We move into a new place and was looking to change the fabric and color on our 4 dining table chairs. We looked up another place on El Cajon before choosing to go to Abbas. The first place gave us a very late project date, too many costs involved and did have a good costumer service. We live close by to Abbas so decided to give it a try. Stopped by and told him what we need he said he will do it for us the next day and may take up to 24hrs. Since I wanted to buy the fabric myself, I consulted with him about how many yards to get. The next day we dropped off the 4 chairs with the fabric and we picked them up within 48 hrs. He did not accept credit card. I believe you can do check or cash. We have used Bassam at Abbas Upholstery for years and had been pleased. However over the last few months we have unfortunately change our opinion. First, we had some cushions made and questioned the amount of fabric we were charged. No real answer was provided as to why we needed so much fabric!? (I sew a little bit and have a clue.) Our next project was for cushions that needed to be recovered for outdoor furniture. What we received were decorative pillows and not what we took in for covering (the back of the settee and chair.) Now have no real back to our outdoor furniture. To be honest, it took us a couple months to realize why they looked funny. When we pointed this error out to Bassam and suggested it had to be done correctly he blew us off. We've had to go to Quality Interiors (they are wonderful) to have these made correctly. Everyone I showed the pictures to of our furniture and the product that we received agreed that we did not get what we asked for nor paid for. Sad to say we are really disappointed enough so that we'd like everybody to see this post. If you are considering reupholstering any of your furniture ABBAS on Adams Ave a hair east of 30th Street are exceptional. Their work is quality plus. Just had my sofa done (I was tired of the upholstery) it was in perfect condition and they had done it 10 years ago. This is the third time. The original time included the restructuring from an out of date over stuffed sofa style to a more contemporary style. There is a variety of fabric material and pattern dependent on you choice and budget. I found the price reasonable and the service beyond expectations. Mr. Abbas did the work himself. He reupholstered a favorite chair which I used at my desk in my home office. Perhaps I was lucky that he was able to take in my chair on a Tuesday and have it ready by Thursday but it was no luck that the workmanship is outstanding. Mr. Abbas is a skilled craftsman. I hired this company to make new cushions for my a large number of outdoor furniture pieces. I am gravely disappointed in the shoddy job done on all these cushions for which I purchased top-dollar high quality fabric (Sunbrella) through this business. The cost of the production of the cushion-covers was also high. Therefore, there was no skimping on my part. The workmanship is truly atrocious. The stitching is with the wrong type of thread and in the wrong color. The stitching is also uneven throughout and there is "bird-nesting" (bunching of thread) all along the seams. All this sloppiness is in visible areas. My child could have done a better job of stitching than this. The zippers were sewn incorrectly because they pucker up making the zippers visible and the pull tabs all stick out prominently leaving their sharp ends protruding. Clearly, these are cheap zippers also. The ties with snaps were not the right length and the snaps were of low quality. Do not make the mistake of trusting this business with your upholstery needs despite the self-glorification of the owner who states he is hired by many fancy hotels. If I could give this business no stars at all in my rating, I would. read more

We found 2 chairs at a Consignment Store, I called Abbas Upholstery & Design to ask about the chairs, as far as the quality, etc. Basam was so helpful, I sent pictures on my phone for him to view. Basam not only advised me, but also picked up the chairs and took them to his shop. I went to the shop, picked out my color and in 2.5 weeks the chairs were beautifully re-upholstered. Basam, put in new cushions, cleaned up & polished the legs and wood handles, etc. We love our chairs! I am so disappointed! Abbas Upholstery has done such great work for me before, but something has drastically changed. I have worked with Abbas on two other upholstery projects, and recommended them to a new client. She lives elsewhere during the winter, so we had six months to take care of her reupholstery. After Abbas picked up the sofa, I would have to leave several message before I would get a return call about the project. Every time I did get to speak to Mr. Abbas, he said the fabric was still on backorder, and when I suggested that we choose another, Mr. Abbas said he would call me back. I would never receive a call back and would have to go through the same process of several phone calls until he would call me back. It is six months later, he will not return the calls, or offer to even just return the sofa to the homeowner. I can not recommend Abbas Upholstery for any project due to their lack of communication and willingness to work with their clients. read more

These guys came highly recommended and they jumped right on the repair while I waited. But they simply didn't do the job right. A wooden leg on my antique dining room chair was splitting, and instead of using screws and/or a dowel to shore it up, they used wood glue and a bunch of staples. The leg lasted about a month before splitting again. Now I need to find someone who will fix it properly. read more

The main reason why I'm giving this place two instead of one star is because the staff was somewhat nice to me. I brought a huge two-piece retro couch to them in May 2006. It needed to be re-stuffed and re-upholstered. They did it poorly. The backs of the two pieces came back to me with different heights, a panel had to be reattached and some stitching came undone with in the first week of having it back. I have been playing phone tag with the owner, Baasam for eight months now to repair the stitching. My advice to you, go somewhere else for your upholstering needs. read more

I had a similarly negative experience here that I am still mad about. I had an antique loveseat redone here that came back to me with a giant stain on it! He denied its existence but said he would fix it for me. He never returned my call and the loveseat didn't turn out the way I wanted it to anyway. So bummed. It needs to be redone again. read more

However Basson came to my home, brought samples (within my budget), recovered my couch in one week and somehow we kept to my budget. My couch is so beautiful, I highly recommend Abbas. Bassam is the owner and they do Half-Ass work.... my wife took in a 1930's sofa and they used a dark green lace on half the couch b/c he said they ran out of gold lace??....my wife picked out gold material and they used a dark green material and called it antique gold??.....it took Abbas almost a yr to come out to our house and fix the lace to make it all one color but never admitted to using the wrong material on the entire couch..... also they didn't put the buttons back on the face.... his reason for all this... he said b/c he gave me a good deal??...$700 bucks down the Abbas shit hole!! read more
