Alex's Alterations did a great job hemming a pair of jeans. They have a small parking lot in front and I believe are cash/venmo only. The staff was very helpful and friendly by phone and in person. The time to hem the jeans was estimated to be one week but took only a couple days. A regular hem is $20 and an original hem to match the fading was $35. Alex's Alterations definitely has 5 stars for a reason! This local alterations shop in Bankers Hill is a gem and Alex really knows his stuff when it comes to tailoring. My boyfriend and I had about 4 pants each that we needed tailored, so we came by to check the place out, got assisted quickly, and the process was direct and smooth. With the 4 pants each, it was about 5-7 weeks or so to complete since (as you see when you'll arrive at the location), he is a one man team with many people's clothes in line for his services. Upon returning to the store once our clothes were complete, we both gestured "wow!" after every newly revised piece of attire we tried on and were thoroughly impressed. Overall, we are really happy with the results, and would recommend this spot to anyone. I had a fantastic experience getting the sleeves of an Indian kurta tailored by Alex. He was upfront about having a lot of clients and therefore would take 4 weeks to finish the alteration, but even still reached out a day ahead of schedule to tell us he was finished. I am extremely disappointed after visiting this establishment. I needed to have a dress hemmed to make it shorter, and additionally wanted to convert cap sleeves to make it sleeveless. I sew, so I figured this would not be a complicated job, but I wanted it done professionally. I called Alex's alterations in advance, explaining the situation and was assured they could complete my alteration. Last week, I got around to taking my dress in to the shop, and was met with Extreme Rudeness and disrespectful treatment by Alex. He spoke to me in an inconsiderate tone, and even raised his voice, telling me that changing this dress would be extremely complicated and would be very expensive. He continually questioned why I wanted to change the dress and ordered me to just buy a new dress completely. I remained calm, though I was taken aback by his attitude after being told on the phone the job was doable. I asked him if he had any recommendations for other tailors in the area, and he told me two, which I promptly looked up when I got back in my car. One of the places does not even exist, and the other closed up shop over 5 years ago. Let me start off by saying Alex is the BEST Tailor In San Diego!!! He's been my tailor for YEARS now and every single item I've ever needed customized is tailored as if was originally purchased that way. I don't really have to worry if what I purchase doesn't fit perfectly because Alex can tailor to perfection. I knew I wasn't going to anyone else when I brought in a Formal Jumpsuit that zipped all the way up to the neckline in the back. Jumpsuit fit perfectly except the top half was meant for a smaller chest so I couldn't zip past my bra line. I really wanted to make the jumpsuit work so I asked Alex if he could make the back a deep V....and he did so perfectly! I always get compliments on the Deep V back! read more

Other reviews warn that he's not the nicest guy, and I honestly don't care. I could care less about "good customer service" when the quality is as good as Alex's work. Alex is such a star. I found him on Yelp after really delaying some alterations I needed on a jumpsuit and will never go anywhere else in the future if I can help it. I came in on a Tuesday to get the waist taken in and legs hemmed several inches on an outfit for a wedding I'm attending on Saturday. He initially said he could only hem the legs givdn the rush, but he had me try on the outfit and said he'd be able to take in the waist if I didn't keep the pockets (sad, but my own fault for coming in so late). I've been to other tailors who would gladly take the rush job and offer to do everything I wanted from the get go, but none of them would have come close to doing as perfect a job as Alex did.
