I live close to Abi, and when I first moved here I had high hopes for the place. I tried it twice. On both occasions, food was mediocre, at best. The tortillas were soggy and the beef was tough. The prices were very high, considering the quality of the food and the limited portions. The salsa was the kind you might buy in a can, and is sure to dissapoint. The service was also pretty horrific. In both visits, I tried to get the waiters' attention. The first time he was sitting at the bar chatting up the woman behind the bar. On the second occasion he just went back into the kitchen and never came out. I had to walk over to the bar and ask for the bill. In short, poor service, high prices, and unappetizing food. There are many more Latino restaurants around that offer better quality and value. Some might even appreciate you showing up, but don't expect a warm welcome here. read more

I'd compare this place to a Don Pablo's, but is cheaper and has a better local feel. Drinks: -1 Star. As a Mexican/El Salvadorian place I do expect a better quality Marg. That being said, they are pretty cheap and they have a good happy hour price for them...I am a snob and just have higher expectations. Really good food - absolutely love the tortillas (they're thicker than your standard store bought ) and the salsa verde. I live in the neighborhood and this is a great place to have within walking distance. Skip the margaritas and just grab a beer if you're having a drink. This place was a major disappointment. I came in here a couple of weeks ago for some lunch. I had a shrimp cocktail, lomo saltado, and some orange juice. The service wasn't bad but seemed rather nonchalant. The service could have been quicker. The serving size for the shrimp cocktail was way too large. It was almost a meal unto itself when it should have been an appetizer. The cocktail sauce was way too salty. The lomo saltado had beef, tomatoes, green peppers, onions, and French fries. Instead of French fries they should have used potatoes. Good Russet potatoes would have been a good substitute. The plate also had rice and a salad. Everything came out to $32; the price was very expensive relative to the quality of the food. The facilities were fairly well maintained. Some of the bench seating needed to be reupholstered, and the table covers were vinyl imitation leather. Wood, formica, or granite would have made a better table surface. read more

Ok this is one of my favorite Salvadorian/Mexican places in the area. It's a bit of a hole in the wall. If you're Salvadorian, you'll totally get the decor . . bright colors and cultural knick-knacks. I love the pupusas revueltas (cheese and pork) and the cheese pupusas, I also love the carne asada from here with the rice, beans, salad, and tortillas. The yuca and chicarron is delicious. The corn tamales are the best I've ever tried in my life! They are sweet compared to the ones I'm used to and a much brighter yellow. I also had a beef taco dish, it was alright. The tortilla (handmade) was too thick for me, I prefer thin ones if they will be served as tacos. Everything else was alright. Mu boyfriend and I had dinner here. It was so good. The food was very authentic and there were very large portions. Everything was reasonably priced and the happy hour drinks were super cheap. The sweet corn tamale was the best thing ever! The fried tortillas with EL Fredy were amazing and the fajitas were super flavorful. I'm not a big latin food fan. I enjoy it here and there so keep that in mind in terms of my personal taste and my review. That said, Abi was pretty good. I would say Abi is equivalent to my favorite Greek/Med family style restos (such as La Casa on Duke St in the Alexandria Landmark area or Atlantis in the Shirlington area). If it were my favorite kind of food, I'd probably give it 4 stars. Since its not, 3. I figure I'll go back on rare occasions but I won't be beating a path to their door like I do for La Casa. Loved this place. Every dish at the table was wonderful. The service was so so, but the food made up for it. Our table had arroz con pollo, carne asada, and one chicken and one beef enchilada. The name of the restaurant is actually Abi II. For those reviewing Abi II on yelp, this is the same place. Came in on a Sat eve about 6pm, there were a handful of people dining and the bar was busy. There were 5 waitresses and 1 gal tending the bar. Got sat right away and our order taken about 5-10 minutes after we arrived. Soon after complimentary chips and salsa were brought to our table and I ordered. Now onto the food, which by the way my order was all gluten-free. Pupusa $1.80/each- ordered two kinds, one plain cheese and one cheese and pork. Very nice and cheesy and really enjoyed the masa outer layer. I've never liked quesadillas so I'll take these over them any day! Taco platter $7.95- corn tortillas topped with refried beans, white rice, steak, diced onions, and cilantro. I expected the beans and rice to be separate sides so it was strange to see it served that way; it wasn't described that way in the menu. Wondering if that's Salvadorian style? I wouldn't know since I have never eaten in a Salvadorian restaurant nor do I have any Salvadorian friends who would have schooled me on their cuisine. There's no lime, sliced radish, or grated cheese that you would find let's say, in a Mexican restaurant, so don't expect it. But what they do have is this wonderful shredded cabbage (repollo), carrot, and onion slaw lightly seasoned with vinegar and oregano. I asked the waitress what it was called and she couldn't remember. So I googled it and it's called Curtido, a slaw accompaniment with Salvadorian pupusas or other dishes. Along with the pupusa, it was the highlight of my meal. It must be popular because they already had individual servings in some prepacked in plastic wrap for their customers to go orders. It may look small from the outside, but there is a fair amount of seating inside, including a bar area. I had the pupusas, which were hot, fresh, and tasty. This place, across from Huntington Metro Station, is easy to overlook, even if you are looking for it, because their sign is not illuminated. It is a real gem. The chips are crispy, and the salsa is flavorful. It's a little watery, but I like it that way. The waitress will help you figure out what you want. Try the "lunch" specials, which are available any time (price is slightly higher in the evening but still a bargain). Refried beans are creamy and delicious, the best I have ever had. Sad to see that this place hasn't been reviewed earlier. I've been here twice and each time I've left very satisfied. And the prices were fair, not over priced but definitely not cheap. First off, the restaurant isn't all that nice looking. Upon first glance you wouldn't expect much from a place like this, but I was pleasantly surprised. Everything I've had was good. I had a very tasty bowl of soup with beef ribs, corn on the cob, yucca, and potatoes. I also had a burrito that's served with a bottle of green sauce. I think it was mostly cilantro. It was all pretty good. Each time I was here, the place was pretty much empty so there wasn't any wait in terms in service. The waitress was really nice though. You could tell that they care about doing a good job, which is why it's kind of sad to see that this place doesn't get any recognition. I definitely recommend it. We use to live across the street from this restaurant. It was our go time Dinner place when we did not want to cook. Since moving, we often miss it. No other Mexican restaurant in the DMV can match it. Absolutely perfect for a low key, low priced, but delicious Mexican food. Chips and salsa are free (as they should be). Food is delicious and well seasoned. As far as I can tell it is also pretty "authentic." Highly recommend the veggie burrito (big enough to share), guacamole, and a side order of rice and beans. They also have tongue tacos if you are feeling adventures. The location is a short 2 block walk from Huntington metro (across King's Hwy). They also have a couple of televisions that are usually show soccer in Spanish or ESPN deportes. The Happy hour is also a great deal for beer or margaritas. read more
