Let me add my words of praise for this terrific garage! Last week, I saw their sign declaring "Brakes squeak? We can help!" I had gotten a cut-rate "deal" at another shop on Clark, and my squeaky brakes were driving me crazy. The mechanics courteously and quickly handled my request, even though I arrived without an appointment. They showed me the problem and replaced a brake pad at a very reasonable cost. Paul let me come in the day I needed brake pads and rotors fixed even though he was all booked up and walked me through every step, giving me explanations of what was going on with my car. They informed me that they had done a "thorough" inspection and could fix the problem. I found AB Marathon on yelp and it was the best decision I made. They were super friendly and professional. Phil is a great guy read the reviews live close by so I decided to take the van in because it was overheating the day before. I took it in early at 8am and left my keys and contact info. Phil called me back later in the day and told me they ran several tests and they couldn't get the car to over heat. When I came in to get the keys Phil said no charge and to bring in if I have any issues. We were also low on windshield fluid and he had already filled it on the house. Honest great shop. I have never had my car repaired here, but they always seem to have the cheapest gas prices in the area and the guy behind the counter has been the same face I've seen every time I've gone in there, day or night, over the past 5 years. Not to forget to mention that he never makes me feel belittled when I give him $3.39 in all change in order to pump just enough gas into my car lest it freeze below 0 and my gas tank is empty. My three-year-old car had never needed more than an oil change, so I was quite nervous when it started making a scraping noise. Thanks to personal recommendations and the insane amount of 5-star reviews, I took it to AB Marathon. From the time I called to find out when to bring it in to the time I left it in their capable hands, I was amazed by the level of friendliness and kindness I received. I dropped my car off on a Friday afternoon and was told they might not be able to look at it until Monday, so I was surprised when Saturday afternoon, I got a call from Paul with a full diagnostic report. He took me through everything step by step, explaining that it seemed like a lot but was mostly just that the car still had all the original parts so it needed some updates all at once. Gathering very quickly that I know nothing about cars, he gave me a really easy to understand explanation for every step he took and every outcome he found. He priced everything out item by item so I knew exactly what each thing cost, and he even recommended what I could hold off on doing if I didn't want to spend the money all at once. A bit panicked over the total, I made a call to a couple other mechanics, one of whom quoted me a significantly lower amount. I called Paul and told him I was going to go somewhere cheaper, and he was extremely understanding and asked me for details so he could see if there's anything he could do to keep my business. He explained to me why the quote was not very realistic, checked online while I was on the phone to see if he had any coupons he could use for parts, and gave me a discount on the labor. In the end, Paul's quote was only about $60 higher than the other place, and I was so grateful for the amazing service I'd received that I told him to go ahead with the work - the level of trust that was created was worth the $60. I picked my car up the following Monday and it's been running like new ever since! Cannot recommend this place highly enough - I felt 100% comfortable as a woman who knows nothing about cars going in and knowing I wasn't going to be cheated, harassed or taken advantage of. read more

Absolutely amazing service. My car needed a jump start on Saturday morning so I called around the auto shops close by to see if any offered roadside service. On the third call, the owner at AB Marathon answered the phone, quoted me a reasonable price and sent someone over within 10 minutes. Two guys came out of a jeep and had my car started and running within a minute. One of them happened to be the owner's son who gave me some preventive tips, explained how the battery charges, offered to check my battery for free if I bring my car in. On top of all this, I happened to not have any cash on me, and he just said I can drop it off at their shop when I go visit! There was an ATM a few blocks away... but wow! I have a regular place that I have gone to for car maintenance in the past that isn't necessarily close, but when the power steering in my car went out, I didn't feel comfortable in driving all the way there. My partner did some searching of nearby shops and came across AB Marathon and we decided that this would probably be the best place, if not anything else, for the sake of distance. I crossed my fingers and drove carefully there. Paul greeted me immediately when I pulled up to the garage and instantly took my car in. (It turns out to be good timing on my part, since they had just finished work on another car... I certainly wouldn't expect that type of immediate service all the time) That being said, Paul and Steve checked out my car and assessed what needed to be done - Paul gave me an estimate for what needed to be done and, worst case scenario, an idea of what would would need to happen if there were further issues. Turns out, after a fairly inexpensive belt replacement, all was well. In the 30 or so minutes I was there, I got constant feedback and explanations as to what was going on. The service, as noted in all of the reviews here, was just amazing. The entire crew is friendly, honest, and does quality work. (Side note: if this is your thing, they offer wi-fi and computer use in the waiting area, and there is a TV and a nice coffee machine). Fantastic place... I had the unfortunate luck of running over a large screw while driving on the Northside. Took my car to AB Marathon early the next morning and was greeted by one of the very friendly men that works there. They took my car in immediately and made quick work of plugging the tire. The mechanic, who was also extremely friendly and polite, not only repaired the flat tire, but also make sure to check the air pressure in the other three before turning the car back over to me. They also offered me coffee while I was waiting Fifteen minutes and $21 later I was on my way. Quick, efficient and friendly service. Who could ask for anything more? read more

These guys are awesome! They took a look at my car right away and explained and demonstrated to me exactly what was going wrong with my car. Paul then carefully and fully explained every part of my estimate and worked within my budget. After completion of the work I was very satisfied and my car felt like a new human being! However, i did notice some idling issues that were still present. I took it back the next day to have them take a look. Paul noticed that my spark plugs were dirty and cleaned them for FREE. I was stunned I couldn't believe a mechanic would do anything for free, but these guys definitely showed me wrong. I will definitely be recommending everyone I know to this shop. Paul at AB Marathon really took care of me. Super down to earth, overall cool guy, and genuinely wants to take good care of his customers. I was taking my car for my annual track day event (race my daily driver around a track all weekend... total blast!) and I had to get my brake fluid flushed (or so I thought), get my track brake pads installed, put on my track tires/rims, and get an oil change. I usually do this work myself when I have the time to drive to the suburbs and use a friends garage. I dropped my car off on a friday morning (8:30) with the understanding that I'd need it done by noon... Paul called me a bit later to ask me if I really needed the brake fluid flushed as it seemed in great shape. I trusted his advice (and money savings for me!) to wait on the brake fluid. The car was done at 11am, an hour ahead of schedule and for about $300. Not too shabby for all the labor and the number of tasks completed. Again, Paul is awesome. If I could give more stars, I would. I stopped here once to get gas and realized I was grossly overdue for an oil change, so I asked them if it was something they could do there. He drove my car right in the garage and it was done by the time I got back from grabbing a coffee a couple blocks away. Fast forward to Christmas Eve. Let me say that one more time for emphasis... CHRISTMAS EVE. I woke up to find that someone had stolen the catalytic converter off of my car. I was a wreck. I had no money to fix it, and no way of driving to see my family for the holidays. I called Paul at AB and he said to bring it right in. He had my vehicle fixed for a quarter of what the dealership quoted me, in less than two hours. I didn't even think they would be open that day, let alone able to get it fixed. It honestly was the best gift I could have received. I was in tears. Since then, I go there anytime I need anything done, it's always done that same day, and everyone is so friendly. It's nice in such a big city to go anywhere and have someone know your name. They know my name there, and they treat me like we are old family friends. They never overcharge, they stand by their work, comfortable waiting area, I have no complaints.
