I recent had the sad occasion to put my dog down. He was a 16 yrs friend. A beautiful blue tick beagle who never growled or barked at anyone. I also had the fortune of going to ABC clinic. They were very accommodating and understanding. They scheduled the procedure the same day even though I had put off the difficult decision just a few days earlier. Our beloved Beagle who was also a regular patient there was treated with respect and great care. All services were very reasonable. The doctor took his time to explain everything. I went to the place 12 years ago and recently my dog is having some health issues so I decided to bring him in from the experience I had previously. This time, my dog received the detail cares and the options were upfront to explain how this works and what to expect. The service was very good and people who worked there were very friendly and helpful. Even I went back for multiple visits, I received the warm welcome each time. Now my dog is getting better in two weeks and I also brought my daughter's cat in for a wellness exam. I am happy with the staff and the knowledge they provide us to make better decisions. read more

I have been taking my dogs to this place for years. Usually only go there once a year for a check up. But the dr raj runs his practice so poorly. Since we can't go inside for the visit due to covid (understandable) He takes the dog inside and comes back out to inform us, hes "running tests now and you'll receive the results in a few days" He did not ask us permission for the test. He did not tell us what type of tests. He just hurried away. He didn't give us a receipt for confirmation. I asked him what type of tests and he said check up test. So in my head, I thought okay a physical. Later on, I receive a $400 bill for the test. And I called the clinic to ask why the charge was so high and I told them what had happened during the visit. I spoke with raj. He said "I should have came in the office to find out what was happening and what the costs were." He said he's "unaware of how much the prices are for treatment" On the phone call with him, trying to explain to him that I didn't approve a $400 test. All he did was talk over me and try to tell me he "always" preforms this test on my "cat" I have never owned a cat. I have never bought a cat in for a check up. I asked him, do you have me confused with another patient? Is this what could have happened ? He just denied it all and told me that he "will put this in his notes and tell me all future costs" I think he should have been telling all his patients the costs and what is truly going on. I brought my Yorkie in for an expired immunization for grooming. It was December 3rd. Showed no interest in knowing or meeting my beloved Yorkie. I live in Incline Village, lake Tahoe half of the year and needed him groomed before I left next week. When I walked into ABC pet clinic the Owner looked at me and then walked behind closed doors. Never said hello or welcomed my beloved pet and showed no interest. I knew at that moment No warmth in this office. Will never go back and will find a wonderful caring vet in Danville. We have been faithful clients of ABC Pet Clinic for years. Unfortunately, recently we needed to switch to a new veterinary and we are thrilled. I wish we would have switched much sooner. My dog has a heart murmur and is on medication for it. At a recent check-up, I told Dr Raj that my dog has been choking/gagging lately. This is a classic sign of heart deterioration. Dr Raj did nothing and ignored my concerns. Things got worse and ABC wasn't able to see my dog for 3-4 weeks. So I took him to emergency services elsewhere and, indeed, his heart murmur had gotten worse and my dog needed more medication. The bottom line is that ABC Pet Clinic is equipped ONLY for wellness visits. They do not have the technology or knowledge to detect and treat anything out of the norm. I feel that they have no invested in their own business in terms of keeping up with technology. Trying to cut corners. I know the pandemic has been very hard on veterinary offices. But there's more going on here than just that. I felt that I was spoken to in a condescending manner on multiple occasions. I felt my concerns were ignored despite my pet having physical symptoms. And it's impossible to get an appointment in a reasonable timeframe even if you only need to seen a technician. I feel like ABC pet clinic has cut too many corners financially, has not invested in technology and it has impacted their service to the point where I was forced for the sake of my dog's life to go elsewhere. I also feel that the practice is very clearly geared toward only wellness appointments. That doesn't fit our lifestyle or what we need from our vet. We are now at a veterinary office where the veterinarian actually gives his email address to clients and you can actually have a conversation with him. I never thought it was possible. We use to go to another vet in Danville and when they got purchased by Bancroft it went down hill fast and we ended up being duped into paying $500+ for unnecessary lab work for our dog. Was given a quote for 400$ to neuter my dog and landed up paying close to $730 cause they had to x-ray my 18 year old golden to check cardiac issue in addition to ear infection. Go figure the cardiac part on 18 month dog and all the charges with that. Pathetic experience with this clinic. I think it is time to look for another vet.... It really saddens me to have to say anything bad about ABC Pet Clinic since my dog, Zoey, has been a patient here since she was 10 weeks old and is now the ripe old age of 14. I think things have really changed ever since COVID but it seems the last few times I've had to deal with this vet, I've been frustrated. I cannot say anything bad about Dr. Raj since he still is a very competent and gentle doctor with my dog (when I can actually get an appointment with him). This review is really for the overall clinic itself. My dog was diagnosed with MVD early on and we have been able to keep her healthy with a strict diet of low protein food and an ongoing use of Lactulose. Because this is a known issue with her, I always need to "renew" prescriptions for medicated food and Lactulose. Recently, when my pharmacy requested approval to refill her Lactulose, they were ignored. Since I was running low on her medication, I called the pharmacy and they said they were still waiting to hear back from the vet and that they faxed over the request four days prior. I called the vet and was told by the receptionist that they would get it signed and sent over as soon as possible by another vet since Dr. Raj was not in the office that day. I expected the pharmacy to notify me of the refill shortly thereafter but I didn't hear anything. The following Monday, I called them again and they said they still had not received anything from the vet so I called the vet again. This time, I was told by another receptionist that prescriptions had to be given in-person now and would no longer be approved via fax or phone. This was news to me and I was annoyed that no one bothered to call me and let me know even though I was waiting to refill her medication! Additionally, I was told all prescription requests would be charged $5. This was absurd to me since this is a genetic disorder of which they are aware, and Zoe will forever need to be treated for to have a better quality of life. The fact that I need to obtain a prescription in-person (I no longer live near ABC Pet Clinic and still chose to drive out there as a dedicated client/patient) and be charged for it each time is ridiculous. So my boyfriend drove out there, paid the prescription and had the medication filled at our local pharmacy. A week later, I realized her prescription for medicated food needed to be renewed so I tried to see if the vet would approve Banfield's request since this was for food. Again, I was told I need to come in-person for a script and pay another $5. Again, my boyfriend went out to pick up the script for her food. He asked the receptionist to charge the card on file and she looked bewildered and said "there is no charge for the prescription." My boyfriend was surprised and mentioned we were told it was $5. The receptionist then punched something into the computer and then acknowledged there was a fee. This made us think the $5 fee was not a policy but specific to us. I'm disappointed that despite being long-time devoted clients that are not troublesome, it feels like we are being punished or treated as second-class. Overall, given the distance, the decline in good customer-service, the long waits for appointments, the increase in prices, and the overall inconvenience ABC Pet Clinic is becoming, I think it is time we look for another vet for Zoey. read more

I've been coming here ever since I adopted my dog. My friend recommended this place to me because they have the lowest prices around. The staff here are great and Dr. Raj is so amazing! He is so nice and really cares about your pet. I've been able to call when my dog is not feeling well and they were able to help me through the phone. But because they have the lowest costs, I believe "you get what you pay for". They treat your pets great and really know how to take care of them, there's no doubt about that. But sometimes I run into issues with communication and scheduling between the staff and me. There was a time I dropped off my dog for teeth cleaning and then had to come back right away to pick her up because the doctor was going to be out that day. There was also a time when I came to pick up my dog but no one was at the front desk to help so I was just out there by myself waiting for a while until someone came out. read more

Dr. Raj is a great doctor. His front desk staff on the other hand are entirely incompetent. My entire family has brought around 7 animals to him. I understand that is a lot, and it may be confusing as I have worked at numerous pet hospitals myself. However, when you're waiting on your senior pet's blood work results and they send it over to your brother and his girlfriend, after you have asked the receptionist 10 times to update the contact information on file it becomes inexcusable . The bloodwork was taken Saturday, it is now Thursday and I am just now finding out why I was not contacted once about my dogs bloodwork. They had my dog under a different family member, wrong phone number, wrong everything even after speaking to the lady working there at drop off to make sure that had all the correct information... she guaranteed me I'd be ready first to know. Due to this I am now going else where. My family may choose to stay but I am not paying 500 plus to have my dogs private information sent elsewhere and to not hear from anybody. So thankful for Dr. Raj and his staff. I called early as my dog was in pain and was miserable with an ear infection. They had no in-office appointments but said they would see her and the doctor would come out to speak with me. I was thrilled that they would see her on the same day I called. After one day on the 2 medications given she is a new dog. No more crying and hiding. She slept all night and is back to her old self. Dr. Raj thank you so much! The office staff was kind, helpful and caring on the phone. They did not charge me extra to be seen on the same day. Fantastic fast service. Needed one update to shots, so made an afternoon appointment. Was told after we brought our dog in, that they prefer we wait in the car and to just call them to come get the dog. But since it was only one "shot", we dropped him off and walked to the back lot, to wait in the car. Before I could get in the car, they brought our dog out, explaining it was a nasal spray. Dr. Raj is one of the rudest individuals I have encountered. He yelled at my mother who is a bit older and accused her of not wanting to pay which is completely insane, money is not an issue. He also made her wait while he searched for a memo that he never replied to after weeks. He excuse and this is verbatim " do you think I have time to look at memos!" His assistant was the one who suggested a memo. After all this he said they can do the surgery on our dog but they don't have all the equipment. This guys is a piece of work. read more

I am so upset I don't even know where to begin, I have a male black Oriental shorthair show cat, although I don't show him or partake in any of that kind of stuff, my point is he's a stunning cat, and for some unknown reason he got an aerial hematoma in his left ear and it's swelled up greatly causing him great discomfort but not life-threatening evidently, so I took him to Dr. Raj who told me there were two procedures available, the first was to drain it, telling me there was a 50-50 chance that it would reoccur, The other procedure was surgery with a 95% chance of recur. We both agreed the smart course of action would be the less invasive and try to drain it which he did but it came back a few days later even worse, I tried to immediately schedule for the surgery and was put off for two weeks. Finally the day of surgery came, and I was very concerned about anesthesia because these particular type of cats don't do well on it and I actually lost a cat 10 years ago. Evidently the surgery went fine, but the procedure post surgery was done incorrectly and I raised issues about the lack of support that the ear had even though it was sutured up. I was told it was fine and that in two weeks I would return to get the stitches removed. And the whole two weeks I watched my cats ear droop droop droop and I am not a doctor but I'm also not an idiot, and I could tell that the ear was healing incorrectly because it was not supported. Sure enough I went in got the stitches removed and Dr came out and brought him to me and I could see that my cats year was literally Permanently disfigured, Dr. Raj literally mangled my cats ear, and when I asked him about it he said "sorry about that, nothing I can do about the way it healed, nothing I can do about the scar tissue." His pompous ice cube apology fell on deaf ears, and I looked at him and I told him that "my cat was one of my best friends and he was absolutely stunningly beautiful and you mangled his ear and you don't even care." Dr. Raj just walked away and I never heard from him again. Couple days later I decided to leave this review. If the ear had been stabilized as suggested by 95% of everything I've read online about this procedure, his ear would have healed correctly, but it was not stabilized, and Dr. Raj told me that he just doesn't do that. I'm literally heartbroken every time I look at my friend...I had to lay with him today and apologize to him for taking him to Dr. Raj, for trusting Dr. Raj, I had to apologize to my friend for his mangled ear which droops completely down probably causing him not to be able to hear very well out of that ear. All of this could've been avoided if the procedure was done correctly, this is a very common procedure if it was just done correctly my friend would be not be mangled and disfigured, and Dr. Raj did nothing but add insult to injury with his cold calloused pre-programmed shallow trite apology. read more

Dr Raj has been my primary veterinarian for as long as I can remember. He started out in a smaller building before he moved to his beautiful new facility. The only time I use a different vet is when he's on vacation, which isn't very often! What I admire the most about his practice is his ability to diagnose. You don't see that very much anymore! I was a vet tech for 12 years in the early 80's. Most vets relied on observation and intuition, using logic and knowledge. Dr Raj has this gift. It seems like he tries to keep costs reasonable, for someone with 3 dogs, it's appreciated!! I train dogs in the area, and have referred possibly hundreds of people to his practice. Very good, trustworthy vet. We brought our dog there for several visits. Very impressed. We were ready to pay for tests and such, but were told how to watch our dog and what yo expect. The doctor even called me in spoke with me on the phone explaining why the tests might be skipped at this point (my hubby was the one who brought the dog). How sweet is that? I have been coming to ABC Pet Clinic for years. I love it here. The staff are awesome. Until recently. A lady named Debbie Welch in front desk is so rude and abrasive and actually argued over something she got wrong. She ended up giving me my medication after realizing she was wrong. When she did the medication was open and not sealed properly. I nearly asked for a new pill but didn't want to deal with the awful woman any longer. Dr. Raj is a patient vet and has taken good care of my pet. But recently, it appears the front desk is too busy. I am writing this so they are aware of the expectations, My pet had a bad fall and was limping... took him to emergency and 2 followups with ABC. Sidenote; BTW credit where due... Dr. Raj did come out after the visit to discuss his diagnosis, even if I could not go to the exam room. After the visit(s) my pet showed other new symptoms... one day he was shivering uncontrollably.. another day after potty my dog seemingly seemed to have a catch (he was all "twisted up in the hind legs" and could not walk). So I sent an email to the Front desk, once with a video and asked them to forward to Dr. Raj. No answer.... I followed it up again with a phone call... the front desk asked me to repeat my email verbally.... even though they had the email! I feel incredibly blessed to have found Dr Raj! He truly cares about the health of your pet and doesn't try to gouge you with the pricing. He is more than fair! Today I had to take in my dog who has been sick for a week and he examined him and gave him meds and it was a total of $68 including meds. I had no idea how much it would cost and felt this was so reasonable! I got a few bids to get my dogs teeth cleaned and ABC pet clinic was half the price of Bishops Ranch Vet. Boy has my opinion changed since I wrote my original review 5 years ago. I no longer recommend Dr. Raj at all. I was a loyal client for years, but his attitude has changed since I began going to him. In my last appointment 1 yr ago, he became very angry at me that I couldn't medicate my hyperthyroid cat. She is a semi-feral and I explained to him over & over I an unable to handle her. I tried medication in her food and in pill pockets and in her ear, but she is too smart and would run from me when I approached her. If I grabbed her she panics and tries to claw. But even knowing this, he told me it was my fault and I was not a responsible pet owner. Then he admitted he also was unable to handle her for her appointment, and blamed me for that. He told me he would never be willing to shave her mats off in the future because her little body was too weak from her thyroid left untreated, and she would not survive going under sedation again (in order to shave her). He made me feel horrible and I left the office in tears. I internalized the guilt for a long time, feeling so ashamed. I was too embarrassed to go back, even though her mats became painful for her and she became weak from her thyroid getting worse. Finally, I knew I had to help her because she was suffering. I thought any other vet would make the same accusation to me- that I was a horrible pet owner, but I had to try to get her help for her sake. I took my cat to Four Paws vet in Dublin, and to my surprise, my new vet didn't scold me at all. She confirmed my cat was indeed a cat which could not be handled and I shouldn't blame myself. She also said it was false she could not be sedated again- that was hogwash. She sedated & shaved my cat (thankfully giving my cat the relief she needed from the painful mats). And for the thyroid issue- she she recommended I do a one-time Radio-Iodine treatment to cure her from her hyperthyroidism. I had never heard of this treatment before, and I cannot imagine why Dr. Raj never suggested it. My new vet said it was actually a perfect solution for a cat that is impossible to handle because it solves the problem for good and medication will never be needed again. Long story short, I did the treatment and my cat is now fine- her blood test showed thyroid is now in normal range, and she is healthy again. Dr Raj would have let my cat continue to suffer and he would have kept blaming me for it, even though there was another solution I could pursue which has a 95% success rate. Thank God I went to another vet. I will never recommend Dr Raj to anyone ever again. read more

ABC Pet Clinic is a great local vet. The owner, Raj, is personal and knowledgeable. We have been taking our dogs here for years. He never tries to overcharge us or upsell us on unneeded procedures. We took our dog to Dr.Raj to diagnose and treat a swollen anal area. Dr.Raj confirmed that there was a mass in the anal area and ordered an X Ray. We paid for the X Ray and radiologist services but then Dr.Raj told us that he X Ray is inconclusive and we need to pay more for the ultra sound. We noticed that the X Rays were taken in the abdominal area instead of the anal area and asked Dr.Raj to explain it. He failed to provide an explanation and became agitated and forcibly grabbed the pills that we already paid for from my hands and walked away. I told him that I would complain to his supervisor and he said that he's the owner so I can complain all I want. It was merely an assault and theft and Dr.Raj is completely out of line. Most importantly he didn't help and treat our dog and just walked away. Shame on such a doctor! We later took our dog to another clinic where the doctor diagnosed it as perineal hernia which is completely not relevant to the X Ray of abdominal area. read more

I have been to places where they just want to make the money and throwing out huge numbers for certain procedures when it comes to your pet's situation. I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed ABC Pet Clinic long ago! We have had nothing but good experiences with Dr. Raj's clinic for 14 years. Our dog has always been full of anxiety when going to the vet and Dr. Raj has always been very sensitive to that. (Our dog came from a puppy mill and came already fearful of needles, vets, etc!) Dr. Raj has given our dog the best of care. When I brought him in as a pup, worried he had swallowed a sock and wanting him X-rayed, Dr. Raj cautioned me about X-raying a small pup unnecessarily. We were used to our old vet that ordered x-rays and lab work at the drop of a $$$! I would say Dr. Raj is cautious, but thorough. His staff is wonderful! 14 years ago, when we got our pup, my husband wanted to find a better vet than the one we had used previously. I asked around at the dog parks and ABC Pet Clinic came up continuously as reliable and affordable. We met with Dr. Raj for an "interview" and came away feeling he would treat our dog very well and have not been disappointed. Sadly, we had to put our dog to sleep last week. It's such a difficult decision and we consulted with Dr. Raj a few times before we knew it was time. Wow. What a service. One of the receptionists bossed me around and hang upon me on the phone. I told her my dog's name is not what she said, and she ignored me and asked if I am new client. I repeated what i said and she ignored and asked the same question. And i asked if she heard me, AND she told me just answer her question!! I said u answer me first, and she hang up! Great Job of treating new client. In the end, I might not even go there anymore. And i see similar complaints about the rude service for many years here ( back to 2012 and more).
