It was not great or sweet. I make Japanese yams all the time and I don't cook and mine are better. They were so undercooked you missed the sweetness. This is hard to mess up. My fiancé order lobster. We asked how large the lobster was and the waitress was unclear. Plus I told them it was his bday before and they said they would do a candle and a small cupcake. ABC Kitchen blew me away. I left planning my next date night in my head and making notes about everything I saw on other people's plates that I know I'll want to try soon. I came here for a private dinner party. We were seated in the back area and the entire meal was served family style, so I got to try a little bit of so much. To sum it up, from mocktails and cocktails to food, everything was absolutely incredible. A few of my favorites from the night: -oven roasted artichoke -the burrata and truffle toast (there were other toasts but this one was by far my favorite) -roasted faroe salmon (served over a bed of shelling beans, the salmon was cooked so perfectly) -roasted broccolini We also got to try the burger, ravioli, the fried chicken. Everything was incredible - seriously not a bad dish on the table. I had one cocktail but otherwise couldn't help but indulge in far too many of their ginger mocktail. The first thing I noticed about ABC Kitchen was its décor. It was beautiful, refined and rustic all at once. I also noticed the large display of fresh vegetables and fruits near the open kitchen, indicating the usage of fresh ingredients. And yes! The food is fresh as everything is made with local, organic ingredients, and you can certainly taste the difference. I ordered the akaushi cheeseburger, stacked with creamy herbed mayonnaise, and pickled jalapeños, and served alongside crispy fries. I have to say this is probably one of the best burgers I have tried. It was cooked exactly to my liking, and incredibly juicy. I really think that ABC Kitchen is one of the most special restaurants in Manhattan. Attached to ABC Home, ABC Kitchen is beyond gorgeous inside. Rustic, romantic, cozy and almost ethereal. We came with my one year old, and they had high chairs. I have to say the menu is well suited for toddlers. Ample toasts menu - she enjoyed the squash and crab toast. And let me tell you..... the squash toast is DELICIOUS. We also had a carrot and avocado salad with fresh market greens, grilled whole artichoke, burger, shrimp and grits, salmon, and finished with a caramel corn sundae. Great spot for good food and great ambiance. I've been here to just sit at the bar as well as dining. The drinks are good but very measured. Appetizer I would suggest the yellowfin tuna or the calamari. For dinner I would suggest the pizzas. Skip the tomato, you can get that anywhere. Spicy tomato however, is a huge win. The black truffle is also fantastic. The restaurant is open and for the amount of tables in there, the noise level is actually not terrible. I've always loved the decor of ABC Kitchen. The open design carries a bit of rustic design with bit of modern feel to it. Staff are all very friendly. A lot of vegan/vegetarian options that diners can add protein to. Portions are a good size enough to share. We enjoyed a nice lunch eating a couple of vegan dishes and a couple of regular dishes. The place wasn't very crowded today so we didn't have any issues hearing each other, but I can imagine in a crowded environment the background noise would be significant. Nestled in the ritzy Manhattan Flatiron District, ABC Kitchen is the brainchild of Jean-Georges Vongerichten and executive chef Ayaka Guido, specializing in local, fresh ingredients cooked with the perfect balances of spice, acidity, and Asian touches. The restaurant exterior presents a modest and understated façade: its entrance, subtly integrated into the ground floor of the ABC Carpet & Home building, features large windows that offer glimpses into the inviting interior. The unassuming exterior leads into a space full of rustic charm and quiet, contemporary elegance. The interior showcases reclaimed wooden beams, whitewashed brick walls, and vintage-inspired furnishings, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Our party of four made a last-minute reservation for 7:30pm thirty minutes in advance during the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend - at that time, the restaurant was around ¾ full, so we were immediately led to our table. The menu is short and simple, highlighting seasonal produce with thoughtful flavors. The pacing of our meal was perfect: upon ordering our appetizers arrived within ten minutes, and our entrees about fifteen minutes after that, and we never felt rushed. We began with their Sour Cream and Onion Pull-Apart Bread ($19), which is pillowy-soft rolls that nostalgically resemble an upscale version of the Pringles flavor: there's a richness from the herbed oil, as well as a tang from the sour cream, and the herbal labneh dip on the side provides a lovely earthy richness to the dish. We also ordered their Wood Roasted Whole Artichoke ($20), which is a crispy, charred whole artichoke slathered in garlic, parsley, lemon, and oil. This was actually a bit greasier than we thought it would be, with very little actual artichoke "meat", but it was an interesting take on the vegetable that we had never seen before, and the garlic-parsley combination was surprisingly addictive. For entrees, one member of our party opted for the Farro Risotto ($29), which consisted of toothsome, slow-cooked farro with a smoky creme fraiche, earthy black trumpet mushrooms, roasted sugar snap peas, and preserved lemon. Even without a protein, the combination of earthy, bitter, rich, and acidic flavors in the dish paired with contrasting textures lent it a unique quality that I've never seen before. Another member went with the Grass Fed Cheeseburger ($32), which was a large 6-8oz succulent beef patty cooked to a perfect medium rare, served with an herbed mayonnaise, pickled jalapenos, and crispy hand-cut fries. Again, the chefs have really mastered the art of pairing flavors together to craft the perfect bite, although we found the fries a bit too thin-cut for our liking. The Spinach Pizza ($26) was New York style pizza with an extremely thin and crispy crust, topped with spinach, tangy goat cheese, and a lovely blend of herbs. It came pre-sliced into 8 pieces, and was perfect as an entree for one or a shared dish for the table. Lastly, as I had a lighter appetite that night, I went with the Five Spiced Beet & Celery Salad ($24), which consisted of two different types of earthy, slightly sweet beets (pink and red), whipped goat cheese, and herbaceous shiso leaves (which lend a flavor akin to a blend of mint and basil). While the portion was a bit small, this was perhaps one of the most unique beet salads I've ever tasted, and I didn't feel it was overwhelmed by too much oil and vinegar, as some beet salads are. In summary, our meal at ABC Kitchen was a lovely departure from some of the heavier meals I'd had on my trip, with a great farm-to-table ethos and grounding in environmental consciousness. While this was certainly pricey, especially given the portion sizes, I could really taste the thoughtfulness, intentionality, and ingredient quality in each dish, and the service was eager to provide us with their expertise. I will certainly be back to sample some of their seasonal dishes when autumn rolls around! read more

ABC Kitchen is one of my favorite NYC restaurants. Located near Union Square just off Broadway. Attached to the back of ABC Kitchen is the ABC Furniture Store. Don't let appearances fool you. The rough around the edges exterior belies the great experience that awaits you inside. We arrived here midday on a Saturday to meet friends for brunch. I could go on and on about the great service, which really was exceptional! But let's turn our attention to the food. I ordered the logically-named B.E.C. personal pizza, comprised of bacon, egg and cheese. The crust was great and the pizza delicious. This was the first time I've had tuna tartare. I've always been iffy about eating uncooked tuna, but the yellowfin tuna tartare here is wonderful. Smooth and delectable, I loved it! JP ordered a turkey burger. He thought it was excellent, but I couldn't help noticing that its Brioche bun fell apart before he was finished eating the burger. Don't get me going on my antipathy towards Brioche buns. We also ordered the avocado toast, which was very good as well. But I don't see it on the brunch menu now. My mom and I had a fabulous late lunch here on our last day visiting New York City. I got an aperol passion fruit spritz and liked its balance of flavors, which made it easy to sip but not something I'd be prone to tossing back too quickly (which can sometimes happen!). For food, we started with the sour cream and onion pull-apart bread and loved it; I was especially impressed by the delicious accompanying labneh. I went with the black truffle pizza for my entree and enjoyed it, although I'd be curious about trying a different pizza on a future visit. The biggest highlight was the campanelle that my mom got. It was so fresh and flavorful; it felt like the perfect example of what this restaurant seems to aim for in terms of highlighting well-balanced and high-quality ingredients. We were stuffed, so we got the cookies to go and enjoyed them all. I loved the unique flavors of the cookies, particularly the one featuring pistachio and cherry blossom. My only complaint -- and it's minor -- was them turning the restaurant from lunch to dinner as we were still eating: setting out lights on tables, changing music, etc. I don't suppose there's a way around it that doesn't involve closing at some point in the afternoon (and I actually appreciate being able to get a very late lunch/very early dinner sometimes), but it just took away from the ambiance a bit. The Fried Organic Chicken didn't live up to expectations, ESPECIALLY at a hefty $42. The fried coating is actually quite good, with a texture that reminded me of the crisp exterior of a dim sum taro puf. It was light, airy, and satisfying. However, the chicken itself was dry, tough, and just bland. And with only two small, chicken tender sized pieces on the plate, it felt more like an appetizer than a $42 entrée. It does comes with rainbow chard and habanero hot sauce butter, both of which had more flavor but unfortunately there was so little of this that it barely made a difference. The restaurant feels classy but also very homie which makes it a comfortable dining experience. Reservations were not too too hard to get which I appreciated. Food wise, we wanted to order a lot from the menu. The dishes were all done well, seasoned - only downside was the portions aren't the largest but that's what I'd expect from a nicer restaurant. My favorite was probably the sauce that went with the calamari appetizer, grass fed burger, and the moist carrot cake. I'm excited to check out the rest of the menu at some point. read more

Now for the food... the food was okay. peekytoe crab toast ($27) - This was my favorite dish of the entire meal. The toast was indeed toasty; the type that can scratch the roof of your mouth! but the crab topping complimented the toast with both texture and flavor. The crab spread was delicious and I liked the dill flavor (if you're wondering in what form the crab is served, imagine tuna salad but instead of tuna it's crab; also see the attached photos). glazed honeynut squash ($26) - This was meh for me. It was good but I was left feeling slightly confused at the combination of all the flavors of this dish. The date puree, tamarind, there were some pomegranate seeds, along with the ricotta. Not to mention the price for this squash. The crab toast left a much better impression on me for around the same price. campanelle ($27) - I liked the cook of the pasta, al dente. I recommend sharing this pasta dish or ordering two entrees, because the pesto taste was overwhelming for me, and I wished I had a palate cleanser. The brussels and pistachio nuts were tasty and added to the texture profile in the dish, but I got tired of that strong pesto flavor overall. 4/5: The service and ambiance carried the rating as I found the food just okay. Overall amazing Great interior design and vibe, awesome service, and excellent food. Ordered kale salad and salmon along with a burger and fries. We devoured everything left no crumbs. They gave me a mountain of chopped kale, w slices of jalapeños, some grated cheese, and lemon juice. It was so zesty, plastic, and refreshing! The salmon was was cooked perfect with a nice simple seasoning and the crust was nice and crisp but not overly done which allowed the salmon to retain its flaky texture. It went well with the salad. The burger was thick and juicy, perfect medium with a pink center and Well seasoned. The sauce added a nice creamy tang to the burger. The brioche bun gave the burger a substance not allowing all the ingredients to fall apart. Wish I had room for dessert! Definitely recommend going here any time of the day. read more

We went to ABC Kitchen for their Restaurant Week special with high expectations. It is a Jean-Georges spot, after all, and I've always enjoyed his other restaurants. Unfortunately, the experience got off to a rocky start. We had to wait about 45 minutes to be seated, seemingly because the table before us lingered well past their time. Once we were finally seated and ready to order, a waitress nearby dropped an entire tray of glassware--some of it actually hit my friend. To their credit, the staff brought over complimentary champagne, which was a nice gesture. As for the food, it was good, but nothing that blew me away. The highlight was definitely the chocolate cake, which was rich and satisfying. Still, the meal took over two hours from start to finish, which felt excessive given the overall experience. All in all, the food was solid, but the service and pacing left a lot to be desired. I wouldn't return for Restaurant Week, though I might give it another shot on a regular night. read more

This time, my friend and I shared: - Roast Carrot and Avocado Salad ($25+) - Black Truffle Pizza ($30+) I'm not a fan of truffle, but the Black Truffle Pizza with fontina cheese and farm egg was so good. My only disappointment was the Organic Young Thai Coconut Water ($10+), which came in a glass, not coconut. It was good, but I wouldn't order it again.
