready for pick up. Upon arriving, they let me test drive it before doing all of the paper work. This is where it gets very frustrating. The test drive revealed that the same issue I had before I brought my car in for repair was STILL happening after they "repaired" it. This is after week of them having my car and after they have already charged me over $5000 for my car repairs. They then take it back for another week to "take a look" at it again. Upon receiving my car again they told me it was my cylinder #1!!! This makes me wonder if I even needed a new transmission. My confidence in their work is little and I honestly feel like they pulled a fast one on me since I'm a 22 year old college student who knows very little about cars. I don't suggest going here, they left me concerned on whether or not my car will be broken again within a couple months and made me definitely feel like I was lied to on what the issue really was with my car. read more

I was going to write of my horrors about the price changing, about being told I was getting a brand new transmission only to be told after 5 weeks when I was finally able to pick the car up that I still owed almost a $1000 after paying $5500 for my new transmission. I was told $5500 for a new transmission. On the way home reading the paperwork, its a rebuild, not even a new transmission. After reading all the terrible reviews on the side here I see that this company just lies and rips off everyone. So no need for a long drawn out story. Just know that is who they are. Update: the transmission they installed is either failing or or wasn't properly installed after less than a month. If you want the full story, then please read below, but the TLDR version is: AAMCO Canton is the worst business I have ever dealt with. They are corrupt, stole my money, repeatedly changed the quote, took forever to do any work, and lied multiple times. They are unable to perform basic customer service functions if either Mike or Gill are not in the shop and held my car hostage until I paid for my repair twice because they couldn't fix their own mistakes without both of them being there at the same time. * October 26, 2022: We took our car to AAMCO Canton due to transmission issues. Mike told us it needed a new transmission, and it would be $5000 total. * November 17: We decide to get the transmission fixed and call AAMCO back and say we would like to get the work done. They give us a new estimate of $6013.97 because the original estimate didn't include the transmission mounts which also need to be replaced, which seems like a very obvious item for a transmission repair shop to miss unless they're trying to mislead customers. He claims he is not charging us of labor on the mounts, just the parts. We decide to proceed even with the added costs. * November 19: We give them our credit card number to process the transaction. They process it on a Friday afternoon for $6380.07. On Monday, my husband calls to see why it was higher than they said. Mike tells him it is the credit card processing fee. Mike says that we can physically come into the office to reverse the charge and put it on the debit card so there wouldn't be a fee, or we could just wait until the car was done to fix it. Not knowing the transmission was going to take forever, I figured we could save the time and wait for the car to be fixed. We drop the car off. * December 2: My husband calls and is told they are still working on the car. * December 9L My husband calls and is told there was a shipping delay that cause the parts to come in late. They have had our car for 3 weeks at this point, have not initiated any conversation regarding all the delays, and were clearly lying when they told us they were working on the car on December 2. He tells them we really need the car back; they claim they will start working on it on Tuesday December 13th * December 14: No updates, so he calls again. He is told it will be done that afternoon. He calls back that afternoon, it is not done because they need to do testing on it. It will be done by noon the next day. * December 15: I drop him off to pickup the car. As I'm driving home, he calls me to let me know that they are telling him it is actually $6179.24 and that they can't process the refund on our credit card because Mike isn't there. They will not release our car unless we sign the credit card receipt. They say we can come back tomorrow to process the refund; we should take the car now. I drag my 2 small sick kids into their waiting room and argue with them for a little bit, and they end up offering that we CAN get the refund now and process the new $6179 price, but they can't honor their original price since Mike isn't there. We decide to wait to pay and pick up the car until the next day so we can speak to Mike directly. I specifically ask Gill if Gill will be in tomorrow since he is the one that now knows everything that is going on. * December 16: At 2:15pm I drop my husband off to pickup the car. At this point, we're willing to pay the new price of $6179 just so that we can stop dealing with these people. My husband sits in their office for 2 hours because Gill is not there and does not like to share the refund code and he is "almost there" for 2 hours. When I finally get back with my kids again so that my husband can leave for an appointment, Gill is on hold with who knows who to process the refund. We decide to file a dispute on our credit card and be done with these people. read more

Mike gave me a in-depth description on what was wrong with my car and guaranteed they could fix it and that is exactly what they did! I am super happy with the result. I brought my car in for a transmision service light. They charged me $950.00 to purge the trans, Change transfer case oil, and change the rear end oil. The hand written bill said $ When I picked up the car the light was still on. They said the transfer case was broken and the rear end won't work. Never bring a car in with a California Plate or they charge you double + for the job and won't fix it. What happened to the honest repair shop. Why are they servicing broken parts that don't work??? Plus they don't return phone calls. They charged me more then twice as much as the car dealership does. Yes, I did call the dealership afterwards. Avoid at all cost this place. They seem to do good work but. . . It takes them forever to do it. I dropped it off on a Friday. At 5 they said they would call me with an estimate on Monday by 1230. On Tuesday, I called them and got 2 estimates, one for rebuilding the transmission, and on for replacing it. I decided to replace it. Their timeline was 2 days to get the transmission in and 2 days to do the work. 8 days later I called them to see if I could pick up my van. They had not started. They said it would be started that afternoon. I stopped by the next day. My van had not moved. I went in to ask about it --it would be started that afternoon. I called about it Friday afternoon (they had the van for 15 days at that point). They were have problems with the valve body. On Monday afternoon, I called. They were waiting on parts to fix my new transmission, it would be ready tomorrow. That went on for 2 days -- always it will be ready tomorrow. On Tuesday evening, I wrote a letter to AAmco national explaining the situation. On Wednesday, they were replacing the transmission with another one. The owner of the franchise went to pick it up so they didn't have to wait on shipping. I finally picked up my van on Friday, 3 weeks and a day after I dropped it off. During the time Aamco had the van, I received on phone call to let me know I caould pick it up. I never got a call letting me know it was going to take longer than expected. Since it took so long, they gave me 10% off the estimated price. Not enough in my book. Without the use of my dad's truck, I either could not work or I was renting a truck for $650+/week read more

The folks got right to the problem and scheduled an apt for the next day. Work was completed on time and the price was reasonable for the work done. Area around repaired Trans lines was clean and obviously double checked . I highly recommend them. read more

This place is absolutely one of the worse displays of robbery and dishonesty I have ever been. Back in September I brought my vehicle in here for a misfire on a cylinder they charged me 4 hundred and something dollars to do I'm not sure what because my receipt said Fluid and labor, did I mention I was there from 8-3, the mechanic came up front from the back to try to confused the life out of me talking mechanic lingo and in that chat mentioned they had NOT replaced any of the ignition coils which is specifically what i went in there for i was to the point of frustration and just wanted to leave, as I was leaving the vehicle was still doing the same thing it did when i brought it in there but this time was making a fun new noise to accompany the issue that was not resolved. After cooling off for a few weeks I decided to go back and see if they would right their wrong, I was assured they would by the manager Jon, when I took my vehicle back there it was another entirely different issue per the manager who was telling me the vehicles issues ranged from transmission being shot to engine issues, mind you this vehicles engine is under a year old. Finally I got smart and I decided to get my vehicle the heck out of dodge and took it to the Aamco in Woodstock where they actually pride themselves on honesty and not robbery. The owners were absolutely night and day different than the used car salesman Jon who thinks he could sell ice to an Eskimo. They advised me that the only issue my vehicle was having was my brakes needed to be replaced they found nothing wrong with my engine or my transmission . I cannot believe that 2 of the same company's a few miles apart with different owners could be so different . If you are looking for someone honest drive the extra couple miles to the Aamco In Woodstock and stay away from the nightmare that is cantons Aamco. read more

2005 Acura MDX: car was making horrible grinding noise upon acceleration/turns from a stop. Took it to a local garage with certified master mechanics AND a Acura dealership. Neither could diagnose the problem. Dealer said possible front differential which would have been very costly - more than car's value. Took it to Gus' AAMCO for their assessment. Turned out only to be engine mounts. These knowledgeable and reliable mechanics took the time to inspect, accurately diagnose and repair the problem. I went there with a simple problem in March 2013. My 2001 Chevy truck was throwing a P1870 code, a common problem for this vehicle. That was the ONLY problem with it. I left it there a week and Gus told me they were putting a "shift kit" in it. I picked it up and it would not shift passed second gear, clearly not how I brought it in. I took it back and he gave me the runaround for days. I called him and told him not to do anything else to it and that I was picking it up. When I went to pick it up, he said they were putting the original parts in. What??? He then went back to "stop the process" and when I asked him to give the parts that came out of it, he gave me a spring and a valve. Hmmm.... I then took it to a real transmission shop who had to rebuild it because the 3 and 4 gears were burned out. I went back to talk to AAAMCO and they informed me that the change in pressure had caused the 3 and 4 gears to "finally go". Fishy.... Be warned. Do not go to AAMCO! read more
