Who knew I'd find comforting Vietnamese food across from the Speedway!…read more I had just flown into Daytona Beach and, after settling into my hotel room, I came to Mama's Kitchen for dinner. Right away, we were greeted by a young lady and gentleman, and were directed to sit at one of the tables. The restaurant was clean and spacious. They had a cute little Vietnamese cart in the middle of the restaurant to bring a bit of Vietnam into its design. They also had a wall with a beautiful drawing. We ordered a few things from their menu, starting off with egg rolls and Bahn Mi with sweet potato fries. Whatever dip it came with was delicious - and that's coming from someone who doesn't like the orange sweet potatoes! We also ordered entrees such as their Bo Kho and Bo Ne. Both stews were delicious. For drinks, we had a Tamarind drink and a Kumquat drink - both of which were refreshing. Overall, I really liked the food here. And the decor was simple and the service was attentive. The gentleman who brought our food out was also very careful with making sure there were no peanuts in any of our dishes. I'd love to come back here again on my next visit and try a new dish!

I got Thai tea as well and that was the perfect sweet and not too heavy like a lot of places do. The restaurant was very clean when I came in and since I was sitting alone, a lot of restaurants give a little attitude over it but they were very welcoming and set me right up. My server and the lovely lady that brought out my food were phenomenal, constantly checking in on me and lmk that if I want to sub something it's no worry at all for next time. Which there will definitely be a next time -- probably way too soon.

We were served individually. It's rude that one person is eating while everyone else at the table is starring at the only one eating. The pricing matches with the tourist prices. Pad Thai was sour and salty. Sauce was very overwhelming. It was like eating linguini. Pho was salty and watered down. Bone broth wasn't rich. Com thit suong heo was on the drier side when it's suppose to be juicy from the oil it's cooked in. The fried rice with the Cornish hen wasn't juicy or moist. When you bite into the crispy skin and into the meat, it was very overrated. From the background music and the decor, the ambiance is very on point with Vietnam.

This pho really was missing flavor. It tasted like hot water. I never doctor my pho up, and this one I added a bunch of hoisin sauce and sprouts and basil lemon and lime and still couldn't find flavor in it. I gave my chicken to my dog bc he loves chicken and at least there was pork and shrimp for me but the bowl flavor yea definitely lacking. I had left overs which I usually love but I haven't touched it. The service was ok but the server left and someone else took care of us and gave us the check. So it was not out of this world service. The atmosphere is a bit old and run down The parking lot was also too dark.

A diner that stays open in the evening is not that common, but here we are!…read more A short stroll from our hotel on an early Saturday evening found us there at this classic New Jersey-looking diner (Looks like a silver railway car) Inside - the olde school diner decor with photos of Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando and others on the walls Service was very good - our young lady informed us before we ordered that the kitchen was very busy (nice touch) In the end, food came out within 15 minutes of ordering...set expectations low and deliver high = super service So...onto to the food Shepherds Pie exceeded my expectations; although it always comes with carrots, they were substituted by green beans and it worked Great food, fast service...you will not be disappointed

2 Stars I hate…read moregiving anyone a two-star review, especially for breakfast--my favorite meal of the day--but unfortunately, this one just missed the mark for us. The biggest issue was the quality of the food. If you're going to charge around $15 for a breakfast, put a good-quality sausage patty on the grill. It doesn't take much to make a flavorful sausage gravy from scratch either, but this gravy tasted like it came straight from a bag or can and had almost no flavor. The biscuits themselves were actually pretty good, but pouring margarine over the top completely changed the taste. The sausage patties weren't very good and seemed like they'd been left on the grill too long. The fried potatoes were decent, and so was the sourdough toast. The staff was nice and working hard--they were extremely busy. There were a lot of people in line, so clearly plenty of people enjoy the breakfast here, and the place itself has an interesting atmosphere. The price didn't help. $4 for a Sprite is overkill. We had one breakfast with an egg, sausage, toast and home fries, one waffle, half an order of biscuits and gravy, and drinks, and the bill was over $40. At that price point, I simply expect better-quality breakfast ingredients. This is just our experience and opinion. The staff was friendly, and considering how busy they were, I give them credit for that. Maybe we'll give it another shot next year, but this time around, the quality just didn't match the price.
